The Eagle Union and Azur Lane are all in a massive fleet approaching the Sakura Empire. As we do so, I am reading my book, which details that every great one yearns for a child, such as Fauna and Flora did. 'What does she mean by "did"? Did they die somehow? Actually, who wrote this book? Maybe I could try to meet them, and see what they know directly.'
I flip the book over, seeing the author as "Amagi Remission". 'Like, the dead Amagi? That doesn't make sense, and there are no Amagi class with the name Remission either. I wonder if Purifier knows more.'
I'm knocked out of my thoughts by the waves rocking the boat, nearly throwing some of us off the boat. A massive storm is overhead, and Laffey clings to my arm to stay on the ship.
A bright flash of light sets off all kinds of alarm bells in my brain, but as I look up at the source I just see red lightning. While chaotic and looming over us, it is not causing us any damage. 'Strange, but it's almost pretty. Although, this strange feeling I get from it… it's so familiar, yet distant. What do I recognise it from- right! Back from the siren portal.'
As quick as the storm descended, it vanished. In its place, there is a massively different ocean in front of us. It truly does feel like a dream. It almost looks like a small galaxy is above us, not too different from the Siren's world.
Dozens of production-model Sirens appear through portals, where I finally see Akagi floating above the fleet.
The Royal Navy begins to go to work on the Fleet, while Eagle Union takes a step back to reserve their energy for the real battle to come.
'It's going to be a scramble to remove the key players, most likely. Enty will probably try to get in close using her aircrafts, so where does that leave me?'
The Sakura Empire's fleet begins to rear its head through many portals, staring us down.
Enty begins flying in on an aircraft, while I line up my scope on Kaga.
'Wait for it… wait for it…'
The shells and explosions rock the waves, but I hold fast. The moon shines on me as I take my shot at Kaga… and she blocks it with an aircraft.
'I may have missed the clean hit, but that doesn't mean I can't support.'
I continue firing shots off at Kaga, trying to cripple a limb to take her out of the fight.
'At least she can't summon that fox like this, or she'll be an easy target.'
Kaga looks me in the eye, before dodging around another shot. She weaves between my bullets, not even looking at me anymore.
'Dammit, let's see if that training with Purifier paid off!'
I lead my shot, shooting right where Kaga dodged into.
A smile adorns my features, and Kaga only looks at me too late.'Yes!'
Then she smirked at me.
Enty flies right into my shot, taking a hit to the back, getting knocked into the ocean below.
My eyes open in shock, and my smile is wiped off my face.
Mom, Hornet and I are all screaming her name.
I rush in, attempting to reach her body before it sinks too deep.
I scream out mid sprint, "Akagi, Kaga, WHY?! Why with this goddamn war?! It nearly killed two people in my family already!"
I don't look at Akagi, I don't want to even look at her right now. I dive into the water after Enry, only for a massive yellow beam to radiate out from her, encompassing the fleet.
My ears are ringing, but I can see fine again. The area we were just in is covered in ice, and the strange, dream-like space is no more.
I shake my head, getting the ringing out of my ears. 'Well, I guess it's time to find Laffey and Enty.
…what the fuck is that?!'
There are large orange rifts in reality, which hurt to look at, almost as if it is prying my eyes open just from looking at it. 'And yet… it's so pretty… Snap out of it Reprisal! You have family to take care of, so let's get going!'
I force myself to turn away from the rifts in reality, continuing towards the sound of conflict.
As I approach a large field of ice, I feel a presence nearby, as if through a rift. 'What is that? It feels so familiar… like I'm being observed… but from where? Nobody is around.'
I see a fleet zoom by overhead, above all the icebergs in the area. 'Are those Enty's aircrafts? Shit, gotta go now!'
As I make it to the scene, I watch as Enty moves to finish off the crane sisters. Before the plane could reach them, however, Ayanami leaps at it, cutting it in half. It would be impressive, were that supposed "Demon" not hurtling towards a rift in reality that spawned in front of her.
Laffey and Javelin are both on the cliff above, watching her hurtle towards her death. 'Please don't do what I think you're about to do, Laffey.'
Both of them jump down the cliff, with Javelin anchoring herself to the cliffside as Laffey reaches Ayanami. Javelin reaches out for Laffey's hand, grabbing it… or at least, that's what I wish happened. She misses, and Laffey is falling towards the rift at record speed. She throws Ayanami up, using her rigging to launch her into Javelin's grasp. The blasts of her rigging only accelerated her descent, leaving no time for anyone to save her.
"LAFFEY, NO!" She falls through the rift, disappearing entirely. I run under where the rift was, only finding Laffey's flask landing in my hands.
My voice is guttural, with syllables comprising words incomprehensible by anyone nearby. "Nonono! NO! This can't be happening, it can't!"
They understood it regardless, like how a baby understands their mother's calming words, even if they don't know the language. My blind eye is glowing a deep blue, a whirlpool effect swirling inside of it. The rifts begin pooling into me, filling me with an orange glow that shifts into a deep blue the longer it goes on.
