S2 E7 AU Call of Silence
AU stories for NCIS episodes. Each is independent from all the others since this is based on the possibility of parallel universes and multiple timelines…. many, many of them. Later on some may seem to follow something that happened in an earlier AU episode story but it's probably coincidence unless I say otherwise in the beginning. Again, these are AU scenes/stories which means a character may die in one story and be alive in the next one. Or it might be a missing scene.
This is a short alternate universe story/scene/missing scene for season 2 episode 7, Call Of Silence
The original episode aired on November 23, 2004.

"General Cresswell, please," Gibbs told the person on the other end of the line. Special Agent Jethro Gibbs, NCIS," he replied when they asked who he was. "Yes, it's about a case," he told them when they pried into the reason for his call. Gibbs was wondering if he should have just walked in and asked to see the General. He was on hold for about 5 minutes because he wouldn't let them have the General call him back.
"Cresswell here. How the heck are you, Gibbs?"
"I'm good, General. Thanks for taking my call."
"Not at all. I'm over here trying to navigate my way through all these personalities," he joked.
Gibbs chuckled. "Yes, sir, most of them were very fond of the Admiral and his way of doing things. I'm sure it's a challenging adjustment having you show up as their boss."
The General laughed. "What can I do for you?"
"It's about Corporal Ernest Yost. WWII vet, Medal of Honor recipient. Confessed that he murdered his friend on Iwo Jima."
"Yes, I'm familiar. SecNav has pushed hard for the man to be incarcerated immediately at Quantico while undergoing psychiatric evaluation."
Gibbs sighed. "I need some time to prove he didn't murder Corporal Kean. I believe he needed to keep him quiet after his legs were blown off by a landmine. The whole squad would have been lost if they'd been discovered by the Japanese."
"What do you need from me, Gibbs?"
"Lt. Commander Coleman is quite….. zealous. I'm afraid she won't give me and my team a chance to get to the bottom of what happened. Yost buried his wife of 58 years just two weeks ago. He's grieving, sir. I believe her death triggered something and I need a little time to get to the bottom of it."
The General asked, "How much time?"
Gibbs hated to be pinned down but the truth was he didn't know. Of course, if his little play didn't work, time wouldn't matter. The Commander was on her way and he still needed to go get Hitoshi at the restaurant.
"She's going to be here soon to arrest Yost and take him to Quantico. I have something planned that might shed some light and spare everybody, especially Yost, sir. If she won't go along with me, may I call you for backup?"
"Yea, sure. I don't think any of us want to do anything to the man but Coleman likes to win and thanks to SecNav this is her case. Don't take too long."
"Thank you, General. Good luck in your new post."
"Take care, Gibbs. Don't be a stranger. I may need backup over here."
