A deep silence and a dark emptiness dominated the environment. Heavy machinery noises could be heard from a distance, then the sound of a few simple footsteps echoing.
These were followed by a catchy hum.
They seemed to come from someone else who was in the place; although it was not the only thing that was happening.
The bluish glow coming from one of the facility's computers could be clearly seen from the end. Despite the large size of the computer, coupled with the brightness of the monitor itself, this seemed to not be enough to illuminate at least part of the room.
The tall, terrifying figure stops humming at the exact moment the monitor lights up his face.
Half of it was covered by a very formal red military suit with black and yellow lines.
Below its neck were white lines that, depending on one's point of view, even seemed to represent a sinister smile.
A pair of circular blue glasses hides the figure's mysterious eyes from anyone's view.
Its white gloves are crossed behind its back, as it assumes a tall, firm form.
This mysterious person takes a breath before coldly saying...
-"Computer, status report."
[Doctor Ivo Robotnik]

The computer ends up turning on completely by order of the doctor. Other lights would also turn on consecutively in sync with the monitor, making the room a little brighter.
A strange type of diamond-shaped drone, with red lines and completely black, was behind the sinister Doctor Robotnik; You could tell that this one seemed to be in defense mode or something similar. Still, that didn't stop it from being a little creepy.
Getting back to the point, the computer would start projecting things that are meaningless to some people, but very important to Robotnik.
Among all these data, some showed strange multicolored rocks called Chaos Emerald, golden rings, scales of power; even a strange island in the middle of the ocean.
Data and more data kept pouring in in a matter of seconds, it's like it's never going to end.
But come on, all this enriched the doctor's knowledge like never before; although it was only an exaggeration.
You could see it in his face.
You could see his egotistical grin widening by the minute as his hands clasped.
A sadistic plan began to form in the mind of the evil genius.
The doctor exclaims with his plan already devised, a small evil laugh escapes Robotnik's mouth…
-"Tomorrow we will invade Flicky Island, and with that the Chaos Emeralds will be under my control!"
The witty Robotnik says these last words as if he were speaking to a large army behind him; but surprisingly, it was true…
The last thing to be heard in echo would be the malevolent laugh of the calculating tyrant.

In another part of the vast world, where the endless blue ocean dominated the surroundings, a peculiar island stood in the middle. Some would say that it was a simple island that did not stand out much except for its bright colors. They were wrong.
| SOUTH ISLAND

South Island, a piece of land floating in a rich ocean. Many describe it as a peaceful island with an abundance of nature. Others say that it is an island known for its ancient treasures and ruins. Whatever they think of this island, that did not prevent it from being a place that, despite its mysteries, continued to arouse the curiosity of everyone who heard about it. And having said these small details, it will be better to continue with this story. From the horizon, a trail of dust altered the nature of the island, as if a strong air breeze was passing at surprising speeds. No matter what it was, plants, rocks, even trees, everything reacted to the strange movement of the air. Although… was it really just a sudden change in surroundings? Or was it something else? The figure of a running animal could be seen with difficulty in the midst of all the cloud of dust and earth; It could be said that it even looked like a rodent. But you know, the first impression is not always the right one. Was that the origin of this inexplicable anomaly? Probably. Wearing bright red sneakers with white lines, along with a pair of white sports gloves and wearing a Band-Aid on his left side cheek, the swift, bluish figure seemed to stop at nothing, not even obstacles in his path. He would even come across some small animals that were enjoying the peace of the place. The blue-furred rodent would stop abruptly and for no apparent reason. The entire cloud of dust left behind by the animal would momentarily surround the area. After a few seconds, it would disappear and spread through the air.
[Sonic the Hedgehog]

In the blink of an eye, the hedgehog would drop what appeared to be a heavy brown backpack to the ground; the detail is that it was a little bigger than the size of Sonic himself, although that didn't seem to make it difficult for him to move. In front of him, a small rabbit covered its eyes with its own ears, probably even thinking that the blue hedgehog would crash into it at that immense speed witnessed by the animal itself. The thing is, it wasn't like that. Sonic had it all under control. The hedgehog, with a movement of his hands, would ask the bunny to wait a moment, so that he would begin to look in the backpack for something that seemed important, although the important word fell short. Better to say required; That would probably explain the reason for his reckless actions while moving around the island. The rabbit would tilt his head as he watched the hedgehog keep searching and searching in that backpack of his. It wouldn't be long before he received a letter with a small box next to it. The bunny would open his eyes a little more than they were before, he recognized the letter along with the box easily. The hedgehog could now take away one less worry; It seemed that he already had problems in his past doing this before. Though he wouldn't trust himself too much to slow down this time, either. One thing was certain: Sonic had finished his work here and he still had more letters to deliver. Also, his motto was "never stop", so he had to keep his own word. Without much else to say, with a small farewell gesture characteristic of him towards the little animal, the fast hedgehog would leave the area as soon as he had arrived. The only trace that would remain of him to prove he was there, was the dust that was raised the moment he began to run with his astonishing speed. No, wait a second. Did he forget to put on his backpack, or did he…? Forget it, he just came back for that little inconvenience.
