"Come on Beca, it's just one party. You don't even have to show your face because you will be wearing a mask." Stacie said to her best friend. Stacie's girlfriend Aubrey had invited them to come to a masquerade ball. The party is tomorrow night, and she really wanted her best friend to go.
"Stacie, this is one of my only free nights for the next month. You know I'm about to start on Taylor's album." Beca replied to her best friend. Beca was a successful music producer, and she was currently living with her best friend in LA. They moved out there five years ago after they finished college. Beca got a dual degree in Music Theory and Business. She wants to own her own label one day, but she was under her final year of her contract so she couldn't do anything yet.
But the two best friends agreed to live together, even though they could both afford their own place. Stacie got a job as a model, and she was doing very well for herself. She met Aubrey at a company party three years later. Turns out Aubrey is a lawyer that her company hires in case any legal issues come up. The two girls hit it off right away, they started dating lately shortly after and it was going well.
Stacie introduced Aubrey to Beca a few months into their relationship and they weren't the best of friends. Aubrey thought Beca was too alternative and hated her ear monstrosities. Beca just thought Aubrey was an uptight control freak, but she could see how much she meant to Stacie, so she tried to be polite around the blonde.
"This is more of a reason to go. Listen we will even get you a good mask that covers most of your face nobody will even recognize you. Please Beca do it for me." Stacie once again was pleading with her best friend.
With a huff Beca finally caved. "Ugh fine Stacie I'll go. But I am not staying the entire time." Beca begrudgingly said. Stacie squealed and jumped on Beca thanking her for coming to the part. "Beca, we need to go shopping to get you a mask and dress to match." Stacie excited announced as she is pulling Beca out the door.
The two girls went to a Halloween store where they searched for masks. They didn't find any that Beca liked, and they were just about to leave when Beca spot something out of the corner of her eye. It was this medium purple shade, and had just a enough glitter that it didn't get on her nerves. It was a larger mask that would cover most of her face, just like she wanted. She asked the employee if she could see it.
The employee just too it out and handed it to Beca and she tried it on. "Oh my gosh Beca you look so beautiful with that mask. If I wasn't with you, I wouldn't have even recognized you. You can only see the bottom half of your face." Stacie said when Beca looked at her. "It fits pretty comfortably, and I do like the color, I think I'll buy it." Beca said out loud, although she already knew she was going to buy it once she saw it.
Beca paid for her mask, and they left to go to a different store to find a dress. They searched everywhere until they found this perfect light purple ballgown to go with the mask. Stacie was thinking Beca was going to look like a princess with this outfit.
Meanwhile Aubrey is talking with her best friend Chloe about the party. "So, have you decided if you are bringing Chicago to the party tomorrow night? Are you still planning on coming tomorrow? You know this party is going to be awesome." Aubrey stated as a matter of fact to her friend.
"Yes, Bree I'm still coming to the party. I just found the mask I am going to wear tomorrow the other day. As far as bringing Chicago I don't think he will be able to make it. We have kinda hit a rough patch in our relationship and I don't know if it is working anymore. We are both growing apart and not really making the effort, but I still care about him Bree. I don't know what to do." Chloe ended with her eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
"You know I am not his biggest fan and I think you can do better than him, but I will always support whatever you do. Just don't let him bring you down and enjoy the party. There will be plenty of people there. Stacie is coming and she said something about bringing her best friend." Aubrey said trying to cheer up her best friend.
Chloe had met Stacie several times and really liked the tall brunette. She was exactly what her best friend needed in her life, but she never heard Stacie mention her best friend. Now Chloe was wondering why that is, even Aubrey never mentioned her until now. "Hey Bree, why have I never heard of Stacie's best friend before? I just think that is kind of weird, you and Stacie have been dating for almost two years." Chloe questioned.
Aubrey stopped and was thinking about Chloe's question. She was trying to come up with a vague response. Aubrey knew Beca was a big-time music producer, and her privacy was extremely important to her. When Aubrey first met her, she had to sign an NDA form. So, she knew keeping Beca's secret was a must if she wanted to keep Stacie around. Stacie told Aubrey countless of stories when she mentions that Beca is her best friend and people start trying to use her to get to Beca, so she quit talking about it. Aubrey also knew how much Chloe was obsessed with the music Beca put out, so she didn't want to add any additional stress to her relationship.
