At home, Chase and Sam were still waiting for Marshall and Ryder to get home. They were about to go out and search just as the two ran inside. "Sorry for being late, Mom," Ryder apologized.
"That's alright," Sam responded, "Just as long as you explain…. What's that thing on Marshall's back?" The Dalmatian looked back to see he had forgotten to take something off.
"Oops," he muttered, "Kendra's probably going to want this back."
"But what is it?" Chase asked.
"It's a prototype for the pup pack I sketched," Ryder explained. "It actually works." He checked his pockets and saw that he also still had the remote. While taking it out of his pocket, he accidentally pushed the button, and another tennis ball fired out of the launcher. Chase ducked as the ball flew right above his head. "Oh, crud, sorry Chase."
"I'm alright," the German shepherd noted. He walked over to grab the tennis ball and returned with it in his mouth. "Nothing's broken."
"Okay, that's good," Sam sighed with relief. He turned back to Ryder, who was removing the prototype from Marshall. "I think it'll be best to only test that outside."
"Got it," Ryder noted. He went to find a place to put the prototype as Marshall had to ask Chase something.
"Say, Chase, why didn't you come with us?" the Dalmatian asked. "We got to see where Zuma and Rubble live."
"Um… I just wanted to keep Sam… Company while you were gone," Chase responded nervously. "Uh… I'm going to help Ryder with the prototype." He quickly ran off, leaving Marshall a little confused.
"...What was that about?"
"It's a bit of a sensitive topic he doesn't like to talk about," Sam noted. "Follow me real quick." The two walked into the kitchen, so the others wouldn't hear them. "When Chase was young, he was left on his own on the city street. It's no place for a pup like him."
Marshall was shocked when he heard this. "You mean…. He was just left on his own?" he asked.
"Yes. I don't understand what kind of cruel people could do that to a puppy."
"Couldn't imagine what I would do if I was Chase. How did you find him?"
"Ryder found Chase one night and even saved him before he could get hit by a truck." Marshall was shocked hearing that detail. "Neither of them were injured, thank goodness, and we took Chase home with us. Since then, he's been scared about going back into the city."
Marshall thought about this for a moment and didn't know what to say about it.
Back with Ryder and Chase, they planned to keep the prototype in the garage until they could take it back to Kendra. Before he placed it away, Ryder looked down at his pup. "You want to test this out?" the boy asked.
"I guess so," Chase admitted. Ryder smiled as he attached the prototype to his pup's back with the velcro. They brought it outside and Ryder loaded up a few tennis balls.
"Let's see if we can try and aim it." Chase nodded as he tried aiming the launcher at the tree. Ryder pressed the button on the remote a few times, only for each ball to miss the tree.
"Darn. Maybe this thing needs more work."
"How about I try?" Ryder helped Chase reload the launcher and per the pup's instructions, he placed the remote on the ground so Chase could use it. The pup aimed and stepped on the button, this time he managed to hit the tree once.
Ryder helped him fetch the balls so Chase could try again. "Let's try and see if you can hit it with all three balls." The German shepherd smiled as he tried again and again. He usually hit the tree at least once, sometimes twice, but the third ball would always miss.
Eventually, one of the tennis balls missed and rolled across the street. Chase and Ryder checked to make sure it was safe before they went to go get it, when a purple car zoomed past in front of them, making Chase cling to his owner's leg in fright.
"…Are you okay, Chase?" Ryder asked. The pup shook a little bit as a memory flashed before his eyes. Ryder looked to see the ball had rolled to the edge of the street, meaning a vehicle likely wouldn't hit it. "Maybe we should go back inside."
"Y…. Yeah," agreed Chase. He sniffed before he let out a sneeze. He shrugged this off as he was ready to get away from the street.
After walking inside, Ryder explained what happened to his mother. "Ugh, road hogs," Samantha groaned. "I don't understand how they think driving like that is safe."
"What's weird is that I thought I smelt kittens from that car," Chase noted. "Like that car was filled with them." He just barely managed to finish his sentence before he let out a sneeze.
"Are you okay?" Marshall asked, concerned about the sneezing.
"It's just allergies." Chase rubbed his nose as Ryder helped take off the proto-pack.
"In some good news, the prototypes are working great," Ryder said. "Chase had some pretty good aim. We just need to figure out how to work for him without the need for the remote."
