A Second Chance
Author Notes: Hey everyone ItsOnlyCasual here. Just trying my hand at a little bit of a Self insert-ish story. I figure it'll be an easier first try at a story by writing everything from the way I would see it and react the way I believe I would react. In this world people can't start their journeys till the age of 18 . Not only do I think that makes more sense then sending a bunch of small children out into a world with element wielding monsters, but since this will most likely be a story that could turn mature it's also more appropriate. Now let's get on to the story .
Chapter 1: What the HELL?!
Waking up in what felt like a hospital bed is not how I expected my morning to go . Although with the lack of luck in my day to day life I honestly should've expected it I thought to myself.
Groaning as I sat myself up I rubbed my head . " Man , what the hell hit me" I said out loud . Thinking to myself I realize I don't really remember anything from last night that could've led me to being in this supposed hospital bed.
I remember getting off from my shitty job, driving to the gas station for gas and a couple tall cans and a microwaveable burrito. Now I know you might judge me for that burrito , but hey like all young people who choose to live on their own I underestimated how expensive it truly is so burrito it is.
After driving to my Apartment I remember walking inside and locking my door like I always do . Sitting on the couch and turning the TV on to ESPN for highlights from the day . Then my TV started acting funny , the screen kept distorting and flipping through channels rapidly until it finally turned to static . And a high pitched whine came out of the speakers.
Covering my ears with my hands I turned and noticed a bright light outside my window . Walking towards my window I noticed the light getting brighter and brighter , and then finally when I opened my blinds all I saw was white as my vision was completely enveloped in the light , then all I knew was darkness..
Shooting up further in the bed I was in I shouted " HOLY SHIT, DID I GET TAKEN BY ALIENS?!" Grabbing my head again I groaned , headache right no shouting or sudden movements I thought to myself .
As I was sitting there thinking to myself I heard the door handle start to turn . Quickly laying back down to pretend to be asleep again i balled my hands into fists.
If these Alien scum think they're gonna be able to probe me like some sick bastards they got another thing coming I thought to myself.
Hearing the door open I hear two voices . " I'm telling you Grandpa I heard yelling from the room" a pretty female voice said.
Female voice I thought , so not aliens? Wait no! Surely they've picked up how to trick us humans and have learned our language .
The second voice spoke sounding like an older gentleman " Daisy , look he's still laying there unconscious, I know your curious to find out how he ended up passed out in the pasture but you'll have to wait."
Laying as still as I could I thought to myself , what kind of weird role play is this? Some weird alien farmer shit .
Then I Heard a footsteps and a third voice joining the conversation .
" Young Ms. Daisy is correct Professor Oak , I also heard yelling coming from down the hallway " the 3rd voice said.
Hearing that name my mind froze. I sat up almost like a zombie and opened my eyes to see in front of Me.
No Fucking way I thought to myself . Standing in front of me was an older gentleman with a white lab coat over a red shirt and tan pants and brown Shoes. He had brown eyes and dirty blonde hair with some white growing in , and a round face. Professor Samuel fucking Oak stood in front of me .
Then I looked to his left to the girl and I'm pretty sure if this was an anime my jaw would've hit my lap. Wait this is an anime.. looking down I was relieved to find that my jaw was in fact not in my lap . Thank god for the little things I thought .
Looking back up I took in the sight of Daisy Oak , long Light Brown Hair going down to the middle of her back. Caramel colored eyes , a cute nose , fair skin , and small plump lips. She had a Lab Coat on and under that was wearing what appeared to be a green summer dress of some kind.
I'm almost positive I had to subconsciously force myself not to stare at her. I've completely abandoned the alien theory at this point . What does it say about me that this seems better and more likely then Aliens abducting me after seeing that bright ass light I thought.
Getting a handle back on my emotions I did the only natural thing I looked from Daisy to Professor Oak multiple times completely forgetting the 3rd person who joined.
Then I let out a very "Manly" WHAT THE HELL?! And promptly fell unconscious again..
Waking up again I sat up and looked around the room I was in. Seeing a shelf next to me with a note and a button I decided to pick the note up.
