It was the end of the Christmas break, and all our Peanuts have gone back to school. Over in Charlie Brown's class, there was an assignment required. Miss Donovan called the role, and as soon as it was time, the students paid attention.
Miss Donovan made the announcement.
"Aw, not an assignment on the first day after Christmas break!"
But Miss Donovan said it'd be good stuff.
"Film movies?" everyone cried."
Miss Donovan explained yes.
"A film festival? Good grief! This could spell disaster." Sighed Charlie Brown.
"Calm down, Charlie Brown." Said Heather. "Let's just see where this goes."
Miss Donovan continued her announcement.
Peppermint Patty just stayed asleep at her desk, while Marcie tried to wake her friend up.
"Sir?" Marcie questioned.
Marcie pushed Peppermint Patty's head.
"Sir! Sir!"
Soon, Peppermint Patty woke up.
"No, A! No, F!" Peppermint Patty shrieked, waking up.
"We're doing a film assignment, Sir." Said Marcie.
Miss Donovan continued her announcement.
"Can we do this in groups, Ma'am?" asked Franklin.
Miss Donovan answered yes.
"Yay! We get to do it in groups!" Everyone cheered.
"In groups? Oh, I don't know who to do this with." Charlie Brown worried.
"Not to worry, Charlie Brown. You can do this with me." said Heather.
"Hmm….. I'll think about it, Heather."
"Let's talk it over at lunch." Heather decided.
"Are there any prizes for winning this festival?" Schroeder asked.
Miss Donovan answered yes.
"Yay! Prizes for winning the festival!" Everyone cheered.
In the cafeteria, Charlie Brown sat at his table not just with Heather, but with Linus too.
"Oh. Hi, Linus." Said Charlie Brown.
"Hey, Charlie Brown." Said Linus. "Heard a film festival is taking place. I know because Miss Othmar is assigning out class to do it too."
"I'm just nervous, Linus." Said Charlie Brown. "I don't know who to do the assignment with. You, or Heather?"
"Come to my booth after school, Charlie Brown." Said Linus.
"Want me to assist you with this, Charlie Brown?" Heather asked.
"No, Heather. I'm the one with the problem. Linus can help me." Charlie Brown said.
"If you insist, Charlie Brown." Said Heather. "Once you decide on me, you come over and tell me."
"It's a deal, Heather." Said Charlie Brown.
When school was over for the day, Charlie Brown went over to the Psychiatry booth where Linus and Janice were waiting.
"Hi, Linus. Hello, Janice."
"Hi, Charlie Brown." Said Janice.
Charlie Brown took his seat, ready to explain his trouble.
"So what seems to be the problem, Charlie Brown?" asked Janice.
"You are aware of a film festival that's on its way, right?" asked Charlie Brown.
"I've heard, Charlie Brown." Said Janice.
"The trouble is I don't know who to do the assignment with." Said Charlie Brown. "Should I do it with Linus, or should I do it with Heather?"
"Oh, Charlie Brown. I have a neat idea. Think about what you want to film." Said Janice.
"Well, thanks for the advice anyway, Janice." Said Charlie Brown.
"Oh. Charlie Brown?"
"Yes, Janice?"
Janice held out her tin, and shook it. Charlie Brown tossed three cents in.
"Such a beautiful sound, isn't it, Linus?" Janice asked Linus.
Charlie Brown soon got home, where Sally was sitting in her beanbag watching TV.
"Where have you been, Big Brother?" asked Sally.
"Just visited Linus and Janice for some psychiatry. Janice advised me to think about what to film." Charlie Brown replied.
"For the film festival? I have the same assignment, Big Brother. But I don't know what to film either."
Meanwhile, Marcie went over to Peppermint Patty's house with a video camera. She was going to film her own movie. Marcie knocked on the door, and Peppermint Patty answered.
"Hi, Marcie! Come to film movies with me?" Peppermint Patty asked.
"I couldn't be here for any other reason, Sir." Marcie answered.
"Great. But….. what movie shall we make?"
"How about a movie about your daily sleep routines?" Marcie chuckled.
"Hmm…. You know what, Marcie? Since you're the director, I'll be the producer."
"Producer?" Marcie quizzed.
"I'll supervise you while you make this movie. Deal?"