"What did Kendra say about a remote in the brain?" Marshall asked.
"What?" Sam and Chase questioned.
"She said that Neural-Link Technology could be used to control the pup-packs," Ryder explained. "I'm not too sure about it."
"Me neither. The risks and the surgeries, all just so dogs can use gadgets that were built for them," Sam noted. "It doesn't sound worth the risks."
"Agreed," added both pups.
"Also I gave Kendra a call. She said she had other things to work on, so you're free to work on the prototype all you want since you did design it."
"Alright then. I'll leave it in the garage until Dad gets home. Hopefully, we'll be able to work out how the pups will control these." Ryder walked away as he began to brainstorm ways to expand on the pup packs.
Later that evening, Owen returned home and was brought up to speed about the prototype that they accidentally brought home. He got a good look at the pup-pack, which was far from finished with exposed parts like the circuit board and sharp edges. "It needs a bit of work," he commented.
"I know," Ryder admitted. "Kendra gave me a head start, but these pup-packs have one major flaw. There isn't a reliable way for the pups to control them."
"It shouldn't be that complicated to require neural links in their brains. Maybe something that can be around their collars?"
"Maybe. Don't see how that would work."
"How about we start with something we can figure out; that ATV."
"Oh yeah. I was hoping we could look at that. How bad of a condition do you think it's in?"
"The worse part might be the engine. I took a look at the other parts of it and they aren't that bad." The father and son started walking to the garage to check the ATV as Chase and Marshall walked into the living room to some TV, where they saw a new report which seemed strange to them.
"In other news, strange miniature vehicle witnesses claim to be pilots by kittens of all things, has come to a screeching halt after crashing in a pond." The news showed the crashed vehicle that had a kitten on site.
What caught Chase's eye about the vehicle was the purple color. It seemed familiar to him. "Wait, is that the car that nearly hit me?" he questioned.
"I don't know," Marshall admitted, "But that color kind of looks like the one on the truck that made waves."
"Really? You think they could be from the same builder?"
"Yeah. I think the truck was from that Humdinger guy."
"Then why would that car have kittens driving it?"
"No clue. Sure hope those vehicles don't hurt anybody." The pups decided to change the channel to something showing a pit bull dressed up in a superhero costume. "Ooh, Apollo the Super Pup!"
"Have you heard of this show?"
"Oh yeah. I sometimes watch it with Alex while I'm at the Porter Cafe. Do you watch it?"
"A few times. It's not as fun to watch without Ryder though." The two watched Apollo, enjoying it together.
They weren't the only ones watching it. At the construction site, Rubble was in the break room, sitting on the sofa, watching Apollo on a tablet. One of the workers walked inside to check on him. "How are you doing Rubble?" the worker asked.
"Just fine," the bulldog replied. "This is the best time I've had watching Apollo."
"Welp, hope you enjoy it. Me and the boys are heading home for the night. You don't stay up too late, okay."
"Okay." The worker gave a thumbs up and switched off the lights, while also cracking the door open so Rubble could get out if he wanted to. Rubble got comfy as he enjoyed more of Apollo.
As he slowly started getting tired, Rubble thought he heard something outside. He could hear a bit of arguing that sounded like a bunch of kids arguing with a man. The bulldog stayed awake so he could look through a window and see some kittens messing around with a top hat.
"Kitties, give me back my hat this instant!" ordered a man. The kittens just rolled their eyes and started rolling the hat back to where the man was. Concerned there was a thief, Rubble went to investigate and could see a blonde man in a purple suit placing his top hat back on.
"Is this an inspector?" Rubble questioned. He was about to approach them when one of the kittens jumped onto the top of a big pipe that wasn't secure. It started rolling away before the kitten could jump off. Rubble wouldn't be so lucky, as he would have to run in order not to end up as a pancake pup.
He eventually ran up to a bulldozer, jumping up to safety before he could get crushed. However, the force of the pipe hitting the dozer, caused the door to slip open. Afraid of what other kinds of damage could be done by the kittens. "Maybe I'll just wait in here tonight." He closed the door keep himself safe and wait out the night. Still, he was wondering what the man was doing at the construction site.
The next morning, downtown, Skye, and Rocky were just waking up. They both made their way down the fire exit with the cockapoo having a much easier time than the mixed breed. "Do you seriously go down this way all the time?" Rocky questioned.