" Young man, your are currently in one of the rooms for emergencies at my Pokémon Lab . Next to this note you'll find a button . When you press that button it will send a notification that you're awake and ready to talk , there's clothes on the chair in the corner for you . -Professor Oak"
putting the note down I looked up at the ceiling . Man , there is just no way this is real right? That note just confirmed everything for me . I'm in the world of Pokémon in pallet town no less . Is Ash here? Is Gary? Surely they're real people if Daisy and Professor oak are I thought to myself.
Looking across the room again I noticed a mirror . Getting up I walked over to the mirror and stood in front of it . Looking back at me was a reflection from a few years ago in my past life. There I stood about 6 foot even . Dark brown Hair , Brown eyes , an angular face with a nice even jawline that I haven't seen in at least 2 years. And a runners body .
I laughed looking at myself. You really don't know what you have in the looks department till it's gone I mused to myself .
Seeing clothes laid out on a chair in the corner I walked over and picked them up.
Hmm not bad I thought to myself looking at the pair of Khaki pants , Black T-shirt , socks and White runners . I put the clothes on and walked over to the button .
Well , no point in putting this off any longer I thought .
Pressing the button I went and sat back on the bed to wait .
While waiting I started to think about what I knew about this world and Pokémon in general. With Daisy being here I can conclude this is most likely more based off the anime then the games, but that's only important for timeline reasons I mused. Battling will be much more fluid and dynamic I thought to myself happily .
Then my mood soured . Battling and thinking of strategies only matters if I can somehow become a trainer I might be to old now. I can always become a researcher I thought.
While I was monologuing to myself internally the door opened .
I heard the creek and raised my head . Looking up I saw Professor Oak and Daisy standing there again.
"So young man . I believe we should start with introductions . I'm Professor Samuel Oak . Lead Pokémon researcher in all of Kanto , and this is my Grand Daughter Daisy." He said while pointing at Daisy .
i turned my eyes to Daisy and she gave me wave a smile and introduced herself . " Hello, I'm Daisy Oak. I'm currently an assistant researcher here at the Lab . I help with all things from helping with research to taking care of the Pokémon at this lab." She finished with that.
I looked at them , and decided that if this was truly a second chance at life and a chance to do something better then be another cog in the corporate Gears then I was gonna grab this chance by the horns.
Jacob Knight , I introduced myself to them.
" Do you know how you ended up behind the Lab in the Pokémon pasture Jacob?" The professor asked
I looked at him and shook my head. " sorry Professor , all I remember before waking up is it being night time . And then me seeing a blinding white light and then waking up in this bed." No need to tell them I could be from a different universe I thought to myself
He grabbed his chin and struck what I thought would be an Anime thinking pose .
" A blinding light ?" He questioned
" yes sir" I said
" Well , the only thing I can think of is you were kidnapped by what I could only guess was a legendary Pokémon. Do you remember where you are from? Maybe we can get you back to where you belong ." He said
I laughed inside my head . Yeah, I don't think that's gonna be possible unless it really was a legendary and they feel like taking me back . I'm not gonna go complaining or looking though . This is a second chance Of a lifetime ! I thought to myself
looking at the professor I gave him my answer . " sorry Professor whenever I try to think about anything other then my name I get a really bad headache " I said while giving my best fake wince and pained face.
The professor hummed and the nodded his head " The legendary must've wiped your mind of any memories other then your name when they took you , tell me Jacob do you know what Pokémon are? " he finished saying
I nodded my head " I remember learning about them somewhere , but I can't think of where and I don't want to make this headache any stronger."
" that's good , you look about Gary, And Ash's age and they're about to start their Pokémon journeys in a few months . Tell me Jacob , would you be interested in starting a journey as a Pokémon trainer ? " the Professor asked.
Daisy looked surprised but ended up smiling at her grandfather and then at me .
I was shocked , no way is he just gonna give my own starter Pokémon and send me on a journey just like that right? He doesn't even know me and he's just gonna trust me? It must be this world and thinking young people are all trust worthy. I thought to myself.
I'm not gonna let this opportunity slip by if he's just gonna hand it to me on a silver platter.
" Are you sure Professor? I don't wanna take someone else's opportunity since I just randomly appeared here." I said
" nonsense young man , as it so happens we actually have an extra starter this League season . With my grandson and his friend also starting out . The numbers work out perfectly . Plus I'm of the belief that everyone needs to at least start their own journeys." The professor said
I smiled , this was going perfectly. But my smile faltered a little bit with what I heard next .
