If the last months had shown Beth anything it was that everything always was and nothing ever was as it seemed. Snow of course always had a plan, it was just a question of when it benefitted him to let other people in on it. Keeping things hidden from him on the other hand was never an option. At the very least that made otherwise boring meetings and dinners far more interesting.

Beth managed to survive the 72nd Hunger Games at 18. Sometimes she wished she hadn't. But deep down she had to admit that her life wasn't all that bad the way it turned out. People were falling over themselves to hand her anything and everything she could ever want, and all she had to do was keep up appearances. After all, her husband had an image to uphold.

There's but one problem with the Victor's mask. For it to work, the victor must have two essential things; haunting vivid memories and loved ones they would trade their lives to protect. One without the other is to no use. So when Olive Navin Cresta survives the 69th Hunger Games with no recollection of her time in the Arena, the mask gets destroyed before it's even placed.

Two choices: Live and die in District 12 like her parents or Run and hide for the rest of her life, leaving everything she has known behind including her only friends.
