Bright rays of light shone into Peters eyes, waking him from his short lived peace. He stretched while yawing and heard a loud crack in his back. The concrete roof was probably not the best place to sleep without something soft.

He had used his backpack as a pillow, but that just contributed to the discomfort of sleeping on concrete.

It took a moment for him to place where he was, but he quickly realized that he was on top of a tall building.

Right.

He was supposed to be at the Avengers Tower working with Mr. Stark. Aunt May thought he was at the tower, so she wouldn't be suspicious that he wasn't there. That was good. If he could make Aunt May happy and less stressed, he would do anything.

She is happier without you

Mr. Stark doesn't want YOU

The voice was right, Peter assumed. Mr. Stark had cancelled so many of their sessions that there was no way he would actually want to spend time with him. It was also right that Aunt May would be much happier when he was not there.

Suddenly, his phone buzzed. Mr. Stark's name popped onto the screen. Great. He was probably calling to thank Peter for not coming, but Peter picked up anyways.

"PETER BENJAMIN PARKER WHERE ARE YOU" Mr. Stark's voice boomed out of the phone and Peter winced.

"H-hey Mr. Sta-" Peter started to greet him but was cut off by a hiss from his mentor.

"Where. are. you. Happy told me that you didn't come to his car yesterday. I called May and she told me you never showed up."

Shit

Peter didn't think Mr. Stark would care enough to call Aunt May and ask where he was. Was he worried about Peter?

No

He just wants to make Aunt May happy by pretending

Peter's voice was small when he responded

"I thought you would be happy I didn't come. No one is happy when I'm around..."

He had stood up now, pacing across the roof. He hadn't wanted to make Aunt May and Mr. Stark worried. He just wanted to make them happy!

Mr. Stark's voice softened at Peter's response.

"Underoos?"

When Peter didn't respond, he kept talking.

"We all love you so much. You are like a son to me and I can't imagine what would happen if I lost you. You made my life so much better. Your aunt and I want you to be as happy as you can and give you the world. I love you Pete"

Peter felt tears welling up in his eyes. He wanted to believe him with all of his heart but he couldn't. The voice in his head was growing louder. It was starting to scare him and he wanted them gone.

He's lying Peter

Everyone hates you

He walked up to the edge of the building and looked down. He was on top of a building that towered at least twenty stories above the road.

Jump

No one will miss you

Aunt May will be happy without having to care for you

These thoughts were scary. He wanted to believe that people did care for him, but there was absolutely no way. He was pretty sure Mr. Stark had more important things to do than babysit him. Maybe if he did jump, all the problems would go away. Aunt May and Mr. Stark wouldn't have to take care of him and his classmates would no longer have to put up with such a loser in class.

"I got your location Peter. I'm coming."

Peter jumped slightly, he had gotten lost in his thoughts and forgotten about the older man on the other end of the call.

He took a breath and replied hesitantly

"You don't have to."

"I'm coming down to the road"

Then he hung up.

Peter took another step forwards, now inches away from falling to the ground and becoming a spidey-pancake.

You are about to make everyone's life so much better

He didn't know if he really wanted to. But the voice was right, wasn't it? He had listened to it for so long. Why not continue listening?

He took one look around, taking in what was probably his last view of the world.

Buildings sparkled with lights all around him and the sun seemed to shine directly at him. It was pretty, he thought. A good last view.

With a final breath, Peter hiked the backpack up his back and stepped off the roof.

The crisp morning air rushed around him as he fell. It felt like he was just doing another free-fall while patrolling. But this time he wouldn't catch himself.

Little did he know, he wouldn't have to

Back at the tower

Peter had not shown up yesterday and Tony was starting to freak out. He called May and asked her if she he was with her. He wasn't.

Tony had planned for Peter to meet the rest of the Avengers, and they had been ecstatic to meet the boy Tony was always talking about. Even Natasha had smiled a little when Tony said he was going to come over that weekend.

He had felt horrible about being called away from their time together so often. There was always something new for him to take care of. It was mostly mission that he was being called away on, but there had been a couple of times where there was an accident between his friends. Accident meaning training had went a little bit too far and Tony of all people had to help.

Aside from that, Peter had seemed distant for weeks now and wouldn't tell him what was wrong. He had called May to ask her, but she was swamped with work and never picked up.

