There is a history of games.
Games interwoven with human history, starting in the Egyptian empire five thousand years ago.
Ancient games foretold the future for citizens and kings. As games were played fate was decided in these magical ceremonies.
These games were called " The Shadow Games"

"It's lunchtime! Let's play Basketball!"
"Well let the girls play too."
"Oi Yugi!"
The tri-colored male looked up from the game he was playing at the mention of his name. Chiagozie, on his side with her head resting in her arms following his gaze.
Her eyes twitch as she looks at the person speaking. "Quit playing games by yourself and come play basketball for once.", one of their male classmates, Tanaka said."You can play too Reynold-san."Tanaka added.

Yugi's focus is back on the game as he stuck the last knife in the barrel toy, effectively saving the game piece inside. Chiagozie tore her eyes away from him and focused on Yugi, giving a quick smile. Lazily clapping her hands silently for him."Nice one Yugi."
"Thanks, Rei.", The coal-haired classmate looked at both Yugi and Chiagozie waiting for a response.
A few seconds passed before Chiagozie sighed.
"Listen." she breathed out slowly, she lifted her body off the table and stretched sitting upright. "That's nice of you to ask and all but, Tanaka-san I'm tired so no."
Japanese flows out soundly from her mouth as she speaks. Yugi's response follows right after hers."That's a no for me too, plus whichever team I'm on, will only end up losing so there's no point."
Chiagozie frowns at Yugi's remark, but decides not to comment.
Tanaka looks at the both of them, taking in their responses before he shrugs."Yeah you're probably right." he looks at Chiagozie for a second longer before he turns around running through the door ."Well, see ya then."
Chiagozie scowls as she watches Tanaka exit," Did you see the way he stared, he's annoying."
"He's probably just wondering how you're even friends with me," Yugi says offhandedly as he packs up his game. "Before you came to Japan I never really had friends, sure there was Anzu but we don't talk that much."
(A somber atmosphere has made its way between the two of them.)
Chiagozie raises an eyebrow and puts a hand over her chest in an offended manner, " So our 8 years of friendship that we have doesn't exist." she sobbed, wiping a nonexistent tear from her eye.
(Just like that the somber air vanished from between them.)
Rolling his eyes Yugi snorted as he reached inside his backpack, "You know what I mean Rei."
"Do I now?"
"You do." Yugi pulls out an Ancient Egyptian-looking gold box from his backpack and places it on the table between them. Another snide comment dies on Chiagozie's tongue as russet eyes sparkle in wonder.
"Is this it?" there's a hint of wonder in her voice as she asks looking straight at him.
Yugi can't help but think how pretty she looks as he smiles at her. "It is."
Chiagozie reaches out for it, but before she can even touch it. Honda snatches the box off Yugi's desk, and he grins holding it out of reach from them.
Behind Jounouchi as he leaned against a wall, unnoticed.
"What are you guys doing in here? It's so dark and gloomy here." he laughs before looking at the box." So, what is this Yugi?"
Chiagozie glares at him as she gets out of her seat." You fucking bitch, if you don't give that back right now, I'll beat you you'll be in a world of pain."She threatens him in English.
"Wow, that was a bit harsh." Jounouchi replies back in English with a grin. A brief look of surprise appears on Chiagozie's face when she spots him leaning on a wall.
(Of course her neighbor had to go to the same school she does, what were the chances?)
"If I'm so harsh, then why don't you just leave the room.",she continued in distaste.
"Not a chance." Jounouchi finishes in English with smirks.
Honda watches their interaction with an eyebrow raised not fully understanding what they both said. Before shrugging his shoulders, returning his attention to a frantic Yugi.
(She moves away from her seat wordlessly as she's ignored and stalks behind Honda.)
Yugi gets up from his seat and reaches for the box. "Honda-kun give that back." He brought it higher from Yugi's reach. "Give it back!" Honda gave him a Cheshire grin, before throwing it to Jounouchi.
(Yugi's pleas for his treasures' value go unheard. And Chiagozie comes closer curling her hand into a fist.)
"And he passes it to Jounouchi!" Honda says in an announcer-like voice. Jounouchi catches it, tossing it up and down.
"Since you're acting like such a girl about it, this must be pretty valuable." Jounouchi says nonchalantly," All you're jumping around is getting irritating. Quit it Yugi."
Jounouchi walked up to Yugi, bending to his level, "I'll teach you how to act like a man!" He exclaimed with a grin,"Just tell your girlfriend to hold her punch for a minute."
Brown eyes meet Russet. Chiagozie scowls at him, and Jounouchi gives her a grin.
Honda flinched as Chiagozie's irritated voice came from behind him," Like you even know how to be a man."
Yugi blushed, stunned," We're not dating." he squeaked. Jounouchi promptly Ignored both of them and stood upright.
He slapped a hand on his chest," Look I'll give back the box if you try with all your might to get it!"
Yugi blinked at him," But I hate fighting and Violence!" he yelled.
Chiagozie, Honda, and Jounouchi all winced at Yugi's volume, grumbling Jounouchi plugged both of his ears. "So loud but no guts behind it."