"I suppose so, Sir." Marcie answered.
"Ahem?" Peppermint Patty cleared.
"I mean…. Produce Sir."
"That's more like it, Director Marcie."
The next day, as Marcie and Peppermint Patty were in class, Marcie got the camera ready, and Peppermint Patty sat at her desk.
"Are you ready, Produce Sir?" asked Marcie.
"Whenever you are, Marcie." Said Peppermint Patty.
"Okay. Franklin!" Marcie called.
"Really, Marcie?" asked Franklin.
"It's one way I'm going to win this festival." Said Marcie.
"Marcie, if you really want to win this festival, may I suggest making a more serious movie? Something that'll grab the audience's attention." Franklin said.
"Alright, Franklin." Marcie answered.
Then she turned to Peppermint Patty.
"Produce Sir!"
"Produce Sir?" Franklin puzzled.
"Produce Sir! Wake up!" Marcie called.
"Oh! I'm awake! I'm awake!" Peppermint Patty cried.
"Change of plan, Produce Sir!"
"Why? Was there a problem?" asked Peppermint Patty.
"Let's make a more serious movie, Produce Sir." Answered Marcie.
Charlie Brown had finally made his mind up on who to co-produce his film with.
"Sally! I've got it!" said Charlie Brown.
"Got what, Big Brother?"
"Let's do our film together." Charlie Brown decided.
"Together?" quizzed Sally. "But I was hoping to do mine with my sweet babboo."
As Sally said this, the telephone rang, and Sally went to answer it.
"Hello?" Sally answered.
"I am NOT your sweet babboo!" yelled Linus. "And I wouldn't do a French assignment with you!"
"Isn't he the cutest thing?" Sally swooned.
"Good grief!" sighed Charlie Brown.
Charlie Brown went to the baseball field, ready to pitch. Who would be batting? Well, none other than Heather.
"Er, Charlie Brown? What did you bring me here for?" asked Heather.
"I'm going to make a movie on being the world's best pitcher." Charlie Brown said.
"If you say so, Charlie Brown." Said Heather.
"Ready, Sally? Camera!" called Charlie Brown.
"Rolling!" Sally answered.
"Charlie Brown: World Renown Pitcher. Take One!" Heather called.
"Action!"
Charlie Brown readied his pitch. He looked towards Heather, who held her bat upright, ready to bat. Charlie Brown pitched, but unfortunately, the ball sent Charlie Brown spinning about out of his clothes.
"Cut!" called Charlie Brown.
"What's wrong, Big Brother?" asked Sally.
"This wasn't how it was supposed to go! Heather, you weren't supposed to bat!" said Charlie Brown.
"Oh. I'm sorry, Charlie Brown." Said Heather.
"Let's do another take, Big Brother." Said Sally.
Over at Schroeder's place, Lucy was resting at the end of his piano, discussing the upcoming film festival.
"Schroeder. Do you have someone to help you with this film festival?" asked Lucy. "If not, I could volunteer."
"Forget it, Lucy." Schroeder said solemnly.
"Rats! What if I filmed it and you produced the music?"
"Alright then. After all, what's a film without music?"
"Ho boy!"
Lucy's excited cheer sent Schroeder flying off his piano.
Back with Charlie Brown, another take on his movie was ready.
"Sally!" Charlie Brown called.
"Camera is rolling!" Sally announced.
"Charlie Brown: World Renown Pitcher: Take Two!" Heather clapped.
"Action!" Sally called.
"This one is for the ages. Watch as I strike this player out." Charlie Brown said to himself.
Charlie Brown readied his shot, and pitched, only for Heather to bat again.
"Cut! Heather! You weren't supposed to hit the ball!" Charlie Brown demanded.
"Oh. Sorry, Charlie Brown." Said Heather.
"Alright. Maybe this world renown baseball movie wasn't a good idea." Charlie Brown decided.
"How about the football thing?" suggested Heather.
"Alright. We'll do that one." Said Charlie Brown.
"Good grief! Now we have more movies to produce!" moaned Sally.
As Charlie Brown, Heather, and Sally went over to an empty space to do the football thing, they ran into Lucy and Schroeder, who were making a movie of their own.
"Oh. Hi, Sally. Hi, Heather. Hi, Charlie Brown." Said Schroeder.