The same animals whose quiet moment had previously been interrupted by Sonic's presence were still recovering from that event; Anyway, after a few seconds the same thing would happen again. The difference is that this time the blue hedgehog was heading in another direction. With a very long list in his hands, Sonic was taking a look and crossing out names to know the remaining animals that he needed to deliver letters and other things; And boy, there were still a few left. But that didn't seem to be a problem for Sonic himself, he still had enough time. Besides, who was able to match his spectacular speed? Clearly no one, so the only one with experience in this was him and only him. After a few more deliveries, and leaving his "mark" all over the south of the island, the fast and brilliant hedgehog is officially done with today's job. And the best thing is that he had surpassed his best time, almost… 35 seconds less than the last time, good!
Although… the rest of the island's inhabitants wouldn't say exactly the same…
In any case, it was time to rest. And this hedgehog would not miss it by any means. And believe me when I tell you that Sonic doesn't waste a second of this opportunity. But what kind of rest to put it this way? You will see.
Sonic would go to some bushes that, at first, didn't seem to lead to anything. That was the idea, to make you believe that there was nothing. But actually there was something. Something that seemed to be a secret kept by the blue hedgehog. Sonic turns around several times, three times to be exact, before making sure no one was watching him from behind. Confirming this, the animal was already able to move the "bushes" and enter. Now imagine a race track. One that lacks asphalt and well… everything it would need to be a real racetrack. But wait! I don't think any racetrack had the things this track has: hairpin turns, 360 degree loops… even a weird red springboard! Do you already have an image in mind?
Lights. Ready and working. Let's just avoid the detail that some stopped working a long time ago. Ground. Used but still in perfect condition for this place. Although it could be cleaned up a bit one day. Yeah, someday. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah yeah yeah Obstacles. None for the hedgehog. Well, it looks like Sonic already had everything checked out and ready before the start. There was only one last thing left to do… The eager hedgehog would approach a sign slightly taller than Sonic himself, which was right next to what appeared to be the start line. The sign itself appeared to be off, as it didn't appear to display anything other than a blank screen. Not for much longer. Sonic himself at first would give him a little tap from above; still didn't turn on. The second try would be a little stronger; Now it seems to be working. The sign would now display some sort of speedometer, which only read 0. It was logical. I don't know what the rest would have thought. Now yes. Ready and in a position as if the hedgehog were an athlete, he himself would imagine the countdown to finally start this "little workout" of his. A few moments of silence pass. The afternoon breeze made contact with the animal's ears, causing them to twitch momentarily. The sun on the horizon began to go down as it gave way to an orange sky. A little more and…
As soon as he took the first step, Sonic was already halfway through the first lap (not quite like that though, but you get where I'm going with this). Such was his speed that he even moved trees and palm trees with the wind. The first loop was starting to get closer, the hedgehog could see it clearly. A bright blue line would run through the entire loop and disperse at the end. That first obstacle was nothing for this speedy animal; but this was just beginning.
The first turn was approaching, and this time, oddly enough, Sonic would decide to slow down as he passed through it. Moments later, he picks up speed again. There seemed to be something strange about this. The hedgehog had enough room to cross that curve without having to slow down. Well, it was probably because it was his first turn.
Good. One part already completed. But the blue hedgehog would not rest until he reached the goal, he needed to give more of himself. His legs slowly began to gain more speed as he left dust behind him. Second obstacle now in sight: the jumping test. And no, don't think that Sonic put spikes in the fall; he's not even crazy to do that in the first place. Anyway, the obstacle consisted of three continuous jumps with a very small jump space. Sonic had to calculate well both the area to jump and to land, and thus repeat the same with the next one. Very easy? When you have a speed equal to that of the hedgehog, we discuss it. Here comes the first jump. Sonic would make sure he had the speed commensurate with the limited space he had to proceed to the next jump. His left foot is the first to arrive, so he would exert force on him and he would push off with his right foot. In the process, he would somersault to land on both feet and push off again so as not to lose time or speed in the process. The same would happen in the second and third jump. Although in the third, Sonic would at times almost trip upon landing, losing valuable time on this lap. It doesn't matter, he still had part of the track to make up the time and speed he lost before finishing.