"Oh well, that is because she is hardly around, but she will be so Stacie thought maybe she would come. I don't think it is that weird Chloe. There was just no reason to bring it up." Aubrey stated while shrugging her shoulder. Chloe still thought it was a little weird but left the topic alone.
The next day Beca came home exhausted from work and intending to have just a nice quiet evening. When she walked through the day, she saw Stacie getting ready for the part. "Come on Beca the party is going to start in 2 hours you need to shower and get ready." Stacie said when she saw her best friend. "Ugh, I forgot that was tonight. I know I bought everything, but I just had a rough day at work. I just want to stay home." Beca said knowing Stacie wasn't going to let her pass on the night.
"Nope you promised me Beca and plus it's free alcohol so you can drink as much as you want. I just want you to stay for two hours tops, if that will make you feel better. Then you can come home and be a lazy person." Stacie commented and Beca perked up at Stacie mentioning only being there for two hours.
"Well, what are you waiting for, let's get going so I can get this over with." Beca ran to her room and hopped in the shower. Stacie just chuckled at her friend and returned to getting ready herself. Stacie bought a black mask that only covered her eyes and cheeks. She sent Aubrey a picture of her mask once she bought it, so the blonde knew what she was going to look like.
It was now time for the girls to leave and just as Stacie predicted Beca looked like a princess. "Wow Beca you sure do know how to clean up." Stacie said to her best friend. "Thanks Conrad, but for some reason I feel like one of those princesses. Just waiting for my prince charming to rescue me. But let's get going so I can hurry up and come back home to sleep." Beca enthusiastically said and they went out to the car. They rode in Beca's dodge hell cat so they could arrive in style.
Beca and Stacie arrived later than Stacie would have liked but that didn't seem to matter. When they walked in nobody seemed to notice, Stacie went looking for Aubrey while Beca was just walking around. Beca finally found where the bar was and was making her way over when she stopped dead in her tracks. There was a woman sitting on the side of the bar with red hair. Beca saw that she wore a light blue form fitting floor length dress. Her mask was white and covered very little of her face.
Beca got knocked out of her trance when somebody bumped into her. She decided to just walk over to the opposite side of the red headed woman to see if she would notice her. Beca found her seat and ordered herself a rum and coke. While she was waiting for her drink she looked up and saw that the red head was gone. She deflated a little and didn't notice somebody was now sitting beside her.
"What did you order?" Beca heard the stranger ask her, she looked up and saw it was the red head from earlier. "Uh….uh…I… uhh….a rum and coke." Beca finally stammered out. The redhead giggled at the answer. Beca was so captivated by the crystal clear blue eyes of the woman beside her. "What are you drinking tonight." Beca said coolly once she got her thoughts together. "Oh, I'm drinking a long island. They are one of my favorites." The girl replied.
The two women started to make small talk after Beca was given her drink. They talked for an hour but somehow managed to avoid the topics of relationships, names, and professions. Something Beca was happy about because she didn't want to tell the beautiful woman in front of her who she was yet.
"So, what brings you to this party?" Beca boldly asked the girl. "Oh, my best friend asked if I wanted to come, and I love dancing, so I said yes." Chloe answered and took a sip of her drink, which was now empty. As she waved the bartender down to get another one Beca stated "You haven't done much dancing since I've been here. So, I don't think you came for that."
Chloe looked at her challengingly and asked Beca if she would like to dance. Before Beca could protest the redhead took her hand and moved her to the dance floor. Once out there a slow song started to play, Beca thought she had enough liquid courage to make it through this song. She took the redheads hand one her left hand and placed her right hand on her hip. They slow danced to the song that was playing.
Chloe was completely impressed with the smaller brunette beside her, she was acting like a real gentleman. It just made her feel guilty because she was still with Chicago. The guilt was quickly eating at her, and the brunette saw the internal struggle in her eyes. "What's wrong?" She asked her. "I have a boyfriend and I just feel like I'm cheating on him by dancing with you." The redhead replied.
