I think Sabine has ADHD and one of the ways it shows is a hyperfixation on art. If you ask her a question about art, you'll have an answer. The answer will be in the form of an extremely detailed infodump. Yes, this fic is partially inspired by my own ADHD/autistic infodumping. Ezra is on the receiving end. And, yes, she spent all day hyperfocusing on her painting, so she forgot to take her meds. There will be a lot of descriptions of her painting because I need to put the image into your heads. This is part crackfic partly my need to spread ADHD acceptance.

Ezra was a bit bored. Kanan and Hera were off on a date for their anniversary and Zeb and Chopper were both watching a holonet movie that Ezra didn't like. That left Sabine. Ezra made his way to her room, but she wasn't there. Reaching out like Kanan had been teaching him, Ezra realized she was in the cargo bay. He also noticed that she was very excited about something, so she was probably painting. He rushed down to see her.

"Hey, Sabine!" She was too busy adding finishing details to a design she was putting up on the wall to notice, so Ezra decided to sit down and watch her work. Sabine was patting her leg rapidly with one hand while she sprayed green highlights on the drawing, obviously far too caught up in her art to react kindly to being interrupted.

It was an interesting design to look at. It resembled the starbird crest she tagged wherever she went, but also had a more uneven wing design that reminded Ezra of something he saw in Kanan's room and seemed more ragged, like it was trying to regrow after losing something. Not as large or as grand as Ezra felt it should be, but knowing Sabine, that was the whole point. The starbird was bright orange that was blended into yellow near the wings, which quickly became a crisp shade of green on the tips.

The background was just as interesting to look at, although Ezra didn't quite understand some of the choices Sabine made. The wall was primed in a shade of bright yellow, but almost entirely covered by a crisp gray that seemed uniform at first glance, but seemed to be a bit thin in some spots and in others, not even there. In front of the gray, though, was a yellow star with 8 points, reminding Ezra of a star, but the top point was longer than the rest. It was almost the exact same shade as the backdrop. In front of that, the starbird.

Sabine finished spray painting the final details and turned around. "How long have you been watching me paint?" Ezra rubbed the back of his neck. "A few minutes. What's the painting about?" Sabine's face lit up and Ezra could feel her pleasure at being asked about her art. "Well, it's a combination of symbols of hope that's meant to show the rebirth of the Jedi and hope that the Rebellion inspires in the galaxy!" Ezra nodded, but Sabine wasn't finished yet. "You see, the gray is meant to show the Empire and the yellow backdrop is meant to be what remains of the Republic. The yellow star shape is a part of the symbol for the Jedi Order. Some would mistake it for a lightsaber, but the Jedi Order began before the invention of the lightsaber and their symbol is actually a winged sunrise! I used it as a spark of hope and rebellion shining through the Empire's oppression. And of course, this ties into the starbird's wings which are meant to resemble the jedi crest! You see, what I did was combine my starbird with a preexisting symbol that also showed hope! Also, the color is important, since the yellow sunrise is hope for rebirth. The starbird symbol is extremely important too since starbirds, otherwise known as phoenixes, are a symbol for rebirth in themselves! Legends tell that a starbird can never truly die and if they appear to be gone, they're renewing themselves in the heart of a nova! A starbird combined with the jedi crest means that the jedi appear to be gone, but aren't really. The colors orange and green are meant to represent you and Kanan! You two are pretty much the last jedi and are keeping the entire culture alive! Of course, the starbird is small and ragged because of the purge leaving so few jedi alive, and those who survive are torn apart and on the run, but the point is that the jedi are still around and that there's hope for the rebirth of the Republic that you contribute greatly to! Now that people are fighting back, the Empire is becoming weaker and more desperate to maintain its hold, but the more they oppress people, the more people will join the Rebellion!"

Ezra was shocked that so much meaning could fit into one simplistic painting and even more shocked at how fast and loud Sabine talked when she got so excited. Sabine began braiding and unbraiding her hair rapidly. Ezra paused to make sure she didn't have more to say before saying "I didn't know so much could fit in one picture." Sabine replied "Well, if you think this is impressive, you should see some of the murals back on Mandalore. Maybe I could show you a holopic of some of them sometime!"

Ezra wasn't sure what to say. Still, it was kind of interesting to learn the meaning behind her art. "Why not?" he said. Sabine looked pretty excited about being able to share her passion with someone. She gave a fist pump and told him "Maybe I could actually start by telling you about some of my own paintings." "That sounds fun!"

Zeb and Chopper walked into Zeb and Ezra's room a few hours later. Ezra, by then, had paint splattered on him. Zeb took one look at them and said "You asked Sabine one question about her painting, didn't you?" "Yeah," Ezra responded, "But now I know way more about art than I did yesterday." Zeb sat down. "Let me guess. You said she could show you some of her other paintings?" "Mhm." "And she ended up getting you to learn to paint and do your own?" "Exactly." "Been there." Ezra looked down to Zeb's bunk. "Not that bad. We're going to be working on color theory tomorrow." Zeb sighed, just hoping that he wouldn't have to come to class.

This fic was kind of hard because it was writing ADHD from the way a neurotypical would see it. I am definitely not neurotypical. I based this off one of my own infodumps on a similar subject. I decided Ezra's actually going to take an interest in Sabine's art because I don't want to write ADHD as something annoying that is to be tolerated, but as something different, but not bad. Let me know if I overdid something like the reaction. Writing an NT reaction is hard work. I do know I got the infodump about right because of the way I talk about my hyperfixations.