"Where are you off to?" asked Lucy.
"We're off to make a football movie." Said Charlie Brown.
"I'll take it from here!" said Lucy.
"But Lucy!" Schroeder cried.
"Oh no, Lucy!" Charlie Brown said sternly. "You're just gonna pull the football away!" Then Charlie Brown thought.
"No, Charlie Brown. Let her do it! It might help you write a great story."
Then he spoke again.
"Alright, Lucy. You can take part." Charlie Brown decided.
"Wonderful! Schroeder, we'll produce my movie later." Said Lucy.
"If you say so, Lucy." Sighed Schroeder.
So Lucy got a football and stood it up with her hand, ready for Charlie Brown to try to kick it.
"Oh, Charlie Brown!" Lucy said slyly.
"I'm ready!" said Charlie Brown. "Lucy, you do what you usually do when we do this. Camera!"
"Rolling!" Sally called.
"Charlie Brown: Football Fail. Take one!" Heather clapped.
"Action!" Sally called.
"Here goes nothing." Charlie Brown said.
Charlie Brown ran towards the football, preparing to kick it. Much to Charlie Brown's surprise, Lucy didn't pull it away. She kept her hand on the ball, and Charlie Brown kicked her hand instead.
"AAUGH!" Lucy cried in pain.
"Cut!" Charlie Brown shouted.
Then he turned to Lucy.
"Lucy! You were supposed to pull the ball away like you normally do!"
"Oh. Sorry, Charlie Brown." Said Lucy. "I was too busy thinking about what movie I want to make."
"Alright! Let's get this right!" Charlie Brown cried.
Over with Peppermint Patty, Marcie and Franklin, they were thinking of another movie to make.
"Marcie, since you like reading, how about the library?" Peppermint Patty suggested.
"That's a great idea, Sir!" said Marcie.
"Ahem?"
"I mean….. Produce Sir."
Is Violet going to be making a movie? Well….. let's see.
"What to make, what to make." Violet wondered. "Since my dad is richer than Charlie's dad, I'll ask him to blow some money on an extraordinary film."
Mr. Gray asked what Violet was doing.
"Oh. Nothing, Dad!" said Violet. "Just thinking about a movie for the film festival."
Mr. Gray suggested watching some movies.
"I ought to watch some movies and brainstorm. I know….."
Violet went over to the phone to call her friend Patty S. And Patty did answer the phone.
"Hello?" Patty Swanson answered.
"Patty! I've gotten an idea!" said Violet.
"You want me to help film your movie?" asked Patty Swanson.
"Of course, Patty." Violet said.
"Well….. would you mind if I brought Pig-Pen over?" asked Patty Swanson.
"Yuck!"
"Aw, come on, Violet! A little dirt never hurt anyone!"
"Well….. alright. I guess we could film some of the movie outside."
"Great! We'll be there!"
Later, Frieda went over to Linus and Janice's psychiatry booth for some kind of help.
"Hi, Frieda!" said Linus.
"How do you do, Linus? How do you do, Janice?" said Frieda.
"What are you in for, Frieda?" asked Janice.
"I want to make a movie for this film festival," said Frieda. "but I'm worried that taking part in a movie might ruin my naturally curly hair."
"I've got an idea! Why not run a jury for the film festival?" suggested Janice.
"A jury?" asked Frieda.
"You gather up anyone who isn't taking part in the film festival and when the film festival is over, they vote for a movie, and whichever movie receives the most votes wins the grand prize." Janice answered.
"You know something, Janice. You are right! I'll gather up some kids who aren't competing and they'll vote. Thanks for the advice, Janice."
Frieda tossed three cents into the tin.
"You know, Linus." Said Janice. "At this rate, we might be able to earn enough money to make a real theatrical movie."
"Really?"
"Nah." Janice said.
"Oh, Janice? Linus? Will you join the jury?" asked Frieda.
"Since I'm not making any movies, I'd love to!" Linus answered.
"Second! After all, movies are a passion of mine." Janice added.
"Great. You two are on the jury." Smiled Frieda.
The next place Frieda went to was Five's place.
"Hello. Five." Said Frieda.
"Oh. Hello, Frieda." Said Five.
"I'm looking for people to add to the jury for the film festival, and was wondering…."
