The first thing Jaune saw when he woke up was a small chilly room made out of wood, immediately upon noticing the place he started to look around to see if there was anyone around him to ask. Upon moving his head he realized that he was shackled, his hands hanging on by a metal pipe while his legs were chained together making it impossible to move around.
Trying to even make a sound was a chore by itself, as he didn't know how long he had any kind of food or water in good conditions, even sleeping was uncomfortable, but alas he got used to resting through exhausting his hands by hanging them.
He was still processing the reason why he was stuck in such a situation, after all, just recently has he been moved into this room, just days ago he was still traversing through the continent of Anima looking for any way to survive in the wilderness, thinking of how his life led to this awful lifestyle, but then he remembered...
His family died to protect him.
During a family trip to Shion a mix of grimm and bandits started attacking the village, the cries for help and the shouts of his mother telling him to escape were all he could hear while fleeing. He still remembers his old thoughts before any of the events happened, how his life was all dandy and how he thought the world was simply grimm against humans and faunus.
Oh how naive he was.
Yet despite all events that lead to his current position, he still had hope, the hope that just as villains existed, heroes existed as well, and that one of them would come and save him from his predicament. Yet that day never came.
Days passed and he lost track of time. He doesn't know how long he's been inside this prison created by those that he believed to be nice people. Just before being moved to this odd residence he still remembered gaining hope that he could find shelter until he was ready to go out into his own adventure and act like a hero, like his ancestor and the many huntsmen he heard tales of. But what he found instead was a bunch of fearful habitants that heard of Shion's demise, scared that the child had been taken in by the bandits and was being used as a scout of sorts, to test the waters of the next place they would raid, and so they took him hostage so that he wouldn't go and tell them about the village.
As ridiculous as that statement sounded, it was sorta understandable according to Jaune, having the sole survivor of Shion come out of nowhere asking for shelter at a village that may or may not be far away was farfetched to them. But what wasn't understandable to the blond boy was how they treated him.
Was it normal for them to yell at him? Hit him? or downright torture him?
With that last question crossing Jaune's head, he flinched as he remembered one of the worst pains he could feel physically, it wasn't at the level as losing his family and seeing people die, but that was more mentally painful for him, the thought of a small piece of metal or wood burrowed into his fingertips as it split flesh and nail was a haunting experience to him, the relieve he felt when they stopped was a comfort to him as his breathing started to calm down and his cries to slowly lower in tone.
And the worst part is, he didn't know how much more he could take it, he wanted to escape, he couldn't do so by simply asking, after all, he overheard them talking about locking him in there forever. And that made Jaune panic and start devising a plan.
His best chance of escape was to wait till they would unshackle him from his chains and moved him to continue torturing him, and even then, he went blank after that, he was unable to think about what to do after that, he didn't want to resort to violent means to get away, as he knew killing was bad.
And yet, that was what he did.
On a day where he was about to feel immense pain, he snapped, just as a single villager started removing his shackles that made him stuck to the wall, he used them and started hitting the man. The cries of the man asking him to stop were ignored by the sound of the shackles ringing as they echoed in the room, as the broken boy's breathing started to be heard, the ending of the adult was assured.
With his first step done, Jaune took those chains on his hands, looked around and he found out that this model had no key lock in them, he couldn't take them off until someone else could cut them out. And then he realized, he just bludgeoned a man, this made him sweat cold, he had just killed a man, at a young age at that, he knew he didn't have time to think about it, this was his window of opportunity, making sure the shackles weren't heavy he started running on the direction of the only door he saw.
At the other side he saw a ray of light, it blinded him, taking a few seconds to get used to it, he saw a beautiful sight, a green field with some dots of red, blue and lines of brown was protagonistic of this landscape, the birds chirped peacefully and he could hear the wind rustling with the leaves. While admiring this view he realized that he wasn't alone, the light shone into the small pockets the trees left, and saw a lot of villagers looking at him, this shack was within the village after all.
He sprinted in a direction he didn't even know, he jumped, ducked and lunged himself over rivers, tree trunks, arrows and fences. He was cursing to himself under his breath why any of this was happening to him. Just as he slipped into water as he made his way through lotus flowers.
