Relationships are Complicated

Italics- Flashback

Washington, DC: Succotash PRIME Restaurant

I'm late. This is the…I stopped counting after the last ten times.

Cognac-tufted leather booths, hand-painted murals, and plaster ceilings lend opulence to Succotash PRIME, a swish steakhouse that was made for anniversary feasts. Steered by James Beard Award-winning chef Edward Lee, Succotash's menu marries Korean flavors with Southern American cuisine. Housed in a historic landmark building, this 10,000-square-foot Penn Quarter hotspot is all about setting lasting impressions.

Diana Prince quickly walked into the restaurant wearing a stunning v-neck midi long sleeve wrap front ruched detail red velvet thigh length dress. All eyes were immediately on her.

I'm not even sure what I'm going to say…

"Ah, Welcome, Ms…?" The waiter smiled and bowed slightly.

"Prince. Reservations for Mr. Keith Griggs?"

Major Keith Griggs was an United States Air Force officer, working along side Colonel Steve Trevor, Etta Candy and Lt. Lauren Haley out of the Pentagon.

"Yes, ma'am! Right this way!"

Upon walking up to the table, Diana saw Keith with someone else.

"Oh?" Diana questioned.

Kieth glanced up then double took. "Diana? You finally made it."

"Hello, Keith…"

There was a slightly awkward pause but then Keith stood up to hug her and gave her a quick peck.

His kiss always lacks passion and even more so now.

"You remember Lauren, right?"

Diana looked to see Lieutenant Lauren Haley. She smiled as Lauren stood up.

"Yes. It hasn't been that long since I haven't been to the Air Force, Keith."

"How have you been, Diana? I see you on television all the time for your work at the UN."

"Oh, yes, I've been quite busy with that. That's why I'm late actually."

Keith shook his head slightly. "Lauren kept me company with a few drinks so it's not a problem at all."

Another moment of silence.

"Well I should go."

"No, stay for a bit. Eat," Keith said.

"Oh, no. Maybe next time. The week has caught up with me."

"Are you sure?"

Lauren glanced at Diana, who remained silent. "I'm sure. I'll see you Monday, Keith. It was nice seeing you again, Diana."

"Wait, I'll walk you out." Keith quickly moved to help Lauren put on her coat. "I'll be right back," he told Diana.

Diana sat down at the table. She turned and saw Keith walking Lauren out with his hand placed on her lower back. Diana turned back and took in a deep breath in then exhaled slowly.

I don't blame him. I haven't been the best of company from the moment we even started…whatever this suppose to be.

Then….

Diana of Themyscira travelled back to man's world from her home island with Colonel Steve Trevor. In order for Diana to get proper paperwork for citizenship, she took a job as Steve's assistant at the force, as well enrolled as a college student at Boston University. She lived with Julia Kapetalis and her daughter Vanessa until she graduated college and decided to move to London. However, she still remained working at the Air Force for a little while longer, secretly training when Wonder Woman made her official debut to the world.

No one except for Steve, Etta, Julia and Vanessa knew her to be Wonder Woman. To everyone else she was Diana Prince.

Diana Prince caught the eye of many at the Air Force and everywhere else she went, honestly. But she wasn't at all interest. Even Steve tried multiple times to ask her out but Diana made it clear she just wanted to remain friends.

Wonder Woman joined the Justice League the 4th year of being in man's world and established herself as a UN Ambassador as well as assistant Professor to Julia.

Fast forward 10 years in man's world, Vanessa and Diana's sister, Donna, tried their best to set her up on dates but all of them failed.

Visiting Steve and Etta at the Air Force a year and a half ago, she met up with Keith again.

"Diana?"

She looked up from Etta's desk and smiled. "Major Griggs?" She shook his hand.

"Yeah…" Keith was in awe of her beauty. "You look amazing."

"Thank you."

"What are you doing here? Have you come back to get your old job back?" He joked.

Diana laughed. "No, just visiting Steve and Etta."

"Ah! Well, I-"

"Sorry about that, Diana. Ready to go?" Etta asked walking up. "Oh, hey Keith."

"Afternoon, Etta."

"I didn't know you were back from Belgium."

"Just got back yesterday."

"Keith! Hey, man!"

"Steve, my boy! How you been?!"

"The usual! Hey, we are just on our way for lunch. How about you join us?"

"Oh, I don't want to intrude."

"No, no, not at all! It's nice to catch up! Right, Diana?"

"Yes, it is."

After that day, Keith and Diana exchanged numbers and began talking more mostly with the fascination of their travelings.

Keith had asked Diana on an official date a month later and although she was a bit hesitant she accepted. Since the first date was nice enough, she accepted a second date then a third…and so on and so forth. Though, schedules had been difficult to sync and the dates were quite far apart with weeks... even a month or two in between.

4 months had passed by…Matisse Restaurant

Keith walked Diana to her taxi.

"So…uh… I guess this is good night?"

"Yes. Good night, Keith. Thank you for dinner."

Keith took Diana's hand. "Wait…" He leaned in closer, to kiss her.

