She looked at the night sky. It had been a long boat ride, and they were still only halfway to Crescent Island. She was nervous, afraid the espers would try to hurt her friends, afraid the plan was a trick. She leaned over the side of the boat, deciding the dark waves would be at least a change from the unchanging stars on this sleepless night. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a light off to the right of her. She turned, seeing General Leo standing there, holding a lantern. "What are you doing up? It's late, almost midnight," he told her. She grimaced. "I couldn't sleep. Maybe it's just because I'm not used to the rocking of boats." He gave her an empathetic look and stood next to her. "Something on your mind?" he asked. "No… well, kind of," she responded, walking to the middle of the deck. "What is it?" he asked in response. "Or would you rather not tell me?" She shook her head and sighed, looking at the floor. She closed her eyes, listening to the waves move the boat toward their destination. Then she smiled slightly. "I was used by the Empire… forced to do things without the ability to have a single thought for or against them… and now here I am, sided with the Returners and cooperating with the 'enemy'..." He chuckled. "That's fair. Although, we aren't all like Kefka just from being in the Empire." She turned her head and looked at him for a second, contemplating his face, before looking at the floor again. "That's not what I was thinking about, though." She walked over to the other side of the deck, leaning over the edge of the ship and facing away from Leo. "So you don't want to talk about it?" he asked. "No… just, I thought of that and… it doesn't matter anyways." She contemplated the ocean for a second before continuing, "Why are you bothering to talk to me?" He sighed. "I knew you were being used as a biological weapon…" She heard his footsteps, a few which grew slightly quieter from the first to the last. "And because I did nothing about it, I'm just as bad as Kefka," he responded. She turned around and began to walk over to him, yet again stopping in the middle of the deck. "I'm the child of a human and an esper…" She looked at her shoes. "Will I ever be able to… love anyone?" Leo tried to reassure her, evidently somewhat shocked at the question. "Of course! Why wouldn't you?" "Because… I haven't ever felt that way…" she whispered. "You're still young," Leo said, and left. "But…" she whispered as shelooked into the open water, "I want to know… now!"
