The esteemed Lady Priestess Kuri was draped over the bed reading manga, being lazy, and altogether un-priestess-like, when the bell rang.
Standing up and trying to make herself look nice, she strode to the door, opened it, and found a Deku gazing at her.
"um….hello?" Deku blinked in shock.
Kuri felt herself smile. He was exactly as advertised. "You knocked?"
"Yes I did." Deku said helplessly. "Don't know why though. I don't even know why I walked over…"
"Oh!" Kuri clapped her hands together, looking out at the quirky streets. "I'm Lady Priestess Kuri! Are you a hero?"
Dejected, he went to walk away. This was a mistake. "I'm Midoriya Izuku. N-no…I'm not…"
Kuri leaned in conspiratorially. "Do you want to be?" When he didn't answer in shock, she continued. "I can make you strong, flying, fast, whatever you like?"
Deku's eyes widened at the possibilities. "I-I can be a hero? Do you think I can be a hero?"
"Well Yes!" Kuri grinned. "of course you can. Come on in. Tell me what kind of hero you would like to be."
Deku sniffled, weary from crying. "I-I wanna be a hero like All Might!"
"Strong then." The priestess touched his scrawny arms. "Alright. I'm going to enchant you. You can be a hero for 24 hours. Use that time to become the hero that you already are." She touched his chest. "It's not about quirks. A heroes strength is measured by his heart. And you've got a great one."
"But h-how can I be a hero without a quirk?" Deku said dejectedly. All Might himself had told him he couldn't.
Kuri sat by him. "Use the twenty four hours to figure that out. Be a great hero, and you'll find a way to your answer. This spell will make you strong, fast, and invulnerable."
"H-how do I pay you back though?!"
"With your story and your gratitude. Tell me about yourself."
Deku's eyes widened. "Really? That's all?" He was in awe. "Is that your quirk? Is this a quirk?!"
"Not exactly." Kuri grinned. "It's magic. But what's a quirk? "
That did it. The cute little nerd launched into an in depth description, giving the priestess time to look up her aunt's Hero Spell.
"Ok ok! That's enough! How bout this. I'll tell you something about this place. I'm Kuri Hikawa, priestess and guardian of this place, that we call Ageha. Cuz it flutters from place to place like a butterfly!"
"How does that work? Oh! I'm midoriya izuku!"
"We don't really know. I build biomagical technology. Im also a priestess. My sister is a healer and enchantress. This place goes where it's needed, and draws people who need us to it. We help them, in exchange for stories. Then they usually return and tell us more. So we can feel like we make a difference."
"Th-That's amazing! I-I'll have to come back and tell you what happens and my decision!"
"I'd like that!" Kuri grinned, coming out of her shell a bit. "Can I touch your freckles? They are so cute!"
Deku blushed. "ah..s-sure!"
Kuri touched his little freckles. "Your so cute. I-I hope to see you again. I-I wish I could sneak out and watch you be all heroic! I could be a sidekick! "
"No…" Deku said. "You'd make a great hero Kuri."
"Huh? I-I'm not." Kuri quickly dismissed. "Not like you. Your strong and courageous, and I can tell you really want to help people. Your complimenting me instead of demanding the spell."
"but you are strong! And yes I do want to help people. Do you not want to?" Deku said, it was unfathomable to him.
"I'm helping you aren't I? I just don't like the spotlight. I'd rather help people like this and then watch over them from afar."
Deku grinned and hugged her. "Thank you!"
Kuri stiffened and turned bright red. A hot guy was hugging her! "A-ano… th-thank you for the-the hug." She relaxed and hugged back.
"Th-thank you for calling me cute a-and saying I can be a hero!"
Kuri blushed. "um…your welcome. A-are you ready for the spell…and can I come with you?"
"I-I'd be honored if you came with me." Deku said, but really was just nervous about doing it himself.
Kuri blushed and mumbled to herself. "Just go sit in the chair and I'll do the spell."
Deku smiled happily at her. He was gonna be a hero!
"Blessed with powers from my destiny,
Bless this hero with invincibility."
It was very anticlimactic. There was no flash or poof or anything.
Deku blinked."I don't feel any different…"
The priestess smirked and pulled a lever. "INCOMING!" A wrecking ball swung from the ceiling and Deku immediately threw his hands up and shattered it.
"Whoa."
