S2 E6 AU Terminal Leave

AU stories for NCIS episodes. Each is independent from all the others since this is based on the possibility of parallel universes and multiple timelines…. many, many of them. Later on some may seem to follow something that happened in an earlier AU episode story but it's probably coincidence unless I say otherwise in the beginning. Again, these are AU scenes/stories which means a character may die in one story and be alive in the next one. Or it might be a missing scene.

This is a short alternate universe story/scene for season 2, episode 16 Terminal Leave

The original episode aired on November 16, 2004.
The dialogue in some of this is from the episode.

The team had two days off and then it was back to work. They were at their desks finishing up their reports and talking about the case and the people.

"This was a terrible case. Don't get me wrong. We kept everyone safe until the end when Commander Shields had to defend herself."

Kate jumped in. "I know what you mean. I don't feel good about most of it."

McGee wasn't going to be left out. "I don't think I like protection detail."

"The worst part for me was high school," Kate admitted.

"For me it was Gibbs catching me playing the game in MTAC," Tim sulked.

Tony laughed. "Oh, come on, probie, you did it for the kid. Gibbs still likes you."

"They are pretty nice kids," Kate told the guys.

Gibbs had listened to them while he wrote his own reports. A lot had happened in the last few days but it seemed like there was a happy ending. Even FBI Special Agent Lina Reyes was satisfied and Gibbs had figured out that she was most definitely hard to satisfy.
"Yeah, Gibbs," he answered his desk phone. It was Fornell and there was nothing good about what he was telling him. He kept his composure knowing his team would take it really hard. "Thanks for calling, Tobias," and hung up.

He stood and walked to where he could see all of his agents and they could see him. They'd heard his side of the phone call and were now looking at him, expectantly, wondering what was going on. He hadn't told them to grab their gear.

Gibbs hated doing it but sometimes you just had to say it, spit it out all at once.

"The Shields family, mom, dad, daughter Jen, son Willy were killed about 15 minutes ago when their new SUV exploded. The boyfriend, Lyle Chambers, was killed too."

He waited just a few seconds before adding,"The FBI is giving a press conference soon."

There wasn't anything he could say or do to lessen the anguish they were feeling. He was feeling it too and was wondering when the bomb was planted and who planted it. They thought they got the whole cell but now… time to talk to Morrow about going to see Roland Alan Moore. As he headed up the stairs another thought occurred to him. Could it have been someone related to Greta Boyen? Were they looking for revenge? Maybe bomb making ran in that family.
