Katrina: Are you feeling nervous about what the doctor's gonna say?
Bob: (Worriedly) Babe, any minute, that phone could ring and the doctor might end up telling us that there's something's seriously wrong with you.
Katrina: You don't know that for sure.
Bob: (Sighs) You're right. I don't. But it doesn't make me feel any better.
Katrina: Whatever it turns out to be, I know we'll get through it together...right?
(Bob sighs then smiles then reaches up and pecks Katrina on the cheek then nods)
Bob: Right.
(The phone rings then Katrina turns to Bob then pecks him on the forehead)
Katrina: Okay.
Bob: Okay.
(Katrina hops off her seat then goes over to the phone then answers it)
Katrina: Hello...Dr. Carrot? Are my results in? Yes? Mmm-hmm? (Surprised) Oh. Oh, are you sure? Really? Okay. Okay. Yes. And I will. T-Thanks. Bye.
(Katrina hangs up the phone then turns to Bob looking surprised)
Bob: (Worriedly) Sweetheart, what did she say? Is everything alright?
Katrina: Bob...Let's go over to the calendar.
Bob: (Confused) The...calendar? O-okay. Sure.
(Bob hops off his seat then follows Katrina over to the calendar then Katrina flips through it till she reaches the month of November then she turns to Bob)
Katrina: Honey, do you have a marker?
Bob: Mmm-hmm.
(Bob gives Katrina a nearby marker then she circles the month of November)
Bob: (Confused) What exactly is happening in November, babe?
Katrina: Well...that's the month when our baby's gonna arrive.
Bob: Oh.
(Bob's face dawns in realization then he looks up at Katrina surprised)
Bob: Oh!
(Bob looks down at Katrina's stomach then back up at her hopeful)
Bob: Babe, are you saying we're..
Katrina: (Happily) We're gonna have a baby, Bob. I'm pregnant!
Bob: Woo-hoo!
(Bob hops on the stool then reaches up and kisses Katrina romantically then kisses her nose)
Bob: (Chuckles) I guessed a lot of things adding up to what you had but I didn't think about this.
Katrina: Me neither. We didn't exactly talk about it. (Sighs) I didn't know if you wanted another kid since we already have Laura.
Bob: Sweetheart, it's exactly what I've been dreaming about since we first got married.
Katrina: You mean that?
Bob: I do.
(Katrina smiles then pecks Bob on the forehead then Bob hops off the stool then looks at Katrina's stomach in awe)
Bob: (Whispering) I can't believe there's a small part of us living in there. Our little miracle.
(Bob's eyes well up with tears then he chuckles)
Bob: (Voice cracking) Look at me. (Looks up at Katrina) I didn't think I could be this happy.
(Katrina's eyes also well up with tears then she pecks Bob on the forehead)
Katrina: Me too, babe.
(Bob kisses Katrina's stomach then leans against it)
Bob: (To Katrina's stomach, softly) Hi. Hi baby. This is Daddy. Your Daddy's right here and he loves you very, very much. Me and your Mommy are gonna take care of you. We'll always be there to protect you and keep you safe. You are loved. You're always loved.
Katrina: (Giggles) Do you think we should tell Laura the good news?
(Bob looks up at Katrina)
Bob: I think that's a great idea.
Katrina: Come on then.
END OF SNIPPET 1
Bob: 'And they all lived happily ever after. The end'.
Laura: Can you read it again, Dad? Please?
Bob: It's getting late, sweetheart. I'll read it to you tomorrow. Same time, same place.
Laura: Okay.
Bob: Okay. Glasses off.
(Laura takes off her glasses then puts them on her nightstand)
Bob: And here's your doll.
(Bob gives Laura her doll then tucks her in)
Bob: Are you tucked in good?
Laura: Uh-huh.
Bob: Alrighty then. Then we turn off the lamp.
(Bob turns off the lamp on the nightstand)
Bob: And we say 'good night'.
(Bob kisses Laura on the forehead)
Bob: Good night, dear.
(Bob goes over to the door then Laura sits up then looks over at Bob)
Laura: Dad?
(Bob turns to Laura)
Bob: Mmm-hmm?
Laura: I've...I've been thinking about something lately.
Bob: What you've been thinking about?
Laura: Oh. Nothing. It's just something Gordon said to me in school.
Bob: (Sighs) What did he say?
Laura: Well...you and Mom love me a lot, don't you?
Bob: More than anything.
(Laura frowns)
Laura: And...you won't ever stop loving me when the new baby gets here...right?
Bob: Of course we won't. Is that what Gordon told you?
(Laura looks down)
Laura: Yeah. I know he was only making fun of me but he did also say that since I'm adopted and I'm not really your daughter that now you and Mom are having a baby of your own, once it's born, I'll...I'll be sent to an orphanage.
Bob: (Surprised) Laura.
(Laura looks up at Bob sadly)
Laura: (Worriedly) You won't let that happen, will you?
(Bob goes back over to the bed)
Bob: I'd never let that happen to you, Laura. Me and your Mom, we love you above anything else in this world. We don't care if you're adopted or not, you're our daughter no matter what. We won't ever stop caring about you. Our family will just be bigger, that's all. Things will be different. The baby will need lots of love and attention just like you but you two are special to us in your own way. You'll always be our first. And you'll also never stop being my little princess.
Laura: Really, Dad?
Bob: Mmm-hmm.
(Laura smiles then hugs Bob then Bob tucks Laura back into bed)
Bob: Now, who loves you?
Laura: You.
Bob: I love you a whole lot.
Laura: I love you infinity.
Bob: (Chuckles) That's my girl.
(Bob kisses Laura's forehead)
Bob: You go to sleep, okay?
(Laura nods)
Laura: Goodnight, Dad.
Bob: Goodnight, Laura.
