knock! knock! knock!
"Coming!"
Cora Crawley said as she came running down the stairs of her home, emerging from her small study room. She was doing her paperwork for a meeting at the company tomorrow while playing some of her favorite music in the background. It was all enough for her to get going and be preoccupied while it rained heavily outside.
knock! knock! knock!
"Coming! Just wait!"
She already knew who it was behind the door, and opening the said door only proved her right. As always.
"Looks like someone didn't listen to his wife and got terribly soaked today."
The broad, tall figure sighs tiredly, and gave her a small smile "Hello to you too, Cora."
Robert Crawley, CEO of Grantham Corp., was soaked from head to toe as he stood at the front porch of their Cincinnati home. All except his briefcase, that is.
"At least my briefcase is waterproof," he then said "So no documents were soaked."
"At least your papers are more prepared for the rain than you are." Cora teased, making him chuckle softly.
"Yes …I now apologize for not taking my umbrella when I insisting to be on my bike. And also taking my bike in the first place." Robert puts his hands up half-heartedly in defeat "May I please enter now?"
But little did he know, Cora had other plans in mind, especially now that he's back home.
After taking the briefcase to dry and placing on top of their doormat, she suddenly takes his hand and pulls him out of their porch and back in the into the rain once again.
"Cora!" Robert said in surprise, as she lets go of his hand and spins around under the grey sky, smiling and laughing as she is now soaked wet like him.
But soon after, a smile slowly formed in his face at the view he was witnessing. Not only because it was his wife that he was looking at, but it is seeing her smile and happy as a kid, reminded her of their first years of marriage together. The time that they were still young and adventurous, carefree and ambitious.
It was also the time that he slowly fell in love with her, which was know a somehow famous family story, as told by their children to their own little ones: the American princess fell first, but the English prince fell in love greater than he thought he would.
And 40 years later, he still loves her so, more and more since realizing his true feelings to her.
Oh, how lucky of a man he was.
Robert then slowly walks up to her as she giggled happily when she noticed him. He then ever so gently moves some of the strands of wet hair away from her beautiful face, and smiles lovingly.
"You will get sick, you know." he teased, making her giggle more and wraps her arms around his neck.
"Then we'll both get sick together." she quipped, making him chuckle this time.
He then gently cups her cheek, and pulls her for a slow and sweet kiss under the rain. She smiles as they kissed and runs her fingers through his salt and pepper hair, tiptoeing a little as she held him closer. They then slowly pulled away for air, and gently rest their foreheads against each other, with him gently brushing her nose with his.
"You alright?" he asked softly.
Cora nods her head, smiling "Did you know that was our first kiss under the rain?" she said, making him a bit surprised.
"Really?" he said, before chuckling softly again "Well, I suppose we can cross that out on our bucket list now."
She laughs softly and gives another quick kiss before resting her head on his chest "Yes, we definitely should." she smiles "And we should definitely call Mary after our shower. Tell her we won't be coming in tomorrow."
"But what about your meeting?" her husband inquired.
"I'll have it move to Friday."
"Good." Robert said, before planting a kiss on top of her head "So, shall we watch Star Trek now?"
Cora chuckles and looks at him as she pulls away from their hug "I prefer Star Wars."
He sighs softly, and smiles "Very well. Star Wars it is." he said, taking her hand as they head back inside to dry and take a shower.
"Star Trek is still way better than Star Wars, though. Just saying."
"I thought we were not going bring this debate up again."
"I am just stating my opinion!"
As the rain continued pouring heavily, both of them were silently thankful for the sweet moment that had just happened…
...even though it might end up in them both getting sick the next day.