" Of course you just have to pass the trainer Exam to be able to leave . It's nothing to crazy just the basics about being a trainer and Pokémon and how to not die out there . This is also quite the year to start your journey . all the leagues came together and chose to do something never before done. Every region took 3 starters and put them in the computer storage system. Then we at the labs randomly drew a water, grass, and fire type. Nobody knows what starters will come out ." He smiled as he finished looking at me .
Wow , that's actually pretty interesting . That's not something I'd ever see happening in the show or games i thought.
" I'll be able to do it professor , I'll pass that test then start my Journey ." I said .
"That's the spirit Lad." He looked at his watch , then back up to me. " well it's getting late , we will figure out your living situation and get you some books for studying tomorrow. There's only a few months till the exam so make sure you study hard ." The professor said then walked out.
Daisy looked at me then spoke. " if you end up staying around town and need help studying or anything I'm free on the weekends." With that said she smiled and left the room while closing the door.
Oh Gary , I'm gonna have your sister cheering for me at the conference with a big sign and my name on it I laughed as I laid down . Daisy Oak I mused internally . Then went to sleep .
Time Skip: 2 Months
Walking down the path to Professor Oaks lab I smiled and thought back on my 2 months here in Pallet Town.
After spending that night in the lab I was introduced to Gary and Ash, as well as Ash's mom Delia who also happened to work at Oaks Lab.
Gary and Ash looked exactly like their anime selves except taller and older. One of the more interesting things I learned about this world is that 18 is actually the starting age for a journey. Apparently that was a law that was only passed 10 years ago . So I'd be starting my journey at the same time as all the cannon characters I figured.
Delia was a beautiful women at the age of 38 with long Brown hair and brown eyes . She had a great figure at least in my eyes and I'm pretty sure she's caught me checking her out a few times . She never said anything but I swear she smirked at me once .
I laughed , yeah right . wouldn't that just be absolutely hilarious if I had Gary's sister and Ash's mom cheering my name at the conference . Ah , a young man can hope can't he ? I thought to myself
Speaking of Daisy her and my friendship has been growing steadily. Mostly in part to me staying at the lab these last two months and her working there , but I'm not gonna complain about getting to spend all that time with her.
Ending my Internal musing I noticed I was nearing the lab. Today was the day , I passed that stupid test after cramming my head with so much knowledge I thought it was gonna explode, but it was all for this moment.
Today was the day I'd get my Pokémon Partner and start my journey .
Walking into the lab I saw several people in lab coats walking around. Looking around I saw the person I was looking for then started walking again.
Coming up behind her I tapped her on the shoulder and waited for her to turn around with a smile on my face .
When Daisy turned around she smiled and gave me a hug
" How's work going Daisy? Another exciting day ?" I asked with a grin
" You know well enough from staying here nothing exciting is going on today Jacob. Where did you just come from anyways? I was looking for you " Daisy said with smile and a poke to my ribs .
" Sorry Daisy , Ms. Ketchum asked me to make sure Ash was up so I ran over there . To make sure he didn't start off his journey on a bad note ." I laughed out
She nodded " Grandpa is in the back room with the Pokémon . You can head on back there if you're ready to go " she said
nodding I started walking to the back . I passed by Ms Ketchum as she was sitting at her desk . She was wearing her Lab coat with a purple button up shirt , black pants , and high heels . She looked annoyed by something
We locked eyes and then she smiled and I smiled back. She stood up with a little piece of paper in her hand and walked towards me. She held out her hand with the paper once she was in front of me and I grabbed the paper.
Opening it up I saw it was a number . I looked up with what I imagine was a questioning look and she laughed .
"That's my PokeGear number" she said as if that answered every question in my head
" You've been such a good friend to Ash over these past two months. Usually he just spends his days bumping heads with Gary , but he's actually been coming home in good moods lately. It hasn't been like that in a long time." She finished with a smile.
She brought me into a hug and I was shocked to say the least.
She whispered in my ear. " If you ever need and advice , or help , or just want to talk , then call me "'she said into my ear with a sultry purr .