Sonic seemed to be regaining his previous self-recorded speed. Maybe he would make it after all. But that no longer mattered, because not far from where the second and final turn was, that same speed of the spectacular hedgehog would end up slowing down almost exactly the same as it had in the first turn. It's like Sonic has trouble cornering at that speed...
Only the final leg remained. He could do it, Sonic could do it. A little more and he would reach the goal. His heart was beating like never before; This doesn't even compare to his moments when he makes deliveries. The determination in the spiked animal was branded in his eyes like a strong flame.
The blue hedgehog would push himself one last time with the help of the red springboard to cross the end of the track. You could say that he was a speed demon from the first moment he jumped off the springboard and crossed the speedometer with his arms behind him and his legs together forward. The numbers began to change, albeit very slowly.
Sonic would try to stop after experiencing such speed; but he would end up dragging several meters against the ground until he came to a complete stop.
The sign seemed to take longer than necessary to register the hedgehog's true speed. It's either that or the numbers are probably stuck. Yeah, it seems to be the second option, but it doesn't matter. Since Sonic would give it another tap while he caught his breath after that marathon of his. Or rather, "morning exercise." Now it seemed to be fixed, again. He really needed to change that thing. Well it will go on the list of things to do; although he will end up forgetting as usual.
8 7 6
Only those three numbers would register the sign.
Perhaps it would not be a big thing or even all this would not be understood at first. But for Sonic, along with the adrenaline and the surprise of the moment, he couldn't help but get excited when reading those three simple numbers. Such was the case, that sometimes he even jumped for joy. But what exactly was this all about?
Let's see. The last numbers recorded before this time were about… 789. 789 kilometers per hour had been the last speed that Sonic had managed to reach that time. Therefore, for a logical and very obvious side, the blue hedgehog managed to surpass himself in speed by reaching a speed greater than what he was able to reach weeks ago. Now don't ask me how this works, I'm not a biologist.
Okay, enough math and theory. Better focus on what you come to read.
And with the now excited hedgehog celebrating his new achievement, he himself would momentarily extend his left arm towards the already night sky while giving one last leap of joy.
…Wait. Something... wasn't right.
Suddenly, all the lights in the place, along with the speedometer, would start to act in a somewhat… strange way. They would start turning on and off by themselves, even making strange noises. In short, they would do what they should never do. Even one of the lights on the race track would explode from being turned on more than it should. This would obviously alert the now confused hedgehog. Who, from one second to the next, would go from a state of celebration and excitement to one of not knowing what was going on here. Logical. And believe me when I tell you that he had experienced things like this for a while, but not at this level of anomaly.
It's… over.
It seems that everything is back to normal…
But… what was all that? Not even the hedgehog had an answer for that…
A few hours had passed after the anomalous episode at the racetrack.
And although it was still early evening and the stars were the only thing that stood out in the open night sky, various animals from the island would gather under an old log as a point of conversation. To talk about what exactly? Quite possibly from a certain blue hedgehog. I mean, just seeing a billboard with a not-so-hand-drawn drawing of Sonic's head with a red cross I think gave you an idea of what was going on here.
It seemed that most of the animals had shown up that night. A little pig, presumably responsible for bringing everyone together, would climb onto a small wooden podium to start the meeting. He would begin to explain in unconventional wood carvings why he had held a meeting in the middle of the night and to make sure there were no hedgehogs present: to kick Sonic off South Island.
Now you may be wondering: really? After everything that the hedgehog did with all that stuff about deliveries? Well, don't ask me. Even a very familiar bunny seen by Sonic earlier was asking the same questions among all the animals. Well, now, let him continue with what he had to say.
The little pig had his reasons for doing this with the destructive hedgehog; I don't think he was the only one to think the same. Here his points: One. Destruction of property. Two. Reckless behaviour. Three. Disturbances on the island. Four. Destruction of prop- Alright, that already seemed more personal than public opinion. And yes, all this was also carved in wood. Even another animal, a little bird to be more specific, would also blame the hedgehog for the earthquakes that were occurring on the island in recent days. With all these accusations against him, it was clear that almost all the animals in the place wanted Sonic to leave South Island; even though some other animals present disagreed with this for the reasons mentioned above. With everyone decided what to do, the only thing left was to execute the plan. And when exactly? Tomorrow morning. The blue hedgehog won't be expecting any of this, that's for sure.
