Lily, James, Regulus and Harry sat around the fire. Harry sits on James' lap as they stay hidden in their safe house with Peter as their secret keeper. It was Sirius' idea to have Peter as the secret keeper since he who should not be named would never expect Peter to be trusted with a secret that could affect the war. Plus even if he was taken to find the location of the Potters and Black he would tell the death eaters since they were close friends throughout Hogwarts. Right?
Regulus was already assumed dead and that he was killed by the death eaters two years ago.
He was going to die. The only reason he survived was because Kreacher came to Jame one night and said Reg was in trouble and said if they didn't hurry Reg would die. James and Sirius got there right before Regulus ran out of air. There were still complications where they didn't think Reg was going to make it. In the end though it was ok, other than the nightmares and hate of unexpected touch.
Everyone thinks Regulus is dead. The only people who knew he was alive was James, Lily, Sirius, Remus, Peter, and Dumbledore, much to Regulus dismay.
The three of them knew the danger they were currently in because of the dark lord looking for them and that he won't stop till he finds them and kills them and Harry. But they acted as if nothing was wrong and that they were a normal family. They sit by the fireplace as they read and watch the fire.
"I think it's time to put Harry to bed. What do you think of Harry?" James says out of nowhere.
"But dadda I down't want to go wo bed." Harry complained as he yawned.
"I think it's time for bed for you. You can't even keep your eyes open." Lily says as she picks up Harry off of James's lap.
Just as Regulus was about to say something the front door banged open. "Lily take Harry and run" Reg yells as he grabs his wand when they see a hooded figure come through the door. Lily takes Harry and runs upstairs. "James, go with them. Save yourselves. I will give you guys as much time as I can."
Regulus and James POV
"I'm not leaving you Reg." James told Reg. But James doesn't have his wand. "We can slow him down together." Both are already accepting death knowing that they were going to die tonight.
"Regulus Black. You were supposed to have died two years ago. You are a traitor to your family and to me." The Dark Lord states. "You will die like all other traitors."
"Yeah I faked my death. But I'm no traitor since I never wanted to be a part of your little group." Regulus responds as he points his wand defensively at the dark lord.
"If you want to kill Regulus, you are going to have to kill me first." James States as he protectively stands in front of Regulus even though he doesn't have his wand.
"Oh that's the plan. But I plan on having Regulus kill you so I can break him before I kill him." Before James and Regulus could process what he said the dark lord pointed his wand at Regulus and " Imperio."
Before the spell took over Regulus whispered "no". Before he lost all control of his body but he could still see and hear what was happening, but he had no control over anything he did. It was like he was watching a movie through his eyes.
"Regulus I know your strong break out of it."
"Oh, did he never tell you? The imperius curse is one of the few the Black could not stop/ break out of on his own. His parents used it more often than you might think. There is a lot you don't know about Regulus. But he's not the only one you don't truly know. Peter for example. He's been a death eater since before Regulus' supposed death. He gave me your guy's location willingly. He gave it to me without any incentive." The dark Lord left out a cackle that left a chill that ran through James's spine. He turned toward Regulus, frozen in time. "Regulus, I need you to show James what your parents did to you the fateful night Sirius left you behind to go to his house."
Regulus turned his body so that he was facing James, turning his wand from the dark lord towards James. And whispered "Crucio" James felt like white hot knives were stabbing him all over his body.
"I think that's enough Regulus." Just as it had started it ended. "Now James, that was only part of what Regulus suffered that night. Now Regulus, kill Potter."
"Reg. Baby. I don't blame you. It'll all be ok." James says while he kneels in front of Regulus. "I will see you again someday."
"Do it now!" The Dark Lord shouted at Regulus.
With Reg's wand still pointed at James he whispered the dreaded spell "Avada Kedavra" A green light shot straight at…
James.
As soon as it hit him the light in his eyes vanished and the Dark Lord released Regulus from his control. As soon as he was able to move on his own he went straight to James. "James no please no. I'm so sorry if I was stronger you would still be alive." Regulus realized that he must take as much time as he can so that Lily and Harry can get out. He stood up and faced the Dark Lord. "You will pay for what you did."
"I didn't do anything, it was all you. You tortured James. You killed him. Not me. The only person you can blame is yourself. Just like the rest of your life. It was your fault your brother left you. You're the reason for your parents' disappointment. Just like Lily and Harry's death is going to be on you as well."