I shivered, I'm pretty sure my brain couldn't comprehend what was happening so I did what any 18 year old would do when faced with a very attractive women giving their number to them .
I took a notebook and pen out of my bag , wrote my PokéGear number down . Ripped it out of my notebook and handed it to her .
Looking at her I said " you know .. just so you have mine too incase you need me to check on ash"
she Smiled, winked then went back to her desk .
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding . What the hell just happened I thought to myself as I continued my walk to the the back room to get my starter .
Coming to the back room I opened the door and saw Professor Oak standing there . He looked up , saw me and smiled .
" Ah, Jacob you're the first one here which means first dibs on your starter. Each poke ball has a sticker of the element of the starter on the ball " he explained to me.
Nodding my head I walked up to the table the poke balls were sitting on and looked at them. Fire, water, and grass I mused.
Luckily for me tho I already knew what element I wanted .
I grabbed the Pokeball with the fire sticker on it and looked at the professor with a smile.
He Nodded his head and then handed me a red device .
" That is your Pokédex Jacob , it has all your info on it including your trainer I.D. Which you'll need at Pokémon centers and gyms as well as several other locations. This Pokédex has been upgraded to the National version so you shouldn't have to guess at any Pokémon you come across, just give them a scan. Your bank account is also linked so that payments are as easy as tapping your Pokédex on the cash register." The Professor said as he handed it to me .
I nodded and grabbed the Pokédex , looking at the poke ball I pressed the release button and watched as the red light started to form into something .
First thing I saw were the ears. Long pointy orange tipped ears on a round head . two points of white fur stuck out from the head on each side . Next was the body as I saw two arms form and two legs with red fur covering the feet. After it was fully formed I saw it's black orange eyes and it's pointy teeth as it opened its mouth and smiled.
Scorbunny! Scor! It said as it hopped in place looking at me .
I stared at it, holy shit this is awesome. I actually have a Pokémon now
Pointing my Pokédex at the Scorbunny I scanned it .
Scorbunny: The Rabbit Pokémon
This Scorbunny is Male and has the Ability Blaze
Scorbunny knows the moves Tackle, Quick Attack, Ember, And the Egg move Hi Jump Kick .
I looked up from the Pokédex and back down to the Scorbunny that was looking at me with interest in its eyes.
putting the Pokédex in my pocket I walked up and crouched in front of the little rabbit Pokémon.
" Hey there little buddy my names Jacob and I'm leaving on my Pokémon Journey today . I'm aiming to be the very best and to do that we gotta beat the very best . I'm looking for the best Pokémon out there to join my team , and I think you have what it takes to be the best. So would you like to come with me and travel to become the best?" I asked with a smile and held my fist out waiting for a fist bump.
Scorbunny looked up at me then shouted a loud Scor! And gave me a fist bump before jumping doing a flip and landing on my shoulder.
I have out a loud laugh and rubbed his head as I stood up . Looking at him I asked " would you like a name?"
He Tilted his head , then nodded out a Yes .
I smiled then started to think of a good name . Then it hit me
how about Vulcan I asked him . He's a god of fire I explained quietly .
he brightened up at that and nodded his head vigorously. I smiled and walked up to the Professor.
" Well Professor I can't thank you enough for the help you've given me , but I think it's time for me to leva wand start my journey " I said
He nodded his head and then spoke " Yes Jacob it is , it's been a great pleasure to have you here these past few months and I know a lot of people will miss having you around. Just know you will always have a home here in Pallet Town." He smiled at me after he finished talking
" Thank you Professor , I really appreciate that. " turning around from him I walked back out the door.
After exiting the back room I started heading to the front door to leave on my journey. But before I could do that I was stopped by a hand on my shoulder .
Turning around I saw Daisy standing there with a smile. I grinned and pulled her into a hug. After letting her go I looked at her and noticed a little bit of pink coloring her face . I grinned at that .
She looked at me one more time before standing on the tips of her toes grabbing my head and giving me a kiss on my cheek . " Good luck and be safe , I put my PokéGear number in yours the last time you were over call me if you need something and I'll be calling you to check up." She said and I smiled and nodded
" You got it Daisy, you take care and call me whenever ."
With that said I walked to the front door took a breath and stepped out the door towards my own Adventure..
