This is about a girl named Athena. Until she was only eight years old, she had a faithful life. She lived happily with her mother and father in a big house in Ohio. It was a great life, they had each other with their hopes and dreams.
They also had their desires as well. Then one day, a terrible thing happened when Athena and her parents were on their way home from an amusement park. A drunken driver caused their car to crash into a ditch and killed Athena's mother and father.
This as you can well imagine was a horrible thing that can happen to two gentle parents. Their own troubles if they have any at all were over in a speeding bullet. At least it was quick, they were dead and gone in fifteen seconds flat.
For Athena however, her troubles were just the beginning. She was sent away to live with her step uncle who is her father's step brother and he's called James. He's a really horrible person and right from the start, he started to beat Athena for almost no good reason at all.
He treated Athena like a slave and made her wear rags and make her do all of the chores in the house. He even made her sleep in the basement. As time went on, Athena became sadder and more lonely than ever.
Athena was abused, humiliated and forced to become a slave to her step uncle. After Athena lived with him for two years, there came a time when Athena did something unthinkable. Something that she should've done before when she lived with her step uncle.
She decided to run away, but she wasn't sure when.