The first traces of the morning began to be present. The sun was still rising above the horizon, and a faint orange was beginning to lighten the sky.
Sonic was just waking up after that busy but rewarding day of his; Although half of his body woke up, the other half was still asleep. He really needed something to wake up fully, and adjust his gloves… and also clean himself… No seriously, when was the last time he cleaned himself up?
But first things first: prepare before the start of the daily delivery routine. Noted. Second. Cleaning shoes after the small "incident" with the fire. Noted. Third. Leaving home and the first thing is to see an angrycrow against you. Chec- No, wait what?
Well, to the surprise of the blue hedgehog, it would be like that. And I am not lying when I say that all the animals of the island were present, if not almost, in the same place. Boy, nothing good is going to happen here, believe me.
Sonic at first, still not knowing what all this was about, would receive the public with his typical greeting. Oh if it had only been to see him and not for the other…
In the blink of an eye, Sonic's face would be dyed red from a tomato being thrown at him; Even he didn't expect this to come, you could see it in his red face. After trying to clean the remains of tomato from his face, the blue hedgehog would make a gesture of doubt as to why this action was taken towards him. And most importantly, why were they all here? Were they having a surprise party or what? It would have been easier if it was just a party…
Most of the animals took out some posters when they saw the doubts of the rodent. Some of these had a red cross on Sonic's face, others with a drawing of him being kicked off the island. Ohh, now it makes sense for the speedy hedgehog. For a moment he thought it was really a party… No wait.
The already upset animals, who wanted to get down to business, would begin to slowly approach Sonic so that he would leave South Island once and for all, and thus hope that peace would reign on the island again. The hedgehog himself would try to calm them down at first as he backed away and the crowd moved towards him. He even managed to dodge a rock aimed at his head in time. First tomatoes, now this. Wow, it won't be easy to get them to calm down. I mean, Sonic could use his incredible ability and teach these ungrateful animals a lesson. But who am I kidding, we all know that wasn't his style.
Meanwhile, in a remote area of the island where this little "unforeseen" did not happen, and the only thing that remained was the immense blue sea that surrounded the view, the same rabbit that Sonic had seen yesterday and had given him the letter, looked his reflection in the water somewhat discouraged. Why of this? Probably because of the situation that was happening, and maybe knowing how all of this would turn out.
Could they not see what Sonic was doing? Yes, he can be reckless and somewhat "destructive" at times, but here's another question: was there anyone else on the island who could do what Sonic does with his speed? He would bet not. At least they had to be thankful that the hedgehog didn't use his speed with bad intentions, or even to misuse it.
…And now the bunny was thinking to himself. Great…
Oh well, maybe he'll do something else until things calm down. Or he'll probably stay where he was until…
…Now wait a second. Was that a ship in the distance or something?
The rabbit was able to confirm that a strange object was floating on the horizon. A… black object and… of an unusual shape. Sure it was really a ship?
And…now it was getting closer. Approaching very quickly.
Was this the time to start worrying, or at least start doubting that something was wrong? Nothing bad even happened, why do you think that?
The mysterious object, getting closer and closer to the island, would gradually reveal its appearance in more detail. It had the strange shape of a diamond, with red lines running across its black body. In the center it seemed to have an expressionless triangular eye illuminated by a bright red light. In turn, as if the situation was not already strange enough for the animal, the mysterious object was making a noise very similar to a turbine. He could even tell that it looked like some kind of drone or something similar from the way it was flying. Doesn't it look like something similar?
In any case, the simple fact of being face to face with that thing, would not prevent the bunny from feeling both curiosity and surprise and distrust towards the black object. Although…it doesn't seem to be doing much more than levitating in place…
At this, the bunny would do nothing more than tilt his head in a gesture of doubt. What was this thing in the first place? And second, should he do something or…? The animal would begin to analyze the strange drone as he walked around it. Well, one thing was certain for the rabbit: it was not another animal like it. If so, why was that thing here? There was not always an answer for everything. The only thing he could confirm is that the drone itself seemed… disabled? I mean, yeah, it somehow made it to the island showing that it was activated at the time. But what now? All it did was stand there, not even seeming to react to the rabbit's movements. Was it damaged? Maybe, maybe not.
