Jean. Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius. Elite swordswoman known as "The Dandelion Knight" who martial prowess is only matched by the mysterious Darknight Hero. The most respected individual in all of Mondstadt. To the average citizen, she was a superwoman. To a Knight of Favonius, she was a paragon of virtue. To Klee, she was a second mother. And to most outsiders, she was one of the greatest women who had ever lived.
And right now, she was doing whatever it took to not become a blushing mess over the local winemaker and her personal librarian.
Allow me to explain.
It all began the day after the Stormterror incident. In celebration of their victory, Diluc hosted a small party at the Dawn Winery for all of them to enjoy. With some pressure from Venti and the traveler, Jean finally agreed to take part. She threw on a dress she found in her closet, did her hair and makeup the best she could, and tried not to look like a complete imbecile as she tried to remember how to "mingle" at a party.
To be completely honest, she was a lot more stressed than she looked, having absolutely no idea where everyone else was getting such levity. They all had bright smiles on their faces as Venti played song after song, while all she could think about was what she'd have done if she hadn't survived the ordeal with the dragon. She had barely touched the fine wine that Diluc had opened for the occasion. In fact, by the time she had finished one glass, Venti was already drunk enough to the point where he and the traveler suddenly started singing a song about some sort of dancing queen.
Just then, she spotted Diluc. Perhaps it was wine, or maybe just her exhaustion, but she couldn't help but think he looked especially ravishing in his fancy tuxedo. The tight jacket emphasized his strong muscular figure, and the sleeves and pants showed off his long thick arms and legs. It reminded her of other social events they'd attended together when she was still his junior. Such fond memories… it wasn't well known among the town, but Diluc had taught her so much about being a knight, that she had always believed she owed at least half of her success directly to him. In fact, she probably wouldn't be the grand-master in the first place if not for the power-vacuum he left once he quit the Knights.
"Excuse me?"
The sound of his gentle, soothing voice brought her out of the clouds.
"I couldn't help but notice that you and I are the only ones still sober," he said, motioning to the rest of the winery. "I'm pretty sure I didn't even give the traveler any alcohol. Must be that bards doing, no doubt."
"Well, there's a reason they're the honorary knight," Jean said, blushing slightly when Diluc turned to face her.
"You know, I bet you and I could probably slip out without anyone noticing. I know this type of setting isn't really your element."
"I… would like that," she said, as Diluc offered his hand. Hesitantly, she took his offer, and he gracefully led her outside into a clearing near the winery. Diluc had always been a gentleman, there was no doubt in her mind. She recalled back to some of the other girls at the academy gossiping about how badly they wanted to be his girlfriend. She was never one for wasting time on such silly things as romance back then.
That being said, she could definitely see where they were coming from.
"I didn't get a chance to say it earlier, but you look absolutely stunning tonight," he said, quite suddenly one might add. Jean blushed and tried to return the compliment.
"A-as do you sir Diluc, I-mean…" she turned even redder after using his old title, but he simply laughed and glanced at the moon.
"Old habits die hard, I see," he said. It was rare to see him so friendly looking, yet Jean knew she was one of the few people to see him smiling.
"I'm sorry, I just…"
"No need to apologize," said Diluc, the moonlight reflecting off his shining red eyes. "You know, I recall a very similar evening to this one, about five years ago. Tell me… do you still dance?"
While it went against what Jean thought was her better judgement, being so close to one she admired made her forget about her other values.
"I don't… but I still remember."
"Then, may I?" Diluc gently placed a hand at her waist. Jean smiled and nodded, and the two gently swayed in the light of the moon. While Ventis music had ceased to play, the two of them could already hear the melody of their memories guiding them from step to step. To Jean, Diluc was her perfect complement, one of the few who shared an appreciation for organization and ability, be it in winemaking, swordplay, or of course, dancing. Yet, even for people who had spent years studying the art, dancing with each other felt as natural as a walk down a familiar road.
Without realizing it, she began to gaze into his amber eyes, as they shared a blissful moment in that perfect night. As they danced, Jean for the first time began to really notice just how hot he was. From his practical yet entrancing haircut, to his bold yet lithe figure, to his shapely ass and powerful legs, and of course his enchanting face of a gentleman, it was enough to make any girl turn into a blushing mess. Of course, Jean was not any girl. She was a lady.
