She didn't have her abilities anymore, but she needed to go somewhere that wasn't Mystic Falls, for the moment. So, while Damon was the only one home, she decided to go to him. He may not like her much, but she knew he'd help her. She knew there was a part of him that didn't want her to die. And she figured she was right, because after a conversation in his living room, he agreed to help her to an extent. And so, she started herself a new life where no one else knew who she really was. What she was capable of, truly when given the opportunity. And from that moment on, nobody she knew had spoken to her. She hadn't seen or heard from them in a long time. Not after she'd worked with Freya to get herself an amulet that would keep her from aging. She'd first stumbled across her, when Freya had been a prisoner to Dahlia. She'd been the one to help her find her family she was desperate to find at the time. Kat, being not very old back then, still had a lot of compassion to give. She felt sorry for her. She knew what it was like to lose both a child and your family. And so, she'd taught her the night she'd found her, their patterns so that she could someday, when she got the chance to do so, reunite with them. She could never have her mother back, but that didn't mean she wanted someone else to suffer like she had. And from then on, although she'd been too busy to keep tabs, she and Freya had become friends. That's how she knew Freya. Her siblings just didn't know it./p

That's when everything happened so fast. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but unlike the times she'd been a vampire and the first time she'd been a human, it was different. There were no supernatural creatures. Just humans. Stuff like this had never happened in this little town before, so she hadn't expected it. Because of that, nearly everyone including herself, had gotten hurt./p