"Anyway," Yugi put his hand out," Give back the box," he said meekly.
"Not a chance," Honda answered snidely, and Chiagozie instantly put him into a headlock.
Honda clawed at her arms as she whispered menacingly in his ear," If you so much as try to get closer to Yugi with this kind of attitude again," she tightened her arms around his neck."You'll wish you were never born."
Honda felt his soul leave his body at her words, but Jounouchi's brought him back to life.
"So what's in the box anyway," Jounouchi asked curiously, brown eyes watching Honda's and Chiagozie's position intently.
"No of your business that's what." Chiagozie snapped with a glare. Jounouchi shrugged at her,"Then there's only one way to find out."
Her eyes widened at what Jounouchi was doing and her grip on Honda's neck loosened, giving him more time to breathe.
"Hey!"
"Y-you can look, but don't lose any pieces." Yugi squawked. "It's incredibly valuable," he added, panicked.
Jounouchi ignored them as he popped the box open, taking a look inside "This is dumb." he commented as he tossed it carelessly, with a bored expression on his face. "Catch."
Chiagozie pushed Honda out of the way as she dived to catch it, but stumbled over Honda's fallen form. A foreign hand caught it instead, Mazaki Anzu's hand.
"If it's so dumb then why didn't you just give back to Yugi."
"Mazaki" both Honda and Jounouchi shouted in unison.
("Anzu, nice catch!" Yugi said and Chiagozie gave her a thumbs up.)
"You guys are dumb for picking on people who are weaker than you!" she yells at them. Honda reached for his bruised neck and looked at Mazaki in a look of disbelief," Weaker? Riinorudo almost killed-"
"It's Reynold!" Chiagozie interrupted snapping at him and Mazaki glared at the boys." Beat it." she yelled.
"Damn you, you nosy woman."
"This isn't over! We'll remember you!"
They scurried away shouting. "Well here it is." she turned to them as she walked up to Yugi's desk.
Mazaki sighed as she placed the box back on Yugi's desk. Yugi sat down in his seat while Chiagozie returned to her spot right next to him. Mazaki pulled up a chair from another desk and sat right in front of Yugi.
"Your precious item."
"Thanks, Mazaki."
"Yeah thank you, Anzu."
Yugi glanced in the direction Jounouchi and Honda had been," But wow that was great. One word from you and they ran!" he said in amazement. Chiagiozie nodded in agreement.
Mazaki waved them both off," Don't flatter me, I just saw some innocent people being taken advantage of!" She jabbed her thumb in the direction of the door.
"I didn't want them to toss you and treasure around," she said looking at Yugi.
"All the guys in the class are just like those two!" She scowled, glancing off to the side," You know a while back the boys Invited the girls to play basketball, I immediately thought it was weird."
Anzu's scowl deepened as she continued," To make the winning basket, the girls should you this shooting posture."
Yugi gasped," Awful."
"So awful." Chiagozie parroted.
"Cut that out!"Mazaki snapped.
" Cut what out Mazaki?" Chiagozie asked, looking at her with feigned confusion.
" Nevermind." Mazaki groaned in frustration, turning her attention back to Yugi. Chiagozie smirked inwardly, slightly amused at her reaction.
"Still." Mazaki continued on,"Basketball isn't meant for looking up girls' skirts."
Yugi blinked as a weird smile spread on his face, light pink dusted his cheeks. "Mhm basketball," he said, absorbed in his thoughts.
Mazaki eyed him suspiciously, "Just what are you imagining."
Chiagozie kicked him discreetly from under the table, Yugi let out a shout of surprised wincing. "What was that for!"
Chiagozie leaned into him as she whispered. "Sorry but, if I hadn't done anything then you'd still be looking like a creep."
Yugi's eyes widened in understanding,scratching his cheek embarrassed, "Thanks Rei." he whispered back.
"Anytime"
"Yugi what's in this thing anyway?" Anzu asked oblivious to their conversation, she pointed to the box. Chiagozie perked up as she was curious about what was in the box too.
"Well I guess I can let you see since I was going to show Rei anyway." he smiled at her as he opened it. "But you have to promise to keep it a secret, okay."
Anzu nodded as both she and Chiagozie leaned in as Yugi fully uncovered the box to reveal gold pieces.
Both girls let out a small gasp of astonishment in unison. "Wow, so pretty, they glitter like gold," Anzu mumbled. "Is this part of a puzzle?" Chiagozie asked as she inspected one piece closely," It looks disconnected."
Yugi smiled, "Yep, though I've never completed it so I don't know the shape of it yet.", his excitement clear in his voice. "In other words, it's a thing that "can be seen but you haven't seen it!"
"I live in a game shop, there are all sorts of rare, unusual, and exotics games for sale there," Yugi explained. "It was just sitting there in a corner gathering dust and I found it."
"Now I think of this puzzle as a memento of my grandpa," Yugi added
Anzu's sudden droop of expression at Yugi's last sentence goes unnoticed by both Yugi and Chiagozie.
"This puzzle was found in Egyptian ruins," Yugi says continuing. "Egypt," Anzu repeated.