Zuikaku knocks me out with a quick blow to the neck, before carrying me off the scene to her fleet. Nobody moves to stop her, whether out of shock for Laffey's death, or out of fear of what I am, is unknown.
I have a bad migraine right now, 'It's weird. I fell through that hole in the sky, and now it's suddenly warm. But I can't open my eyes, like something in my head is stopping me. It feels like such a bad idea, yet so tempting.'
I feel myself get placed down on a bed, one that feels so familiar, yet different. "You can open your eyes now, Laffey."
'That voice! Is it you, Reprisal?'
I open my eyes, the weight lifted, and look at my savior. They look just like Reprisal, but with one purple eye instead of Reprisal's blue, with the blind eye a swirling orange visible beneath the eyepatch. Even more apparent are the fox ears in her brown hair, and the fluffy tails behind her. "Who are you?!"
I flinch from speaking so loud. The woman goes to reach for my head, and I flinch away from her. She seems disappointed by my reaction, before sitting down on the bed next to my head.
She seems to be searching for words, before looking at me. "I… am Remission. I am the one who created that rift, and brought you here."
I barely look up at her, my headache getting worse the longer I look at her. She seems to notice, "Does your head hurt? That makes sense. Just get some sleep, and drink some water. Here, I'll go get you some."
She stands up, walking out of my view.
'God, this migraine sucks. Why did she bring me here? And… why does she look like Reprisal?'
She walks back in, sitting down next to me. "Here honey, have some water, it'll help."
I attempt to glare at her, but my headache ends that idea. I take the water from her, drinking it all. "Why did you… bring me here?"
She smiles a mischievous grin, taking the glass from me. "Well, if your beloved died, and you found out you could not only save them from their death, but actually live with them in your own little world, you would too, right?"
I look at her confused, and she elaborates. "Well, if I left you there, you would've eventually died from Amagi, after you stole a pocky stick from Reprisal."
I look at her like she's insane, "Amagi's dead. Why would she kill me over a pocky stick?"
She shakes her head, "She is? Well then I guess Reprisal isn't as useless as me. But regardless, it was not the pocky stick, but what was on it."
"The spit?"
She looks at me excited, "Yeah! Although, you didn't react the way I thought you would to mine."
I shoot up, my headache sending me straight back into the bad. "What?!"
She looks at me confused, seemingly thinking about something. "Ah, I see. You already took the Pocky stick from her, huh? That would explain the lack of reaction, but why aren't you devoted to her then? Why do you still have your eyes?"
The horrified look on my face must've been obvious, because she looks at me apologetically. "Sorry, I'm used to you being much more understanding of my line of thoughts than this, although it's not a bad change of pace."
I put my hand over my head, "What do you mean, I've never met you."
She shakes her head, "Not you, but you. Sorry, but multiverse theory is confusing sometimes."
I nod my head, "could you get me an ice pack?"
She nods, talking as she grabs one from the other room. "Of course. Well, we were married in my universe. Well, engaged, at least. We met when Mom brought me to the Eagle Union to try their food, and you seemed alone. We eventually became a thing, and when you shared a pocky stick with me, you became devoted to me."
I take the ice pack, resting it on my head. "Wait, but you're a member of the Eagle Union."
She looks at me confused. "What do you mean? I was born in the Sakura Empire."
"Reprisal was born to Yorktown, who was your Mom?"
She snaps her fingers, seemingly having come to a conclusion. "So that's it! Our worlds are flipped, I was born to Amagi, and she was born to Yorktown!"
I shake my head slightly at her. "So what happened to me?"
She shakes her head, with a sudden depressed look casting over her face. "After the pocky stick, you clawed your eyes out. While you survived, Mom and my sisters were horrified. I still loved you, and we had a happy life for some time, despite the state of the world.
Regardless, Mom thought you weren't the real Laffey, that you were suffering. But how could that be so, you were so in love with me, we would rarely be separated! Oh, the things we did together…"
I cough, getting her attention back. Her voice takes an aggressive tone, "Right! So, Mom thought you were suffering, or something like that, and decided to kill you! Of course, I tried to stop her, but I couldn't reach her in time, and your throat was slit. Once Mom was dead, it was too late to save you."
'That's terrifying.'
She stands up, walking to the door. "Anyways, I'll let you rest up and acclimate before we go outside. I rather like the way your eyes look, afterall."
I am looking at where she was standing with fear evident in my face. I hear her call out from the hall, "Oh, and no alcohol! That stuff will kill you!"
I lay down, massaging my temples and trying to lull myself to sleep.
…
'Reprisal, please save me.'
Those who have enough insight to see beyond are classified as insane by normal people. Well does that make me insane, when I am a product of the beyond, or just a new normal? I mean, everyone has something they get a little crazy for, like maybe over your favorite food, or your wife. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, with fixating on the thing you care most about at the moment. Well, that's not entirely true. There is something wrong if you're not doing that, when you could be. Of course, sometimes you need to give them some space, which is fine, since it's for them. But not spending time with them when you could be? Terrible. Abhorrent. Disgusting You should never waste any time you have with them, especially if their safety is something you care about. - Excerpt from Remission's Journal