"If I'd like to be added? Well, since I'm not producing a movie, I'd love to be on the jury."
"Thanks."
The next place Frieda went to was Shermy's place.
"Hi, Shermy." Said Frieda.
"Oh. Hi, Frieda." Said Shermy.
"Shermy. I'm looking for people who'd like to take part in the jury for…."
"The film festival? Hmm…. I'm not in any movie, so I'd like to be on the jury too."
"Wonderful! That's five people on the jury so far."
Next, Frieda went over to Charlotte Braun's place.
"Ah, Charlotte Braun, is it?" asked Frieda.
"IT IS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?" shouted Charlotte Braun.
"I'm looking for jurors for the film festival."
"I'D LOVE TO JOIN!"
"Okay, but keep it quiet please, Charlotte." Frieda suggested, not liking the shouting.
"ALRI…. I mean….. alright then." Charlotte Braun said.
"Great! Now, just one more juror in case there are ties." Frieda said.
Frieda knew there'd be one more person she'd need, so she went over to…..
"Oh! Hi!" said Floyd.
"Hello, Floyd. I've made a jury for the film festival, and was wondering…." Frieda said.
"I'd love to take part in the jury! I just hope my lamb cake is taking part in this festival!"
"Wonderful! That's all the jurors I need!" said Frieda.
The night of the film festival had arrived. Every kid in town was at the theatres. Snoopy and Woodstock walked into the theatres, only for Lucy to boot them out.
"No dogs or birds allowed!" Lucy shouted.
"Come on, Lucy!" said Charlie Brown. "Just this once! They're in it for the film festival."
"Alright. Come on in, Snoopy and Woodstock." Decided Lucy.
"Yay!" Snoopy and Woodstock cheered together.
Frieda, Linus, Janice, Five, Floyd, Shermy and Charlotte Braun were in front to judge the movie. Franklin was out front to announce the movies that would be playing.
"Welcome, Peanuts of Sparkyville, to the annual Sparkyville Film Festival! Tonight, we will be playing a variety of movies for you. Remember, there can be one grand prize. So, without further ado, here is the first film by Lucy van Pelt and Schroeder. Their feature film: Psychiatrist vs. Piano."
"Hmmm!" Lucy growled.
"What? It's a creative title!" Schroeder said.
*On the big screen*
There was Schroeder, playing Für Elise on his piano, when who should walk in but Lucy.
"Good grief!" sighed Schroeder.
"Do you know something, Schroeder?" asked Lucy. "I have the strangest feeling."
"What's that strange feeling?"
"Someday, you and I are gonna get married."
"Married?! Married?!"
Schroeder was so surprised, he rolled on the floor laughing. Then, he got back on the piano.
"Well, are there any reasons you wouldn't wanna marry me?"
"I don't like you. You're always crabby. And you're too bossy."
"Really? Come on, Schroeder! What is wrong with a pianist and a psychiatrist getting married?" asked Lucy innocently.
"Well….." Schroeder said…..
"Ah!" Lucy said slyly. "You can't think of the problems? In that case, there's just one thing for it!"
Lucy waited for Schroeder to go to sleep, and when it was night time…..
"I've got to get Schroeder's attention, and there's just one thing for it."
Lucy noticed that Schroeder's parents had forgotten to lock the doors. She snuck in and took the piano out of Schroeder's place and replaced it with a picture of her.
"Schroeder will never suspect a thing." Sniggered Lucy.
The next morning, Schroeder got up and went to play his piano when….
"AAAAAAAUUUUUGH!" Schroeder screamed.
*In the cinema*
Linus saw what his sister had done, and burst out laughing. Lucy overheard, and after noticing it was her brother, she shot a glare at him.
"Oop." Linus hushed.
*Back to the big screen*
"Lucy: One. Piano: Zero!" Lucy said to herself.
"Where's my piano?!" shouted Schroeder.
Schroeder burst into the Van Pelt place to search for his piano.
"Lucy! Have you seen my piano?" he asked.
"Er… I think some termites ate it and changed it into a photo of me." Lucy lied.
"Is that so, Lucy?" asked Schroeder.
"But not to worry, Schroeder." Said Lucy. "That means you'll be seeing me more often, right?"
Lucy rubbed her nose over Schroeder's. Until…..
