Chapter 29: High in the sky
It wasn't long until Ash and his class eventually found the mountain that the reported sighting of the Herba Mystica, and the climb that would lead them up to the top would not be easy.
There was very rough terrain and uneven footing amongst the trail, making it practically impossible to get up the mountain by foot.
"Ok everyone, let's see if we can bring out any Pokemon that can help us with the climb up" Ash said as he sent out his Klawf. "No worries here, my Orthworm will carry me and a couple more" Vanny said "Good for you, at least I have my Garganacl to carry me" Arven said as he brought out his rock type to carry him up the jagged slopes. Nemona then sent out her Lycanroc, with Thomas sending out his Clodsire, Penny sends out her Flareon, Carla and Zeke hop onto Vanny's Orthworm, Felia doubled up with Nemona, and Gus hopped onto his Bellibolt.
"Alright gang, let's get moving, for Mabosstiff!" "For Mabosstiff!"
They began their climb up the mountain, their selected Pokemon handling the terrain quite well, with Vanny taking the lead with her Orthworm slithering up the slopes with ease.
"Heh, this is easier than I thought!" Vanny said "Don't say things like that, or else bad things might happen" Zeke said with a worried tone. "Pfft, like that would ever happen" But after Vanny said that, she felt a pebble fall on her head with a comical bonk. "Ouch, must be a loose one" Then, another pebble fell on her head, but it was a bit larger.
"Told you bad things might happen" Zeke said "You jinxed us!" Carla accused her fellow classmate, until a large boulder fell in front of Orhtworm startling him.
"The heck is going on?!" Penny said as everyone looked up. They saw a giant stork Pokemon with an apron that resembled a baby bundle, but in place of a baby, there were a bunch of rocks contained within the apron. It's feathers were a whitish-gray with black at the tips, a long neck and beak, and sharp talons with the back one resembling a heel.
"Who's that Pokemon?" Ash then pulled out his Rotom Phone
Bombirdier: The Item Drop Pokemon, a flying and dark type.
It stores food in its apron, it likes to startle unsuspecting trainers by dropping items to make loud noises
"And apparently likes to drop rocks to flatten us!" Arven shouted as Garganacl shielded him from the Rock Throw attack.
"DOUBLE TIME!" Ash shouted, and everyone hastened their pace up the mountain. Penny and Flareon were at the most risk, as Flareon is a fire type, and thus, weak to rock type attacks. Orthworm tried his best to shield Flareon from the Rock Throw attacks, but it was too thin to provide and good cover.
Flareonw as eventually struck by a Rock Throw, and was about to drop Penny until she was grabbed by Garganacl.
"Thanks Garganacl" Penny said with gratitude.
"Gaaaaaaarrr"
Penny then returned Flareon as they continued up the mountain.
They eventually found a place to rest and hide from any possible rock attacks, and they decided to rest their mounts before continuing onward.
"I don't think that experience was pleasent for my Bellibolt" Gus said as he sprayed a Super Potion on the cuts of his elefrog Pokemon. "I didn't expect for that Bombirdier to be so strong with its Rock Throw" Felia remarked "That's thanks to its Rocky Payload ability" Nemona answered.
"Rocky Payload?" Ash asked "Pika?" "It works very much like Dhelmise's Steelworker ability, it powers up its rock type attacks" Nemona answered once more. "Ahh" Ash acknowledged in response to this newfound knowledge.
"There's no doubt about it" Arven said "That's the Open Sky Titan!"
"So we not only have to climb up a mountain filled with sharp rocks, but we also have to deal with a bird dropping rocks on us as well? Oh lucky day for us" Gus said with sarcasm. "We can overcome any obstacle if we face it the right way" Ash said, trying to get the others' spirits up.
"I don't know Ash, I don't want to get hammered with boulders again" Penny said while tending to her Flareon's injury "And that's where I have an idea, Wattrel, I choose you!"
"Waaaaaaaatt!"
"I need you to scout ahead and look for any possible routes that will be safe to traverse"
"Wattrel"
And just like that, the storm petrel flew up the mountain to search for any possible routes that the group can go through without the Open Sky titan to hound them. As he few, Wattrel couldn't help but marvel how high we was, he felt so free, so light, so- wait, what was he doing?!
"Wwwwwww" "Wattrel"
He needed to focus on finding a safe path right now, there's no time to get distracted. Soon enough, he found a smooth looking slope that didn't have any sharp rocks, which Ash and the gang could use to get to the top.
"Waaaaatt!"
He flew back down to where Ash was and told him about the slope. "Great work buddy, I knew I could count on you" Wattrel beamed at the appraisal and hoppon onto Ash's head.
"Alright gang, let's move!"
Compared to the first half of the climb, the second half was a much smoother experience, as they only have to go by foot. They eventually reached the top, where they saw the Open Sky Titan waiting for them.
Wasting no time, Ash sent out his Klawf and Pikachu, Vanny sent out her Nacli, Nemona sent out Lycanroc, Arven sent out his Garganacl, Thomas sent out his Shroodle, Felia sent out her Vivillon, Carla sent out her Wiglett, Gus sent out his Bellibolt, Zeke sent out his Fidough, and Penny sent out her Eevee.
The battle had begun
"Pikachu, start strong with Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu released a giant bolt of electricity that went straight for Bombirdier, but little did they know this battle would be a lot trickier than they first thought.
Bombirdier had rightfully earned its reputation as a dark type by using the battlefield to its advantage, using the rocky spires to hide behind while making deft maneuvers.