Finally, a first kiss…though it was quite underwhelming. Maybe it was because Diana was still a little hesitant or maybe it was how awkwardly forceful it felt. She couldn't relax into it. It also might have been the obvious message Keith was trying to send that Diana wasn't ready for. She still kept her guard up no matter how much she enjoyed the conversations.

Pulling away she glanced down then back up.

"So is this still good night?" he asked with a sly smirk.

Diana raised her brow. "Yes, this is good night."

He laughed. "Alright. I'll get a chance to show you some of my souvenirs back at my place at some point. Well have a good night, Diana."

When she got into the taxi, Keith closed the door for her. She waved as the taxi drove off and Keith waved back.

After that, their dates became even more sporadic. Diana was minutes to an hour late or cancelling at the last minute. Keith started to change a bit of his own because of this. At first he seemed to be understanding but it was becoming much too frequent. Sure, he traveled all the time and work was so busy he couldn't contact Diana for days either but for some reason, he could have that excuse but Diana couldn't.

Now…

"Are you hungry, Diana?" Keith asked sitting back down at the table.

"Oh, just a little bit." Diana noticed his sleeve with a dark red smear.

Lauren's lipstick. It's no surprise at all with Keith wanting to lead to more with almost every woman he comes across. Having a few drinks is a code for him I've became aware of unbeknownst to him.

"Okay. I'll order something light." He cleared his throat. "So how was your day?"

"The usual. Interviews, meetings, preparing for a couple of upcoming seminars and lesson planning with Julia."

"Ah, we'll I'm glad you were able to fit me in to your very busy schedule."

Diana looked up at him with only her eyes and raised her brow.

"I'm sure you were quite busy as well? Though, Lauren accompanying you was nice."

"Yeah…yeah... Lauren and I got a lot of work done at the base. I figured you'll be running late so invited her for a couple of drinks."

"Hm.." Diana nodded slightly.

"Hello, I'm Viv, your waitress for the evening," she smiled at Diana. "I already know Mr. Griggs' drink order. Also, did you want to keep your order even though Ms. Haley won't be joining?"

Keith glanced at Diana. "Oh…yes. Yes, I would. But cancel what Ms. Haley ordered, of course."

"Okay! And…What would you like Ms.?"

"Prince," Diana smiled. "And I would like sweet Tea. "For an entree, the delta rice bowl."

"Oh! Wonderful choice!"

"Tea?" Keith questioned. "You wouldn't like a glass of the finest champagne they have?"

"Not tonight. I'm sure you and Lauren had plenty on my behalf."

Keith chuckled and shrugged slightly.

"Alright! Your order will be brought out shortly."

Diana watched as Viv walked away.

"You and Lauren were going to also have dinner together, why didn't she stay?"

"It's suppose to be us, Diana."

"But you still told her to stay. She is the one that decides to leave."

"Maybe because you didn't make her feel welcomed enough."

"She didn't need my approval. She was already here and ordered."

"I didn't want to cancel the reservations at the last minute."

"While I understand that would be an inconvenience, it seems you still had other plans in mind even before you knew I would be running late."

"I didn't have any plan. We were working late a bit, too."

"So if you were working late as well, shouldn't there be an understanding for me?"

"I understand if it actually has to do with work but it's not. Not when Clark is always hanging around."

"Clark?" Diana frowned. "What does he have to do with anything?"

"Diana, come on. That guy acts like he is your bodyguard or something. You said you had interviews. I've seen how he takes advantage of that."

"Take advantage of what exactly?" Diana shook her head slightly. "Nevermind. I am under no obligation to explain myself but I have not spoke to Clark all day."

Though, he has been on my mind all day. He always is actually and I hope he is okay. He hasn't returned from his mission with the Lanterns yet…

"But that doesn't change any of the other times he has been around."

"Clark is always professional but he is also my best friend."

"Does he know you two are only friends?"

"What kind of quest-"

"Here you go…" Viv smiled setting their plates down. "Is there anything else?"

"Could you please have the checks separate. I'll be paying for my own," Diana said.

"Oh?"

"No, no, don't worry about it. I got it."

"No, I will play for it myself. Thank you."

Keith stared at Diana then sighed. "Fine."

"Oh…okay…" Viv walked away.

"Now, as I was saying," Diana began again. "Clark respects me and my feelings whatever they may be. He has been my best friend for a long time now. We have a professional working relationship. You have a professional relationship with Lauren. Comfortable enough for few drinks and dinner, right?"

"That's not what I meant. But nevermind. Let's just drop it. Start over."

Diana didn't say a word the rest of the time.

After eating, Diana really just wanted to go home. She paid for her own food and was leaving out of the restaurant ahead of Keith.

"Diana?! Diana, wait!" Keith ran out to her. "Diana!" He grabbed her arm but Diana yanked away from him.

"Don't ever try to manhandle me," she warned.