"Of course," Skye responded. "How else could I get down?" The two pups were carried onto the street level, with one having an easier time than the other. Skye was about to search around for food as she looked to where the University would be. "Say, you remember Chase and Marshall from yesterday?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Do you think they have more of those gadgets?"
"I don't know. There could be." Rocky watched as the cockapoo yipped and sprinted toward the university. Rocky, feeling this wouldn't end well, followed her to see what else the university would have.
Inside, they could see several people walking, either getting to their classes or working on some projects. Skye slipped around people's feet fairly easily, while Rocky had a hard time not being a tripping hazard. The two escaped into another room where they found something odd.
There looked to be some kind of blocky object sitting. The blocky object looked to have some kind of seat on top of it, along with four wheels around each corner. "What's that?" Skye questioned.
"It kind of looks like a car," Rocky noted. "One that looks like a cube."
"Do you think it works?" The pups examined the cuboid car with the cockapoo jumping onto the seat. "Shouldn't there be a steering wheel?"
"Usually. I don't think these wheels are attached to the block." Rocky managed to just push one of the wheels and it rolled along until it hit a wall.
"Why would someone design this?"
"I have no idea. It looks more like a statue to me. We should probably get out of here before someone sends us to the pound." Skye agreed with Rocky and quickly started making their way out of the building before Skye noticed something behind the door.
"What's that?" she questioned. She squeezed past the open door, making it start closing. Rocky quickly ran into the way to keep it open just as Skye pulled out a yarn ball. "Wonder why they would have this in here?"
"Who cares," Rocky groaned, he pushed the door open again and looked towards the cockapoo. "Let's get out of here before we get into trouble." Taking the unknown yarn ball with her, Skye ran out of the university with Rocky, running past Kendra.
"Oh, Skye?" The scientist gasped. "What are you doing here?" Kendra wouldn't get an answer as the pups made it outside just as other people started to notice them. "I should talk to the headmaster about updating security."
The mixed breed and cockapoo made a good distance from the building before they came to a stop. "How about next time we knock?" Rocky suggested.
"Sorry, I thought it would be nice to check in on the people who helped us out."
"I get that, but…. Why was there a yarn ball in that room?"
"That's what I would like to know. Would it possibly be something they would use to help build stuff?"
"Not likely. This looks more like the yarn that is used for making a sweater." Rocky sniffed it as he was smelling a few different items. "Man, what was messing with this thing?"
The two pups would be confused a little with the ball as Captain Turbot drove a truck down the street with Zuma riding in the cab. The chocolate lab noticed Rocky and Skye standing on the side of the street.
"Hey, Captain, what awe those pups doing?" Zuma asked.
The captain looked at the pups and then pulled over to see what was going on. "Maybe we ask what you two pups are pondering about?" Capt'n Turbot asked.
Rocky and Skye looked in their direction as Zuma stuck his head out of the window. "What awe you pups doing?"
"Um, we're trying to figure out what's with this yarn ball," Rocky explained. "We just found it hidden in the university over there."
Capt'n Turbot looked over to the said building and was a bit puzzled. "Why were you two in that university?" he asked.
"We were wondering if Ryder, Chase, and Marshall were there," Skye explained.
"You know Wyder?" Zuma asked.
"Yes, we do. Why do you know him?"
"He helped me find my way back to the beach after I got hit by a wave. Capt'n Turbot and I awe going to go find where my board is. Wyder should be close to it."
"Ooh, sure." Skye quickly jumped into the back of the truck as Rocky picked up the yarn ball to take with them.
"Maybe they could help figure out why this ball was here. Once the pups were in the back of the truck, Capt'n Turbot drove off with Zuma giving instructions along the way.
"If we stay close to the shore, we should find my board," Zuma noted. They kept an eye out for the missing kiteboard. Along the way, they came across Samantha going for a walk with Chase and Marshall.
The pups all saw each other as Capt'n Turbot brought his truck to a stop. The pups jumped out and ran over to Marshall. "Hey, guys, what's up?" Marshall said.
"Not too much," Skye responded. "We were wondering if you were able to help with something we found." Rocky then showed them the yarn ball they found at the university.
Chase gave it a sniff and quickly felt his nose twitch. "I don't know why Kendra or any of the scientists would…. Would… Ah. Aah! ACHOO!" He let out a big sneeze, making the pups jump back.