Tony had stayed up almost all night attempting to contact Peter. He didn't pick up a single call until around six in the morning. He immediately started looking for the location of Peter's phone.

When Peter answered the call, Tony's voice came out loud and harsh. A little bit harsher than he meant. But his intern knew better than to leave without notifying anyone. He was usually so exited to come to the tower!

"PETER BENJAMIN PARKER WHERE ARE YOU"

Tony heard a sharp intake of air from the other side of the line before Peter answered.

"H-hey Mr. Sta-"

He hadn't said "Hello Peter." He had asked where he is. Tony was usually decent at controlling his emotions, but his voice immediately turned quiet and angry.

"Where. are. you. Happy told me that you didn't come to his car yesterday. I called May and she told me you never showed up."

"I thought you would be happy I didn't come. No one is happy when I'm around..."

This sent a stab of pain through his chest. He hated to hear that his boy, Spider-Man, thought that no one liked him. Peter was anything but right. He was the opposite of happy that Peter was not there. He was worried. A wave of dread passed through him. Something was wrong.

Peters location finally popped up on screen. It was 7 minutes by car and 2 minutes by suit. The other Avengers could wait for him. Peter was all that mattered in that moment.

Tony pressed a small button the side of his desk and stood up as his suit flew up to him. He stepped into the armor and started leaving the tower. He closed his eyes and took a breath before asking, "Underoos?"

When Peter didn't respond, he kept talking.

"We all love you so much. You are like a son to me and I can't imagine what would happen if I lost you. You made my life so much better. Your aunt and I want you to be as happy as you can and give you the world. I love you Pete"

This was the truth. Tony cared for Peter like his own son and wanted him to have the best life he could imagine. The part about Peter making his life better was also true. When they first met, Tony had been going through a very rough patch of his life. He could barely get himself out of bed in the morning and always seemed drained of energy. Peter had changed that. He was always saying something that could make Tony smile of laugh. The pure joy of the kid had also made Tony happier. He could not let his kid get hurt.

There was no answer from Peter for a long stretch of silence. Tony decided that he should tell Peter he was almost there.

"I got your location Peter. I'm coming. I'm almost there"

He could now see the outline of a boy standing on the roof of a huge building.

He looked like he was going to jump. The panic that had been rising in Tony's chest finally got to him. He urged the suit to go faster. He HAD to get to Peter before it was too late.

The next words that Peter spoke sent chills down Tony's spine.

"You don't have to."

"I'm coming down to the road"

He hung up. Peter Parker had just hung up on Tony Stark. That didn't matter though.

Tony muttered to himself as he angled himself upwards, preparing to catch Peter. He knew that if he decided to jump, there was no way he would get to the top before he could fall.

Then he jumped.

Peter fell towards the suit as Tony rushed up to him. He opened his arms to catch Peter and grunted with the impact of the boy's body. Peter may have been light, but the force that they collided with was enough to make Tony work a little.

Peter looked up into the eyes of his mentors suit. He looked guilty and sad.

"I'm sorry Mr. Stark"

Tony looked down into Peter's watering eyes.

"No, no, nooo... Underoos. Why would you be sorry?"

Peter looked confused. He must have thought the answer was obvious.

"Because you had to come get me. You really don't have to take care of me. You could have let me fall"

These words split Tony's heart another time. Peter thought that he didn't want to take care of him. Peter wanted to die. He didn't know what to say for a moment, but replied softly,

"Pete, everyone loves you and wants you around. I want to spend as much time as possible with you."

Peter looked down and his face crumpled. He sobbed into Tony's chest and clung onto the suit, talking incoherently though his tears.

They were almost at the tower when F.R.I.D.A.Y spoke into the suit's helmet.

"Steve is wondering where you are sir. Would you like me to notify him?"

Tony said no. They were almost back anyways and he could explain once he got Peter settled down.

Peter was still clinging to Tony when he strode (idk if "strode" is a real word) into the building. Tony ignored the AI and started to the elevator.

He was taking Peter to his room, but that meant walking right past the rest of the team. That was fine. Just as long as they didn't ask questions until he got Peter settled down.

He pressed the button for the 90th floor and stood firmly as the elevator rushed upwards.
