Dream Magic and his cousin Flurry Heart were in the former's backyard. They're quietly sitting at the picnic table, drinking some fruit smoothies. Between them was a young adult novel. The cover showed a maple leaf with the words "Whispering to Witches" written on it. Plus, a scarcely visible wind sprite underneath it. The author of the book was Anna Dale.
Flurry Heart spoke first. "I'm thrilled we've ultimately finished the book. I've been dying to chat with you about it for ages!" the pretty twelve-year-old informed her younger cousin.
Her eleven-year-old cousin gave her a slight frown. "I wish you're a little more patient, cuz. I'm not a bibliophile like my mother. I may love reading, but it isn't an addiction like it is for my mom," the cute boy remarked. Everyone in town knew his mother, Twilight Sparkle, had a serious book addiction. Many people, including his father Fledge, felt she took it to an unhealthy level.
"Yes, Aunt Twilight sure is addicted to books. Didn't your father try once to make her go cold turkey? Hiding every book and her library card for a week?" questioned Flurry Heart. She hadn't seen her cousin for a few months now. So she wasn't sure what was going on at his house.
"Yes, and she nearly went catatonic from it!" chuckled the little boy. That had been a genuinely amusing sight! His father even snapped a picture of it with his smartphone!
"Well, I do hope your mother learns to cut back some. So shall we talk about the book we just finished reading?" Flurry Heart eagerly asked to which her adorable cousin nodded.
"Well, Flurry, I'm not surprised the book takes place in the UK, seeing how the author is British," as he pointed to the blurb regarding the author.
"Neither am I. People tend to write what they know. It's easier that way. So what's your impression of Joe Binks?" Flurry Heart asked curiously. After all, the characters of any story are vital in making it sink or swim.
Dream Magic quickly replied, "Well, he seems to have a fairly normal reaction when his father says they won't celebrate Christmas together as he has to help his sick aunt. Therefore, Joe's initial dismay is extremely understandable. It becomes even more understandable when we read about his feelings towards his stepfather Gordon and his peculiar little sister Esme."
"I'd agree that adjusting after a divorce and remarriage isn't easy for any child. Its especially not easy when they reside in a different city. Of course, the real fun begins once he's on the train! Since he's ignorant to the fact that he's sharing his compartment with several witches!" Flurry Heart was gushing with excitement at remembering that part.
Dream Magic smiled at his cousin's enthusiasm. He was incredibly giddy about this part, "Well, why would he even consider that? Since its only when he gets off at the wrong stop and ends up at the Dead Nettle Coven, he even learns that witches exist! Yet, he's exactly what young Twiggy needed."
"Yep, she's exceptionally lonely being such a young child with elderly people. Since at this time, they don't know the reason why the last two decades the magical population has been declining," Flurry Heart conceded.
"Well, it's amusing all the spells themselves. Or the fact they all come from a book written by someone with the most poor penmanship ever!" chuckled Dream Magic. Both of them had laughed hysterically when Joe learned why it had taken over two hundred years for Mabel's book to be appropriately translated!
"Yet, that's part of the mystery since the translator extracted the missing page. Since no one even knows why she did it!" Flurry Heart exclaimed excitedly.
"Yep, Joe and Twiggy's entire adventure to solve the greatest mystery of witch kind is amazing! Then to find out, the one who figured things out was an ordinary mousy librarian who suffered at the hands of her glamorous witch twin sister!" Dream Magic reminded his cousin of the massive twist towards the end.
"Yep! Or how simply reading various books, she found out why the translator yanked the page out of the original book. Like she said, focusing on one and ignoring the other was easy! Since the dangerous spell was on the other side!" Flurry Heart exclaimed passionately.
"Thankfully, Joe, Twiggy, and his little sister prevented her from utilizing the Flabbergast Potion to wipe out the magical community! Or how she was much more content after a few memory spells," Dream Magic smiled happily.
"Or how Twiggy made sure that Joe's father was found alive and well. Everything worked out by Christmas Day. It was a true miracle indeed!" Flurry Heart finished with a high-pitch squeal.
"Yep, it was a delightful read, without a doubt. I can't wait till we both find another book to read and chat about. So do you want to go inside now? I believe there are some fresh cookies in the cookie jar," Dream Magic suggested.
"I'm all for it! I hope they're chocolate chip!" as the two preteens scampered inside for a sweet treat!