"Shut up. You know nothing." Regulus launched himself at the dark lord. Manic in his eyes.
Before Regulus reached him. The dark lord pointed his wand towards Regulus. "Avada Kedavra." A green light shot Regulus back towards James making him fall right next to him. Where they both laid dead to the world. The Dark Lord walked over both the bodies to get to Lily and Harry.
Lily and Harry POV
As soon as Regulus told Lily to take Harry and run she knew he was planning on sacrificing himself for them. Even though she didn't agree with what he was doing there she knew there was nothing she could do to stop him. Lily knew her James and Regulus were not getting out but she could do as much as she could to make sure Harry made it.
When she reached the nursery all she could hear was small mumbles. Then out of nowhere she heard James scream out from pain and at that second she thought that maybe the two of them would be able to buy them enough time to run past the protective boulder and escape to Sirius. But as soon as she looked out the window she saw that there were death eaters surrounding the house.
There was no escape.
Then as soon as James screamed started they ended. Lily knew that James and Regulus were both already dead. She knew that the dark lord was going to be up there any second to end her and Harry.
They could barely hear anything. Until out of nowhere Lily heard the Dark Lord Scream "Do it now!" Then a thud was heard. Then another one a couple minutes later.
Lily knew at that point they were for sure dead and she only had a couple minutes left. She turned toward Harry and whispered to him "Be brave, Harry. Mama loves you. Dada loves you. Papa loves you." As soon as she finished the door was broken down. Lily turns towards the door standing protectively over Harry.
"I only want the boy. You can move to the side and live. I only want to kill your son." The Dark Lord told Lily.
"You'll have to kill me before I let you touch a hair on Harry's head."
"That's unfortunate you were such a strong witch. If only you were a pureblood." The dark lord raised his wand pointing it straight at lily. "Avada Kedavra" Lily's body fell to the ground. Away from Harry's crib.
Once she was dead multiple cracks were heard from the death eaters leaving.
The Dark Lord turned his wand to Harry knowing now that his followers apparated inside of the protective spell the order would be here any second. So without stopping "Avada Kedavra". A green light shot straight at Harry.
The spell bounced back towards the caster killing him on impact.
Sirius POV
As soon as Sirius received a distress signal from the Potter's residence he knew that Peter betrayed them. He apparated to the Potter's house right after he found his wand.
When he got there he saw the door already blown off. He runs inside the house to see…
James and Regulus laying together on the ground.
Dead
By the looks of it Regulus was thrown from one spot and landed next to James.
Both of his brothers were lying there dead. No more pranks with Jame. No more sibling bickering with Regulus. No more of those two annoying flirting between them and Lily. Now they just are dead. And there was nothing Sirius could do about it. Maybe if he was faster. Or maybe if they didn't change secret keepers from Sirius to the traitor.
When Sirius reached them he broke down hanging onto both of them. Hope by some chance that it was all a dream or illusion. That they were alive and they would walk in and be like Sirius what are you doing we're right here.
They never did.
They stayed dead.
Then Sirius heard crying from upstairs. It sounded like his godson Harry. As soon as he heard him he ran up the stairs to see him with Hagrid. "Hey Hagrid, what are you doing here?"
"Dumbledore sent me to come check and see if Harry was he was I was to meet him at Harry's Aunt's place."
"You mean the aunt that treated Lily horribly because she was a witch? If Harry stays there it's going to be horrible for him in the long run."
"Dumbledore said.."
"Scew what Dumbledore said. He convinced us to change secret keepers to Peter and look where it got us. My brother went to him for help and he told him that there was nothing he could do. He knew what was happening to me and Reg in that house and he still made us go back. He is going to do the same thing to Harry."
"Don't say that about Dumbldore. Dumbledore is a great man. I have orders to take Harry. I'm sorry Sirius but I can't let you have him."
"Fine, but Dumbledore is not the person you think he is. That was the one thing my family got right. Don't trust Dumbledore. Goodbye Hagrid. You can take my bike. I don't need it anymore." Sirius Accioed his bike to the Potters place. "Even though I don't agree with where he is going, he will get there safely." Hagrid left Sirius in the Potter's house.
Sirius knew he had to get revenge on Peter even if it was the last thing he ever did.
