Chapter 1

John B and JJ
"So what are you and Kie going to do about this?" John B inquired as the two stood alone near the street.
"I mean Kie is her own person. So I'm not completely sure why you always lump us together"
"We know you are dating, why so secretive? Don't you make some decisions together?"
"John B, we just found out, I haven't had any conversations with Kie yet. I am literally talking to you first."
"I just meant, you two were planning a surf trip this summer..."
"I mean, if you decide to pursue this treasure hunt and Pope lets us know it's legit, then I'm doing it."
"And if Kie doesn't?"
"I feel like you know something I don't" JJ said in response.
"I overheard Cleo and Kie talking. Cleo doesn't want to be involved."
"And what did Kie say?" JJ began to worry.
"She seemed to agree with Cleo."
"She said those words? I don't need your interpretation of this."
"She said: I don't know if I have another one in me. I kind of want to focus on my job."
"Jeez I thought it was something terrible!"
"JJ, I know you. If you see this splitting you two up, either you'll leave Kie or leave me."
"Kie is right. You are too codependent." JJ laughed "nothing is happening yet. Plus, you hate my ideas, so if I don't do it, it's probably safer."
"What's safer?" Kie asked putting her hand on JJ's shoulder.
"When I don't come up with ideas."
"I don't think that's completely true. If you didn't break me out of Kitty Hawk then today would be a different story for us" she smiled.
"Yes, and that's why you are going on another treasure hunt" John B exclaimed
Kie stiffened and dropped her hand from his shoulder to twist her own hands together. JJ had become more in tune with Kie over the last 18 months. He reached out and grabbed her hand in his, pulling her into his side, "nothing has been decided, so please stop".
Kiara changed subjects once John B nodded in response to JJ. She squeezed his hand and smiled "so what's the plan for the rest of the day?"
"Back to your place?" Sarah said coming up behind her husband directing her question at JJ now that he was a home owner. It was a smaller house, but he and Kie did a lot of upgrades and it looked much better than when he bought it.
"Sure" JJ responded "I don't have enough food though."
"I can pick something up from the Wreck. Let me find my dad to put a order in." Kie said and JJ reluctantly let go of her hand.
"Meet us there?" JJ said to John B and Sarah.
"Let me see if Pope and Cleo are coming" John B said leaving Sarah and JJ awkwardly standing together.
"So has Kie moved in yet?"
"You would think she has by the amount of time she spends there and how much of her closet has made its way to mine, but according to her, she still rents out that apartment."
"Have you asked her to move in?"
"Indirectly, yes."
"I think she needs a swift kick in the ass. You two are like perfect for each other. You make way more sense and John B and I. You should ask her again but lay it out."
JJ's House
It was about 11:30 when Pope and Cleo left, John B and Sarah decided to stay in the guest room at JJs because neither should be driving. Kie was outside on the hammock when JJ approached.
"Everything is put away. Thank you for dinner"
"Want to join me?" Kiara said shifting her body to make room for him.
"Always" JJ said, his head opposite of hers so they could see each other "so what's going on in the pretty little head of yours?"
"The conversation from earlier with the historian."
"I've been thinking more about your reaction to what John B said."
"JJ, I'd never stop you from going if that's what you wanted. But I don't want our trip to be forgotten. I want to see the world, but only if you are with me."
"We are going on that trip. But if the timeline isn't next summer?"
"I just want to be young enough where I don't complain about aches and pains after surfing" she laughed and so did he.
"Okay. I agree... completely. Now what are your thoughts about the potential treasure hunt?"
"Would if I decide not to go through with it?"
"Listen Kie, I'm a bit smarter than I was at the start of searching for gold. If Pope doesn't see this as credible, I'm not going to go with JB, regardless of the guilt he puts on me. I have too much to lose now."
"The charter boat?" Kie questioned.
"Well yeah, but you too." He caressed her ankle.
Kie smiled, "you still haven't answered my question...although that answer 10 out of 10."
"I'd miss you and probably regret doing it without you. Maybe I might even get upset with you for not wanting to do it to. I won't leave you over it despite that bullshit John B thinks."
"I missed that part. Care to share?"
"He said I'd either leave you or him if you decided not to go."
"The codependency" Kie laughed.
"Right?" He laughed as well "do you think the same?"
"I don't think we'd break up over it, I see you potentially resenting me though. But that wouldn't be a abnormal response for someone. I would do it if you wanted me to, but I'd want a out."
"What do you mean?"
"Like if this happens, I want a chance to say I've had enough and not be judged or chastised for it."
"You are really like the best person ever" JJ smiled. "If it turns out to be something legit, I would want to do it with you. We are a team. But if you want that out, I'll never judge you, I'll just miss you"
"The B Team?!"
"Haha Funny. But yet. You are my ride or die despite John B believing otherwise. Plus I know he'd choose Sarah over me"
Kiara grinned "mhmm."
"Okay fine, I'd choose you over him."
"Nah. I think you'd choose who you thought was right. But I appreciate the honorable mention."
"Can you do me the honor of going to bed with me?" JJ asked.
"To bed or to sleep?"
"I mean" JJ smiled "we have guests, so maybe just sleep."
"You tired?"
"That was a lot of socializing and a lot of kooks today."
"Let's sleep then" she said getting off the hammock and waiting for him to stand up.
"Hey Kie. I have a question, and if you need time, I understand."
"What's up?"
"Can you fall asleep with me every night?" he paused when she looked perplexed "I'm gonna be direct. Will you move on with me...here?"
Kie smiled but took a moment before she answered..."yeah."
"Like Yeah, you are giving up on the apartment and yeah we are sharing this house, yeah?"
"Babe, you are spiraling. I would love to move in with you JJ Maybank."
"I want this to be our house though, not like mine but you live here."
"I gathered. And I love you."
"Love you too."
