S2 E12 AU Doppelganger - Another episode I didn't like.

AU stories for NCIS episodes. Each is independent from all the others since this is based on the possibility of parallel universes and multiple timelines…. many, many of them. Later on some may seem to follow something that happened in an earlier AU episode story but it's probably coincidence unless I say otherwise in the beginning. Again, these are AU scenes/stories which means a character may die in one story and be alive in the next one. Or it might be a missing scene.

This is a short alternate universe story/scene for season 2, episode 12, Doppelganger

The original episode aired on January 18, 2005.

And finally, all mistakes are mine

It was early afternoon and the team was working on cold cases. Thank goodness there hadn't been a murder in quite a while. Tim didn't want to think about the number of days or he'd jinx it and they'd get the call. He checked the time and headed for Gibbs' desk.

His boss looked up as he arrived, his eyebrow raising a little. "Yeah, McGee?"

"Today's my meeting at JAG. Still okay if I go?"

"Of course you can go. Who's on defense?"

"Commander Rabb."

"Do you have everything you need? Abby can work on Wilson's computer some more."

McGee shook his head. "No, she found out as much as can be found out about the trojan horse. The best thing going for him is no financial motive at all. There is no evidence he received any money, not one dollar. And he has an alibi for the time frame when Lambert died."

"It's always good to have no motive and I hear there are about a dozen character witnesses for how much he loves the Navy," Gibbs told him. "Karen Wilkerson framed him and she's not cooperating at all."

McGee smiled. "Yeah, her DNA on the cigarettes and access to Niles' computer and we found a lot of money. What do you think she wants?"

Gibbs looked thoughtful. "A deal for less time I imagine." He'd liked her and still held out hope he wouldn't have to testify against her. Her lawyer would use their evening in his basement against him.

"Go on, Tim. Take as much time as you need. If we get a call we'll handle it."

"Thanks, boss."

McGee grabbed his bag and headed for the elevator.

One month later Petty Officer Niles Wilson was found not guilty on all charges. He and McGee became friends and they play video games.

Three months later Karen Wilkerson pleaded guilty to manslaughter and other charges. They never found the gun so couldn't prove she fired the shot that killed Lambert. There was enough circumstantial evidence that a jury might find her guilty of murder so she chose to plead out and received concurrent sentences, not consecutive sentences. Gibbs received a letter from her about a month after she was sentenced asking him to visit her.

Thanks for reading. If my muse comes up with something different, I'll come back.
