Author's Note: I just had to write this after the sequence where Edward has a nightmare about everyone that died comes back to haunt him, including Mary. I changed some of it as it's an alternate universe (including Mary losing her child to miscarriage like Anne instead of her child being alive but taken away). And the nightmare happening inside the manor instead of on the Jackdaw. Anyway enough waffling, hope you enjoy this short story.

Edward shifted in bed, tossing and turning as sweat dripped from his brow.

Meanwhile, in the dream world, Mary was pacing back and forth around the manor of Great Inagua, distressed and angry.

Edward was sat down on the table, with the note and letter he found on Mary's bed which was the cause of the current argument.

"So you were just going to run away without telling me this. That I'm also a Father to our child. She's my child too, Mary" Edward said hurt

Mary stopped pacing to face Edward. "You wouldn't understand Edward. All that's wrapped up in your head, is gold, silver and rum. How can you look after a child when all you care about is yourself. Your in no state to be a Father"

Edward stood up, fuming. "So that's it then. You're just going to take my child away from me. You won't even give me a chance"

"You had your chances Edward. I told you numerous times to give up on the observatory and the sage but you haven't. It's for the best. Until you can get your head out of your arse and change course we're not coming back" She snapped back at him

"Walk away Mary, Walk away like you are the best at doing! Everyone I love always just walks away from me. First Caroline then you!" he shouted after her

Mary turned around by the door. Even angrier she seethed "You left me to die Edward, You left me and our child to die"

Edward was at a loss for words. Mary rubbed the wound in deeper.

"That's right. Got nothing to say have ya? All this hunting for gold, and you didn't even realise the two people closest to you have died. When will you stop Edward?. How many people have to die for you to realise?"

Edward gained back his tongue and angrily retorted back. "Goddamn you all. I am so close. Just leave me be!"

Mary huffed angrily, before walking out. "So be it, Kenway. I've nothing else to say"

Edward woke up in the dark, heart beating rapidly, panting and gasping. He looked around him and realised it was just a dream, however it felt so real.

He reached out to the floor and for a nearby bottle of rum. Gulping it down thirstly, he tried his best to erase what he just saw.

It felt so real. It felt so like Mary. Mary when she has one of those anger rages, Mary when she acts like Kidd. I've been thinking too much of her lately.

She's right. How many people have died because of my reckless hunt for gold? I thought I was making a better life for myself, but I've lost everyone I've loved all the way.

It's not too late, I can still better myself before it's too late. Had I been a better man, perhaps Mary and my Child may have been alive.

With that, Edward got up ready to head to Tulum and the assassins for some redemption.