Hey, what if he touches it? Maybe it would react to contact, right? Wait. Don't look at me, I just narrate the thoughts. Okay, the rabbit would think this for a few moments, maybe too long. But the idea was still the same. Now what happens next if something bad happens will be the responsibility of the animal. Although come on, why the sudden paranoia? It's not like it does much to touch it either. Also, it's just to check if that thing was working. What can go wro-
Sonic was slowly starting to run out of space to get away from the angry crowd. Even if he tried, it seemed impossible to convince them to calm down. Finally, the blue hedgehog would feel with his back quills that there was no more room to move or even move further back. Now this was a serious problem. A small blue bird among all the animals in the crowd began to peck incessantly at the head of the swift rodent. Let's see, are we sure this was just to get Sonic kicked off the island or was it for something else? Because from the point of view of this it made it seem like something-
But a loud and huge explosion in the distance would make everyone turn their attention from the hedgehog to this inexplicable event.
Another explosion would be followed seconds later, and then another… What the hell was going on?
The animals were perplexed by such a scenario. They didn't know how to react, do or even think about it. But this did not seem to be the only thing; Even this was not even the beginning. And oh please don't blame Sonic this time. It would already be a joke.
For some reason, the explosions seemed to be getting closer to where everyone was present. This was beginning to be worrying for all the animals. It is as if something or someone is guiding these explosions to their location.
Wait. Wasn't that the rabbit we talked about a while ago? And oh yeah. He was being chased by the same strange drone…which is also shooting missiles… Well, a mystery already solved!
The bunny in its desperate search to try to survive would make a sharp turn to the right to avoid one of the many missiles that the drone fired according to its programming; causing the same missile to go directly towards the rest of the animals that were next to Sonic.
Now I want an explanation. First of all, what exactly did the rabbit do to make the drone activate this killer mode? What, that thing now has a consciousness of its own?
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Going back to what I was saying, most animals would move to the side to avoid the deadly missile. But, not all would run with the same luck. Sonic would end up in the middle of the missile's target, causing it to violently explode not far from the hedgehog's position, resulting in the latter being thrown into some off-site palm trees. And let's say that the impact against these would not be "soft" at all.
The blue hedgehog seemed to be temporarily out of the game.
Chaos and destruction began to be present. The animals on the island ran in opposite directions hoping not to get hurt in the process. Even two animals in their desperation to escape ended up crashing into each other. Clearly, the Inhabitants of South Island had never been through anything like this before.
The dangerous drone for its part continued to do its thing without even thinking about stopping. After all, it was a machine. Besides, who could stand up to it if all they did was run for help that would never co-
A rock would suddenly hit the deadly machine on the left side. I think there were not enough words to say that the same drone would slowly turn towards the place from where that same rock was thrown.
Oh the irony. It was the same little pig that had started all this of being against Sonic. The difference is that this time he was doing something for good, or at least he tried to.
The drone would approach slowly and menacingly in the direction of the pig. Its red, expressionless eye focused on the useless animal. Although it was a simple machine and showed no emotions, this time it seemed to have taken that action personally. And believe me, the little pig also felt that maybe he would end up six feet under the ground.
The machine would open what appeared to be its plates that served as its structure, revealing a terrifying mechanical skeleton within. Inside the plates were small missiles ready to be fired at the helpless animal. No matter what he did, no matter his pleas, the little pig had no other options available to him; there wasn't even any sign of Sonic to help. And without wasting any more valuable time, the drone would fire several missiles at the animal with the intention of leaving no trace of him. Although, the destruction would remain.
Smoke and dust would rise when the missiles made contact with the ground. You could barely see anything, but not enough until all the dust dispersed.
The machine would remain immobile for several moments and with its expressionless eye looking at the area where the missiles were fired, waiting for the target to be "neutralized". Come on, the little pig couldn't do much about it either, just wait for his… Wait. There was nothing? Impossible, no one could survive…
Oh. Great. It seems that there was still a rodent to eliminate…
The little pig covered his eyes waiting for his end. … Umm… …Don't you think this was taking too long?
The little pig would open his right eye when he noticed that something strange was happening in all this; Oh please, as if the current situation wasn't weirder than it already was. But you get my point.
The first thing he would see would be Sonic himself leaving him in a safe place out of all this madness. So he had been the one who had saved the little pig… what speed Well, at least now the animal will have one more day to live and reconsider the things he said about the speedy hedgehog.
But now there was no time for that. The important thing right now was to make sure that thing ended up in the dump where it belonged.
The machine, seeing that the target had missed, would reopen its plates in a terrifying way in front of the hedgehog. Ready to neutralize him like the rest of the pathetic inhabitants of this island. What this cold-hearted can of wires and metal didn't know is that Sonic wasn't your typical blue hedgehog you'd find anywhere. Of course not. He was even better than you expected. But enough talk. It was show time.