"My piano!" Schroeder cried happily.
Schroeder looked over towards the closet and there was his piano. Schroeder ran up to the piano and hugged it.
"Don't ever leave me again!" Schroeder smiled.
"Rats! I was so close too!" Lucy grunted.
THE END
*In the cinema*
Every stared at the screen in confusion.
"Was that exciting or what, Little Folks?" asked Franklin.
Everyone was silent, but Linus just burst out laughing.
"I see someone was entertained by this movie." Said Franklin.
"I don't care if my brother's the only one laughing." Lucy said with determination. "Schroeder and I are gonna win this festival!"
"Anywho," Franklin continued. "next up is the movie by me, Marcie, and Peppermint Patty: Lost in the Library."
"Look, Produce Sir! Our movie is playing!" called Marcie.
"Yeah! I'm up!" Peppermint Patty said.
*On the big screen*
"Peppermint Patty Productions Presents: In Association with Marciemax Films: Lost in the Library."
The movie features Marcie walking into the library, and standing outside to wait for Franklin.
"Say, where's Franklin?" asked Marcie.
As soon as she'd asked this, Shermy walked out.
"Sherman. Have you seen Franklin?" asked Marcie.
"He's already inside, Marcie." Said Shermy.
"Phew. Thanks, Sherman." Said Marcie.
Marcie walked quietly into the library to search for Franklin. Upon walking in, she found Peppermint Patty fast asleep while reading.
"Sir? Sir?" asked Marcie.
Marcie walked over to Peppermint Patty and shook her.
"I'm awake, Marcie! I'm awake! The answer is five!" Peppermint cried, startled.
"Quiet, Sir. This is a library." Said Marcie.
"Searching for me?" asked Peppermint Patty.
"No. I'm searching for Franklin." Said Marcie.
"He must've gone into this book I'm reading." Said Peppermint Patty.
"But how am I gonna go in there, Sir?"
"With help from… The Great Houndini!"
Up walked Snoopy the Great Houndini.
"Really, Sir?" asked Marcie.
Snoopy tapped his paw, and waved his wand. Then, Marcie landed in the book Peppermint Patty was reading.
*In the cinema*
Floyd noticed that Peppermint Patty and Marcie were sitting right behind him.
"Wow! I didn't know magic was possible!" exclaimed Floyd.
"Snoopy's no ordinary dog, Floyd." Said Peppermint Patty.
"I'd like a dog like that, Sir." Said Floyd.
"Excuse me? I'm the producer of the movie."
"I mean…. Produce Sir."
"That's more like it."
*On the big screen*
Marcie found herself in a weird land. There were letters, numbers, and a paper cut-out land.
"Wow! So many letters! So many numbers! What kind of a place is this?"
Marcie would soon find out. A knight would come over to her.
"Ah, brave knight! Are you here to help me?" asked Marcie.
The knight removed the helmet to reveal…..
"Peppermint Patty?" asked Marcie.
"That's Sir Peppermint Patty to you, Marcie!" said Peppermint Patty.
"What are you doing here, Sir?"
"I'm here to help you on your adventure to find Franklin."
*In the cinema*
"Good grief. That reminds me of a weird dream I had last year." Said Charlie Brown.
"Quiet, Big Brother." Said Sally.
*On the big screen*
Marcie and Peppermint Patty explored all over the surreal land, but couldn't seem to find Franklin.
"It's no good, Sir." Said Marcie.
"Let's get out of this weird world. Great Houndini!" Peppermint Patty called.
Snoopy tapped his wand, and out of the book popped Marcie and Peppermint Patty.
"Whoa!" Marcie cried.
"That was weird!" said Peppermint Patty.
"Marcie?" called Franklin.
"Franklin?" quizzed Marcie.
Marcie looked toward Franklin.
"Franklin! I found you!" cried Marcie.
Marcie hugged Franklin, happy she'd found him.
"Good grief." Sighed Peppermint Patty.
THE END
*In the cinema*
"Wow!" everyone cheered.
Many little folks clapped their hands.
"Did you like my movie, guys?" asked Franklin. "Next up is a movie by Emily Jones. Let the movie speak for itself!"
*On the big screen*
"Emily Jones Entertainment Presents: Slow, Slow, Bird, Bird."