Their dance ended as abruptly as it began, and they found themselves sitting on a bench in silence. Once again, Diluc was the one to break it.
"Jean…" he reached behind him and picked a flower off of one of the arrangements. "I know you and I have our differences, and we may disagree on a few things, but…"
He presented her with the blossom, which she cautiously accepted. Not because she didn't know what he was about to do, but because a part of desperately wanted to be right.
"I think I've fallen in love with you," he said. "And, if you feel the same way, I'd want to be your partner. Not just in business or politics, but in a personal sense as well."
Jean looked in awe as Diluc gazed into her eyes just as passionately as he had all those years ago.
"I…" she tried to come up with a response, but everything just seemed to be moving so quickly. A relationship with Diluc? A part of her thought that was the most wonderful thing that could be imagined, yet the other part was screaming that this would set her plans back by weeks.
"I won't ask for an answer now," Diluc said. "I know how you work with these things. If you feel the same way, come find me. You know where I'll be."
Without another word, Diluc headed back inside, leaving Jean as starstruck as the night sky.
The great thing about paperwork was that it was a great distraction from other matters. Whenever she felt her mind begin to wander, she could always easily brin herself to whatever sheet was currently in front of her. The sound of her quill scratching, the rustling of papers, the smell of ink and parchment, there was something so oddly therapeutic about immersing one's mind into the thralls of words and numbers. While normally she'd have called it a night by now, Diluc's offer weighed heavily on her mind, and thus she was spending a few extra hours.
Did she feel that way about Diluc? Was she even ready for a relationship? Could she spare the time for one? How would Klee feel about it?
Ah, that was a variable that she hadn't considered yet. From a purely functional perspective, she was Klee's primary guardian in place of Alice. While it was something that she had taken on as a result of circumstance, she had in fact recently began to see Klee as her own daughter as of late. She figured it was only fair, if Alice couldn't spare the time to look after Klee on her own, then she had every right to take on a little bit of motherly privilege in her place. That aside, if she got into a relationship, it would have to be with someone who would get along with Klee. After all, stripping away some other technicalities, she was technically a single parent and that would greatly affect any potential romantic endeavors.
But back to the subject, she had always admired Diluc as a superior, sure, but as a lover? It was true that the affection she held for him was great. In fact, he was one of the few people whom she felt she could undoubtedly be a woman around. When in her professional state of mind, it was all logistics and stability. The fact that she was, in fact, a lady as opposed to a being of pure logic, was often pushed to the back of her mind. It was rare for her to experience such a feminine feeling of endearment, yet what else could she describe her relationship to Diluc as?
As such thoughts filled her head, she began to feel the hands of exhaustion begin to creep. She tried once again to focus on her work, but at this point her eyes were feeling like lead. Just as she felt the last of her energy drain away, she felt something soft and warm press against the side of cheek. She blacked out not seconds later.
When she awoke, she was greeted by a pair of emerald, green eyes.
"Morning sleepyhead," Lisa smiled brightly as Jean rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
"Hey Lisa," she murmured. "…Were you watching me sleep?"
"Maybe I was," she giggled. "You make the cutest sounds!"
The sound of Lisa's cheerful yet oddly seductive voice made Jean subconsciously begin to smile, as it usually did. Even when she was teasing her to the point where it was almost irritating.
"Come on, I made you some coffee, and Noelle will be bringing our breakfast soon," she passed her a warm mug of brown liquid. Jean instinctively took a sip. A dollop of cream, a little honey, and a dash of cinnamon. Exactly the way she liked it.
"Thanks Lisa…" she said. Lisa smiled before casually sitting on her desk. Normally she'd call her out for inappropriate behavior, but she was too tired. Lisa seemed to be taking full advantage of this, and teasingly pulled out her skirt, revealing her wonderfully thick thighs. Jean blushed and glanced away.
"L-Lisa… that's not appropriate for the workplace."
"Come on, I know you like seeing it," she said, leaning in close at just the right angle to give the grand master a great view.
