Adrien sat up in bed, his mouth had begun to feel funny during the night, like something was loose. Wiggle, wiggle. Adrien slid out of bed and walked over to the mirror. He wiggled his tongue against his teeth, trying to figure out the strange feeling. One of his teeth moved back and forth, and a grin spread over Adrien's face! He had a loose tooth!
"Mother, I have a loose thoof," Adrien said proudly, walking into the kitchen. "A loose tooth! That means your getting to be a big boy," Emile said, picking him up and twirling him. Adrien giggled delightedly. He loved Mother, and he loved it when she spun him. Emile put a bowl of oatmeal in front of him and turned back to the stove. Adrien poked at his bowl of oatmeal, a question at his lips. "Mother, what happens when the tooth falls out?"
Emile stopped humming and joined her son at the table. "Well, you put it under your pillow and wait for the tooth fairy." "A fairy?" "Yes, she's a very special fairy, for her palace is made of teeth and she's always needs new ones. As a thank you, she leaves a coin under your pillow while your asleep."
"Maybe I could buy a new stuffie!" Adrien and given his stuffed frog to Felix after his frog fell in the pond. "The tooth has to fall out first, love. Now, finish your food and then you may go out and play."
Grinning, Adrien did as he was told. Wiggle. Wiggle. Ugh, this tooth was stubborn! Adrien wiggled it during his photo shoots till his Father shook his head. He wiggled it in the bathtub while playing with his rubber ducks. But must of all he wiggled it in bed, until….. "My tooth came out!" Adrien showed his mother as she came in for a bedtime story. "How does your mouth feel?" Emile asked. Adrien shrugged, even if it was a little sore. He wanted a stuffed animal that he could snuggle with at night.
Emile cleaned Adrien's tooth and wiped Adrien's face, before reading a story, which tonight of course was about the tooth fairy.
The very first thing Adrien did in the morning was look under his pillow. Why, there was a shiny gold coin! He couldn't wait to tell Mother, and a gap-toothed smile grinned back at him as he brushed his teeth.
"Why, look at that. Very well, we'll go to the toy store this morning."
Adrien clutched his mother's hand as he stared at all the toys that lined the shelves. There were so many! Even if he wanted a stuffed animal, he should look around first, shouldn't he? He looked at the other toys, but when Adrien saw the black cat with the golden bell around his neck, he knew this cat was for him.
However, he wasn't expecting the cat to be almost as tall as he was. He trotted a few steps then tumbled. Rip! Adrien's gasped, tears welling up in his eyes. A small patch of stuffing peeked out and Adrien begin to cry. His new toy that he had worked so hard to get was ripped, and it wasn't even home yet.
Adrien felt a tap at his shoulder, and look around expecting it to be his mother. But no, a young girl around his age with black pigtails stood there. "What's wrong?" "I hurt my kitty. I tripped, and his stuffing came out!" The girl sat down with Adrien. "Don't worry, I can patch him as good as new. What's your name?" Adrien sniffled, wiping the tears away. "Adrien." "I'm Marinette, but my parents sometimes call me the Knitting Fairy." Adrien smiled. "I lost a tooth, that's why I can get my kitty." Marinette's hands were quick and skilled, and when she finished, Adrien couldn't even find the rip. "Thank you. Maybe we could play together sometime." Marinette smiled shyly. "I'd like that."
She scampered away, and Adrien smiled. The Tooth Fairy might have given him a shiny coin, but Adrien liked this Knitting Fairy better. Maybe one day, this fairy and Adrien would be become the best friends. Adrien sighed. Now that was the kind of magic he liked. The magic of friendship.