The deadly drone would fire several missiles in the direction of the elusive rodent. I would say that in total there were about 10 or 11 missiles fired, I think. But clearly that thing wanted to make sure that the blue ball didn't even come out of this attack unscathed.
With a strong determination marked in his eyes, the spectacular hedgehog would dodge the first missile simply by moving to the left. Wow, that was close.
But this hadn't even started. Here came the second and third missile. As he did with the first, Sonic would go to the right this time, the second missile would hit behind him. To the center, third missile out. Damn, even using his speed, those things were…
Attention! The fourth missile would pass just inches above the bold hedgehog. I would even say that one of the quills on his head would have touched the front of the weapon. Let's admit that if it hadn't been for his quick reaction, that slight distraction of his almost cost him his life.
Did I say four? Well, here are three more missiles in case they seemed few. Sonic would brake abruptly to jump on the fifth missile making use of his amazing ability. After that, he would cause the other two missiles to collide with each other, causing a huge explosion inches from him. The same force of the explosion would cause the blue hedgehog to hit the grass. Oh great, there goes his shiny gloves and in perfect condition. Although that was the least of it at the moment. Certainly, Sonic needed to rest for a moment, even if it was for a few minutes. But there was no time for that, not now. It was clear that this was too much for him, he had never been through a situation similar to this before. How could he know that this would happen now?
Another missile! The animal would quickly dodge to the side before the eighth missile violently exploded on the ground. I told you. The hedgehog could do it, just one more effort. Just… one last effort… Seriously? Don't tell me he was too slow for this.
That word… Too slow. Too… slow It's as if something snapped inside him at the moment of thinking about it…
Too slow?! Those two words stuck in the head of the now surprised hedgehog. Oh my friend… Now the speed demon will show this junk how "slow" he can be!
Only three missiles remained ahead of the hedgehog target. Oh please be serious already. With the ninth missile in sight, Sonic would do nothing more than cartwheel on the spot and use his hands to push the missile down. Propelled by the force of the missile itself, the cunning hedgehog would use the last two missiles to launch himself at that damned drone.
Smart hedgehog. But he forgets a simple detail: a machine was still a machine. The drone would make use of its plates to dodge the rodent's attack, hitting and pushing it with the same plates in the process. If what Sonic hadn't learned from this yet, is that a machine like this didn't just attack randomly; First analyzes, then acts.
Sonic would hit the tall grass that was in the place with force. He wouldn't even have time to recover from that blow and that thing would already try to attack him again with his plate. It would have been a great moment if the hedgehog had hit it; I mean, not everyone would manage to dodge missiles like that and counter them at the same time. And when I say that the strength of the machine was greater than that of the rodent, it is because it was so. Well, anyway the hedgehog had already given it his all and little by little he began to run out of strength. What does it matter if this ends here? It wouldn't even make much of a difference without him on the isla-
But even to the surprise of both of them, the drone would be hit with a branch without having foreseen any of this. As a result, the machine released Sonic to analyze who had done that. And the answer would be somewhat atypical.
That same bunny. That same bunny that Sonic had delivered a letter to not many days ago. That same bunny who had encountered this unstoppable machine before and knew nothing of its dubious provenance. That same bunny decided this time to come and save the hedgehog in distress. Coincidence? I don't believe it.
Well, there goes a victim. The lethal machine would aim most of its remaining missiles at a single target; a strange kind of deja vu, isn't it? This time he would make sure to shoot as close as possi-.
But of course Sonic wouldn't let anyone get hurt in this situation. Not when it was just something between this thing and him. The hedgehog climbed on top of the drone before it fired at least two missiles; the same missiles would be fired into the air and not at their primary target. Making sure this flying junk couldn't see what was doing, Sonic would quickly motion for the animal to escape as soon as possible. The rabbit at first thought of staying to help, this time he would not leave the hedgehog alone. But that idea would change from one moment to the next when he saw how the determined hedgehog fought with everything he could so that the animal escaped unharmed and found a safe place. He wasn't a hero, that was clear. But if he had to help someone in need, there were no moments to decide whether to be or not. And that's what the bunny would understand.
The drone would do everything possible to get rid of that annoying hedgehog: hit it against some palm trees, rocks; It would even drag him roughly against the ground. But none of that seemed to stop him. It would finally manage to get it off after circling at high speed over the place.