Jean closed her eyes as she continued to drink her coffee. Whilst it was embarrassing to think out loud, Jean found Lisa to be incredibly sexy, and Lisa knew it. Of course, she had been repressing a lot of her sexual desire for most of her life, and she wasn't about to stop now because of a flash of thigh.
In all honesty, Lisa was a miracle in her life. Always there whenever she passed out cold in her office, always there to comfort her when things went south, always there to look after Klee whenever she had something important to do, always there…
"Wait, the papers- "
"Relax, I took care of them!" Lisa said. Jean stared at her incredulously.
"…What?"
"Oh, come on, I'm not some lazy slob," Lisa said. "I can do a little work. Stress isn't a good look on you."
She playfully poked Jean's nose, who blushed even harder.
It was true. Whilst Lisa was far from an overachiever, she always got her tasks done and not much else. Perhaps such an approach was favorable when it came to keeping her cheerful attitude.
Lisa had always been a cool beauty; her witch's outfit sold this better than words. Jean had always secretly envied her confidence to wear such a revealing dress knowing it would get stares everywhere she walked. Well, she supposed being able to electrocute anyone with just a flick of her hand helped with that. And it wasn't like Jean herself didn't get stares, if not for a different reason.
Still though, watching Lisa crawl on her desk without a care in the world made her forget about whatever stressful thing was bothering her.
The more she thought about it, the more she realized how good Lisa was at distracting her from her problems. A silly thought crossed her head, perhaps her sexy witch getup was purely for that purpose alone?
Luckily, just as her thoughts began to cross into… adulterous territory, a knock on the door was heard.
"Master Jean? Miss Lisa? Your breakfast is ready!"
"Oh, thanks Noelle!" said Jean, relieved that Lisa's teasing was probably over.
Oh, how wrong she was.
For whatever reason, and Jean was quite sure she knew the reason, instead of two separate stacks of her famous lighter-than-air pancakes, Noelle had instead prepared a single much taller than normal stack on a big plate. Jean watched as Lisa was already chewing on a forkful.
"Mmm! Delicious as always!" she said. "Have some Jean. Say ahhh~"
Before she could respond, Lisa had already placed a bite of pancake into Jean's mouth from the same fork. The witch watched in delight as she awkwardly chewed, yet the grand master couldn't find it in her heart to complain. She had no idea how Lisa did it, but she always found herself acting so differently than usual whenever the two were in the same room. Perhaps the purple witch had put a spell on her…
Jean blushed at such a silly thought. Maybe she'd have bought into something like that when she was a child, but as an adult she knew there was no such thing as a charm spell.
Then again, Lisa had an odd way of making Jean feel younger. Possibly it was her playful demeanor bringing out her inner child, or mayhap it was her lazy attitude making her want to do the same.
Or perhaps it was a more Freudian explanation relating to Lisa's… ahem… assets.
Whatever the reason, Jean found herself happily going along with Lisa's whims whenever she was tired. Thus, the two girls ended up feeding each other pancakes for a while, even occasionally smearing a little syrup on each other's faces.
Then, before she could even process it, Lisa leaned and locked lips with her. The sheer shock from it practically fried the grand master's brain. When she parted, Lisa smirked and licked her lips.
"A little syrup on your lip," she said.
"Oh… uh…" Jean turned red as a strawberry from the pancakes. Lisa laughed again, and Jena was entranced once more by her succulent voice.
"Still though, not bad for our first kiss would you say?" she said. That sure enough slapped Jean back into her senses.
First kiss? Sweet lord Barbatos, that was her first kiss! And it wasn't with Diluc!
…Why wasn't she that upset about it?
"Wait, what?" Jean slowly backed off. Lisa's cheerful face went from endearing to devastated in mere seconds.
"Oh… uh…" the witch realized she'd gone too far and turned away. "Sorry. I thought… did you really not…?"
"Lisa do you… see me that way?"
"…Wasn't it obvious?" said Lisa, making a poor attempt to lighten the mood again.
The two of them stood in silence for many seconds.
"…Well shit, this is awkward," Lisa tried to pass off the uneasiness with a laugh. "Lemme guess. You're straight?"
