Attack on Titan

The Journal of Jason Wolf

A group of scouts stands over an open field of Titan corpses slowly disintegrating in the center of the carnage is a lone Scout Soldier laying against a tree covered in blood and unconscious yet remains unnoticed.

"Jason!"

"JASON!"

"Hey, Wolf! Where are you!?"

Erwin the Leader of the Scouts lands in front of everyone "Levi? Any sign of him?"

Levi shakes his head, "the carnage is too wide spread there's just too much ground to cover."

Erwin sighs "It's too bad he was a great soldier he had the potential to be as great as you one day."

Eren shouts "What's that mean!? He's not dead! There's no way he could die, not like this! He…!"

Sasha bursts into tears "No… it's a lie right… he can't be."

Suddenly they hear Jean shout "Guys! Over here! He's unconscious but still breathing!"

Everyone run over to where Jean was standing and see him and Erwin smiles "Alright… come on let's get him back before more titans show up."

Levi nods "You heard the Captain everyone let's move out!"

Jason Wolf is hauled off into a carriage but as he does his journal falls from his hands Hange is the only one to notice.

Hange picks up the journal and flips through it quickly and is astonished at the level of detail "Oooh… this is interesting, I need to go over it properly back at base."

Several days later Hange enters the Hospital room with everyone looking over Jason Levi and Erwin look up and give Hange a puzzled look as they see her excited face.

Erwin is the first to ask "Hange, what is it?"

Hange shows him the Journal "This fell off our friend here as he was being brought back home. He is incredible, some of the things he's written down I was there for and he detailed things I didn't even think of or missed entirely!"

Mikasa nods "Jason always noticed the little things even when we were kids."

Hange smiles "I know! It's not exaggeration to say his notes may very well lead to further success in the future."

Everyone sighs depressed "Great…"

Hange confused "What's wrong? This is a day for celebration."

Levi whacks Hange over the head "Idiot, the guys still out cold, and you just admitted to going through his personal belongings."

Hange realizing "Oh, hehe sorry got a bit overly excited there. What have the doctors said?"

Conny sighs "They say they've done everything he can all that we can do is wait and pray he wakes up."

Eren clenching his fist "This sucks! There must be something we can do!?

Sasha gasps "Maybe there is! Maybe we can help him back to us! Show him his fight isn't over!"

Jean sighs "What're you talking about!?"

Sasha chuckles "A few years before I enrolled at the Academy, a kid got real sick in my village and wouldn't wake up, so the village gathered round and talked to her reminded her she still had something to live for, and she woke up so if we do something like that maybe Jason will wake up too."

Conny thinks "Hmm, I dunno… maybe."

Mikasa nods "It's worth a try!"

Jean sighs "But how… like none of us are really great with expressing ourselves even to an unconscious friend."

Sasha snatches the Journal from Hange "With this! We start from the beginning and read it to him!"

Mikasa smiles "Let's do it!"

Sasha nods and she opens the journal

"My name is Jason Wolf, if you're reading this then I must have fallen in battle, I request that after you finished reading it you return the journal you are holding to any of my friends that still live."

Everyone looks around saddened by the fact he has put this in writing meaning he knew he would fall in battle one day.

"My life has not been easy and I may not have gotten my revenge but I do not hold any regrets. As it has been filled with happiness and friendship. I guess I should start back in the beginning. I was born to a small but loving family, me my mum, my dad and Grandpa. Grandpa lived inside Wall Rose he was a Merchant by trade but came to visit during holidays. I lived a fairly normal life I went to school and hung out with the local village kids. My best friends were Eren Jager, Mikasa Akerman, and Armin Arlet, I remember the day we first met like it was yesterday."

Armin being beaten by a group of bullies "Ack! Stop it!"

Bully #1 smirks "Take it back you nerd!"

Armin shouts "I won't do it! We can't continue to live like livestock inside these walls! Our future resides outside! Towards Freedom!"

Bully #1 shouts "You punk!"

Eren shouts while running "Hey! Leave him alone!"

Bully #2 groans "Not him again! It's Eren!"

Bully #3 afraid cries "Not just him! Look who's with him, that crazy girl Mikasa!"

Bully #1 smiles "Not to worry boys I got a plan!"

Both look up desperate "What!?

Bully #1 laughs then runs off "We run!"

All start running when Jason sticks his leg out and trips them over and acts all innocent "Oh my god I am so sorry" he says sarcastically "It sucks when someone comes along and ruins your day, isn't it!?" without giving the bullies a chance to respond he knocks them out.

Armin stands up with the help of his friends and sees Jason "Hey, I know you… Jason Wolf. I've seen you around."

Jason nods "Yeah. I live near the ferries to the inner walls. Those guys were jerks so I taught them a lesson" he smiles.

Eren wraps an arm around Jason, "you know something… I think we're gonna get along just fine. What day you wanna join our little group?"

Jason smiles "That sounds great… I don't have a lot of friends."

Mikasa smiles ever so slightly "Well you got 3 now."

