Marinette hummed to herself as she waited for the milk to boil. She felt restless tonight, so she was making hot chocolate to help her sleep. Suddenly, Marinette got a idea. "Hey, Nikki?" Her Kwami looked at her, rubbing her sleepy eyes. "Yes?" "How about we go surprise Adrien with a hot chocolate?"
"Marinette, Adrien's probably asleep like you should be. Let's go in the morning." "Aw, please? Just for a bit?" Marinette pleaded. "I'll make a batch of chocolate peanut butter chip cookies in the morning." Nikki pondered this, licking her lips. She did like cookies. "Okay, but just a for a bit." Marinette swooped up her Kwami. "Thank you!"
Fifteen minutes later, hot chocolate safety secured in a thermos, Ladybug dashed across the rooftops. The moon lit her way, but it couldn't match the smile glowing on the young girl's face.
Ladybug landed on the roof next to the mansion. Hm, Adrien's light was off, but that didn't mean he wasn't awake, did it? One way to find out!
She landed with a gentle thump! And looked around the room. "Adrien?" she called, softly. Then she heard a snoring sound, followed by another sound she couldn't place. She walked towards the bed, her heart melting. There was Adrien, fast asleep, golden hair rumpled, but yet so perfect…
He must be asleep already. Maybe I should just….Ladybug was about to go, when she squinted at Adrien in the darkness. Was that something on his head? And was it moving? "Wait, is that a…" Ladybug gasped, covering her mouth.
The creature turned over, showing its sharp little teeth and little body. "A RAT!" Ladybug shrieked.
Before she could think, Ladybug launched herself at the bed and at the small creature. The breath was knocked out of her as she landed on the bed with oof! Ew, ew, ew! Why did it have to be in Adrien's hair of all places?! Was it sleeping there? Her sudden leap causes Adrien to sit up in bed, instantly blushing when he saw Ladybug spread across him holding Plagg in a fist hold.
Now that she had the horrid in her clutches, Ladybug looked up into the eyes of Adrien Agreste. Oh, milk and sugar! This is not that evening she had planned on spending with her crush! Adrien's face was as red as her suit, and he wore the look of horror.
Oh, no, no, no! Adrien must think she was trying to leap on him, not leap on the rat. Could she just turned invisible now? "Can't breathe," the creature coughed. "It talks?" Ladybug shrieked. "Of course, I talk. Now, do you have any cheese?"
"Adrien, there's a rat in your bed, and it talks!" Ladybug turned to him. "Little Bug, its fine. Let him go." Plagg, who was tired of being held, came a small chomp. "Ow!" Ladybug nursed her hand, as the creature flew into the darkness. "Maybe I should go," Ladybug squeaked. She leaped from the bed, running to the window.
"I left you a thermos of hot chocolate. Bug Out!" Before Adrien could say anything, Ladybug was gone. Maybe this was a dream? But no, Plagg came flying over with a stinky piece of cheese. "Would you like some cheese to go with chocolate?" "What just happened?" Adrien mumbled, ignoring Plagg, and plopping down on the pillow. Two seconds later, he was fast asleep.
Plagg flew into his cupboard, chomping cheese. Ladybug thought he was a rat, and not a Kwami. Well, maybe it was for the best.
When Marinette got home, Nikki stared at her. "Yeah, I know. I don't always need to be a hero, but what was that thing? Ugh!"
"Teaches me to go to Adrien's in the middle of the night." "Yep. Hopefully, he'll think it was just a dream."
At school, Adrien did think it was a dream, and he told Marinette all about it at lunch. Whew, crisis inverted! But next time she went to Adrien's, she would make sure there weren't any rats about! She was sure she had seen one on Adrien's head. "Adrien, you don't have any pets, do you?" she asked. Adrien tilted his head. "No. Why?"
Marinette stood, wanting to flee. "No reason! Bye!"