"Are you okay?" Rocky asked.
"I'm fine," Chase sniffed. "I think it might just be allergies."
"But aren't you allergic to cats and feathers?" Marshall asked.
"That's true," Samantha stated, "Maybe a cat was playing with this ball before it got lost."
"Still doesn't explain why it was there with the block car," Rocky noted.
"Block car?" Zuma asked.
"There was some kind of block with car parts attached to it. Or mostly attached."
"Oh, I think Kendra told me something about that. She said something about making compatible cars. Makes them much more convenient for saving space."
"Well the one we found was just a cube," Rocky said. "I don't think it even had a motor."
"Kendra did say they were going through different ideas. I think even Ryder's trying some ideas himself with the pups in mind?"
"Yeah, he thought about it being another piece of technology we pups could use," Chase noted.
"Say what?" Zuma asked.
"Yeah, we've already a pup pack that can launch tennis balls."
"And I've been trying to work on a way to help keep them on without the velcro strap," Sam added. "Still need to finish that vest."
"I kind of want to see it," Skye commented.
"I'm still twying to find my kiteboard," Zuma noted.
"We can swing by to pick you pups up short after we pick up the kiteboard," Capt'n Turbot informed.
"I think I remember where the house is," Skye said. "I'll go with you guys and then I'll help guide you back to the house."
"Sounds good to me," Chase commented. With that being said, Skye continued with Zuma and Capt'n Turbot to find the kiteboard while Rocky left with Sam, Chase, and Marshall back to their house.
At the house, Ryder and Owen were in the garage working on the ATV, which required a lot of attention. "Man, can't believe the engine is in such a bad state," Ryder commented.
"We might need to replace it," Owen suggested. "Not unless we can find replacements for these parts." He took a look at the engine fan, seeing that it looked like it was missing a blade. Not to mention the other ones were rusty.
Ryder pulled himself out from under the ATV and saw his mom and the pups were back. "Hi guys," he said, "How was the…". Ryder paused when he noticed Rocky. "Oh, aren't you that pup from the university?"
"Yeah, the name's Rocky," the mixed breed noted.
Owen noticed the pup and was perplexed. "You brought home another pup?" he questioned.
"He's only visiting," Sam noted. "He was wanting to check in on us."
"So were Zuma and Skye," Marshall added. "They want to see the pup pack."
"And wanting an answer for a strange yarn ball," Rocky added.
"What yarn ball?" Ryder asked.
"Rocky and Skye said they found it in the room with some car experiments," Chase explained. He rubbed his nose as he added, "It smells like kittens."
"That kind of makes sense."
"Doesn't make sense why they'd have kittens in a university," Owen noted.
"Plus Kendra said they don't allow pets in those areas," Sam added. "Most of the young ones just get in the way. No offense pups."
"None taken," Marshall responded.
"I'm used to it," Rocky shrugged. "So, what were you guys saying about a pup pack?"
"I'll be right back with it," Sam proclaimed. She and Chase walked inside to fetch the pack while Rocky took a look at the ATV.
"What this?"
"An old ATV we're trying to fix," Owen explained. "Ryder gonna be driving it around once we fit it up." Owen paused as he could see some old oil leaking out. "If we can get this thing fixed."
"Kind of feels like we're going to need a new engine for it," Ryder noted. Rocky walked in front of the vehicle to see if he could get a look at the problem. There were a couple of problems that needed to be, a few hoses for the fluids were leaking, which explained the oil. There was also the fan of course and it looked like one of the fluid caps was missing.
"I think I could keep an eye out for some spare parts," the mixed breed proclaimed.
"That's kind of you to offer," Ryder responded, "But I don't see that likely happening."
"You may say that, but I found a lot of useful scrap for my fort. Before it was destroyed of course."
The attention quickly went back to Chase and Sam, who had returned with the pup now wearing a blue vest. The vest had some Velcro sewn to it to give the pup pack something to attach to.
Rocky looked at the contraption and was impressed. "How does this thing work?" he asked.
"Let me show you." Chase stepped out of the garage and barked to activate the canon. He aimed it at a tree, managing to hit it with every ball loaded into the canon. He and Marshall walked over to get the tennis balls as Rocky was curious about the pup pack.
"So what else can that do?" the mixed breed asked.
"Um, not too much," Chase admitted, "It's only a prototype after all."