"This isn't getting us anywhere! Garganacl, use Hammer Arm to smash those rocks away!" Arven ordered, and the salt giant got to work, reducing the spires to pebbles, and reducing the cover that Bombirdier was using.
Unfortunately, Bombirdier realized this, and swooped in and used Torment on Garganacl, preventing him from using Hammer Arm repeatedly.
"Ooh, that's one sneaky stork!" Vanny growled "Use Smack Down!"
Nacli launched a large rock, but it was countered by Bombirdier's Rock Throw, cancelling the attacks out and creating a cloud of dust. Suddenly, Bombirdier swooped in and attacked Vivillon with a Pluck attack, knocking her out.
"Oh no!" Felia quickly rushed to her butterfly Pokemon and got to work on caring for her "Oh so you wanna play dirty huh? Well fine by me, Shroodle, use Acid Spray!" Thomas shouted, and Shroodle sprayed acid from his mouth, focused by his buck teeth. Bombirdier managed to dodge the attack, but he was now left vulnerable.
"Now Lycanroc, use Accellerock!"
The crag wolf leapt towards the stork and slammed into it with great force, making it stagger before correcting itself.
It let out an angered shriek and swooped in for another attack.
"Hit the deck!"
But what they didn't expect was for Bombirdier to grab Shroodle and Eevee with its talons and fly back up with them. "Hey, that's dirty!" Penny shouted "I'll get them back, use Play Rough!" Fidough jumped into the air, but was struck by a Wing Attack, making him plummet. Thankfully, Wattrel was there to grab him and carry him to safety.
Bombirdier then saw how this fight was playing, and how he was starting to get cornered, especially now that Garganacl had finally got rid of the spires, that's when it got an evil idea.
He then tossed Shroodle and Eevee at his attackers, hitting Bellibolt and Wiglett, and thus, incapacitating them. Wattrel was angered by this and fired a Thundershock attack, but it barely did anything, and he was bat aside with a Wing Attack.
That was when it began to use Whirlwind, with the intent on blowing everyone off the mountain. They had to cling onto their heavier Pokemon to stop themselves from falling off, unfortunately, Pikachu was too late, and fell off the cliff.
"PIKACHU!"
"PIKA PIIIIII!"
Ash could do nothing but watch as Pikachu was sent plummeting to what was going to be a very painful landing. Wattrel flew after him, hoping to grab him and bring him back up, but he was barely able to reach Pikachu, who's descent was only increasing in speed.
But Wattrel couldn't just let him fall like that, he had to save him, he had to.
Wattrel was then surrounded by a field of electricity with a blue aura inside of the field. Suddenly, Wattrel dashed towards Pikachu with blinding speed and grabbed him before making a sharp u-turn and flying back up the mountain.
When he arrived back, the electric field was gone, and in Wattrel's place was a larger version with a pronounced throat pouch.
"KILOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
"Wow! Wattrel evolved into Kilowattrel!" Gus said with amazement. "Kilowattrel?" Ash wondered as he pulled out his Rotom Phone.
Kilowattrel: The storm petrel Pokemon, and the evolved form of Wattrel
It inflates its throat sac to amplify its electrical power, it's a poor swimmer due to the lack of oil in its feathers
"Incredible! Alright Kilowattrel, let's teach this bird a lesson!" Ash shouted with excitement, with Kilowattrel shrieking in response.
Bombirdier used another Whirlwind straight towards the newly evolved bird, but it barely did anything thanks to Kilowattrel's Wind Power ability, which just charged him with more energy. Kilowattrel then took off like a bullet, which surprised Bombirdier, and landed a good Dual Wingbeat attack before flying off.
Enraged, the Bombirdier flew after him in an aerial chase. However, Kilowattrel was far too fast and agile for the titan to catch up with, and Kilowattrel took this change to blindside him with another Dual Wingbeat before flying back to Ash.
"Alright Kilowattrel, let's show him your true power, use Electro Ball!"
Kilowattrel then summoned a ball of electricity which he then threw at the stork, nailing him right in the plumage. And considering the amp from Wind Power, it was practically a knock-out, before he then fell back onto the peak.
"That was awesome!" Felia cheered with Vivillon, whom had just recovered. "Totally, Kilowattrel was possibly the fastest I have ever seen from a bird" Gus agreed.
Arven however went into the cavern that had just opened up, which contained the Bitter Herba Mystica, and he was excited to have found it. "Alright, it's time for me to work my magic" And with that, another set of sandwiches were made, which Koraidon, Miraidon, and Mabosstiff were happy enjoyers of.
"I heard that these herbs are good for blood circulation, and for immune system development" Thomas said with mouth watering "If that's the case then I wish I could find more of these herbs" Carla said smelling the pleasant aroma of the freshly made sandwiches.
Koraidon and Miraidon were now able to swim across bodies of water, and Mabosstiff was now able to open his eyes, looking much better now.
"This is great, now these two can ferry us across water" Gus said while munching on his sandwich "And Mabosstiff is doing better now" Arven said with a bright smile while rubbing the dog's back, which the dark type enjoyed.
"I just hope all three of them can get back to their true strength" Ash said, looking at the napping legendaries, he really wanted to see them reach their true power.
"Kilo?"
Ash then saw his newly evolved Kilowattrel look at him.
"Of course I'm proud of you evolving, that was amazing!"
"Waaaaatt!"
Kilowattrel was filled with so much joy that he ended up electrocuting Ash in excitement, which Pikachu saw and replied with 'Hey, that's my thing!'. Everyone laughed at the silly situation and continued eating their sandwiches.
