October 11th 2035...

50 year old Hank Anderson opened his grayish blue eyes slowly and managed to turn to his right side, blood trailing down his forehead as he realized that the passenger side was empty and the seatbelt and windshield were broken.

"Shit!" Hank cursed, panic setting in as he unbuckled his seatbelt and forced the driver's side door open before he got out. "Leah?!" He called out frantically, unable to see anything through the dense fog and quickly switching his hazard lights back on in an attempt to signal for help.

A 2018 silver Tesla pulled over and a dark haired woman got out after grabbing a flashlight, switching it on and running to him.

"I can't find my niece, I need your help!" Hank responded.

"We're gonna find her but you need to tell me what happened." The woman replied.

"A truck lost control and hit my car… it rolled over…" Hank managed to explain as the woman aimed her flashlight towards a barely visible stop sign.

The high powered flashlight was strong enough to cut through the fog and illuminated a dent in the stop sign and blood before they ran towards Leah and crouched down to her, carefully turning her onto her back.

Hank put his right ear by Leah's mouth, relieved to hear breathing as the woman managed to get a strong enough cell phone signal and dialed 911.

"911, what's your emergency?"

"There's been a car crash at 155 Michigan Drive. Two people are injured, one's unconscious…" The woman explained before she looked at Hank, who carefully braced Leah's neck with his hands.

Leah's sapphire eyes shot open and she tried to move but Hank carefully stopped her.

"Stay still, Babydoll, help is on its way." Hank responded softly before he turned to the woman. "Thank you, Miss…"

"Morgan. Satine Morgan. Dispatcher explained that there's an ambulance nearby but their visibility is terrible because of the fog." Satine explained before they heard car tires screech to a stop and heard frantic footsteps before they saw 33 year old Gavin.

"Detective Reed to dispatch, need the nearest ambulance to hurry to 155 Michigan Drive!" Gavin replied frantically into his handheld scanner before he crouched down to Leah.

"Gavin?..." Leah responded, Gavin pulling his jacket off and putting it on her to try to keep her warm.

"You're gonna be okay, Red." Gavin replied before he turned to Hank and Satine. "What happened?! Was there another driver?!"

Satine aimed her flashlight to where Hank's car had been hit, illuminating the smashed in front end of a 2024 hunter green Ford F-150 and Gavin helping her stand up.

Satine rushed to the female driver and realized from trying to find a pulse that there wasn't any… and she ran back to where Gavin was.

"Nothing?" Gavin asked.

"DOA." Satine explained before they heard ambulance sirens and saw the lights.

When Leah was on the backboard with a neck brace on and lifted onto the stretcher, she was placed into the ambulance… and Leah saw the truck and the driver after she managed to turn her head for a second.

"Annika?!" Leah responded, trying to get off of the stretcher but one of the paramedics stopped her and Hank got into the ambulance as the doors closed… and Satine saw the distressed look on Gavin's face.

"I'll explain at the ER, we need to follow that ambulance." Gavin responded before they got into his patrol car, closed the doors and buckled up before they drove off.

At the ER in Henry Ford Hospital, Gavin had left a voicemail for Seline and then sat down as Satine looked at him.

"Annika… that name's familiar to you too?" Satine asked, Gavin looking at her.

"Leah and Annika Peters grew up together. Best friends from the time they were in Sunnyvale daycare until recently. They had a falling out and haven't spoken in weeks." Gavin explained, Satine remembering what Jennifer had said yesterday afternoon.

"Annika was in Corktown, trying to score more drugs. Her dealer refused to sell and Annika stormed off to a cafe where she started yelling at a redheaded girl. Their argument got really intense and Annika followed her out of the cafe. I had followed to make sure they didn't start fighting but Annika was already gone."

"Miss Morgan?" Gavin asked, Satine snapping out of her thoughts.

"My sister Jennifer witnessed an argument between Annika and Leah yesterday… it was about drugs that Annika tried to buy." Satine explained, Gavin realizing it.

"Annika was hooked on red ice and Leah had cut their friendship off…" Gavin responded before they stood up when they heard footsteps and saw Hank and a nurse.

"I need to be checked over, can you stay with Leah?" Hank asked.

"We will, Hank." Gavin replied before Hank was guided to a separate treatment room and Satine and Gavin walked into the one Leah was in.

Gavin sat down, lightly rubbing Leah's head as she was asleep from the sedative… and Satine heard her phone chime before she walked into the hallway and answered it.

"Hey, where are you? There's a report of a car crash on the news, are you stuck in traffic?"

"Jen, I'm at the hospital. No, I'm not hurt but… remember that kid who was pissed off yesterday?" Satine responded.

"Annika?! Is she okay?!"

"She's gone, Sis. From what I could tell, the impact of the crash killed her." Satine explained after a shaky breath, Satine hearing Jennifer grab her car keys. "Jennifer, it's too dangerous to drive! The fog hasn't subsided at-" She responded.

"Which hospital?!"

"Henry Ford ER. Please be careful out there." Satine responded.

The two hung up and Satine walked back into the room, Gavin looking at her.

"Your sister's worried sick…" Gavin responded quietly. "Are you holding up okay?" He asked.

"Uh… yeah, I'm… okay enough." Satine took a few steps over and sat herself down in a chair, holding her phone in both her hands. There was nothing on the display as she had turned that off, she simply fidgeted by moving the phone around between her fingers and absently staring at it.

It was after being checked over and finding that he only needed stitches that Hank walked back into the room and they saw him.

"She hasn't woken back up yet. What was in that sedative?" Gavin responded.

Before Hank could explain, the three saw Leah's eyes open slowly…
