AN: This is my second attempt at writing any kind of fiction(and the first one was a terrible failure), and I don't know anything about writing, so don't expect anything amazing.

Satanic Origins

Arc 1 Chapter 1 - Rebirth

Death is feared by most people, and for good reason. After all, no one knows what happens when you die even if many religions try to explain it. Me? I thought there was no afterlife, and that death was simply the end, a total erasure of one's existence. Turns out I was wrong if the large blue sign in this black void is anything to go by.

Congratulations! You've been selected for Rebirth!

Alternatively, I could be hallucinating, but I am fairly sure that I couldn't have survived a half-kilometre fall onto concrete (long story). So, reincarnation is it? If that's the case then the Buddhists or Hindus were right, not sure I haven't paid attention to religions. Regardless, I feel that my Karma would be quite poor, all things considered.

You would be incorrect.

Huh?

This has no relation to any religion, or karma for that matter. You have been randomly selected out of a sample of several billion souls to be reincarnated into a different world.

Wait. Does this mean I am being ROB-d? Isekaid?

Yes, you could say that.

I am oddly calm for someone who has just died, and I have a feeling that this isn't from shock. Why am I not panicking?

Your mind has been altered to remove any attachments to your old life by the reincarnation system. Previous reborns commonly ended up with serious psychological issues due to them.

I feel like I should be angrier about this, but I see your point. So, what's next? Did you mention something about different worlds?

Yes. Many of the worlds that you humans consider 'fictional' and simply made up stories are in reality their own, very real universes. Across this vast multiverse, anything that could exist does exist. You are going to be sent to one of these universes.

This is starting to sound like one of those crappy fanfictions that I've heard about. Great. Wait, uh, system? God? Who I am talking to? Do I get one of those 'gamer' systems that I've read about as well?

No. The Gamer system has been erased from the reincarnation system and all its users were eliminated after an incident which almost destroyed the multiverse.

…I see. Well, that's unfortunate given how big of a cheat that would be to have. So, what next?

Your world will be randomly selected. Please wait.

Well, this could be either really good or bad. I hope I don't get reincarnated into a world like Warhammer 40k or Worm.

Randomisation complete - High School DxD selected

Seriously? The pseudo-hentai anime with a protagonist powered by boobs? I know basically nothing about it! I barely finished 2 seasons of it before I stopped watching that shitshow! Well, at least it's not Warhammer.

Select Race

[Human]

The most common race in DxD. Your best choice if you wish to avoid the supernatural and live a 'normal' life.

[Angel]

Created by the God of the Bible to spread his will, a powerful supernatural race. While you start out powerful and protected by heaven, it is extremely difficult to improve your power in any meaningful way, not to mention having to constantly control yourself to ensure that you avoid falling.

[Fallen Angel]

Angels who have fallen to sin, they are nearly identical to regular angels. The largest difference would be that their regeneration is reduced drastically in comparison to regular angels, but they get to enjoy the pleasures of life, unlike the rule-bound angels.

[Devil]

Creatures of Sin, devils have the greatest population out of the 3 Biblical factions. Their potential growth is unparalleled, their magic system adaptable, and the 72 pillars of Ars Goetia form one of the most powerful factions in this world. All of their advantages are balanced by their weakness to the Holy element and the bad stigma associated with devils across both the supernatural and regular worlds.

[Youkai]

A broad category that includes many different subspecies, the Youkai are a group of various supernatural beings from Asia. While many variations exist, they share a common theme of being able to use Senjutsu and possessing supernatural strength.

[Vampire]

Vampires are creatures of darkness originating from Romania, with ageless bodies and the ability to gain temporary powers by drinking the blood of other creatures. On top of that, they can use various shadow and darkness related magics. A solid choice.

[Grim Reaper]

Grim Reapers are servants of Hades, with powerful lifespan shortening and necrotic abilities amongst other things. A strong race, however, its members are stifled by a lack of growth potential and their servitude.

[Norse Creature]

Valkyries, Elves, Trolls, you name it. A varied group, with the common theme of residing in Yggdrasill. Depending on the exact sub-species which you get, you can become quite powerful as one. Most Norse creatures have relatively easy access to Norse magic.

[Others]

If you wish to browse the more obscure races, please select this option

Wow, that's a lot of options. The question is, if I select a race, will I be granted the choice to select the sub-species?