"Right. Maybe some other tools could be added to it, like a robotic arm, or a screwdriver." Ryder heard Rocky's suggestion and took note of it, but there was still the issue of how the pups could control those tools.
A honk of a truck's horn could be heard as Capt'n Turbot arrived with Skye, Zuma, and the missing kiteboard. While the surfboard part was mostly intact, the sail was completely torn apart, much to Zumba's disappointment.
Skye hopped out of the truck and walked over to Chase. "Hi guys," the cockapoo said, "Is that the pup pack?"
"It sure is," Marshal said. He stuck the ball into the canon, which Chase fired at the tree again.
"Cool!"
"It is cool," Rocky said, "Though I feel like we could do more with it."
"Like that robotic arm idea?" Chase asked.
"Yeah, like that."
"Maybe someone could make a jetpack!" Skye proclaimed.
"That would be a bit tricky," Ryder noted before he explained the main issue with the pup packs. The pups were a bit confused with the neural-link technology.
"I don't know about that," Skye admitted.
"It doesn't seem that bad," Rocky noted. "I mean, if that chip doesn't do any kind of damage, I'll put one in my head."
"It sounds pretty dangerous," Marshall commented.
"I have too many questions to ask to say it's worth it," Chase said. "Sam, what do you think?"
The mother looked a bit surprised when her name was called. "I'm sorry, what were you saying?" Sam asked.
"We were talking about how the pups would control the pup packs aside from voice activation," Ryder explained. He was confused by what his mom was looking at until he saw Zuma looking glumly at what remained of his kiteboard.
"Don't look so down," Capt'n Turbot proclaimed, "We'll soon see up a new sail swiftly."
"But will we make the sail with?" Zuma questioned. Ryder could tell the chocolate lab was upset and walked over to see if he could help.
"Is that what the dump truck did after the wave?" Ryder asked.
"Yeah," Zuma sighed. Rocky remembered the dump truck also destroyed his shelter. He walked over to Zuma to see if he could be of any assistance.
"I think this is an easy fix," Rocky proclaimed, "All we need is some thread and bits of cloth."
"Whewe do we get that much cloth?"
"I can dig around for some stuff or maybe…" Rocky glanced toward Samantha before saying, "If you wouldn't happen to have any kind of clothes."
"I think we have some old clothes that have worn out," Sam noted. "Kind of forgotten about them until now. I'll try and find it and some sewing equipment." Sam walked inside as Zuma brought his kiteboard out of the truck to try and fix it.
"Rocky, are you sure cloth will be able to fix this?" Ryder asked.
"Every item I use is something I recycle," Rocky noted. "I just need a bit of help with work that needs thumbs and Zumba's kiteboard will be as good as new." Sam came back with some old cloth and her sewing kit so she could help fix the kite.
Meanwhile, Rubble was explaining to the construction workers what he had seen last night. Whoever he saw had caused a bit of a mess around the site. Building materials were scattered everywhere.
"So a man and his kittens did this?" one of the workers asked.
"That's what I saw," Rubble confirmed. "I don't know why they were here."
"Right, we'll have the authorities called and figure out who they are."
"So then what do I do?"
"You just try and stay out of trouble."
"I can help with cleaning up." Rubble looked where a brick had been thrown around. He picked it up in his mouth and started carrying it where they were meant to be.
Rubble was pretty small compared to the workers, so one brick at a time was about as much as he could carry. Despite this, Rubble did what he could to help. They had also found bits of random items scattered around the area. Most of them appeared to be toys, including a couple of skateboards, and they all had purple on them as their main colors.
The young bulldog took an interest in the skateboards. After cleaning up a couple of bricks, he looked at one of the skateboards and thought it could be fun to try it out. He hopped onto the board and started rolling around on it. He was a bit slow at first, but he eventually started picking up more speed.
The site was much clearer now, but Rubble still had to weave around most of the workers. One of them eventually stopped the pup so he could talk to him. "Look, Rubble, I know you're probably having fun," the worker said, "But maybe you should find a place that isn't so busy."
"Oh, okay."
Seeing that the bulldog was a little disappointed, the worker got an idea. "Why don't go show your friends what you got."
"Okay, sure!" Rubble quickly skated off to where Ryder lived, howling with excitement.
Back at Ryder's, Sam had helped Rocky sew a new sail together. It was looking better than the mother was expecting. "See, I told you it would work," Rocky stated.