Emily was at the dance studio, practicing her dancing skills when who should arrive but….
"Snoopy?"
There was Snoopy, and on his head was his little avian friend Woodstock.
*In the cinema*
Snoopy watched the movie and chuckled. He was in two movies in a row. Woodstock chuckled too.
*On the big screen*
"Come dance with me, Snoop!" Emily said.
Woodstock chirped his normal bird sounds.
"You wanna dance too, Woody?" Emily asked the little bird.
Woodstock nodded.
"Well, alright."
Woodstock got off Snoopy's head, and moved his wings forward for Emily to grab with her hands.
"Slow… Slow… Bird Bird! Slow…. Slow…. Bird Bird!"
Woodstock felt Emily lifting him with her hands while dancing with him.
"Slow… Slow… Bird Bird!"
Woodstock simply sighed.
*In the cinema*
"That's the very same move Peppermint Patty tried to teach me." said Charlie Brown.
"Is that right, Charles?" asked Emily.
"I was unable to because I had to do an assignment that break." Said Charlie Brown.
"It's just as well you'll learn from my movie."
*On the big screen*
"You enjoy that dance, Woody?" asked Emily.
Woodstock was so dizzy from Emily's dance, he didn't know what to chirp.
THE END
Everyone gave a nice applause to Emily's movie.
"Was that entertaining or what? Next up, it's Violet Gray's movie!" Franklin called.
"At last! My movie is next!" Violet cheered.
*On the big screen*
"Gray Swanson Incorporated Presents: How Violet Became Generous."
The movie opens with Violet Gray sitting in her living room, thinking about what to do.
"What sort of a film should I do? I've got it!" Violet asked herself.
Violet went over to the Van Pelt place, only to find Linus sucking on his thumb and holding his security blanket.
"You and your crummy blanket!" Violet said angrily.
*In the cinema*
"Hey! That's my expression!" Lucy said angrily.
"Lucy, pipe down!" called Schroeder.
*On the big screen*
"I know just what to do with this blanket." Smirked Violet.
Violet kicked Linus' knee, causing him to jump in the air and throw his blanket into the air.
*In the cinema*
"So that's why she kicked me." Linus said.
*On the big screen*
"Got it! Now, I'm going to surprise him later." Violet smirked.
Violet walked over to the Browns' place and knocked on the door. Who should open it but Charlie Brown.
"Oh. Hi, Charlie Brown." Said Violet.
"What do you want, Violet?" asked Charlie Brown.
"I need your dog, Charlie Brown." Said Violet.
"What for?"
"It's a secret."
Violet walked into the Browns' backyard to find Snoopy's doghouse, but no Snoopy.
"Rats! No Snoopy! Oh well. His doghouse will have to do."
Violet dragged Snoopy's doghouse all the way out of the Browns' residence with loads of effort.
Later, Violet was at her house with loads of stuff, including Schroeder's piano, Snoopy's doghouse, Linus' blanket, Heather's nibbled pencil, Janice's pink bow, Emily's phonograph, Peppermint Patty's baseball glove, and Marcie's glasses. Patty S. came over and was surprised.
"Violet? What is all this stuff?" asked Patty Swanson.
"This stuff? Oh, everyone's been buying this stuff for me." said Violet.
"Who?"
"Linus, Charlie Brown, Heather, Emily, Janice,"
Then Violet said dreamily….
"Schroeder."
"And why are they buying it for you?" asked Patty Swanson.
"It's Christmas!" Violet lied.
"It's not Christmas, Violet!"
"Really? Well, because it's Valentine's Day."
"It's not Valentine's Day! It's January!"
"Really, Patty? Oh. Then it's Australia Day."
"It's not Australia Day! And we're in America!"
"Oh. Then….. it's my birthday." Violet lied.
"It's not your birthday!"
"Alright. I'll level with you, Patty. I'm going to wrap them up as gifts to surprise them."
Over the next night, gifts were right in front of the Van Pelts' house, the Browns' house, the Wolds' house, Schroeder's house, the Emmons' house, the Johnsons' house, the Rheichardts' house, and the Jones' house. At their respective places, Linus, Charlie Brown, Heather, Schroeder, Janice, Marcie, Peppermint Patty, and Emily opened their gifts, and much to their surprise….
