Chapter 23: Ash vs Brassius
Ash and Brassius were now standing at the arena where their battle will take place, the rules being that each trainer will use 3 Pokemon.
"Now Ash, let's make this battle a masterpiece, Petilil bring out your splendor!" Brassius shouted as he snet out his first Pokemon: A Petilil. Ash observed his first opponent before he brought out his own Pokemon.
"Nymble, I choose you!" He then sends out his bug type, ready for a battle.
"Let's start off on the right stroke, Petilil, use Magical Leaf!" Petilil then summoned multiple colorful leaves and hurled them at Nymble. "Nymble, jump up and use Double Kick!" Ash commanded, and Nymble leapt into the air, however, this did little to evade Magical Leaf, as it homed in on the grasshopper and scored a direct hit.
"This isn't good for Nymble" Felia muttered "Yeah, Magical Leaf never misses and Nymble doesn't have any ranged attacks" Nemona pointed out. However, Ash stood firm, knowing that the battle had just started.
"Let's see how well you learned this move Nymble, use Double Team!" And just like that, Nymble somehow multiplied itself, and the copies surrounded Petilil.
"That won't save you, Magical Leaf again!" Petilil fired off colored leaves again, and they all landed on the copies, but none of them hit the real Nymble.
"How about this? Use Assurance!" Ash shouted, and Nymble hopped from above and kicked Petilil with a powerful Assurance attack, sending Petilil skidding backwards.
"Hmm, that was as well executed as a masterful brush stroke, but try this, use Stun Spore!" Brassius said, and Petilil began to scatter a cloud of spore towards Nymble, but this wasn't much of an inssue for Nymble as he simply dodged out of the way.
"Now, use Pounce!" Surrounded by bug type energy, Nymble lunged towards Petilil and slammed into her with great force, making her fall backwards. "We are far from over, Sleep Powder!" Unfortunately for Nymble, he was too close to Petilil, and was slammed with the effects of Sleep Powder.
"Oh no!" Ash cried out "Pika pi!" "Now, use Mega Drain!" Petilil then began to draw green orbs from Nymble's unconscious body, healing its wounds and restoring some vigor,
"If Nymble doesn't wake up soon then he'll be a goner" Felia remarked "Let's hope that a miracle happens" Thomas added. Thankfully, after the fourth Mega Drain, Nymble woke up, but heavily drained.
"Nymble can't anymore hits, or else he's done for, I'll need to fight smart" Ash said to himself as he formulated a plan in his mind.
"One more Magical Leaf to complete this canvas!" Brassius shouted, and Petilil attacked, but Ash was ready. "Use Double Kick on the ground!" And with that, Nymble kicked the ground, sending multiple rocks into the air and blocking the Magical Leaf.
"Wow, that's really clever" Penny said with awe in her voice "Yeah, who knew attacks could be used like that" Vanny "I better take notes." Taking advantage of their cover, Ash instructed his next move "Now, hop over the rocks and land a direct Pounce attack!" Doing as he is told, Nymble began hopping from rock to rock before reaching his target and slamming into Petilil, knocking her out.
"Petilil is unable to battle, Nymble wins!"
"Petilil, return, I will not let your defeat be in vain, go Dolliv!"
Brassius then sends out a humanoid Pokemon with stylings resembling an olive. Ash immediately pulled out his Rotom Phone for some information.
Dolliv: The Olive Pokemon, a grass and normal type. It basks in the sun to its heart's content, they have coexisted with humans for a long time.
Ash thought about it for a moment before he made his decision. "Nymble, return!" He then recalled his bug type back into his pokeball.
"Why is he returning Nymble?" Carla asked "Nymble has taken a lot of damage from those Mega Drains, I guess Ash is being more safe" Arven guessed, with Ash sending out his next Pokemon.
"Wattrel, I choose you!"
He then sends out his storm petrel Pokemon to fight Dolliv, and the battle continues.
"Dolliv, use Trailblaze!"
Dolliv then surrounded herself in foliage before charging forward and slamming into Wattrel. "Quick, use Peck!" Wattrel flew forward and attempted to jab Dolliv with his beak, but Dolliv managed to get out of the way and hit Wattrel with another Trailblaze attack.
"Gah! What move is Trailblaze anyway?!" Ash soon got the answer on his Rotom Phone
Trailblaze: A grass type attack that enhances speed.
"No wonder, be on your guard Wattrel!"
"Waaaaattrel!"
"Trailblaze, that's a tricky move to get around" Nemona said "Yeah, you know what they say, the Torterra beats the Cinderace" Thomas said.
"Good, now use Quick Attack!" Wattrel then zipped out of existence before smacking right into Dolliv, sending her backwards. "Now, use Thundershock!" "I think not, Energy Ball!" Wattrel fired a bolt of lightning while Dolliv fired a ball of green energy, the attacks collided and a bunch of smoke was kicked up.
Ash couldn't see, and nor could Wattrel and they scanned the area to hopefully find their opponent, but when the smoke cleared, they saw Dolliv right in front of Wattrel.
