TMNT

Kicking the rocks, April walked down the familiar neighborhood with a new feeling of anger. Everything her father had clearly worked for…gone. Her dignity…..gone. The stupid krang had ruined everything. If it weren't for those mutant turtles, she would have been a goner.

The turtles had left after making their appearance. But what she had seen had already defied everything she knew to be true. First those stupid aliens show up and mess with all the facts known to mankind but then, those mutant turtles came next. When would all this stop? All the stupid lectures her professor told her or those thick textbooks that she studied for hours on end. Was it all for nothing? Was life itself just one big lie?

Turning her attention back to reality, April climbed the nearest ladder and headed to the rooftop for a small pondering session. Maybe up there she could think in peace. But when she had successfully climbed up the narrow ladder, she saw a large figure slumped on the rooftop ledge.

April took small but careful steps forward, "Hello? Who is there?"

The figure looked up and started to get up with haste. It was almost like it was scared.

"Wait!" April took one step forward, "Please don't leave."

"Wait why?" The mysterious figure responded. Its voice was soft, like it was a small, scared child stranded in the middle of nowhere. The figures posture was straighter now, through the small faint of light, a small smile was brought on.

April sighed, "I've had a day, I need someone to talk to. If that's all right."

When there was no response, April carefully took more steps forward. Through the small faint light from the stars, she could make out the green color all over the figure. She gasped but felt to afraid to say anything.

"I know I might seem scary but I'm not. I promise." The figure said as he held out his hand, "Names Michelangelo or Mikey for short."

April felt herself shrink a little. Should she really just trust someone she just meant. The figure obviously wasn't human, which meant danger. Right? Through all the thoughts of panic and her entire body tensing up, there was a small feeling of curiosity. Plus, they were on a rooftop that overlooked the entire city of New York, if she needed help, all she needed to do was scream.

"Ok…my name is April," April replied softly. Although she felt completely petrified, the movement of shuffling both feet forward felt calming, almost like all this was meant to happen. In some way or form.

"That's a pretty name," Mikey responded as he sat back down on the ledge. April soon followed suit. She was still a good few feet away from Mikey, but she did indeed sit on the same ledge as him. She looked over to see her mysterious friend staring up at the stars.

"Wow the stars really are pretty tonight," Mikey gasped. April looked up, wow he really wasn't kidding. The stars gleamed in the moonlit night as showers of laughter could be heard from below. The little dipper along with the small hook star consultations could be seen.

"I no naka no kawazu taikai o shirazu," Mikey said softly eliminating the silence between the duo. "It translates to, the frog in the well knows nothing of the sea."

April smiled and looked over, "Is that a Japanese saying?"

Mikey looked over and chuckled lightly, "Yea, my dad gave us a whole list of Japanese sayings. I guess that one really stuck out to me because it teaches that many people judge things by their own experiences without knowing the whole world that's just waiting for them outside."

"You know, maybe I'll have to write that one down," April replied scooting closer to her new friend. Mikey seemed safe enough, he hadn't done anything to prove otherwise. Maybe she could accept something that wasn't so well….human. But until then, she would still have to take a few safely measures.

Gulping to herself, April asked the question that was weighing her down greatly. "Hey Mikey, what are you exactly?"

Mikey looked back down, he sighed, "we're turtles, mutated at birth."

"Wait, so you're the turtles that saved me today?"

"Yup, me and my brothers."

April sighed, was she taking on to much? What would her father say if he knew what she was doing currently? He definitely wouldn't be happy, maybe she should leave Mikey alone. If there were more of them…. what would his brothers even say or do? Hanging with humans was probably not allowed. But yet, Mikey was.

But the underlining principle that the mutated turtles had probably been through enough was another valid reason for parting their ways. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Or maybe it was. April's mind felt stuck between two hard places. She could either abandon the whole idea of leaving or accept the sad reality of the situation and leave. Both ideas had a horribly negative side to it.

"Watashi no kyodai-tachi wa yoi imi de," A voice said bringing April out of her troublesome thoughts. "It means that my brothers mean well."

April stayed silent, she didn't really know how to respond to this or the entire gravitating situation she was currently stuck in.

"Sure, they may seem intimidating, but I promise that they won't hurt you." Mikey responded. He reached over and touched the top of April's hand.

April felt complied to pull away, her entire mind was resisting accepting the mutant turtle's presence. But there was also a comforting side to all this.

"I know Mikey, your really sweet," she said sweetly.

"I mean, it's by a long shot, but maybe some day you could meet the others. I mean…you've already seen us up close."

Smiling to herself, April thought about it all. Sure, maybe in the future but right now wasn't the time. She still needed to digest all of this, the possibilities, and the consequences. But definitely someday.

"Sure Mikey, someday," April smiled, "We'll keep in touch."

Mikey grinned widely, "same rooftop tomorrow?"

Taking a deep breath, April felt herself make a firm discussion. She was going to give the turtles a chance, get to know them. All starting with Mikey.

"Sure Mikey."

I no naka no kawazu taikai o shirazu: The frog that stays in the well knows nothing of the sea

I apologize if the Japanese words are spelled wrong in any way, I triple checked the words, but mistakes happen.