Exhausted from all the running he hid himself from the villagers, as he had time to calm down he wondered if what he did was the correct move, could he have slowly opened the door to look outside? Most definitely, but he was overjoyed by the fact he could finally see the light of day again, he swore to himself to never get ahead of himself, as when life was good, something bad was bound to happen.
While sneaking around the village he knew his hair was quite recognizable, a blonde kid in really ragged clothes was something anyone would notice at first sight in the public, he made his way around dark alleyways during the night to avoid detection.
When he thought he was finally out of the place, he sighed in relief that he finally got away, now thinking about what was next for him to do.
And just like that he jinxed himself.
One of the villagers finally caught him, taking him by the dirty shirt he had on and taunting him. He said, "Did you really think you could get away?"
That did it, Jaune had once given up on getting saved that he had to save himself from that situation, and now he knew he had to do so again, this angered him, feelings he didn't have before had come to make themselves present to him the moment Shion was raided, he was confused about how to feel about all these situations he got himself into without even doing anything to deserve them.
He broke down yelling at the man that caught him "What did I do to deserve this?! I'm not even part of those bandits you guys talk about! I don't know what to do anymore after my family died! Just let me leave, I beg you..." Saying the last part just moments away from crying he knew it wouldn't even work, as apathetic people were the only habitants of this village it seemed.
"You think that's gonna happen? Please, you're the only one that escaped Shion, there is no way you weren't part of the bandits, and even then, you could be a bad sign of what's going to happen to us! You're different from the others we've taken in, you're simply bound to become our worst nightmare if we let you out there!"
Jaune was confused now, were there other people like him that they let inside this village? Was he just the odd one out of the many that just had bad luck? He didn't feel like crying anymore, he wasn't sad, nor was he confused anymore, yet he was trembling now, he was trembling from hatred, why could others live happily? He had lost his family, his innocence, he had everything taken from him, and yet those similar to him were taken in while he was not?
Screw being a hero, he didn't think people like this were worth saving, nor did he believe that the world was black and white anymore, because within each other there was a speck of the other inside, he knew that the world must be divided to act like this, even if the prominent threat of grimm existed they still squabble with each other with only the people hurting.
What he wanted now was to unite everyone, if he got a way to get on top of the food chain he could maybe be able to make everything right, no more wars, no more conflicts or anything of that kind, he wanted to create a world that was equal to each other, and had no evil intentions at that.
Despite having experienced everything his hope still remained intact, the only thing that changed was his solution. Instead of becoming a hero, he would create heroes, he knew he couldn't do it himself, and he knew that it was too much work for a simple human. But even this way of thinking was useless, as he knew he was going to be brought back as a prisoner to this village, to never see light again.
Starting to feel tired from everything that happened today he couldn't resist the grip of the man, and as he started dragging him, he suddenly stopped...
"Why did he stop?" Jaune thought to himself as he looked up to see the villager's face.
It was a face full of fear.
"Why would he be scared right now?" Jaune turned his head around to see why, and what was on the other side was something that made his eyes widen.
A black horse creature bigger than anything he saw was standing there, the white skull like part that was located on its mouth made its teeth look sharper, Jaune started to look up even more to see what looked like a humanoid creature whose torso was stuck to the horse, and what looked like a white mask with horns had red glowing on it, be it markings or eyes, it screamed out that you needed to run.
"Ah, I see my negative emotions have lured a grimm to this town…"
It screeched loudly making both humans flinch and attempt to cover their ears, yet Jaune had no strength... and yet, he didn't have his ears hurting? What was going on?
While Jaune was processing the situation the creature lunged itself towards the other person, it extended its arms and slashed at the man, drawing blood from the wound as the victim fell to the ground while screaming in agony. He was dead seconds later.
The blonde boy fell to the ground, thinking this was it, this was his demise, how he would die, he closed his eyes waiting for the impact to come... yet it never came. As Jaune slowly opened his eyes, what he saw was the grimm staring at him, it tilted its head to one side... Well both heads, Jaune was completely dumbfounded about anything he had believed.
