Another fic for this year's nuts and dolts week, this one for the prompt domestic bliss. Set post-canon. Enjoy!
Some days are so bright and beautiful and sunny that even the most dark, gloomy person can't help but be tempted out into the sunshine, feeling the fog lift and a smile come to their face despite themselves.
Today is not one of those days. An enormous storm has rolled in overnight. Today the sky is pitch black with dark clouds, only occasionally lit up for a second or two with flashes of lightning before plunging the world back into darkness once more. Torrents of rain quickly soak anything left outside at the weather's mercy. It's a very gloomy scene, indeed.
But inside the little house where Ruby and Penny lay in bed, it's safe and warm and cozy. Both of them lay under the covers, in no hurry to get out of bed and start the day. The room is dark and still and quiet. Neither of them want to break the spell.
"I love the sound of rain," Penny murmurs sleepily. "It's soothing. The sound of the earth replenishing itself."
Ruby reaches out under the covers to take her hand. "I love it too," she replies, whispering. "A perfect day to just relax and stay in bed."
Neither of them need to say anything more. They just simply bask in the warmth and security of each other's presence, while outside, the storm rages on.