"Huh? Oh no, I'm bisexual," Jean said. She had figured that out when she was younger. Seeing beautiful female knights had certain awakened something in her.
"I see," Lisa slowly shuffled closer, a hint of curiosity in her voice. "Is there anyone else you're seeing?"
"Not… exclusively," Jean bit her lip. She had a feeling that bringing up Diluc's profession of love at this time might not be the best idea.
"Okay…" Lisa said. "Then… allow me to do this properly."
Lisa cleared her throat and began to approach her.
Then, she suddenly hit the wall behind Jean, dramatically closing the distance between them. Jean stared up at Lisa's gorgeous face.
"I love you. Will you go out with me?"
"I umm…" Jean said, stunned as a frozen slime. While Lisa could be as sweet and gentle as a velvety embrace… she could also be a thunderstorm from time to time. "I… I need some time to think about that. B-But can I see you again later?"
Lisa let out a sigh before nodding. That wasn't the answer she wanted.
"No matter what you say to me, I'll always be the librarian, and you'll be the acting grand master. No silly feelings will ever change that."
And with that, she exited the room without sparing another glance. Jean let out a sigh.
It was true. She was in fact developing feelings for Lisa. At first, she thought it was just the result of being near such a beautiful woman, but soon it began to be something more. Lisa was… well. She was the chaos to her order, the ying to her yang, the heart to her soul… being with her wasn't like being with Diluc. Diluc was orderly, disciplined, and bold. But Lisa was playful, relaxed, and dare she say it… seductive. Those sensual poses, the way she spoke, the way she touched her… she only ever did that to Jean. Spending time with Lisa was like watching a wild animal. Wild and chaotic, yet immensely enjoyable.
And of course, Jean had always known she was attracted to both men and women, and Lisa was certainly no exception. A sweet and sultry face, rich full lips like a flower in bloom, voluptuous curves running down her body, huge firm breasts, perfect legs, porcelain skin… she was a goddess, no, a succubus. She found Diluc unbelievably sexy as well, of course, but her attraction to him was like to a song she loved or her favorite flowers. Lisa… she was a forbidden fruit, something she wanted oh-so-badly, but feared for the consequences.
Thinking about it, she came to one conclusion.
She was in love with both Diluc and Lisa.
Well crap.
Diluc let out a sigh as he looked up at the Statue of the Sevens set underneath the enormous oak tree in the middle of Windrise. He checked the letter in his hands one last time. Yep, this was the exact point where Jean asked him to meet. And based on the nature of the location, he was pretty sure this wasn't going to be business as usual. Well, there was only one thing to do, and simply accept whatever decision Jean made.
He never expected to fall for the woman, yet he fell harder for her than almost anyone else. She was beautiful, yes, but more than that, she was a woman with a good head and a strong heart. Her accomplishments spoke for herself, yet she never gave into pride or sloth like others. Possibly the only person in Mondstadt who could understand what the freedom they enjoyed truly cost. And above all else, she treated him not as a distant outcast, but as a close friend. She was one of the only people who could make him feel… normal. Almost enough to make him forget about his father.
It took almost all of his courage to express his feelings to her. A part of her still thought himself foolish for thinking that someone like him could ever be with someone like her. But what point was there for harboring feelings if not to at least take a shot in the dark? And even if she preferred them as friends, then at the very least he could have closure on that regard.
Well, no matter what happened, the two of them would only see each other that night…
"Diluc, what are you doing here?"
The sound of the librarian's voice shook him out of his line of thinking. Lisa was standing just a few feet away.
"Oh, it's you," he said. "I'm just waiting for someone."
"Ah, likewise," she said. He then noticed the piece of paper in her clutches.
To tell the truth, Lisa was a tad annoyed. She was hoping that this would be a lovely quiet night for just Jean and her to share. The last thing she wanted was a third wheel ruining their romantic evening.
She had always admired Jean as a leader and a fighter, but when they began working together as Grand Master and Librarian respectively was when she began to see the real her underneath all of the titles and glory. The overworked, overstressed, and adorable girl that hid away from the rest of Mondstadt. How could she not take some time to take care of the poor thing?