Beca visible sank at hearing this, "Well then, I will let you get back to him. It was nice talking with you and sharing that dance with you." Beca turned around and quickly ran out of the room before Chloe could say anymore. Tears were spilling in Chloe's eyes as she watched the woman walk away. A few minutes later Aubrey found her. "There you are Chloe I have been looking for you all night. Where have you…Oh my gosh Chloe what's wrong." Aubrey asked in a worried voice once she saw Chloe was crying.
"I just had the best night of my life with somebody who wasn't my boyfriend and I just ruined it all by bringing him up. I was talking with this girl, and I just felt this natural pull towards her. I swear I felt like I could listen to her talk forever, then I asked her to dance. The song was a slow song, and she took the lead. It was just like a fairytale dance, but then it made me think of Chicago and how I felt like I was cheating on him with this woman I just met. But Bree, I never felt such a strong connection to anybody before, but I am no cheater." Chloe just started to sob.
Aubrey pulled her into a hug and whispered in her eye that they should go home, and that Stacie was coming with them. The drive back to their apartment was silent except for Chloe's sobs. Once they got into the house Chloe just went straight to her room.
"Wow this girl must be really something to have this much of an impact on Chloe. The worst part is that she will probably never see this girl again." Aubrey said off handedly to her girlfriend. Stacie didn't know what to say so she stayed silent and just let the night end.
Beca on the other hand when home and went straight to bed. She couldn't believe the night she had with the other woman. Her heart broke at the end when she heard she had a boyfriend but other than that she had the best night of her life. As Beca tried to sleep she keep picturing the blue eyes and red hair. She figured she wasn't going to get any sleep she got up and wrote a song.
The next day Beca walked into the Studio and met Taylor Swift." Are you ready to start recording your songs. You said you have about 5 but still need a few." Beca said to the singer. They started working on the songs and just talking about life. This brought Beca back to last night and the red head she spent time with. "Hey, have you ever met somebody and was just so captivated by them, that everything seemed like a fairytale?" Beca asked the singer. "Yea I have why do you ask?" Taylor replied curiously. "Well, that happened to me last night." Beca went on to tell Taylor about the night. The two had been friends for a while, and Beca knew she could trust her.
"I ended up writing this song for her." Beca showed Taylor the song and she instantly loved it. "Beca this must be on my album. This is so good. I think we should release it as a single." Taylor commented and Beca already knew it should be a single for whoever recorded it. "Alright Taylor, then let's get to work and make this a single so we can release it." Beca went back to the piano and the two hashed out the melody and what they wanted.
Three weeks later**
Beca finally comes home at a decent hour and Stacie is there watching some TV. "Hey Beca, how have you been. I've barely seen you since the night of the party. Did you like the party? How is working with Taylor, is she going to come over soon?" Stacie asks her best friend.
"Well, I met this girl at the party. She was so gorgeous, but I swear we had this connection. She was wearing this white mask, and light blue dress. She had red hair and these eyes that I just got lost in. We talked for hours it felt like and she asked me to dance. We danced to a slow song and then she told me she had a boyfriend. After that dance I just ran away from her. But I couldn't get her out of my head, so I wrote a song about her. Taylor has been great she even liked the song I wrote, and we are releasing it on Friday." Beca said as she made her way to the kitchen not seeing Stacie's shocked face.
"Wait you wrote a song about a stranger you just met? What is the song called? Did you get the girl's name?" Stacie quickly asked knowing as soon as Beca started describing the girl that she was talking about Chloe. "No, we didn't bring up each other's name or what we did. I didn't even know she had a boyfriend until our dance." Beca replied.
Stacie was trying to keep her cool because she wasn't sure where Chloe stood with her boyfriend but needed to talk to Aubrey first. Luckily for Stacie Aubrey was coming over that night to hang out with her and Beca. The three just sat around talking about working with Taylor, and Beca assured Aubrey that she would get to meet her. Aubrey really loved her songs and couldn't wait for that chance.