Stabilizing itself again, the destructive machine would go in the direction where the hedgehog had landed after experiencing such force: a small secluded area with a large number of palm trees and tall grass. The noise it made when flying began to become more and more present; It didn't seem like it was very far from the area. Passing slowly over the tall grass and moving some leaves in contact with its structure, the drone scanned the place in search of finding that useless rodent. Strange, this seemed to take longer than it should. Damn, it can't be that he ran away again!
And while the drone seemed lost to this anomaly, Sonic was hiding behind a small mountain a few inches from the machine. He would even peek out from time to time to see if that thing was still looking for him or not. It would be too easy. Think Sonic. If that thing won't let you attack it head on, how about… sneaking up on it?
And thinking of this idea, the blue hedgehog would look towards the mountain behind him. Perfect, this fast animal now had a plan. Now the real question is, how good was he at climbing?
The drone was starting to lose patience. Something strange if you ask me knowing that it was just that, a drone and nothing more. It would even use its propellers to cut through the tall grass in order to find this pathetic rodent faster; keep trying.
What it really didn't expect, is that that same pathetic rodent was climbing right in front of its nose… or metal in this case, without the thing even knowing. Are you sure it was still a good idea? Well, it hasn't detected him yet, so this is working. The only thing he didn't have to do was look down. Not if it was the first time he'd done this, and it clearly was. The hedgehog stretched out his left hand while at the same time his right hand clung to the stones on the wall. The same would happen with his legs, where his left leg would rise to reach stable support, while his right leg would exert force and stability. Come on, he climbing the mountain. I'm not going to lie when I say that Sonic himself almost fell over a few times because he didn't have anything to stand on, but after all, he managed to continue up. Pushing himself one last time to reach the height he sought, the speedy hedgehog would turn momentarily to check the drone's position. Great, it was where he wanted. Now all that was left was… With one last jump, Sonic would launch himself directly into a palm tree that was conveniently close enough. With this, the blue hedgehog would propel itself with the force of gravity and go in the direction of the deadly machine. I'll be serious now, that thing won't be expecting any of this.
So it was. As soon as Sonic managed to land a direct hit and follow it up with a kick into that flying piece of junk, landing right on top of it, the drone would lose control completely due to this unforeseen event. This would result in the latter rising abruptly to great heights; with Sonic holding on tight to avoid falling off in the process. Well, the hypothesis was correct. Now what was next? Right…
Well, if this bird didn't want to cooperate, its wings will have to be clipped. And after fighting to the end, even nearly crashing into another mountain in the process, Sonic managed to get the drone to lose both propellers against a pair of palm trees near each other; The same propellers that helped the drone to stay in the air and at the same time stabilize it. As a result, the now unstable machine would completely lose stability and the ability to fly.
The already exhausted hedgehog would end up hitting several palm trees until he ended up rolling several meters against the sand.
The drone, on the other hand, would not suffer the same fate. Since it would hit a mountain not far from the beach, seriously damaging itself in the process and its remains landing violently against the sand as well. The only thing that would remain of this now useless machine would be its completely damaged structure; which besides being terribly dented, two of its plates were open and one was missing. While his central eye ended up broken, but still functional.
Meanwhile, with one arm now injured, Sonic would slowly approach the wrecked machine trying not to lose his balance in the process after taking so much punishment in a single day. He… had he really made it? Had he really defeated this unstoppable trash…? Well, it seemed so. Now confirm it? That was yet to be seen. The now confident hedgehog would move a little closer to the drone, then tap on the top of its structure. This to confirm if this thing was still connected after so many hits received or if it was completely out of the game. And at first it seemed so, even Sonic breathed a sigh of relief knowing that this thing wouldn't hurt anyone anymore. But to his surprise…
The battered but still useful machine would do its last trick. The last remaining small missiles would shoot out of the machine, shooting up into the sky and flying past the blue rodent seconds later. Anyone would say that this was solely due to a error in the terribly damaged system of the drone. But my friend, remember what I told you before: this thing analyzes, then acts. It was clear that they were going towards a single objective.
So this is how you wanted things to be? Well, you've got to do better than that, buddy. Sonic, without waiting another second, would open the drone's plates without much effort, leaving them open long enough for the exact moment. What moment will you be wondering? Just wait for it.
Here comes the missiles. Wider… wider…
Now!
The blue hedgehog would let go of the drone at the last second to make way for the deadly missiles to finish the job. These last moments would be accompanied by a great but gratifying explosion, definitively ending the services of that machine. You could say that this thing ended up "eating" its own missiles. But hey, at least they had a great view with spectacular "fireworks"!