"Now, use Flail!" Brassius commanded, and Dolliv began to smack Wattrel with everything she could use. But thinking quickly, Ash had Wattrel use Thunder Wave to paralyze her, slowing her down as an added bonus.
"Now, use Pe-" But before he could finish his command, Wattrel's wings glowed a whitish blue color and he charged forward and slammed then against Dolliv, knocking her out.
"Dolliv is unable to battle, Wattrel wins!"
"Alright Wattrel!" "Pika pi"
Wattrel flew back to his trainer and cawed happily.
"What did Wattrel use?" Felia said in shock "I think that was Dual Wingbeat" Zeke said while scrolling through a book about Pokemon moves.
"I can't believe you learned Dual Wingbeat out of nowhere, that seems to be common thing now that I think about it.." Ash said while Brassius brought out his final Pokemon: his Sudowoodo.
"Think you can still fight?" "Waaaaaatt!" "Alright, go get em!"
Wattrel flew back into action, ready for more. "Now, use Peck!" Wattrel's beak glowed again, ready to jab the rock type. "Don't let him reach you, dash his art with Stone Edge!" Sudowoodo then struck the ground with his fist, causing sharp rocks to sprout from the ground and stop Wattrel in his tracks, sending him out for the count.
"Wattrel is unable to battle, Sudowoodo wins!"
"Ouch, only one move is all it take sfor Wattrel to go down" Gus cringed to himself.
"Nymble, I choose you!"
Nymble appeared again, but is still rather winded. "Use Stone Edge!" Brassius ordered Sudowoodo, who made sharp rocks again. "Not this time, use Double Kick on that Stone Edge!" Ash countered, with Nymble kicking away the Stone Edge with his hind legs.
"Wow, smart move by Ash!" Arven whistled, impressed "You tell me, even offensive moves have defensive applications" Nemona stated.
"Now, use Double Team!" Nymble created copies of himself again, but this time, Brassius was prepared. "Strike the ground with Ice Punch!"
Sudowoodo then punched the ground, turning it into a veritable ice rink, and this caused the real Nymble to freeze up. "Oh no!" "Now, use Fire Punch!" Sudowoodo jumped into the air and slugged Nymble with a fiery fist, shattering the ice as a result.
"Nymble is unable to battle, Sudowoodo wins!"
"Well that was anti-climactic" Vanny said with a dead-pan look on her face. Ash was now down to his last Pokemon, making the match even at last.
"Fuecoco, I choose you!"
He then sends his fire croc to do battle, and immediately he took action. "Fuecoco, Flame Charge!" Fuecoco then surrounded itself with flames and ran towards Sudowoodo. "Dodge it!" Brassius ordered, and Sudowoodo did just that "Keep using Flame Charge!" Fuecoco did so, but Sudowoodo kept dodging.
"Why does he keep using Flame Charge? It's not going to help him any further" Penny wondered, but then she got her answer when Fuecoco zipped in the blink of an eye, and slammed into Sudowoodo. "Of course, Flame Charge increases speed just like Trailblaze!"
With his strategy now revealed, Brassius could only look on in frustration as Fuecoco was now zipping side to side, as if he was taunting him. "Sudowoodo, it's time we showed him what a true speed stroke is" He then pulled out his tera orb and used it to terastalize Sudowoodo, resulting in him gaining a crown with flowers in it.
"You too Fuecoco! let's Terastalize!" Ash shouted as he terastalized his Fuecoco, giving him a fire tera crown.
"Trailblaze!" "Flame Charge!" Both Pokemon charged forward and clashed, neither backing down against each other, until an explosion pushed them back from each other. "Use Stone Edge!" "Use Flamethrower!" Intense flames clashed with sharp rocks, trying to melt them down to the ground, but it didn't work and Fuecoco barely got out of the way.
"Use Ice Punch!" Sudowoodo zoomed up to Fuecoco and slugged him with a freezing fist "Snarl!" Fuecoco then retaliated with a shouted that startled the rock type.
The battle continued on fiercely, with Fuecoco launching tera-boosted Flamethrowers and Sudowoodo dashing about with Trailblaze until Ash finally broke the stalemate. "Use Flamethrower, burn the battlefield!" Fuecoco did so, and soon the battlefield was a scorching inferno, and thanks to Sudowoodo's tera type, he was starting to burn up. "NOOOOO! This is a masterpiece ruined!" Brassius yelled in a dramatic fashion "Let's wrap this up! USE SNARL!"
One Snarl later, Sudowoodo was out for the count.
"Sudowoodo is unable to battle, the winner of this match is Ash Ketchum"
Brassius then returned his Sudowoodo and approached Ash "That was a masterful display young man, I believe you are deserving of this." He then presented a badge with the grass type symbol. "The nature badge" Ash then took it and beamed.
"Alright, I won the nature badge!" Ash shouted in triumph as he celebrated with Nymble, Fuecoco, and Wattrel.
After they went back to their hotel rooms, Ash observed the badges he got so far, bug, rock, and grass. The rock badge was made by Arven to show that they found an Herba Mystica.
"And we're only getting started"