Beca said her goodnight and went to bed. "Good, now that Beca is gone I have somethings I want to ask you. How is Chloe? Is she still dating Chicago?" Stacie asked her girlfriend. "She has been so depressed since the night of the ball, she finally told me what the girl looked like." Aubrey was about to continue when Stacie cut her off. "She was wearing a purple mask that covered most of her face and a purple dress that made her look like a princess." Stacie finished for her. "Yea how did you know?" But as soon as the words left her mouth things started to make sense. "You are telling me the girl Chloe is obsessed with is Beca?" Aubrey asked and Stacie was grinning from ear to ear nodding her head." Yes, Beca just told me today about the girl and said she wrote a song about her. It is getting released on Friday. So, is Chloe still dating Chicago." Stacie asked making sure her girlfriend answered that question before things went further.
"She is breaking up with him today. She said she can't continue to be with him when the passion and fire isn't there anymore. Plus, she is still hung up on Beca. She has complained that she never got the girl's name." Aubrey said already sensing her girlfriend is coming up with a plan. "Let's not do anything until the song comes out and then based on that let's move forward. By finally having them meet." Aubrey agreed and the two went back to watching some tv and drinking some wine.
Friday rolls around and Chloe is at school with the kindergarteners. They are at recess, so Chloe has a minute to herself when she sees she has a text message from Aubrey.
From Aubrey: Hey you should check out this song from Taylor Swift. It's called Enchanted.
From Chloe: Okay, I'll check it out. What are we doing tonight?
From Aubrey: We got invited to a party, so we are going. And before you say no, you just broke up with Chicago and have been down in the dumps about this girl at the ball. You need a night out, so you are going and there is no butts about it.
From Chloe: Fine, I'll go but I will not enjoy myself.
From Aubrey: That's my best friend.
Chloe put her phone up and the kids were coming back inside. She decided to listen to the song on her way home.
It had been a long day but Chloe was finally in her car, she searched for the song on her phone and started playing it.
There I was again tonight
Forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired, lonely place
Walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy
Vanished when I saw your face
All I can say is, it was enchanting to meet you
Your eyes whispered, "Have we met?"
'Cross the room your silhouette
Starts to make its way to me
The playful conversation starts
Counter all your quick remarks
Like passing notes in secrecy
And it was enchanting to meet you
All I can say is, I was enchanted to meet you
This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you
The lingering question kept me up
2 AM, who do you love?
I wonder 'til I'm wide awake
And now I'm pacing back and forth
Wishing you were at my door
I'd open up and you would say, "Hey"
It was enchanting to meet you
All I know is, I was enchanted to meet you
This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
That this night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you
This is me praying that
This was the very first page
Not where the story line ends
My thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again
These are the words I held back, as I was leaving too soon
I was enchanted to meet you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you
This night is sparkling, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
This night is flawless, don't you let it go
I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone
I'll spend forever wondering if you knew
I was enchanted to meet you
Please don't be in love with someone else
Please don't have somebody waiting on you
Chloe was so taken aback from the song. It was like she was transported in time back to that night with the short brunette. She couldn't put her finger on it at the time, but this song summed it up perfectly for her. It made Chloe feel like this song was about that night. She keeps the song on repeat and just listened to it the rest of the way home. When she got home Aubrey was waiting for her.
"It's about time, we gotta get going. Hurry up and change, I suggest wearing that dress from the ball because this is a fancy party." Aubrey said and Chloe huffed out loud. But she went to her room and did what was suggested.
Once Chloe was ready, they headed out to the party. "Who is even throwing this party? Where are we going?" Chloe asked her best friend. This is a party to celebrate Taylor Swifts new single. Stacie got us on the guest list to attend." Aubrey said nonchalantly. "WHAT!" Chloe screeched. "How does Stacie know Taylor Swift?" she asked Aubrey. "Well, I guess it's time to tell you the truth." Aubrey said knowing they were about to pull into the parking lot.
"Well, I'm waiting" Chloe replied impatiently. But Aubrey was delaying as long as possible. She saw the tall brunette waiting for them. "I guess you can ask Stacie about it." Aubrey said and Chloe was annoyed with that response. Aubrey was just grinning at her friend.
They get out of the car and Stacie greets her girlfriend with a hug and a kiss. Then turns to Chloe to greet her. "How do you know Taylor Swift. And why did we get invited to this party?" Chloe immediately asked the tall girl. "Well, if you promise not to freak out, I'll tell you. Also, nice dress, didn't you wear that at the ball?" Stacie was quick with the reply. "Yes, I did, and I promise to not freak out." Chloe answered.