"Hey! This is the same thing that was taken from us!" Charlie Brown cried.
"Oh come on! I was just being generous!" Violet said.
THE END
*In the theatre*
Almost all the little folks booed and hissed at the movie, showing their hatred for it.
"Patty! Are they booing me?" asked Violet.
"Not really, Violet." Said Patty Swanson. "They're just shouting 'Boo-tiful movie!'."
"Settle down, everyone! Settle down!" called Franklin. "It's time for the next movie! This movie is by Charlie Brown: The Success of a Failure."
*On the big screen*
The movie opens with Charlie Brown sitting on the bench, thinking about lunch time.
"Hello." Charlie Brown said as a voiceover. "This is Charlie Brown. And I'm going to tell you the story about how I became a success after many years of failure. It all began when I got heckled as a blockhead by various girls, especially after failing many sports."
Charlie Brown threw the baseball, only to get sent out of his clothes.
*In the cinema*
"Wow. I never thought Brownie Charles had so many misfortunes." Said Peggy Jean.
*On the big screen*
Charlie Brown went over to Lucy's psychiatry booth.
"I would even get some psychiatry, most of which wasn't proven to be useful."
"What's wrong, Charlie Brown?" asked Lucy onscreen.
"I can't seem to do anything right, Lucy. I can't win baseball games. I can't even kick footballs." Charlie Brown sighed.
"Come on, Charlie Brown. I'll hold the football for you, and you come kick it."
Lucy held onto the football and Charlie Brown ran to try and kick it, only for Lucy to pull it away and for Charlie Brown to land on his back.
"However, all of that was about to change when a certain someone with bright red hair moved in."
The scene showed Heather walking in, bright red hair, aquamarine bow sitting in it, turquoise dress. Charlie Brown was immediately smitten.
"I had to impress her, but how? Well, I tried to perform my magic show, only for Sally to fail at hers, to which I came to the rescue. I tried to dance as well as I could at the winter dance, only for my slip up. I willed to celebrate Charlie Brown Day, only to admit I indirectly cheated. I did the book report on my own while she was away, but the report was blown to pieces by a plane."
*In the cinema*
"There's so much emotion in this movie." Said Janice.
"I never realised Charlie Brown had gone through so many rough times!" said Frieda.
*On the big screen*
"When I heard that this girl would be my pen pal that summer, I was surprised. Why would she choose me despite my failures? I had to stop her before she left for Summer Camp, and when I succeeded in talking to her, I found out why."
"You were compassionate for your sister at the talent show, you were brave and funny at the winter dance, you were honest at the assembly, and you were sweet, writing the book report in my absence. I don't see a failure at all. Oh. I have to go now." Heather said onscreen.
Summer was slowly drawing to a close, and Charlie Brown waited for Heather. At last, the bus arrived, and the last one to step out.
"When the Summer was over, there she was, the most beautiful girl stepping out of the bus."
"Oh. Hi, Charlie Brown." Said Heather.
"Heather! You kept your promise!" said Charlie Brown happily.
"Of course I did!"
And Heather ran to hug Charlie Brown, causing him to blush.
"Don't worry, Charlie Brown. You're going to have more of me in your life." Heather said.
"And that was how a failure became a success." Charlie Brown finished.
THE END
*In the cinema*
Almost all the Little Folks in the cinema gave a wild applause. Even Frieda was moved to tears. Marcie and Peppermint Patty were move to tears too. Sally was moved as well.
"I'm still proud to be your little sister, Big Brother." Sally said happily.
The next day, Frieda, Linus, Janice, Five, Floyd, Shermy and Charlotte Braun were at the park, deciding on which movie should win the grand prize. Frieda had a notepad and a piece of paper as well as a pencil, determining the votes.
"Alright, folks." Said Frieda. "It's time to vote for the grand prize of this festival. Since I started this jury, I cast the first vote."
Frieda drew a one next to Charlie Brown's movie, showing her vote. Next, she passed it over to Janice, who also voted Charlie Brown's movie. After Five, Floyd, Shermy and Charlotte Braun made their votes, they handed back the notepad.
"Let's see." Frieda pondered. "Janice votes Charlie Brown's movie too. Floyd voted Peppermint Patty's movie. Five voted Peppermint Patty's movie. Shermy voted…. Violet's movie?! Charlotte Braun voted…. Violet's movie?! Seriously?!"