Has his whole life been a lie?
He started believing that humans and faunus were the good guys while grimm were the bad guys, this first statement completely broken by his stay at this village, and now he was in front of a grimm that was not attacking him for some reason.
He then realized something.
This grimm was back in Shion. Was this the reason why he was the only one able to escape Shion? Did the grimms back then try to help him? No... that was too out there to actually be true... right?
But that train of thought had completely taken over his curiosity. He wanted to see if it was true or not, he could leave right now to search for grimm, but instead of looking for them, why shouldn't he attract them to where he is?
Since grimm fed from negative emotions, if he could make a huge amount of those emotions, he could perhaps make a few come to this village. Yes, he knew what he was doing was not morally right, but morals be damned right now he thought that this village was not worth existing.
With his head made up he first did other quick experiments, what he found out from them was that he could make orders, the grimm could understand him, but they could not talk to him. With these basic questions out of the way he made his first real order to the horse like grimm.
"Let me ride you" he asked in excitement, he never got to ride on something that didn't make him sick, he hoped that this wasn't the case, it would also be incredibly cool according to Jaune.
The grimm didn't show any feelings yet that made his face look deadpanned, it slowly lowered itself and signaled him to hop on. With delight the boy did so, feeling like this was one of the few times he truly felt happy since his arrival at this town aside from getting away from that cold room.
On his way back to the village he slowly looked around, seeing unaware civilians as the sun started to finally rise up again. This would be the last sunrise for the habitants, but the first sunrise for Jaune. His parents never let him wake up early, he missed them a lot, as much as they told him he couldn't be a huntsman or when he was scolded by them, he truly loved them and he really wanted to see them again.
Having gone through those thoughts he knew he needed to get over it sooner or later, and he wanted it to be now, he wanted to burn down those memories the same way he was going to burn down this place.
For so long he felt like he could become a huntsman, yet despite thinking so, he looked back to only see a lazy kid, he never did train by himself, and even after his father refused to train him, he didn't do anything to build up body. He was going to change that as well.
After everything that is going to happen today, his life would turn a new leaf and bury everything for it to never resurface again...
Upon arriving to the center of the village, he gathered together the closest crops around many of the buildings, he took one of the torches supported in of the walls and started fires, the panic and screams he heard were too similar to the ones he hear back in Shion, but he had to push on, this was his test to see if he was worthy of surviving, the strong didn't survive with weak will but those who are able to act in any situation, the resourcefulness and viciousness to intimidate or completely put in disarray the enemy did.
Just as people started exiting the houses the grimm he now dubbed the Nuckelavee started tearing apart anyone that it put its eyes upon. The smell of blood mixed with smoke and ash as blood fell and extinguished some fires was what Jaune had himself focusing on. Just then he snapped back to reality, he saw the grimm kill a woman.
During this whole tragedy Jaune had started, he noticed as more grimm joined the massacre, he saw as they ignored him and went straight to the bystanders, just then he stopped one of the beowolves and confirmed the fact he could indeed control them, not just the Nuckelavee.
But then he was about to be attacked by another grimm, only to be saved by aforementioned cavalry grimm, it seemed that not every grimm accepted him, but he could care less, as long as he had some way to protect himself he wouldn't complain, especially since he wanted to start his own training, it would make training against grimm easier without the risk of dying.
He saw a man running with what seemed to be his son, but immediately after the father stops on his tracks while his son, carrying a knife, kept fleeing, it appears that he would let his child survive while sacrificing himself, all he could do was frown, just like his father, it seems like this is how all parents acted for their children.
He couldn't hear what the man was saying, he was too focused on the faces of the victims and that family, some were of shock, some of rage, but the one that stood out was from the one fleeing, he looked at him intensively, as if he was swearing to one day come back and kill him, he didn't care,as it meant that the black haired boy would most likely turn into a huntsman just to avenge his father.
Jaune felt somewhat jealous as he saw the boy escape with a girl who seemed to be orphaned, after all, of all the villagers that he saw, none looked like her, he was jealous about the fact he couldn't even live on the streets, he was locked in one place with no hopes of someone saving him, something he so desired during his captivity.