A victorious Sonic, but somewhat injured and covered in dust and dirt, would emerge from the tall grass, showing that he was truly done with that thing and would not cause trouble anymore. Now he really needed to clean himself up… The hedgehog himself would make his characteristic gesture of greeting towards the animals, perhaps with this he had compensated for the problems that he brought to the island, right? Well, technically yes. Since all the animals would go to him quickly to thank him, and also to celebrate that Sonic had finished with that deadly machine. Not much celebrating either, since his arm was still a bit sore. But come on, the blue hedgehog had achieved what everyone thought was impossible, and that deserved a great merit. And so it was. Since, at a time when things were calming down, the little pig that Sonic had saved not long ago from certain death would momentarily approach him. At first it seemed that he would not do anything, even the hedgehog himself stared at him seriously for a few moments. But that moment of silence and exchange of glances would be cut short with the little pig offering Sonic a handshake. Although not just any handshake. This was a handshake to show both his regret for what he had said about Sonic and to thank him for what he had done for them. Sonic was no longer seen as reckless or troublesome, not anymore. He was now considered a hero. Hmm, hero. Hero, speed… Hey, that makes a good combination!
Anyway, back to what I was saying. The hedgehog would be shocked for the first few seconds to see this, but all of that would lead to Sonic accepting the handshake in a good way.
Certainly…certainly that day was something…out of the ordinary. Not just for Sonic, but at least things weren't for the worse. A part of the South Island will take time to return to the way it was before, but in the meantime, its inhabitants will know that that day they had someone who saved them.
Although… the doubts about knowing what all that had been, and why on this island, would soon be present in the minds of all the animals. Was there something else behind all this…? Something… something evil and twisted?
| FLICKY ISLAND

Flicky Island. An island slightly smaller than South Island itself. Known for being deserted, but with a highly variable environment, legend has it that it is the home of special birds from another dimension. Birds known as Flickies. No one knows why, but it seems that these same special birds are related to some strange multicolored rocks. Wait a second, haven't we talked about this before about a certain Doctor looking for something similar? I think you were already imagining it.
What had once been an island similar to the one described was now represented only by a completely destroyed and ruined scene as a result of fires and explosions that had occurred earlier. Certainly a part of South Island would have remained like this island if a certain speedy hedgehog had not appeared on the scene at the right time. The fire gradually consumed what little nature was left, while the place was invaded by drones terrifyingly similar to the one Sonic had to face.
A very familiar hum that began to give goosebumps to anyone who heard it nearby was present in the dark and polluted environment. These accompanied by steps that destroyed everything in their path; literally. I think we all knew who he was; Doctor Robotnick. Stepping on a small bright flower that was in the middle, the sadistic doctor would stop a few inches to look at the sad landscape in front of him. He would even take a deep breath as if he enjoyed what he had done. Behind him were two drones from among all the ones he had used for his attack. But that was not all…
Trapped in a strange type of zero gravity field, inside was a small pink and purple bird with ponytails on either side of its head and a lock of hair on its forehead; Presumably it was one of the Flicky that the legend said. Although, the legend no longer seemed to be… "legend", more than anything due to the fact of having one of the mythical birds that is talked about so much literally in front of you.
Robotnik, feigning concern, would tell the trapped bird…
-"Oh… don't worry about your little friend, you helped me get what I was looking for…!"
And as the sadistic doctor spoke these words, he himself would shift his gaze to two bright pink and blue rocks the size of the very palm that held them. But that didn't seem to be enough for Robotnik, not yet. He was looking for more… From a strong stomp that would alert even the pink bird itself, the now annoyed Doctor Robotnik clenched his hands tightly while he exclaimed at the top of his lungs…
-"That's enough, you flying rat! Where is my third Chaos Emerald!?"
But the tense situation would be interrupted after the doctor was notified of something that… could be said to be not in his calculations. Even Robotnik himself would raise an eyebrow at this event. Now what the hell was it about? And why didn't he have yet his…?
Well well well. What do we have here?
It was a recording that seemed to be from a moment already told in this story. A moment involving a blue hedgehog in the scene. It could be said that it was the recording made by the drone that had attacked South Island.
Despite that, the cold and calculating doctor seemed interested in only two things about all of this: All the potential that this island could offer to both him and his army… And the speed of that blue rat captured and recorded by his machine. And you want to know the best of all this? That in addition to achieving what would be his main plan, he also had another island to take advantage of. Sometimes his own genius scared even the doctor himself.
But enough talk. There were things to be done, and Robotnik had a great but horrible idea…
