Chapter 1
One year ago, a young prince was burned and banished from the Fire Nation. The only way for him to return was to find and capture the Avatar. However, the Avatar had not been seen in a hundred years. The prince, being very intelligent, saw the quest for what it was, a fool's errand. As he travelled, he saw the damage that his nation had caused and decided to help.
So, to not raise suspicion, officially he was in search for the Avatar. Unofficially, he was helping and escorting (cough*smuggling*cough) refugees, both Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation, to places of safety. When he had heard of them, he had also helped a small fleet of Southern Water Tribe men when they were attack by a fire nation ship.
Many were surprised by the Prince's actions, wondering why the Fire Lord's son would be out here helping people. Until they were told of the fateful war meeting and the Agni Kai that followed. After hearing the story many accepted the Prince and his help.
Our tell begins in the town of Yu Dao, the oldest known fire nation colony and one of the places the prince took refugees. It was the Summer Solstice and the mayor of the town had invited the prince to the celebrations. On the way, the prince bump into the water tribe fleet and asked them to join him. After the anchoring in a nearby fishing town, whom were more then happy to watch the ships, the mixed group travelled to Yu Dao where they stayed for the week
On the first night of the festivities, the town was attacked, not by fire nation but a spirit. They had forgotten that the veil between the mortal and spirit world was weakened during the Solstices and Equinoxes. When asked why it was attacking, the spirit laughed, saying it was one of the spirits of chaos and it found this town too peaceful for it's liking. The young prince, not wanting to see anyone in pain and against his uncle protests, said the spirit could do anything to him if it left the town alone.
Once the spirit confirmed the prince's plead was genuine, it cased its curse. The curse would change the prince into a being of the night, with a craving for blood and the sun would be deadly to him. Within a minute of the curse being cased, the spirit smirked as the prince released too late what it meant for him, for as a firebender, his inner flame was like a mini sun in itself and thus it started to burn him from the inside out.
Before the prince to say his goodbyes as his inner flame consumed him, the spirit was stopped and banished from the town as another, friendlier spirit appeared. It was the spirit of the previous Avatar, who explained the reason he was here was because one of his blood silently called out to him. He walked towards the prince, who was getting over the fact that he was a descendent of the Avatar, as he stopped the curse from advancing
He told the prince and everyone in the square, how he could not destroy the curse, only a living Avatar to break the curse, but he could change it. He calmed the prince's new craving so he would only need a little to satisfy himself. He would have full control, unless he went without blood for a certain amount of time. He was given a new form to help stop his inner flame from consuming him. During the day, he would be able to transform at will, whenever he wanted, but at night, sadly he would have no choice but transform. Thankfully, despite the legends, he would not be able to pass the curse to anyone else
Because it was already dark, everyone watched as the prince went through his first transformation. Clothes were ripped apart as new appendages grew. Teeth lengthened into fangs. Nails became claws. Skin made way for scales except for around his scar. Soon, transformation was complete, and the prince couldn't help but let out a mighty roar. Afterwards, the prince was pleased to find that he could talk in this form, albeit with a slightly deeper voice. He thanked his Avatar ancestor for changing the curse.
His ancestor simply smiled and reminded him, that only a living Avatar could fully break the curse, hinting that the Avatar would eventually return. So, the prince would continue to search for the Avatar, but this time for a very different reason. He spent the rest of the week in his new form, so the townspeople, water tribe and his crew, as well as himself, could get used to it. After he left, the townspeople, along with his uncle's "club", started to spread the story of the prince's curse
And so, the legend of the Cursed Prince Zuko and The First Vampire Dragon began
