The Langford Building housed the engineering department. The senior class of engineers took great pains to show her the major architectural finds throughout the campus. While she enjoyed her tour, after standing for the duration of her lecture, her heels began to feel like medieval torture devices. After an hour touring the campus, her head began to ache and she started feeling dizzy. Her black and white pinstripe pant suit began to feel constrictive. Was her breathing labored? Begging off of the tour, she shook some hands, posed for a few photos, signed some book autographs, and ordered a car. While waiting at the student center, she did a quick mental inventory of what she had eaten so far:
Avocado Toast, Grapefruit, and Tea…nothing unusual there. She had walked several miles around campus after a one hour lecture, but this was no great deviation from her regular routine. Her lab was hundreds of steps away from the bone room and she endured never ending hikes to crime scenes with Booth. Booth- she let out a pained breath and thought about her partner. It took one year for this man to become an absolute necessity to her. He was an anomaly- so fluid in his demeanor, yet with a rock solid faith in God. She couldn't pinpoint exactly when it happened. It might have been the case when she had to testify as an expert in a case against her mentor/ex. In that moment, she hated Booth for being able to so easily tap into her emotions. She hated that he knew exactly what switch to throw and that he didn't hesitate to do it. But wasn't that exactly who she was? She knew bone matter, but he knew the matters of human emotion. He mirrored her in that he was a expert in his field , like she was in hers. Maybe she could pinpoint exactly when it happened- exactly when loathing turned into something more- exactly when Seeley Booth became irreplaceable in her life.
Brennan snapped out of her thoughts when her car arrived. A midnight noir BMW Coupe. She remembered the color from a case she and Booth worked. Why couldn't she remember which case? Her mind felt slippery she couldn't hang on to one line of thought. Then her body seemed paralyzed- she couldn't move. Something was wrong with her. This was more than just the Texas hear, she had been drugged. It occurred to her sometime into the ride that she was laying sideways in the backseat. She felt her heart race increase and her head began to race. Was she having a heart attack? She took small shallow breaths and looked towards the car's clock to count her BPMs. She found that she couldn't even keep count. Her eyes began to glaze, but not before she noticed a shadowy figure in the front seat. "How have you been Dr. Brennan…did you enjoy your tea?" was all she heard before her entire world disappeared into darkness.