"Huh, well, I've been wrong before," Sam commented. With their work finished, they pulled the board up to show the finished product. "How does it look, Zuma?"
"Looks good," the chocolate lab commented, "But I have to get it on the watew fow it to wowk."
"Well, if you got some scrap or other bits of junk around, I'll help make it useful," Rocky proclaimed.
"Well, thank you for the help Rocky," Capt'n Turbot said, "Now, I think we should get the pups back to…" He paused as they heard a howl, which didn't come from any of the pups. Down the street so came Rubble riding on his new skateboard. It was pretty impressive until Rubble nearly crashed into the wall if it wasn't for Ryder grabbing him.
The board kept rolling and rammed into the wall. "Oh, I guess I probably should've tried practicing first," Rubble noted.
"Probably a good idea," Ryder commented. He placed the pup down before Chase pushed the board back to him.
"Where did you find a skateboard, Rubble?" Chase asked.
"There were tons of them at the construction site," the bulldog explained. "They just showed up overnight after a man and his kittens."
"Kittens?" the pups questioned.
"Yeah, it was weird. They were playing around with his top hat."
"A top hat?" Chase questioned. "Was the hat purple?"
"I'm not too sure. It was kind of dark. Plus, I kind of ran once one of the pipes rolled loose."
"That doesn't sound too bad," Marshall commented.
"Oh really? These pipes were massive! I had to jump on a bulldozer just to get to safety."
"That sounds pretty bad," Ryder commented, "But that doesn't quite explain the skateboard."
"There were other kinds of toys there too. It's just the skateboard I liked the most. I wish they had some kind of dog toys there."
"That's… Interesting," Chase commented. He looked to be in deep thought as Rubble jumped back onto his skateboard and practiced rolling around. "Hey, Skye, did you say a man in a top hat tried to control an eagle?"
"You mean the Eagle that chased me?" Skye questioned. "Why do you mention that?"
"He sounds like the guy that Rubble described."
"But why would he be selling skateboards?" Marshall asked.
"Maybe he's trying to bribe people into getting them to vote for him."
"That doesn't sound legal," Owen noted.
"How does he expect to get away with that?" Ryder asked.
"A lot of people assume they're too important to obey the rules I guess."
"Do you think anybody else knows about this?" Chase asked.
"He's going to be found out eventually," Sam commented.
"Hope he does," Skye muttered. She was already done with the conversation and quickly hopped back into the truck.
"Yeah, the rest of us should get going too," Zuma said. Capt'n Turbot helped him with his repaired kiteboard back into the truck with Rocky hopping on board.
"Thanks for the chat, guys," Rocky said. "I think I'll try to ask someone if they can help with the pup packs."
"If you do, could you take this one back?" Ryder asked. "We kind of borrowed it by accident."
"Sure thing." Ryder handed the pup pack to Rocky. "Can I take the best too?"
"It was made to fit Chase," Sam noted, "But it does make the suit easier to use. I can always make another one." With that, they took the vest and pup-pack off of Chase and handed it to Rocky.
"Sure hope that college is okay with dogs," Rocky muttered.
"You'll be fine. You just have to make sure they'll let you in first."
"Can I tag along too?" Rubble asked. He rolled his skateboard up to the truck. "I kind of wanna chat with you guys."
"Eh, I guess so," Rocky shrugged. "Jump on." Rubble climbed aboard with Ryder giving him some help getting his skateboard in the truck. With the passengers on board, Capt'n Turbot drove away to take the pups back to their regular locations.
"Shame we had to take the pup pack back," Marshall sighed.
"It was only half finished anyway," Ryder noted. "I think I might check on Kendra after school tomorrow to see if I can help her build the packs. I haven't done that much to help, honestly."
"Give it time, Ryder," Sam reassured. "I'm sure Kendra will be able to give you some help and the right parts you need."
"We just need to figure out what could be used to control the pup-packs."
"We'll figure that out," Chase said.
"I guess you're right." Ryder smiled as he went back to helping his dad work on the ATV and everyone else went back to what they were doing.
Back with the pups, they were all getting to know each other. "So you always spend your time near the water?" Rubble asked Zuma.
"Yeah dude," the chocolate lab confirmed. "I love catching waves."
"You do you," Rocky commented. "I don't see why people or pups like water so much."
