Chapter 17

October 8.

The halls of Beacon were busy with students milling about, and Jaune wasn't an exception as he made his way to history class.

"Jaune." He heard someone reluctantly calling his name, and he recognized her voice immediately. He stopped, and then turned around to face her.

"Hey, Penny." He greeted her, and was quick to notice traces of worry in her emerald green eyes.

"Hi, Jaune." She greeted him back, and only some seconds later dared to move closer to him.

He sighed, and then and there realized he needed to fix this. He wanted to.

"Um, about yesterday I'm…I'm sorry." He started, and her eyes widened a bit. "I lost my cool and just, and made an ass of myself. And I'm really sorry about that, I am."

She shook her head. "No, I'm the one who made a mistake. I should have realized just how personal talking about your family and its issues was to you, but I didn't. And so, I made you upset," She said with the voice quieter than usual, and her eyes even reflected some genuine sadness.

"Penny, please, it's, it's okay. Seriously."

She crossed her fingers. "Is it?"

"Yes. One hundred percent, absolutely with-out a shadow of a doubt, it's okay," He said, and a tiny, reassuring smile was etched in his lips.

She carefully observed him for a while, before finally, she herself managed to faintly smile. Her emerald green eyes looking more normal now.

"Okay. I believe you."

"Good," He said with a wisp of relief. And then followed a brief moment of silence, before he pointed his thumb behind him. "On your way to history class, right?"

"Yes."

"Then let's go."

"Yes!" She answered with enthusiasm which not only fit her, but one he was familiar with.

He very much liked her when she was her normal self.