"COME ON, FRIEDA! IT WAS A GENEROUS MOVIE!" yelled Charlotte Braun.
"Come on, Charlotte Braun! It might teach children that stealing is okay!" Frieda said angrily.
"IF I VOTED ANOTHER MOVIE, THEN VIOLET MIGHT CALL ME A BLOCKHEAD AGAIN!"
"O….kay." Frieda sighed.
Then, Frieda turned to Linus.
"Alright, Linus. Two against two against two. Your vote to break the three-way tie."
Frieda handed her notepad to Linus, and waited for his vote. Linus handed back Frieda's notepad, and Frieda was shocked to see…..
"Linus voted for…. Lucy's movie?! Seriously, Linus?" Frieda exclaimed.
"Aw, come on, Frieda! It was a hilarious movie!" laughed Linus.
"Tell you what, Linus." Said Frieda. "Watch every movie again, and change your mind. And bring my notepad with you. When you're finished, come back with your tiebreaking vote."
"It's a deal, Frieda." Said Linus as he held out his hand to shake Frieda's.
"Watch the curls, Linus." Giggled Frieda.
After Frieda and Linus shook, Linus left to rewatch the film festival. As Linus returned to the cinema where the film festival was, there was Violet on her way home.
"My plan is working perfectly!" sniggered Violet. "I hope to win the festival! That will show my fellow students to respect Good Old Violet Gray."
Later, Linus came out of the cinema, erased his vote from Lucy's movie and changed his vote. Linus returned the pencil and notepad to Frieda.
Oh! I think I know who the winner of this festival is!" smiled Frieda.
The next week, everyone was gathered up for an assembly to announce the winner of the film festival. All were dressed in their finest. Frieda was called up to the stage.
"Thank you, everybody!" said Frieda. "This film festival has been as wonderful as my naturally curly hair, hasn't it?"
"O…..kay." said Linus.
"Now what are we all here for?" asked Frieda. "Oh yes. To announce the winner of our film festival."
Violet was in the audience with her fingers crossed.
"Oh, I hope Linus voted for my movie!" smirked Violet.
"Anyways, let's go over the winner of our film festival!" Frieda announced.
A drum roll played, as Frieda opened the envelope. Linus gave a toothed smile. Frieda read the name. The winner is…..
"Charlie Brown!"
"Wha?!" Charlie Brown exclaimed.
"What?! Are you kidding me?!" exclaimed Violet.
"Rats!" grunted Lucy.
Charlie Brown got out of his seat while Heather watched him approach the stage, still clapping. As Charlie Brown stepped on the stage, Frieda kissed his right cheek. Heather looked on and shot a semi-angry glare. Charlie Brown simply blushed.
"Thank you, everyone. It is an honour!" said Charlie Brown.
"Congratulations, Charlie Brown." Said Frieda. "And enjoy your prize. A year's supply of dog food!"
"Dog food? Good grief!
Then, Charlie Brown thought.
"Quiet, Charlie Brown! This means you won't have to feed Snoopy yourself for a year."
Then he spoke.
"Oh yeah. Thank you! However, this prize doesn't just belong to me and me alone.
"Huh?!" Everyone was puzzled.
"Since Snoopy belongs to Sally too, she can have my prize too. And Heather has her own dog, so she gets half the prize."
"Wow! We win too!" Heather and Sally cheered.
Once the assembly was over, Charlie Brown and Heather went home with their wagons of dog food. They held hands on their way. Linus agreed to walk Janice home.
"That was an honourable thing you did, Linus." Smiled Janice. "You voted your sister's movie first, but after you deadlocked the votes, you changed your vote to Charlie Brown's. Well done, Linus."
Janice kissed Linus' right cheek. Linus, feeling the kiss, blushed redder than the shirt he normally wears.
"Oh….. er….. heh heh heh." Linus chuckled.
As Charlie Brown and Heather reached their houses, Heather spoke.
"Thank you for giving half of your prize to me, Charlie Brown. And congratulations!"
Heather kissed Charlie Brown's left cheek, and went across the road with her wagon of dog food. Charlie Brown blushed with pride. Not just from Heather's kiss, but because he'd won something. And the something was the film festival.
