Preface
I'd never given much thought to how I would die - though I'd had reason enough in the last few months - but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this. I stared without breathing across the long room, into the dark eyes of the hunter, and he looked pleasantly back at me.
Hunter it must be one of the Cullen's. They better not hurt anyone, thought Billy. Hearing Billy's thoughts Edward became slightly irritated with the old man. Yes, the Cullen's had made mistakes over the years but compared to other vampires they were still good. Sending out calming waves, Jasper had looked over to Edward wondering how he was getting annoyed already.
Surely it was a good way to die in place of someone else, someone I loved. Noble, even. That ought to count for something.
They are a selfless person, thought Edward, but he was not the only one thinking so.Esme and Carlisle were worrying over the person's safety while Jasper was trying to figure out if it was someone they knew. Rosalie and Alice were just quietly listening wondering what was going to happen next, and Emmet was bored, he wanted someone to start fighting.
I knew if I'd never gone to Forks. I wouldn't be facing death now. But terrified as I was, I couldn't bring myself to regret the decision. When life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it's not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end.
Forks! Thought Charlie worriedly. He always cared about the safety of others, that's why he became a police officer. He hoped that the person was not hurt. Esme, one of the most compassionate of the group, was also worrying again.
The hunter smiled in a friendly way as he sauntered forward to kill me.
For a moment everyone was quiet as they worried for the person.
"Who would like to read next?" asked Jasper
"I will" answered Billy.
"First sight . . ."