"The years passed by in blur Me, Mikasa, Armin, and Eren joined at the hip, I learned Eren dreamed of Freedom and wanted to join the Scout Regiment to do that. Mikasa felt obligated to Eren so would follow wherever he went. Armin's parents had left the safety of the wall to seek out freedom, no one knows if they're alive or Titan puke but they sought out freedom so Armin wants to seek it out too. I had no such connections or aspirations it's not that I don't feel claustrophobic inside these walls just I don't have the courage to seek out Freedom on my own for no reason, I thought I'd stay in the family business work for Grandpa and become a Merchant too… but life has a funny way of giving us the unexpected."

XX/XX/845; The Fall of Wall Maria

The day started like any other; Me, Eren, Mikasa, & Armin met up Eren and Mikasa had just helped Armin escape a bunch of bullies beating him up we all decided to hang by the river.

Eren throws a stone into the River "Damnit!"

Jason looks up at Eren "What's up?"

Armin whispers "Apparently Mikasa told Eren's parents that he wants to join the scouts when he comes of age."

Jason shocked "Oh, wow! You grounded for life or something?"

Eren shakes his head "Nah, dad seemed pretty cool about it though. It's mum who freaked out!"

Mikasa shrugs "I'm not apologizing, I did what I had to, she deserved to know the truth."

Jason shrugs, "Well, I kinda agree but you should've let Eren be the one to tell them."

Eren smiles, "Thank you!"

Mikasa sighs, "Your right, it's just when we saw the scouts return all messed up, it made me worry for you is all…"

Eren groans, "So what!? They're fighting for freedom, even if they fail time and time again they always go back out there knowing they could die! There's a reason they wear the Wings of Freedom on their back! Someday I'll wear them too."

Armin nods, "Same here! My parents sought out freedom, if I join the scouts maybe I'll see them again, if I don't… I still wanna know what the sea looks like, the ocean made out of fire all the things the world has left to offer. I want to know why they left the safety of the walls and why freedom enticed them so!"

Mikasa sighs, "Well, you know I'll be there by your side too. We've been together so long it'd feel weird not going with you."

Jason chuckles, "You guys are incredible."

Eren raises an eyebrow, "How do you mean?"

Jason smiles weakly, "I'd be too afraid to go outside the walls, I… I can't even fathom having the strength of heart like the three of you. I'm sorry… I'd love to say I'll be there too… but I'm too scared."

Eren smiles and slaps him on the back, "Hey, no worries. You'll be the best merchant in the walls, just give us a discount when you make a name for yourself huh?"

Jason chuckles, "I'll see what I can do. It ain't no charity, I'll still need to make some sort of profit."

Eren laughs, "True…"

Everyone starts laughing until suddenly there's huge crash and a rumbling that shakes the very ground tossing them into the air slightly.

Eren groans "Agh… what was that?"

Armin confused "Where'd that even come from."

Jason scared, "I think it came from the Town Square."

Mikasa concerned at Jason's fear "What makes you say that?"

Jason points at the towering Colossal Titan "Just a guess."

They all run to the town square and see the Titan with piles of steam radiating off it the entire town looks on in horror as the Titan towers over the walls looking down at them. Several of the towns people start screaming in terror, but that's when the Colossal Titan pulled back a leg and kicks the gate in sending another gigantic shockwave throughout the town sending ruble flying crushing houses, and people.

Eren shouts as he sees the direction a piece of ruble went "That's the direction of our house! MUM!"

Mikasa terrified, "Eren wait up!"

Both run away, Jason shaking too scared to move "What… what's happening… what do I do… what do we do… Armin?"

Armin slaps Jason, "Jason… quick we gotta go find Mr. Hans, he'll know what to do!"

Jason nods slowly, "Right… your right."

"It didn't take long before Armin found Mr. Hans and told him where Eren and Mikasa had gone, I later found out that Eren's mother was stuck under her house it had collapsed on her and her lower half had been creolized, Hans tried to save her, but a Titan filled him with terror, so he took both Mikasa and Eren and ran for it. Meanwhile I found both my parents, and Armin found his Uncle, Armin and his Uncle were lucky enough to get to the Ferry before he showed up… me and my parents… we weren't as fortunate."

Jason's Father picks Jason up, "Jason there you are! Come on quickly, we've got to get out of here!"

Jason's Mother kissed Jason's forehead, "I know your scared, but Dad will put us up inside Wall Rose, we just gotta get there in time."

Jason's Father nods, "Stay strong Jason… be unafraid like the Wolf!"

Suddenly the gates behind them start cracking and a massive Titan breaks through, it looked almost like it was covered in Armor, as it smashed through it sent chunks of debrie hurtling into the sky then fell back down towards the ground.

Jason's father knew it was going to hit them and he only had a few moments to think in those moments he threw Jason out of the danger zone and shouted "Jason! I love you! Stay strong!"

Jason's Mother knowing it was the end sent Jason and air kiss and with tears in her eyes shouts, "We will always be with you, and we will always be proud of you. Live you have to live Jason!"

Jason terrified scrambles to his feet hand outstretched trying to get to his parents, "Mum! Dad! Noooo!"

