The snow was falling very heavily that day . Three young adults walk up to a small hut with two windows, double doors, and nothing else. The first to approach is wearing a red arm band. She hunches down in front of the first window. She keeps her pistol pointed downward, sweating profusely. A young man with a white armband then walks up to the right window and draws his sword. A third young man with a black arm band, a bear faunus, approaches the doors and pulls out claw-like weapons. Clearly eager and prepared to fight.
"Hold," a fourth young man said, pointing a powerful sniper rifle at the wall. He kept his sight pointed at that wall, as if he knew where everyone was inside. However, he could only hope the wall was thin enough to shoot through. So if these shots didn't go through, this mission was over.
"Hold," he said again, dragging the final "d" a little longer this time. He pulls the trigger unexpectedly, shooting through the wall. Both the Red and White break their windows and jump into the hut. Black shatters the doors and breaks in with them. Both Red and White take down the guards by the door, who were caught off guard by their fallen comrade who fell behind them. White thrusts his sword through two men. Slashing them across the chest and stomach as quickly as possible. Black attempts to imitate him, but he is faster and less coordinated in his attempts to kill three of his opponents in front of him. Red throws her pistol at the first adversary, striking him in the head. She pulls down on its long string, causing the gun to fall down diagonally, shooting the guard in the stomach and returning the pistol to her hand. She spins around the hunched-over guard and shoots and knocks over the second guard.
"Target has taken off. He jumped into something and is now sliding down," the comm said.
"I'm going!" Yelled Red.
"No wait R!" However, it was too late. Red had already descended the shoot and began following their target. Red landed on the ground kneeling. Before she had time to breathe there were already two guards pointing heavy weapons at her.
"Drop your weapons! Now!" one guard said. Red rose slowly, holding the first gun in the air. Her second hand took her second weapon and did the same thing. She noticed that these guards were wearing special armor. They might be the bounties they were looking for. But there was no time to think that way. She dropped both of her pistols without warning, and they both went off. Both shots hit their intended targets, but the right pistol hit the guard's shoulder and the left pistol hit the guard's chest. She turned to the right guard and drew both guns back, swinging the twin pistols like nunchucks. Red swung them around, and every time they struck the ground, a shot managed to land on her opponent. Red was spinning her pistols around faster and faster. Her two opponents were hit from different angles by each of her shots. Each pistol was tossed and, at precisely the correct moment, was pulled on or struck against something in order to shoot. After what seemed like an eternity, the firing ceased. Red was exhaling hard as she lowered her pistols. She couldn't move and couldn't see straight. The target she had been chasing surprised her and struck Red straight in the jaw, knocking her over.
Their target finally spoke as he leveled his revolver at Red, "Let your friends know that today will not be the day you almost caught the grand ca-" . His words were cut off as the bullet passed through his chest and fell with a thump.
"God damnit Saira I told you not to go!" Yellow shouted. "I told you no. And here I am to save you yet again."
Saira stayed laying on the floor, "He was getting away. Do you know how much is on this guy? Two million Lien. That's more than what we need. And you tell me to 'Not go after him?'"
"Khan, take off that guy's mask."
Saira laughed, but it was an anxious smile, "Haha wait no Khan, don't take off that mask."
Khan removed the mask, revealing an AK-130 Knight below. "Would you look at that?" he said.
You know the rules," Khan explained. "If you lose the target, you pay the bounty."
Saira could only smile and giggle uneasily, as if she needed time to think of a solution. "Well, what about those two guards?" Come on, Hobie, those other guys should cover that money, right? Two high-ranking security guards in a criminal organization? I'd say they're quite expensive."
When White did speak, he sounded like a snake and said, "Hobie, just tell her the truth."
"Relax Saira, you won't have to pay us back. We're gonna be at Beacon soon. Besides you'd kill yourself trying to pay all that back AND school. So let's just chill."
Saira had stood up at this point. "Screw you guys for all knowing this and not telling me," she began marching out of the compound. "You know, I could have died. And because I'm not your little sister, I'm going to tell each of you that you're a dick." Saira couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the scenario. "Myst. You're a dick," She turned to Khan and said, "Khan, you're a dick."
"That's racist. Would you really kick a lowly faunus down while he's just trying to do a job" Khan hid his smile. In fact, Saira could see them all smiling. Everyone was in good spirits just to complete the mission, even if there was less reward for not bringing them in alive.
"And you Hobie. You're a dick"
"OK, I know I know. Let's get back to the ship. Grim will be here very soon, and I intend to sell this ship when we arrive in Vale, so I will be very disappointed if she is scratched."
"Khan, get the primers ready. And Saira, go ahead and double check if the fuel gauge is still working properly," Hobie walked over to Myst, "Myst, I saw you take a hit down there. Are you alright? Do we need to take you to the town's doctor?"
"I'm fine." Myst replied quickly.
"Myst, I'm serious. You have to be at your best in a few days. I don't want this slowing you down."
Myst thought for a long moment, "Yeah, it hurts. One of them only skimmed my arm. I can still use my sword."
Khan came back into the room and laughed, "HA, I thought all the attention was on me. I can't believe they actually shot you. Especially with these stupid hot coats," in a flash of passion, he hurled the coat to the ground.
"We'll be there in about 4 hours. So just hang tight. Hey Saira, get up here and help me fly."
Myst had gone to lay down, while Khan went to watch after him. Hobie just had to keep the ship straight and keep things in check. Saira was just there in case something happened to Hobie.
"So, I was thinking about Beacon." Saira said.
"Yeah? What about?" Hobie flipped a switch above them, turning on the autopilot.
"Well, I wanted to know the plan. I read from prior years we'd be able to make our own teams. I know I'm younger but you said it before, we have the makings of a solid squad. You haven't said anything yet.
Hobie stayed quiet, looked forward and pretended to fly the ship. Khan had walked in after hearing the conversation and put a hand on Saira's shoulder. "Look, kid. We like you and…" Khan's voice tapered off.
Hobie spoke up, "Listen, you're just as strong as us. And probably even stronger. But we have a lot more growth we gotta do. And we'd be a good team, but we all have weaknesses that we have to improve. We've all known each other for two years, and maybe that's not enough time to learn everything, but we've agreed to let fate decide where we end up ok."
Saira was stunned. Finally she was able to speak up, "This is fucked. You know that right? We've been in this fight for I don't know, probably more than two years. We've barely survived, we've watched each other's backs, we've saved the day time and time again and this is it? We're a family! You can't just abandon me! I refuse to fucking be left behind!"
"I'm sorry Saira."
The ship was silent. Everyone knew this was the best choice to make for themselves. But no one, except Saira, wanted to admit that they loved each other. But that's what love is sometimes. Pushing people to be better so that they can grow.
Saira went over to her bed in the wall and turned towards the wall but all she could think was that she truly wanted the best for everyone.
Chapter 1. Team HKMS
Welcome everybody to my fanfiction. I've had this idea back since 2016 and I never wrote a fanfiction before (I'm an accounting person. I'm not very good at writing but I'm trying to learn) and I finally had the time and motivation to get this done. Funny enough I had some plot lines I made that are introduced in RWBY in later seasons (I started drafting in season 3). So let me know if you have any comments, tips, or anything of the sorts.