Yes

Hm. Well, the human race is out of the question, no need to put myself at the bottom of the food chain. Angel would be a poor choice as well, I don't think I would last a day before falling. I didn't even know that Grim Reapers are a thing in DxD, but that is a definite no, I have no desire to be a skeletal servant to some Greek god. On that note, I should have figured that Norse creatures exist in DxD with all the pagan references, but somehow I missed it. Oh well, I am not going to mess with them either because I don't know anything about them in the context of DxD. The Youkai are a no as well, I have no interest in having the head of a dog or foxtails. That leaves me with the Vampires, Devils and Fallen Angels.

Based on what I remember in the show, Fallen Angels seem to be quite strong on an individual basis at least compared to re-incarnated devils, but other than Kokabiel and Azazel they seemed to be no match for Rias and Akeno, who are quite low on the devil pecking order (as far as I remember anyway?). Besides, they seem to be the weakest faction given they are made up of exclusively angels who fell and are supported by some low grade excommunicated exorcists. Probably not the best choice.

I am not going to pick vampires because I know nothing about them, and if it wasn't for Gasper I wouldn't even know that they existed. The description makes them out to be some small faction in Romania, and while immortality is something I would really like to have, I think there are other ways to get it in the DxD universe.

Lastly, there are the devils. As far as I can remember, these are supposed to be the good guys of the show despite being, well, devils, and they seem to have the largest support base and strongest people. The potential power a devil can reach is humongous based on what was said in the show, and they own an entire dimension of their own. Not much of a contest compared to the other two.

Making up my mind, I pick the devil race.

Select Type

[Pure-Blooded Devil]

You will be reborn as a pure-blooded devil, who are pureblooded descendants of the original devils created by Lilith. Due to excessive population loss, pureblooded devils are in high demand and you will be more respected as one.

[Mixed Heritage Devil]

You will be reborn as either the child of a reincarnated devil and a pureblood or as a child of two reincarnated devils. You will encounter a significant amount of discrimination against mixed heritage devils from certain groups in Ars Goetia.

Well, this is a fairly easy choice as well. One has all the benefits, while the other doesn't. I choose the Pure-blooded devil.

Select Origin

[Noble Household]

You will be reborn into a noble household, with a high likelihood of acquiring a bloodline power. Furthermore, you are likely to be granted some of the best luxuries that Ars Goetia can offer. On the other hand, this choice can be rather restrictive to your freedom depending on which family you end up in.

[Commoner]

You will be reborn into a low-class commoner family. While you won't get a bloodline power from this, and your parents will likely be weaker resulting in you being weaker to start with, you will have a greater amount of flexibility than with the Noble Household start.

Do I get to select this too? Well, that's unexpected. Regardless, this seems like another no-brainer, with all the benefits of a noble household, you'd have to be stupid to select being a commoner. I chose the Noble Household origin.

Very well. Your rebirth will now begin.

Wait! I still have questio-

POV Rezivan Lucifer

It's not pleasant being reborn into a new body. While I don't remember much about my birth, I know for a fact that it was very painful. Thankfully, while I was moved into this new body, it took some time for the brain to be able to handle conscious thought. I don't think I would have gotten through being a baby if I was aware of everything, and had my memories.

Though that's enough talk about my birth, as there is a much bigger issue. When I chose to be reborn into a noble household, I didn't expect it to be… this. Turns out, I am the 2nd son of someone called 'Rizevim Livan Lucifer', so I thought that I must have been reborn quite far in the past, given that Sirzechs was the Lucifer during the DxD series. But then I realised that I too was a Lucifer, and so was my adult brother 'Razevan', which shouldn't be possible given that Lucifer was a title.

Then I remembered that peace conference and the fact that Katerea Leviathan existed despite Serafall already being a Leviathan, and she said something about the 'Old Satan houses' and that Sirzechs and company 'stole' the satan titles. If I remember correctly, they also seemed to be the villains of the series, and Katarea died as soon as she was introduced. That's just great…

"Rezivan, focus!"

Right, this isn't the best time to be dazing off. I bring one of my 12 wings in front of me and channel demonic power into it just in time for it to block a bolt of Euclid's demonic power, the force of which causes me to stagger back.

"You mustn't be distracted in battle if you want to survive, Rezivan! If I wasn't holding back and took advantage of your distraction, I could've easily injured you."