(Laura closes her eyes then goes to sleep then Bob invisibly brushes away her bangs then goes over to the door then quietly closes it)
END OF SNIPPET 2
Ellen: (Giggles) Jimmy sweetie, when can I remove the blindfold?
Jimmy: Not yet. Almost. Okay...stop.
(Ellen stops hopping then Jimmy goes over to a window then opens the curtains then turns back to Ellen)
Jimmy: Okay.
(Jimmy goes over to Ellen then stands behind her)
Jimmy: Ready?
(Ellen nods then Jimmy removes the blindfold then Ellen gasps as she looks around a nursery with blue and pink walls, lots of baby toys, a single window with curtains matching the colors of the walls and two cribs)
Ellen: (Softly) Jimmy.
(Jimmy goes over to the cribs then turns to Ellen)
Jimmy: I've been working on it in secret for the past 3 months. Since we're getting close, I pulled up an all-nighter with Lunt and George's help and managed to finish it.
(Jimmy goes over to Ellen)
Jimmy: (Hopeful) So...do you like it?
Ellen: Like it? I love it! It's so pretty looking and adorable.
(Ellen kisses Jimmy)
Ellen: It's just right for our twins.
Jimmy: Honest?
Ellen: Honest.
(Ellen kisses Jimmy then she gasps and looks down at her belly between them)
Ellen: Jimmy...did you feel that?
Jimmy: What?
Ellen: Our babies. They're starting to kick.
(Jimmy moves closer to Ellen's belly then feels the babies kicking against his side then looks down at Ellen's belly then back up at her)
Jimmy: (Happily) This is incredible!
(Jimmy faces Ellen's belly)
Jimmy: (To Ellen's belly, cooing) Do you like the nursery? Daddy made it all nice for you.
(Jimmy kisses Ellen's belly in the middle then kisses Ellen)
Jimmy: Not much longer, Cupcake.
Ellen: (Giggles) Not much longer at all.
END OF SNIPPET 3
Mr. Nezzer: (Whispering) I think she's finally falling asleep.
Esther: (Whispering) Looks that way.
(Mr. Nezzer carefully picks up Hope then gently places her into her bassinet then kisses her forehead then goes back over to Esther)
Mr. Nezzer: I think it's time for you to also be getting some sleep.
(Esther smiles then leans against Mr. Nezzer then they hear a knock at the door)
Esther: Huh. Who do you think that is?
Mr. Nezzer: I don't know. Most of our friends have already visited.
(Mr. Nezzer goes over to the door then opens it then his eyes widen when he sees Mama Nezzer standing there)
Mr. Nezzer: (Surprised) Mama?
Mama Nezzer: Um...Hello Nebbykins.
Esther: Who is it, Nebby?
(Mama Nezzer moves inside the room then Esther gasps then frowns)
Esther: (Bitterly) You?
Mama Nezzer: Your friend Robert the Tomato gave me a phone call about it.
(Mr. Nezzer goes back over to Esther then turns to Mama Nezzer also frowning)
Mr. Nezzer: (Angrily) Mama, I meant what I said that you're no longer welcomed.
Mama Nezzer: And that's exactly why I've come here, my little bumpkins.
Esther: (Angrily) To make things worse?
Mama Nezzer: Well...I...
(Hope begins crying then Mama Nezzer looks over at the bassinet)
Mama Nezzer: Is that...?
(Mr. Nezzer goes over to the bassinet then picks up Hope then holds onto her protectively while glowering over at Mama Nezzer)
Mr. Nezzer: This is your granddaughter, Mama.
Mama Nezzer: Oh.
Esther: Her name is Hope.
Mama Nezzer: Um...That's...That's a lovely name.
Mr. Nezzer: Why have you really come over, Mama?
Mama Nezzer: I have something I want to say, to both of you.
Esther: (Bitterly) I thought we said all that was needed about a month ago.
Mama Nezzer: I deserved that. (Looks at Mr. Nezzer) I think the first thing I should do is apologize to you, Nebbykins.
(Mama Nezzer approaches Mr. Nezzer while he continues eyeing her warily and still holding Hope close)
Mr. Nezzer: (Bitterly) Go on.
Mama Nezzer: Nebby...I never should've told you that you were ruining your life, that marrying Esther and you two having a baby together was a mistake. I guess I was an old fool who just didn't like seeing her own baby settle down.
(Mama Nezzer turns to Esther)
Mama Nezzer: And Esther...I owe you a bigger apology. I shouldn't have been so mean towards you that day and tell you that you weren't part of the family. I now would like to start over and for us to get to know each other better...as in-laws.
(Esther and Mr. Nezzer look at each other then back to Mama Nezzer)
Mr. Nezzer: (Sighs) You still really can't take back what you said though, Mama.
Mama Nezzer: I know I can't Nebbykins and I don't expect you two to immediately forget about that but can you at least try to...forgive me?
Esther: We...We don't know.
Mama Nezzer: I...I also would really like to get to spend time with my granddaughter.
Mr. Nezzer: Your...granddaughter?
(Mama Nezzer nods)
Mama Nezzer: My granddaughter.
(Esther and Mr. Nezzer look down at the now cooing and giggling Hope then they look at Mama Nezzer)
Mr. Nezzer: Mama...We can never forget about what you said...
Esther: ...But God wants us to forgive. So...That's what we'll try to do.
Mama Nezzer: That's fair enough. (Looks at Hope). Can I...Can I hold her?
(Mr. Nezzer looks at Esther then she nods then Mr. Nezzer sighs then goes over to Mama Nezzer then slowly gives Hope to her)
Mama Nezzer: She's...she's beautiful, Nebby.
(Mr. Nezzer smiles a little followed by Esther then she leans against him then they continue watching Mama Nezzer admire Hope)