Unlike all of the pretentious snobs back at the Sumeru Akademiya, Jean was as caring and honest as they came. She had always made sure everyone was cared for and accounted for, even at the expense of her own health. Lisa couldn't help but find her dedication admirable, if not a little bit foolish. Not to mention, the reactions she got whenever she flashed a little bit of skin for her were just too adorable! Falling head over heels for such a lovely person seemed like such an obvious thing that she was surprised Jean didn't have people climbing over each other to ask them out.
And she was looking forward to this night so much that she had actually left the library to think of what to tell Jean. And now she would have to contest Diluc for this spot.
Wait… who was Diluc of all people waiting for?
Could it be… no, that would be ridiculous… unless…
"Since we're both here, something I need to know," Lisa said. "What do you think… of Jean?"
She had to know. Put such a ridiculous notion to rest.
"Hmm?" Diluc blinked. "That is… a difficult question. If you are referring to simply what I think of her, I believe she's doing a far more than adequate job as Grand Master…"
"No, not like that!" Lisa said. "Do you… have feelings for her by any chance?"
"How did you know?" Diluc said. For the first time, Lisa saw the slightest hint of a blush on his face. "As a matter of fact, I told her as such shortly after the Stormterror incident. And… tonight is when I hope she will respond."
Lisa stared in shock for several seconds before the pieces clicked in her head.
"Since we're on the subject, who are you waiting for?" Diluc said. Lisa wasn't the kind to leave her home unless it was either for something important. As a matter of fact, it must be a very important for her to stay up past curfew.
"Oh good, you're both here!"
The two of them then suddenly noticed the appearance of the Grand Master.
"I was worried there'd only be one of you when I arrived, so I decided to show up a little bit late. Thankfully I can trust you both to be punctual."
Lisa looked between Diluc and Jean several times before she suddenly scowled
"You bitch!"
With a flick of her hand, a bolt of purple lightning struck Jean in the chest, sending the knight stumbling. Not a moment later, Lisa's body began to light up with Electro.
"Jean!" Diluc exclaimed, before swiftly rushing between her and Lisa. "What are you doing?"
"I spilled my heart out to you! I offered you everything I had! And this is how you repay me? Making me watch you choose that… that… snobbish tavern owner over me?"
"Wait, Lisa, I- "Jean started to explain, but Diluc interrupted.
"You would hurt her for such a petty reason? And you think yourself worthy of her affections?" he said, drawing his blade. "I can see now why Jean never returned your feelings."
"You think you're better than me because she chose you?" Lisa growled and revealed her spell book. "Blitz!"
Diluc shoved Jean out of the way of the incoming Electro attack, before igniting his blade with Pyro. He charged the witch who narrowly stepped away from the strike, before letting loose a burst of sparks, striking Diluc across his body.
"I would've been fine with a simple no…" she growled, tears falling from her eyes. "But you went out of your way to hurt me! You'll pay for this, Jean!"
Lisa couldn't think in that moment. Even if her rational side was trying to say she was making a mistake, she was running on pure rage as the sky above her began to turn purple.
"Please, let me- "Jean tried to explain again, but Diluc was already preparing another strike.
He ignited his blade again and swung in a wide, arch, this time managing to hit the side of Lisa's torso. She let out a grunt of frustration and began charging another spell, but Diluc interrupted her with a punch to the gut. Forgetting about the romance, he let the Darknight Hero instincts take over as he moved to protect Jean no matter what.
"Time for…" flames began to surround him. "Retribution!"
In that moment, Lisa began to rise into the air, summoning a ball of Electro in her hand as bolts of lightning struck down from the sky, which began to turn a shade of purple as bolts began to fly in every direction. In that moment, the entire world to her was nothing save for the two people in front of her.
"Surrender and I'll be gentle!"
But before they could hurl their respective elemental bursts at each other, Jean swiftly sprinted between them.
"Wind, hear me!"
She brandished her sword, the area around her glowed bright green and rough winds filled the battlefield. She then turned on Diluc and struck his blade, extinguishing his flames with a mere touch. Then she aimed towards Lisa, thrust forth with her winds, and the dispersed her lightning just like that.
She then sheathed her sword, causing the winds to vanish.
