S2 E16 AU Pop Life

AU stories for NCIS episodes. Each is independent from all the others since this is based on the possibility of parallel universes and multiple timelines…. many, many of them. Later on some may seem to follow something that happened in an earlier AU episode story but it's probably coincidence unless I say otherwise in the beginning. Again, these are AU scenes/stories which means a character may die in one story and be alive in the next one. Or it might be a missing scene.

This is a short alternate universe story/scene for season 2, episode 16,

The original episode aired on March 1, 2005.

For Melindaleo (I deleted what I had and wrote this instead. I hope you're not too disappointed.)

UPDATE- I took out the name of the wife.

Gibbs and the team showed their credentials to the officer in the corridor and then headed for the crime scene tape. Another uniformed officer intercepted them.

"Gibbs, NCIS," he told them.

"Campbell."

"What have you got?"

"Petty Officer Second Class Manda King, according to her ID. The detective says the case can be yours but he keeps the suspect."

Gibbs was okay with that for now. "Where is the suspect?"

"Being processed."

Gibbs looked at his team. "Blackadder. Find out about our petty officer. McGee, measure and sketch. Todd, photos."

A voice behind him said, "Officer Campbell, I'll take it from here."

Gibbs turned to see who it was that dismissed Campbell.

"Detective DiNozzo," Gibbs addressed the cop who was most likely in charge of the scene. "Aren't you supposed to be in Baltimore?"

Dinozzo looked Gibbs up and down and then smiled. "I remember you. You have a weird name. Shouldn't you be retired by now?"

Gibbs chuckled. "How'd you end up here?"

DiNozzo considered the question and the person asking. "Well, at first it was equal pay, better benefits and flexible hours."

The two men stepped out of the way for Ducky and Jimmy to pass.

"How'd your partner take you leaving?"

DiNozzo's eyes flashed for a second and his expression was anger, hurt, sadness, maybe all of the above. "He dealt. I didn't care."

Gibbs gave him an understanding nod. "And what is it now?"

DiNozzo smiled big. "Now it's more about respect and I get to be a part-time training officer. I'm not the most senior detective but I'm close enough so I get to see my family on more weekends and holidays." He pulled out his wallet and showed Gibbs a photo, pointing to the people in it. "My wife, baby Bianca, Anthony DiNozzo the third and my dad."

Gibbs admired the beautiful family and could definitely see the family resemblance, especially with the three males in the same photo.

"Nice," he told the detective sincerely.

"Your team seems pretty young," DiNozzo told Gibbs. He laughed to himself because he meant compared to their team leader.

"That they are," Gibbs admitted and then for some strange reason decided to share. "I lost two agents at about the same time. The three I have now are Blackadder who was FBI, McGee who came to me right out of FLETC and Todd who was Secret Service."

DiNozzo looked surprised and admitted, "I didn't realize so many people changed agencies." He could have smacked his own head for saying that because he was working in his fourth police department.

"It happens," Gibbs told him.

"What happened to the two you lost? You don't mean died, do you?"

Gibbs shook his head. "No, nothing like that. One now has his own team in San Diego and the other one is senior on a team in Japan."

Ducky got his attention. "Let's go see what my ME's got," he told Detective DiNozzo and headed for the body. His three agents looked like they were close to wrapping up so he'd hear their verbal reports too.