"It was too late, the debrie crushed them into paste… a Soldier passing by saw me not wanting to move and saw the Armored Titan, he grabbed me and took me to the Ferry. I would later learn that the man who saved me was Commander Pixis, he had been visiting an old friend when the attack happened. I happened to be put on the same Ferry as Eren, Mikasa, & Armin. None of us could speak to each other, what we had witnessed was horrifying, I was no longer scared to go outside the walls, after today it proved that not even the walls were safe. Then something happened that inspired me more than anything any adult had said to try and comfort me."

Eren stands up and walks to the edge of the Ferry and both Mikasa and Armin look worried, Armin even tries to speak to him, "What's wrong Eren?"

Eren simply pushes past him to the edge of the Fery and screams "I'LL KILL THEM! I'M GOING TO WIPE ALL TITANS FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH! NO TITAN WILL ESCAPE MY WRATH!"

Jason looks down at his tears then wipes them away, and stands next to Eren, "I'm with you! Those Titans killed my Parents! I'm going to kill that Armored Titan! Any Titan that gets in my way will regret the day they were born!"

Both Eren and Jason look at each other with a determined face and lock arms and say in unison "To The Extermination of Titan Kind!"

Both Mikasa and Armin look worried at both of them but decided it best not to say anything.

"We soon arrived in Wall Rose, my grandfather was waiting, he had hoped to see all three of us, me, my mum, and dad, he was heartbroken but glad I was safe, Eren, Mikasa and Armin were taken to a Refugee camp till something more permanent could be set up. Apparently Eren's father returned to speak with him, but then disappeared once again soon after. There was a food shortage issue that arose inside the Walls so the King ordered that anyone 50 years old or older was to participate in a retake Wall Maria everyone involved was killed by Titans, the upside that their deaths decreased the mouths to feed which gave us more time. I felt bad for my friends having to suffer, while I got to live in luxury in comparison, so I asked my Grandfather if they could stay with us. He had felt lonely since my parents died and thought it a great idea."

One night during dinner, Mr. Wolf, Jason, Eren, & Mikasa all sit around eating food and happy to be alive but there was an tension among everyone, both Eren & Jason had a black eye, Mikasa had a few scraps and bruises and Armin well he looked nervous but that wasn't new.

Mr. Wolf asked, "So, anyone gonna tell me why you two look like you just escaped a warzone?"

Eren sighs, "It's nothing, just some dumb soldiers being jerks."

Armin sighs, "They called us, scabs, and moochers and even said out loud the titans should've eaten us too."

Mr. Wolf looked furious, "Who said that! I'll have their job!"

Jason, "It's fine we took care of it."

Eren and Jason smiled then winced in pain and held their black eye, "Ow…"

Mr. Wolf sighs "Okay what did these two geniuses do?"

Mikasa sighs, "Eren tried to attack them but I held him back so he started shouting insults at them, Armin tried to calm Eren and the soldiers down but Jason jumped and punched the first Soldier in the face he fell down and was knocked out cold, Eren was able to get loose and he did the same to the other guard but he was ready this time, he punched Jason gave him a Black eye."

Armin sighs, "I took care of him, made sure it wasn't too bad, Eren started whaling on the other soldier eventually overwhelmed and knocked him out too."
Mr. Wolf laughs, "Really now, then what happened?"

Mikasa frowns, "Well the noise had caused a commotion and more soldiers showed up, Armin tried to explain the situation but they weren't gonna let it go, Eren thought he could take them all on, so I punched him. The lead soldier arrived and forced the others to disperse, he then took us to a nearby hospital to get Eren and Jason looked at."

Mr. Wolf, nods in understanding "Really now? Who was it?"

Jason smiles, "It was the same guy who saved me after mum and dad were… well you know."

Mr. Wolf smiles, "Saving you is becoming a habit of his. I'll need to thank him, did you catch his name?"

Eren smiles, "Even better, we got his recommendation."

Mr. Wolf's smile fades slowly… "What do you mean?"

Jason smiles, "Well in a few years we'll be old enough to enroll in the Military, but to get in we need to pass a written exam, he's offered to skip that part so long as we come by his house once a week for some personal tutoring and training and we can just get in to the Training Crops."

Mikasa nods, "His name's Dot Pixis, I think he said."

Mr. Wolf, "Pixis!? Commander Pixis wants to personally train you three?"

Jason, shakes his head, "Not three, Four. I'll be doing it too."

Mr. Wolf, "What do you mean, your going to take over my business and become a Merchant, that's what you always said you'd do…"

Jason sighs, "Only because I was scared, scared of the titans, scared of outside the walls, scared of disappointing you, mum and dad. But none of that scares me now. The Titans are a threat to everyone both inside and outside the walls, eventually they'll break through to Wall Rose too, and eventually Sina will fall. But I'm not gonna sit around and wait for that, we're gonna take back the Walls from the Titans!"

Mr. Wolf dropped his cutlery "Are you saying what I think your saying?"

Jason nods, "I am… I'm… no we… We're Joining The Scouts!"
