Chapter seventeen: The beginning

Two months have passed since Rin left the village with Lord Sesshomaru and she loved every minute with him. The demon Lord had convinced her she hadn't seen everything in the West, and he was correct. There are a great many hidden gems tucked away in the western land, places you would only travel if you knew what you were looking for. One of her favorites was a huge cavern tucked up high into the Etanal Mountain. To others it looked like an ordinary mountain, the entrance is concealed, so many have no idea of this enchanted cave's existence.

At the front of the cave is ice cold water, clear as the sky and many items lodged into the bottom of it. Very old swords lost in time and different creatures such as neon-glowing worms and pastel colored fish that had tiny arms protruding behind their gills. Little black bats hung from the ceiling and if you look closely, you could see smudged writings and images on the walls. A language that even Sesshomaru with his many years of knowledge couldn't decipher.

Rin learned yet another thing about her mate, he was a genius. In demon society there is a school for Lords, it takes about twenty years to complete but he completed it in less than half. Before becoming the Lord of the West, he traveled extensively to different continents to learn their languages, history, customs, and fighting styles. Even going so far as to disguise himself as a human.

To Rin it seemed almost impossible with his white hair and marking that adorned his body, but she was quickly proven wrong. She looked away for a second and as she turned back the demon had long black hair and brown eyes, his markings nowhere in sight…just beautiful pale skin as he watched her reaction. Rin grasped his face and turned his head to the side and pushed the foreign colored hair behind his round ear, but to her surprise as she trailed her finger along his ear it felt pointed. Slowly the missing part of his ear reappeared and his hair returned to its natural color. He placed his hand over her own and leaned his face into it.

"An illusion." He stated calmly.

This particular topic of conversation lasted for hours. Rin hung onto every word he spoke, in his eyes there was so much knowledge as he spoke of his younger years.

"Sesshomaru, what is it you wanted to learn?" ask the woman.

He smiled at her, "Everything."

Rin smiled at the memory; she would never forget his beautiful, fanged smile. It was rare he genuinely smiled but so captivating when he did.

Rin too, wanted to know everything but her years are numbered, and it would take a century to learn everything he had lodged into his brain. He told her she was too curious, yet he was no different than she. Every day that passed the woman adored her demon more than she thought possible, his company a blessing and his voice the most enthralling. There were so many different layers to his personality and Rin wanted to know them all. They carried on many conversations during the day and at night they embraced each other as lovers do, showing their passion for each other.

Rin opened her eyes, and she was greeted with a blurred-out ceiling. As she went to get up, she found she couldn't move at all. The woman shifted her gaze from left to right and began panicking at the realization that she didn't know where she was, she couldn't move, and she couldn't speak.

Loud banging and screams echoed around the room, but she couldn't do anything, the sound of a door opening and slamming shut had unshed tears pooling in her eyes. She was terrified as the heavily labored breathing came closer and stumbled onto the edge of the bed.

A woman with dark chocolate hair and matching eyes stared down at her mournfully and her wet tears fell down onto Rin's face. Rin couldn't see her clearly and it did nothing to ease the dread she felt in the pit of her stomach.

"Karin…my Rin…I am so sorry. Please forgive me child." she begged.

The woman placed her palm to Rin forehead and threaded her fingers in her hair and chanted softly. A burning sensation took over her body as she tried to scream out but couldn't. Rin dared not to look away from the weeping woman as her body felt like it was on fire, every nerve had been activated to cause excruciating pain.

Sesshomaru

Rin's scream had him sprinting back throughout the cave, a scream that made his stomach feel as if it'd been punctured repeatedly. Once the Yakai was by her side he knew not what to do, he shook her, but she wouldn't wake up. Her eyes were wide open as she lay in her bedding unable to move, her beautiful eyes were clouded over with a white film giving her a haunting appearance. Rin's body was so stiff he couldn't move her arm up without breaking it.

Panic flooded through him, as he battled with what to do. Sesshomaru kept calling her name as tears poured down the woman's face.

"Rin!" He screamed.

The woman abruptly shot up and he wrapped her in his arms tightly as she fought to get out of his hold, screaming so loud it echoed throughout the cave.

He pinned her arms to her sides and cradled her in the fur on his shoulder, "Rin stop, please."

"My Lord..." she said, her voice rough from screaming.

Sesshomaru released her arms and she wrapped hers around his neck, he felt her tears on the skin of his neck as he held her. Rin had crawled into his lap refusing to let go of him.

Not knowing what to do, he rocked her back and forth, running his hand soothingly through her brown locks as his mind began to ponder on what the hell just happened.
