The blue robed man opened the door and left. They followed in silence. Outside were two other armed men that immediately followed them. Jack noticed that they were heading to the corridor that led to the cell where he hoped Daniel and Teal'c still were. Indeed, they arrived there after some minutes of walking in silence.
"Hey guys!", Daniel said when the door opened and they entered the cell.
His eyes moved then to their holding hands.
"Is everything okay?", he asked slowly.
"Apparently we can leave. So move on, people", Jack said moving his eyes to the door.
Daniel looked at him surprised. "Really?! Wow! Really, Jack?! How did you get that?", he asked picking his jacket from the cot.
"I'll explain later. Now let's get out of here", Jack said in a hurried voice.
"Indeed", Teal'c was already by the door looking at the man with the blue robe.
He made no attempt to stop him from leaving. Nor Daniel and finally Sam and Jack. They moved again along the corridor but at some point the man lifted his hand and stopped.
"What?", Jack asked.
The man turned to his left and took something from inside his robe. Some kind of metal key that he inserted in the rock. The rock moved and a passage was suddenly visible. And sunlight. The man just pointed out with both hands.
"Is this the exit?", Jack asked pointing to the sunlight that came out from the passage.
The man continued to point.
"Well, I guess we'll take our chances", Jack said still holding Carter's hand.
"What about our weapons and backpacks, O'Neill?", Teal'c asked. With a suspicious look to the three alien men.
"I don't think they are returning them, T. So let's get the hell out of here", he said moving to the passage. Carter right behind him.
The passage was very short and in less than a minute they were outside. In what appeared to be a dense forest.
"Any idea where the gate might be, Captain?", Jack asked turning to Sam.
Sam looked around and then to the sky.
"Well, Sir without my instruments and no point of reference it will be quite difficult", she said.
"Okay, so let's move a little and see if we recognise something", he said starting to walk.
The rest of SG-1 followed him. They continued to walk for several minutes. Sam started to feel a little dizzy but tried to disguise it as best as possible, under the circumstances. She hadn't eaten anything since she had arrived at the planet and only been given a little water at that 'room'. Jack continued to walk failing to notice that she was starting to fall behind. Suddenly, her foot hit a rock and she lost her balance. And then all went black.
The guys were walking when they heard the sound of something falling. Jack turned his head just in time of seeing Carter falling to the ground like a log.
"Hey Carter!", he yelled going back for her.
Alarmed, Daniel and Teal'c also stopped. She was face down on the floor and not moving at all. Jack checked for a pulse and found it.
"I think she fainted", he said gently turning her on her back. He slowly put one hand in her head supporting her neck.
Daniel was already kneeled by his side.
"She's very paled, Jack", he noticed. Moving some hairs from her face.
"Yeah, she is", Jack agreed.
"Maybe this will help", Teal'c said extending his water bottle.
Jack took it and slowly put it on Carter's lips. The water just dropped from the bottle through her mouth without really getting into her. After some seconds Jack put the bottle down.
"Daniel, raise her legs. She needs blood to get to her brain", he instructed as he continued to held her head very gently.
Daniel did as he said, lifting Sam's legs and supporting them with his hands. They did that for a while.
"Okay, I think that's enough", Jack said.
"What else can I do?", Daniel asked.
"Open her jacket. She needs to breath", he said caressing her hair.
Daniel quickly opened her jacket and then suddenly remembered he had some candies with him. He took one from his vest.
"Here. She might have low blood sugar", he said unwrapping it.
Jack lifted her head a little and Daniel put the candy in her mouth. They waited a little and Sam suddenly started to cough. Jack held her more upright.
"Hey, are you alright?", he asked as she put her fingers inside the mouth and took the candy out.
"Put it back. You need the sugar", Jack said.
Slowly, she did what he said and closed her eyes.
"What happened?", she asked in a hoarse voice.
"We don't know. You just dropped on the floor", Jack said still holding her.
"You appeared to have lost your senses, Captain Carter", Teal'c said.
Jack suddenly remembered something.
"Carter…When was the last time you ate something?", he asked.
"Ahh…probably before we arrived here, Sir", she said with her eyes still closed.
"Shit, Carter that was almost two days ago", he said angrily.
Daniel started to take his protein bar from the vest.
"Here, eat this, Sam", he said giving it to her.
Sam opened her eyes and with a shaky hand took the bar. She slowly started to eat it. Teal'c also took his and gave her.
"I'm good, guys", she said trying to refuse the Jaffa's bar.
He insisted and remained with his hand extended. Sam picked the bar and also ate it.
"You also need to drink water", Jack said picking the water bottle again.
Sam was starting to feel a little better as her blood sugar levels started to stabilize. "Yes Sir", she said accepting the bottle. She drank almost all the water.
"How are you feeling, Sam?", asked Daniel taking her hand and gently caressing it.
Jack raised an eyebrow but kept silent.
"Better. I think I can stand now, Sir", she said.
Jack helped her get up and when she swayed a little, he firmly grabbed her arm, steading her.
"Not very steady yet, Captain", he said not letting her go.
"Getting there, Sir", she said trying to stand on her own.
Daniel was watching them with curiosity.
"Maybe you should let Jack help you a little, while we continued to walk", he offered.
"That's a very wise advice", Teal'c said.
Sam blushed and stopped fighting her CO arm grip.
"Okay. Thank you, Sir", she said.
"No problem, Captain. Better than to have you kissing the dirt again", he said still holding her arm, although not as tight.
They continued to walk. And then suddenly Daniel stopped.
"Wait! I remember that we've passed through this road when they took us from the gate. Look!", he said pointing to one very high tree that was split in half. Probably by a lightning.
"Yes, I also remember this tree", Sam said. Her vision still a little blurry.
"So are we on the right road to the gate?", Jack asked.
Both the scientists nodded. They continued for more minutes. Jack could feel his 2IC was getting exhausted not only by the way she had stopped fighting him but by the way she had started leaning on him. He only hoped she didn't faint again. They needed to get to the gate fast. She probably needed medical attention. She needed Janet.
Finally, the gate was in their sight.
"Alleluia", Daniel said starting to run for the DHD.
"We don't have the GDOs…" Sam remembered with a weak voice. She had started to feel dizzy again.
Jack had already thought about that during their walk.
"We have to take our chances. General Hammond knows we are late. We haven't reported back. He knows that something is wrong. He will have the iris open", he said. "Dial it, Daniel", he ordered.
"We should wait for the MALP, Sir…", Sam said putting her head against his shoulder.
"Yeah, Jack…Maybe we should wait", Daniel said while putting Earth's address.
"Carter isn't well. She needs a doctor. We can't wait", he said determined.
"I'm alright, Sir", she said lying.
"Of course you are, Captain", he said putting a hand through her waist to support her best.
The wormhole was established.
"Let's move on. They will have the iris opened", Jack said with confidence.
"Boy, I really hope so…", said Daniel following him.