"Well, my best friend knows Taylor Swift, and she invited us to come." Stacie was prolonging the answer and Chloe knew it. "What's your best friends name Stacie? Because you never talk about her, and that seems weird to me if she is really your best friend." Chloe retorted.
Stacie just laughed because it did seem weird. "My best friend is Beca Mitchell, and she has been working on Taylor's album the past few weeks. She even wrote this song about a girl she met at a ball." Stacie said as they walked into the studio. Chloe was in such a shock at the information she didn't realize they stopped until somebody was nudging her.
Shaking her head Chloe looked to her left and saw a piece of paper and pen being given to her. She looked up confused and about to ask what it was when Aubrey stated, "it's an NDA form, I had to sign one years ago, but this is to make sure nothing gets leaked." Chloe nodded and signed her name.
The moved to the elevator and was take to the floor the party was on. Once the doors opened the people stopped and looked at them. It wasn't a huge party just a small gathering, but they were the last to arrive. Beca was busy talking with somebody when she heard Stacie calling her name. She politely excused herself and made her way over to her friend. Once she reached them, she stopped, and her jaw dropped.
In front of her was the woman she had been dreaming about. Wearing the same outfit as the night they first met. Beca didn't notice she was starting to stare until Stacie snapped her fingers in front of her. "Earth of Beca are you there?" Stacie asked her friend. Once she saw Beca recovered she continued. "As I was saying, you obviously know Aubrey, but this is Aubrey's best friend Chloe."
"Chloe." Beca said softly the name rolling off her tongue effortlessly. Stacie started to laugh at the short brunette until Beca glared at her. She then took her hand out and towards Chloe. "Hello Chloe, it is nice to finally have a name to the face. Obviously as you know by now my name is Beca." Beca finished and Chloe couldn't help but be impressed by how professional she was being.
"Let me introduce you ladies to Taylor, she should be around here somewhere." Beca was guiding all three, but her hand was behind Chloe's back ushering her to the singer. Stacie saw and nudged Aubrey to look at them. Once they got to Taylor Beca made introductions. "Hey Taylor I would like you to meet my friends, you know Stacie but this is her girlfriend Aubrey Posen, and Chloe….sorry I didn't catch your last name." Beca shyly said.
"It's Beale." Chloe gave and shook Taylor's hand. All women started talking and having a good time. When the night was coming to an end Beca convinced Taylor to perform Enchanted live. "While Taylor is getting set up, she is going to sing Enchanted live. This song was written about a girl I met at a ball one night. The whole night felt like a fairytale, and everything was perfect. That is until she told me that she was with somebody else, but even then, it never ruined the night. Ladies and gentlemen, Enchanted." Beca finished the introduction.
Taylor sang and Beca stood off to the side, but her eyes caught Chloe's. Once the performance was done and everybody was making their way to their cars Chloe asked Beca for a moment of her time. "Did you really write a song about me?" Chloe asked quietly, Beca was scratching the back of her head and replied "There are two more songs on her album that are about you beside that one. I'm sorry I just couldn't get you out of my head." Beca replied
Chloe was caught off guard by the honesty in Beca's voice. Chloe once again felt the pull that she felt that same night when her and Beca talked. Chloe softly sang "please don't be in love with someone else, please don't have somebody waiting on you." She started to sing it a little louder for Beca to hear her, and once she did Beca was confused. "Chloe, why are you singing those lines you have a boyfriend." "I broke up with him because I was so hung up on a girl I met at a ball. I never got her name, but ever since that night I couldn't stop thinking about her." Chloe said quietly.
Beca smiled like an idiot and sang the lines back to Chloe. "Please don't be in love with someone else, please don't have somebody waiting on you." As their eyes met, they both knew what was going to happen. Beca pulled Chloe into her and kissed her hard. They don't know how long they had been like that until they heard a honk. "Get a room you two crazy kids!" Stacie yelled from the car. "I'll sleeping at Bree's tonight Beca so don't do anything I wouldn't do." Then they two girls drove off.
"Well, would you like to continue this back at my place?" Beca asked Chloe. "I thought you'd never ask." Chloe said while kissing Beca again.