Now, this training is something that I insisted on doing myself. I am training with Euclid Lucifuge, a 'faithful servant' of Rizevim. Why you might ask? Because if I am going to be a wanted man in this world, I need to be prepared to deal with some seriously overpowered entities. If Azazel, a 10-winged fallen angel, was able to kill Katerea Leviathan easily, then I must ensure that I don't meet the same fate. Another motivation is so that Rizevim won't view me as a disappointment as he views Razevan, something that I managed to avoid so far.

I bring my wing back behind me, jumping back while charging up demonic power, I release a bolt of my own from my outstretched arm at Euclid, something that he easily blocks with his right hand.

"Your control over demonic power is getting better, Rezivan! You're better than Razevan was at this age. Let's see how you handle this then!"

Suddenly, 10 small orbs of demonic power materialise around Euclid and shoot toward me. Panicking, I bring forth all 12 of my wings and reinforce them with all my demonic power, moving them in front of me as a shield, feeling them harden with a glow - just in time, as the orbs slam into them. I can feel my demonic power depleting as I am pushed off my feet and shot into a nearby wall, but come out unscathed.

Withdrawing my wings as I start to stand up, my success is short-lived as Euclid's foot lands on my chest, knocking the wind out of me.

"You lose." Euclid states, before removing his foot.

"Ugh, what was that for? I blocked the attack!"

"You may have blocked the attack, but you let yourself get blown away and into a vulnerable position. You should've dodged that attack. Now, get up and try again!"

Why did I put myself up for this again?

POV Euclid Lucifuge

"My lord"

Euclid spoke as he kneeled in front of the one he pledged to serve, as he has done for centuries.

"Report"

Rizevim replied with a bored tone - it seemed like nothing could excite him these days - Euclid was still shocked at the fact that Rivezim decided to have another son after all these years, but it seemed that whatever impulse that caused him to make that decision vanished shortly after. Regardless, Euclid carried on in his duties, as he always has - unlike a certain someone.

"There are several things of note: The young lord continues his training diligently - at this point, he might even be able to defend himself from a low-class devil soldier, if we're being generous."

His master cocked an eyebrow at this, and Euclid cut his report off - he knew his master well, and he knew that he wasn't interested in further details - despite this, his next words surprised him.

"Interesting. Perhaps he'll be different from his brother, then. You mentioned something else of note?"

Not that he let it show on his face - Euclid was a professional servant after all.

"Yes. It appears that Razevan Lucifer has had an affair with another human woman, which isn't particularly surprising given his usual behaviour, it seems that by some miracle this union bore fruit - the woman appears to be pregnant with child, one that was picked up on the house wards, as it seems that Razevan has decided to try and hide this woman in his chambers."

Euclid could see how his master's face morphed from boredom into surprise, from surprise into anger, and from anger into indifference, all while he was speaking.

"I see. Keep me updated. Anything else?"

Euclid wasn't sure why he was surprised at this answer, given it was far more in-line with his lord's usual personality, however he expected a greater reaction after the comments made about the young lord. Nonetheless, he continued the monthly report.

"Yes my lord, the package of Agares crystals you requested has been delayed due to…

AN2: I am writing this story because I desire something that breaks the usual mould of DxD's OC inserts, and fanfiction in general. I haven't found any fanfiction that has a protagonist on the side of the Old Satan faction, or much of the Old Satan faction in general. It is generally played for laughs at best, being used as cannon fodder and convenient enemies for the early journey of the usual protagonist. While this may be deserved given their performance in the show, I myself have been fascinated with them, and this is the result.

In regards to the main character, I wish to make it clear that this won't be a stomp fic where he rolls over his enemies, takes all their women and creates a massive harem while somehow convincing everyone around him that he is the good guy. Rezivan will struggle, and he certainly won't be the strongest player on the board for a very long time. The New Satan faction has a massive advantage after all, both in public perception, numbers, resources, and the power of individual fighters, and that's before the peace treaty.

Additionally, do not expect the protagonist to get everything perfect all the time - he is a flawed individual, and while intelligent, he is not some stoic genius capable of constantly making the best logical decisions. He will have his own biases, come to his own conclusions, he will sometimes fail.

Lastly, before I end this already far too long AN, I will say that this entire story will be written from the perspectives of various unreliable narrators. Please take that into account.