The blood of the man dripped out of his corpse as the Nuckelavee was finally done with him, Jaune felt nothing, he was apathetic, he no longer felt guilty, he wanted to be a hero, but he knew that after this event, he never could.
He became the villain of this massacre, with no redeeming quality, which he wanted to resolve, he wanted to redeem himself in some way, and so he would help people become heroes, be it by creating atrocities or by convincing them via threatening.
As the last fire finally extinguished, all that was left was an empty husk of what was a thriving village, he soon made his way to the entrance of the town, he asked himself.
Where to now?
Upon realizing this problem he knew he couldn't stay in one place, the resources around him would run out, and going to any of the kingdoms was a no no, unless he parted with the grimm that followed him, he couldn't enter any of the civilizations, yet he wanted to socialize again as a child. He wanted to be safe but still have human interaction, and so, he asked the grimm to leave him until he came back, they would stay in this village, Kuroyuri as he heard it was called.
But firstly he wanted them to escort him, you never knew what you would find on a normal trip through the dirt roads.
He needed to find some place that would not recognize him, any other settlement could just think of him as a bad omen after surviving two destroyed villages, and so he decided on either going into hiding in those towns or isolated from the giant land mass that were the continents. His choices were Menagerie or any of the small islands.
Taking any of the remnants that could be useful to him, he took a backpack and some provisions for the journey, he remembered the teaching of his father about surviving, that was the reason why he was even able to live in the wilderness, he did miss... No, no more thinking about them, I promised myself to make peace with everything that happened.
Jaune went to a nearby sea after a few minutes of walking, he had no knowledge of the grimm that existed, but he had to try his luck. After a few minutes of attempting he finally was able to call a grimm within the seas.
This grimm was similar to a serpent, yet despite coming from the ocean it had wings for some reason, in fact, it was quite odd, arms, lives on the sea, wings, this grimm had everything, its skull took a big part of its face.
His motion sickness was nonexistent, for some reason riding on grimm made him rather calm instead, he admired the sea as he got wet from the sudden splashes of water that came his way.
Jaune had finally seen land for what felt like many, many hours, even he wouldn't be surprised if it took days, but his stay in that room screwed with his sense of time. When he finally got to land, what he was greeted with was a large forest but what made them stand out was the snow covering them, he needed to search more, as he left the head of the serpent he looked back and waved at it while it went back to the deeper parts of the ocean.
As he walked for a bit he found a board with the name of the island.
"So this place is called Patch?" He kept walking past it keeping no mind on the name as it didn't ring any bells, he didn't expect to meet anyone he knew or anyone he would care enough about.
But...
It was here where Jaune would meet someone dear to him.
(A/N)
And that is it, 4 years of thinking about a story about the world of Remnant, and it took me 1 year to finally finish a timeline of the events that happen in this story.
Now some of you may wonder about how often I will update this story... I really don't fucking know either. I am only writing this as a personal memento about what the story is about. I keep changing stuff and it does irk me about it, so I decided to finally start posting my stories.
The first one is this one, a story about Jaune gaining powers to control grimm, quite "original" if you ask me, I actually don't have any inspiration from other fanfics to create this, instead I actually got inspired after going on a nostalgia trip from playing Dynasty Warriors (if you know the story you can have some ideas on how the story may go).
If any of you have noticed the tags you can tell what characters are going to be important, and can even hint on what is going to happen next. The pairing here you may ask? Well here's the kicker, there is none. I'll have some interactions that make you wonder if they are actually gonna hit it off or not.
I honestly don't think the dialogue that I've written is good, it feels quite bland to me, which is why there is almost no dialogue here
Lastly, as I've said before, I've got more stories, you can, again get an idea on what series they will be based on what I have in my lists.
I'm also thinking of writing this in Spanish, but that might take a bit to fully translate it.
With everything done, I can finally say that I've taken my first step into showing what I have in store, so stay tuned... for whenever that is going to be.
(Also the character in the cover is Erebus the Underworld Monarch from Yu-Gi-Oh)
This is a story posted on my Wattpad Account, you can also find a Spanish Version under the same name in there with the same username.