Chiagozie nodded, pointing to Yugi's treasure," Yeah see how the box is engraved in symbols, those are Egyptian hieroglyphs.", she added insightfully.
"And with an educated guess, I think I know what they mean."Yugi stated," The person who solves this puzzle will have one
"Like Shenron from Dragon Ball."Chiagozie compared. Yugi nodded in agreement,"Though maybe it's too fantastic though." Yugi said.
Yugi stared at Mazaki intently with a look of suspicion written all over his face, Chiagozie snorted at his expression.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"Mazaki asked Yugi, alarmed. "This is a secret between the three of us." he said in a hushed voice."Don't tell anyone about it Anzu."
Chiagozie side-eye her,"You got that Mazaki?"she asked, because even though Yugi knows her she wants to be sure.
Mazaki nodded, crossing her arms with a smile,"You guys can trust me." She assured them with a smile.
Chiagozie stared at her long and hard, and Mazaki stared back with equal force. Yugi held his breath as he waited for Chiagozie's verdict.
Chiagozie nodded, and smirked at Mazaki. Mazaki giving her one in return.
Yugi smiled, before slouching. "But the puzzle's very difficult," He sighed."I've been trying for eight years and still haven't finished it, and sometimes it gets me down."
Chiagozie put a reassuring hand on his shoulder, "Don't worry Yugi. it just means that you'll feel extremely fulfilled when you finish."
Mazaki winked at him with a smile, agreeing with her,"Reynold-san is right, keep at it Yugi." She gave him a thumbs up,"You'll get that wish.
" Yeah,I'll keep at it. Thank you guys." Yugi gave them a cheeky smile. Chiogozie's smirk turned soft as she looked at Yugi."No worries." she says waving him off.
"So,"Mazaki cut in curiosus,"What is your wish Yugi?"she asked. "Can't tell."He winked at her,"It's an absolutely confidential secret. Sealed forever in an ultra-tight vacuum pack."
Mazaki pouted before looking over to Chiagozie.
"Do you know what it is, Reynold-san?"Mazaki asked her and Chiagozie shook her head."I don't know either, though even if I did." she gave her a sly look."I'd never tell."

"Crap, that nerd and nosy woman!' Jounouchi complained loudly as he and Honda walked through the halls of Domino high.
"What about Reynold-san?" Honda asked as he thought back to the way his friend and Reynold acted with each other, as if they knew each other.
Jounouchi paused his complaining to look at his friend,"Oh her and I are neighbors that's all."
Honda would have believed Jounouchi, but from the look in his eyes and tone tell him there's something more.
Honda nodded and they continued walking. Jounouchi resumed his complaining, ignorant to the approaching figure ahead of them.
"Who's picking on weaker people?" he yelled. Honda frowned, crossing his arms with a huff,"Jounouchi that would be us." he admitted as they both slammed into a wall.
That wall was none other than Tetsu Ushio, and for the second time that day Honda felt his soul leave his body.
"What do you mean,'picking on'." Ushio interrogated, giving them a menchancing stare as he towering over them.
"I might've meant you!" Jounouchi glared disdainfully,"Move it." He demanded and Honda slapped his hand over Jounouchi's mouth before he could say anything else.
"We didn't mean anything." Honda denied giving Ushio a nervous smile as he sweated profusely,Ushio raised a thick eyebrow apprehensive before moving past them.
"Bullying is bad.", Ushio said as he walked away. Honda nodded vigorously in agreement,"Yeah,that's very true."
Jounouchi let out a strangled sound as he attempted to speak but his words were muffled by Honda's hand.
"Jounouchi,pick your fights better, you 's the demon of the morals committee Testu Ushio." Honda whispered harshly to him as he eyed Ushio's retreating form."He enforces the school rules on everyone. Don't get excited and mouth off around him."
Jounouchi gives Honda a very unimpressed look as they watch Ushio's form fade into the hallways. "He's gone."
Honda sags in relief as he removes his hand from Jounouchi's face. He gasps for air, "You Jerk that hurt!" Jounouchi yells, coughing as he glares at Honda.
Honda was trying to hold himself together after the scare he had,"That was scary." he muttered, as he walked along.
After a few steps Honda kicked the nearest wall and cursed."Now there's nothing to do,'' he complained. Jounouchi laughed smugly," oh yeah well I have something."
The brown haired boy looked at his friend with mild interest,"What is it?" Jounouchi grinned at him, reaching into his pocket to reveal one of the pieces to Yugi's puzzle.
Honda let out a gasp of shock as he looked at his friend's hand.
"While I was looking at Yugi's treasure box, I secretly took this."Jounouchi explained as he clenched his hands around the piece. " He didn't notice when I took it, but now the puzzle is useless. Without this piece, his riddle will be,'It's a treasure, but now the treasure is lost." he grinned.
"Oh wow Jonouchi, that's slick."Honda snickered along with Jounouchi. He watched as Jounouchi reeled his hand back and threw the piece into the school pool.
Honda laughed loudly as Jounouchi stared at the window for a bit longer, before he turned away. Nodded over to Honda,"Let's go."
With that they both continued onto their day.
