I don't own anything
Castiel stared at Dean's sleeping face.
His husband, his Alpha, lay there sleeping like nothing in the world bothered him. Even breathes, the rise and fall of his chest, the way he scratched his chest a few times before rolling over.
Normally Castiel struggled to sleep. Always kept an ear out in case e heard Dean up and moving about. Leaving in the middle of the night. However, the last three weeks Dean hadn't gotten up to leave for hours on end to a bar or the next town over.
No, now he stayed in bed at night. Sleeping until it was time to go to work in the morning. No more after-work drinking or even hours wasted at the bar.
Now he'd call on Fridays to say he was going to go out with the guys from work. A few drinks and come home. Even invited Castiel each time. Each time Castiel turned it down.
Dean came home at about eleven each Friday night, not a normal two am loud banging of the door, the slurred words and yelling that used to follow. No, now when Dean came home he was buzzed. Never drunk. Which Casteil found nearly impossible.
Eyes filling heavy with sleep Castiel continued to watch Dean. He was so tired, but couldn't fall asleep with the peacefulness his husband was having.
Still, it was a struggle. Even if he slept most of the time Dean was at work the Omega still had trouble staying awake all night. Stressed, upset, and felt so worn out.
"What's wrong?" Dean spoke suddenly, eyes blinking open as he looked over. "Cas, what's wrong? Are you okay?"
He must have whimpered. Something Castiel had resisted doing. He tensed up trying to mumble out words to explain. Instead, he tensed when Dean pulled him over gently, so gently, as if Dean thought he was made of glass, tucked close to his chest as hands gently soothed him.
"It's okay, I'm right here,"
The words were so kind. So, gently that Castiel heard the whimper this time. As it made him shiver. He leaned against Dean's chest listening to his heartbeat. Steady, strong, warm.
"I got you,"
Castile nodded staying where he was. The rhythm of the heart slowly lulls him to sleep. At some point, he must have fallen asleep because the sound of the alarm went off.
Dean got up, kissing him, saying he was going to get ready for work. That left Castiel on the bed for almost an hour before he got up. Walking downstairs he watched Dean make his own coffee, and some toast, only pausing to give him a kiss goodbye before leaving.
Standing at the door Castiel crossed his arms. It had been years since Dean had been so attentive. The last three weeks were like having a whole new person.
Still, Castiel forced himself to get ready, go to work, and get on with his day. The routine felt the same, work, break, work, clock out. Head home. It was once again Friday so he ended up looking at the time.
Sure enough, at exactly five pm Dean called saying he was going out with the guys, and that he'd be back by eleven. Castiel looked up at he house, his spine feeling tight with anxiety.
A part of him didn't want to go inside. Just to leave, run away to one of his brother's houses but that'd be met with mockery of a failed marriage. Taking in a breath he looked at his phone thumbing it wondering if he should call one of them to come over.
A bad idea.
His family was dysfunctional, yes, but they had their moments here and there where they could get along. Up and down he moved the names before shaking his head and pushing his phone back into his pocket.
Walking back to his car Castiel took a shaky breath he covered himself with a trench coat. The least thing he could do was get some sleep before Dean came home.
It took a good hour until Castiel was knocked out in his car. Sleeping for once in peace. It lasted until there was a knock on his window. Jerking away he held up his hands in shock.
"Cas, hey,"
"Dean?" Castiel stared confused. He scrambled for his phone seeing it was a little past eleven. "…."
"I didn't see you in bed," Dean sounded concerned. "You okay? Need me to help you inside or do you need to go to the hospital?"
"No, I'm fine," Licking his lips Castiel looked away. "I good. Just going to be in a minute."
"I'll wait for you,"
"You don't have to," Castiel shook his head, heart pounded so hard he was stunned it was breaking his ribs. Opening the door he got out looking at the Alpha. "Uh, did you have fun?"
"Yeah, had a blast. Come on, let's get you inside," Wrapping an arm around Castiel the Alpha helped in into the house grinning and giving a laugh. "You know one day your gonna join me. It's a lot of fun,"
It always sounded like fun. But, Dean had never invited him a month ago. In fact the first five years of their marriage Dean had argued that it was something for only him to enjoy. Not to keep begging like a clingy Omega to him and his friends.
Which had hurt Castiel. He only asked twice. Once Dean said no and left, the second the man had exploded on him in a rage that had left Castiel calling his family. Two of them, the oldest, Michael gave him a speech about an Omega obeying his Alpha. Raphael had said it was none of his business since. Lucifer had said to leave him for a week and watch Dean come crawling back. Gabriel was uncomfortable with it and tried to make a joke or two to avoid the seriousness of his situation.
"We should throw a barbeque and invite our families," Dean said suddenly. "Sunday. It'll be fun,"
"I… don't have time to get everything ready in time," Castiel said. It's been hell trying to get everything for a barbeque in less than a day. "Maybe next weekend?"
Dean would yell, saying he had to make things difficult. Case Castiel to feel horrible. Rushing to the store the second it opened to get everything before spending almost twenty-four hours awake trying to get everything ready, struggling to find exactly what the Alpha wanted.
"How about a week from now? We can go shopping tomorrow and get everything."
Castiel stared at Dean again for a long moment. "You're not mad?"
"No, course not," Dean leaned over to kiss him. "Come on, I'm beat. A good night's sleeps will do us wonders,"
The shopping day had been bazaar. Castiel was not sure who this Dean was or how he came to be. Being the perfect Alpha, a kind loving husband, Castiel would be lying if his heart didn't skip a beat, a warmth of butterflies filling his stomach like when they first met.
Still, Castiel forced it down, away, out of his mind shaking his head. His mind went back to that night Dean came home drunker than he had ever seen him. The fight, the screaming, the fight they had gotten into. A physical one that left Castiel bloody and bleeding.
He had no idea how he managed to get to his phone, pressing one of his bothers numbers. That night Dean had spent the weekends in jail with Castiel in pain, face swollen from the beating.
Shockingly it had been Lucifer who helped him out. The others seemed well enough to ignore this 'lover's quarrel' and Gabriel acted so awkwardly. As if it was he who was too uncomfortable to be there. Funny how he acted more like this thing affected him worse than Cas himself.
The week passed by the same. Castiel stayed awake staring at Dean, until the man went to work, slept where ever he could, and set up for Sunday. When it rolled around Castiel was there to greet everyone. Dean's brothers, Sam and Adam, his brothers who seemed to be glad to have a free dinner, and a few others, friends, family, and so on.
The party was going well. Dean was grilling like it he had been born right out of a grilling commercial. Castiel sat at one table not saying anything as Lucifer sat next to them silent.
No comments or sarcastic remarks that had the bickering. Instead, the blue eyes blond Omega kept staring at Dean in wide eyes before slowly looking at the youngest member.
"Castiel," He spoke voice hovering just above a whisper. "Who is that?"
"I don't know." Castiel gulped shaking his head.
"Is that Dean?"
"He says he is," Castiel looked at Lucifer both holding a solid gaze for a whole minute. "Acts like Dean. Just all the bad parts are gone."
Lucifer looked back at the man laughing, joking with his brother. "Then who the hell did we bury in the garden?"
That was the thing.
Castiel had dug up Dean.
Dean was still there.
So, who the hell was that?