Well… so far this was going horribly. She cursed herself for not thinking about either of them misinterpreting the nature of the letters she sent. The two people she loved most were fighting, and now she had to fix it.
"This is all my fault. I should've been clearer about my feelings, and now you two are paying the price for my mistake," she said. Diluc and Lisa gave her questioning looks.
"Your fault?" Diluc said. "If I'm not mistaken, Lisa was the one who struck first for no reason."
"Your feelings?" Lisa said. "Wait, you mean…"
The witch did a double take.
"…is HE the one getting rejected?" she asked. "I mean… if that's what's going on, I hope you chose me but if not- "
Lisa then blushed as she realized the double standard in her logic. When she lost her temper against an abyss mage or a drunkard, she barely lost any sleep. But the woman she loved most in the world… that was more of an issue.
"I'm afraid it's not the simple, Lisa," said Jean. "The thing is… both of you have told me about your feelings for me. But it's very difficult for me to respond to either of you alone because… well…"
She took a deep breath.
"I love… both of you."
Lisa blinked.
Diluc spoke next.
"Are you implying… you'd rather have both of us as close friends then one as your lover?"
"I mean I want both of you as my lovers," Jean said, smiling awkwardly. "Plural."
Lisa stared silently for a few seconds. Then she began to laugh.
"Is that all?" she said, in between guffaws. "Oh my gosh… wait, are you serious?"
While she'd never said it out loud, Lisa knew a thing or two when it came to taboo romances. The topic of polyamory had never once crossed her mind.
"I am," Jean said. She took a deep breath. "Diluc. Lisa. I've been thinking a lot about our relationship. And I realized that if I were to choose only one of you, then I'd be lying to both of you. This is the only fair way I can confess to you two."
She turned her former senior.
"Diluc, you've been the one I've looked up to for years, and you've helped me through the hardest parts of my career. Not to mention… you've always been incredibly handsome, yet you're so determined. I can't help but admire all the ways you stick to your goals and stay determined no matter what. Not to mention, you do so much for Mondstadt as the Darknight hero. And I'd love for the two of us to work together as partners. I feel as if when I am with you, I can handle any challenge, even the Archons themselves. Perhaps it was only a few weeks ago, or maybe it was shortly after we met… but I know now that I am definitely in love with you."
She then turned to the librarian.
"And Lisa. You've always been there whenever I couldn't handle the strain. You've never once judged me; you've even looked after me even when you didn't have to. I know you go around saying you don't particularly care, but I can see that you really care. Quite a lot actually. I'm incredibly grateful for everything you've done for me. In fact, you're an extraordinary person. Beautiful, intelligent, caring… you complete me in every sense of the word. You make me smile even on the worst of days. I want to make you happy, as not a leader, but a lover."
She then spoke to both of them.
"You two… are the most wonderful people in my life. I want to be with you, both of you, and make you happy. I know that this is a bit selfish of me but… I hope you understand just how much you two mean to me. When I saw you two fighting, it broke my heart for a moment."
Lisa and Diluc exchanged a guilty expression.
"And that is why… I want to be the girlfriend to both of you!" Jean said. "Or just one of you if the other changes their mind about me! Or neither if this whole thing is freaking you out! I'll be fine, I promise!"
Right now, the grand master had reduced herself to a blushing mess. Well, she had just spilled her heart out to not one but two people. Two, very wonderful, very hot, people.
Lisa and Diluc stood there in silence and glanced at each other.
"I'm not into guys," Lisa said, turning to the redhead. "Though… I suppose I can understand what Jean sees in you."
"The feeling is mutual," said Diluc. "I won't lie. This arrangement… while unconventional, I can definitely see the advantages of it."
"Of course, you'd be looking at it like that." Lisa said. "Well, my feelings haven't changed. And I guess you could do worse than Diluc. You know what, I'm willing to share you as long as I can be yours."
"I agree," Diluc said. Then he smiled. "I'm very pleased, Jean. I'll do my best as your lover…"
Lisa's eyes went wide.
"…you can SMILE?" she said.
"Is… is it that uncommon?" Diluc said.
Jean let out a giggle, distracting both of them.
"I love you so much!" she ran in and embraced both of them. Diluc and Lisa exchanged knowing glances before returning the hug.