"Youw loss. Thanks for helping with my boawd though." Rocky smiled as Skye decided to speak up.
"Riding the wave is cool, but being high in the air is another thing," Skye proclaimed. "I just from rooftop to rooftop and it's a rush."
"Wow, cool dude!" Zuma gasped.
"It is, but it would be cooler to fly." Skye looked at the pup-pack prototype and began thinking about what else it could do. "You think that they could build a jet pack?"
"Beats me," Rocky shrugged. "You want to fly?"
"Oh, it's a dream. I want to try and fly either in a plane or a helicopter. Any way I can be a treat."
"What about ones with robotic arms?" Rubble asked. "We'd have an easier time picking stuff up.
"Yes, that has way more utilities than a jet pack," Rocky commented.
"If we can get robotic awms maybe I could have a scuba suit," Zuma said. "I could help Capt'n Tuwbot with things on Seal Island." The truck soon came to a stop and they could see they were now at the construction site.
"This is my stop," Rubble commented. He tossed out his skateboard and jumped down from the truck, waving goodbye to the rest of the pups. As Capt'n Turbot drove them away as Rocky kept thinking about the pup pack.
He was thinking about helping test out prototypes and thinking about how he would be if he had his pack. "Things would be so much easier," he said to himself. Skye was having similar thoughts of potentially getting a jetpack and flying across the city.
After a short while, they stopped outside of the university, which wasn't looking as busy as it was earlier. "Okay, so is this where you want off?" Capt'n Turbot asked.
"Um, yes this will work," Rocky proclaimed. He and Skye hopped out of the truck, allowing Capt'n Turbot and Zuma to drive home. Skye began walking back to where the fire escape was as Rocky stared at the university.
"Rocky, are you coming?" the cockapoo asked.
"Oh, right. Sorry," the mixed breed responded. He quickly caught up with Skye and the two climbed back up to where the old pigeon coop was sitting.
"You remember that block that we found that was supposed to be some kind of… Prototype?" Skye asked.
"Yes, why do you ask?"
"It was pretty small and it looked like it could fit us."
"Are you saying something about being able to drive a car?"
"Maybe. Ryder's idea for the pup packs would allow us to do more than we normally could."
"Yeah, that's true." Both pups thought about what they could do.
Back with Ryder, he was now sitting on his bed, sketching his book again. This time he was drawing Chase sitting in a boxy-looking car. There were a couple of different-shaped vehicles, some of which were drawn next to a couple of dog houses. They seemed to share a couple of details as if they were the same.
Chase walked into the room and sat down on the bed next to his owner. "What are you drawing?" the pup asked.
"I thought I'd take a look and see what kind of vehicles I could sketch up," Ryder explained. He showed what he had drawn to Chase, who was surprised.
"You think I could drive a car?"
"You did seem to learn quickly how to use the pup pack. Plus Zuma said he was a kite surfer, that takes a good amount of skill."
"That's true. Didn't Rocky also say he used materials to build a fort?"
"Yes. Dogs are a lot smarter than most people give credit for." The two looked and sketched some more as Marshall walked into the room.
"Hey guys, what are…". He ended up tripping over one of Ryder's slippers, tripping and sliding under the bed.
"Are you okay?" Ryder asked.
Marshall poked his head out from the bed. "I'm fine," he noted, "This happens all the time." He crawled and jumped onto the bed. Ryder then showed him the sketches of Chase's car. "Oh, that looks so cool."
"Yeah, I wonder what it would be like to drive it," Chase admitted.
Ryder simply closed his sketchbook and placed it down on a shelf before lying down in bed. "It's getting pretty late pups," he informed, "I think I should get to bed."
"Right," Chase noted. He walked over to where his bed was, walking in a circle a few times, then lying down. Marshall decided to try and get comfy on one end of Ryder's bed.
"So, what will we do tomorrow?" the Dalmatian asked.
"It'll probably be just you, me, and Samantha here," Chase yawned. He lay his head down on his bed as he was already falling asleep.
"I'll try and get home as soon as I can, Marshall," Ryder said. "After that, we could stop by the university to see if we can work on the pup packs." The boy rested his head on his pillow as Marshall thought about getting his pup pack, wondering what it could do.
Chase overheard the part about the university, meaning they would be going back into the city. He sighed as this was the last thing he wanted to happen.