"Okay…" Keith put his hands up in defense. "Okay… I'm sorry. It's been tense. I know. It's okay. We haven't had time to really you know, enjoy each other. You refuse to come to my place and I don't get an invite back to your place. Do you not trust for us to be completely alone?"

"I'm just not ready for that, yet."

"Diana, we've known each other for years. Haven't been consistent, but casually having dinner counts for something. So we can casually go get a room. The night doesn't have to be over."

Diana frowned slightly. "Keith, that's-" Diana's phone buzzed.

Message from: Donna

Thank you, sister…

"I have to go. My sister needs me."

"What's wrong? I'll come with you?"

"No, it's a sisters' thing."

"Oh. Then I guess I'll check with you at some point."

Diana nodded slightly and was about to walk away.

"Diana?" Kieth unconsciously grabbed her arm again but quickly let go.

"As you said, the night doesn't have to be over. You should call Lauren to continue your night," Diana winked with a smile and began to walk away.

Kieth frowned then looked down and sighed. "Shit! Diana, wait." When he looked back up she was nowhere in sight.

Donna's Apartment

With a key Donna gave Diana, she quickly opened the door.

"Donna?" She called closing and locking the door.

She heard sobbing and sniffling in the living room.

"Donna?" Walking into the living room she saw Donna on the floor with torn photos all over the place. Diana gasped, "what happened?!" She quickly kneeled to Donna's side and pulled her into an embrace.

"All my work for that ungrateful old bitch!"

"Who?!"

"Mrs. Sandoval. She was already being difficult through the entire photoshoot! She got so mad because she felt it was good enough she broke my camera and said she wasn't going to pay me! So all her photos I tore up."

"Oh, no! Donna, I'm sorry. Don't worry I will get you a new camera and I will talk to Mrs. Sandoval for your payments."

"Diana, even if you talk to her, she won't pay."

"Trust me. She will."

Donna nodded and hugged Diana. "Thank you, Di! You are the best!" She then noticed the dress she was wearing. "I'm sorry, I'm ruining your dress!"

"No, you aren't," Diana smiled reassuringly.

"Where are you coming from?"

"I had dinner with Kieth."

"Oh, a date?! I'm so so sorry for taking you away from-"

Diana shook her head. "There's nothing to apologize for. I'm actually very grateful you messaged me when you did. I wanted to leave."

"What happened?"

"He was having much better company with a co-worker."

"Really?! What an ass!"

Diana laughed. "No worries. He and I aren't anything serious anyway."

"But Diana, you've been going out with him for a little over a year, right?"

"Having dinner here and there…if I'm even on time to get there or even if at all doesn't really mean much."

"Have you tried…you know…?"

"He has tried."

"Have you two even kissed?"

"Yes…but my feelings have not changed. I was interested in hearing of his travels but that didn't equate to me falling in love with him."

Donna smiled cheekily. "That's because you are in love with a certain Superman."

Diana gasped and blushed. Donna jumped up squealing.

"I knew it! You and Clark are so cute! But it's so annoying you two aren't making things official."

"Donna, he is my best friend. We don't have to be romantically involved."

"Oh, really? Who are you trying to convince?" Donna paused. "Hold that…" She ran into her room than came back with a box.

"What's this?"

"Some of my favorite shots. Ones that just capture such a beautiful moment that must be cherished and kept safe."

Donna looked through the photos and then smiled proudly giving it to Diana. Diana looked down and gasped.

"Donna!"

"So what about the whole not romantically involved part?"

The photo showed Clark and Diana in a corner alone together from the crowd in a very intimate embrace at Bruce Wayne's birthday party. Clark had his arms around Diana's waist lightly cupping her rear and Diana had her arms around his neck. Their faces only centimeters apart as they laughed and smiled flirtatiously amongst themselves.

"Oh, Gods!"

Donna laughed.

"What were you two talking about?"

"We…" Diana sighed. "Clark was just saying how beautiful I was that night. Joking about funny little things going on at the party. He…told me other certain things…"

"Like what?"

Diana blushed. "Things that are to remain just between me and him."

"Oh…wait…OH! You guys did it didn't you?!"

"No, we did not. As much as we both want to do those kind of things together….we can't."

"Can't or won't?"

"A bit of both. Kal and I cherish our friendship and don't want to lose it if things don't work out."

"Diana, you were gifted by Athena for goodness sake! You know you and Clark are like the perfect match!"

Diana couldn't stop smiling.

"You love him, don't you?"

"I do."

"Then tell him that!"

"I can't, Donna. Not just yet…at least."

"Well you need to tell him sooner rather than later. I mean of course he is waiting for you. He will always be waiting because that man is head over heels for you. But you shouldn't waste any more time not being together."

Diana sighed. "You are right. Let me help you get this all cleaned up then I'll head home. You'll be alright or do you want me to stay?"

"I'm alright now, Sis. Thank you so much!"

"I'm always here for you, Donna."

"I know! I'm always here for you, too, Di!" Donna hugged her.

2 hours later…London: Diana's Condominium

Diana sighed as she opened her balcony door. As she was just about to walk in, a very welcomed voice spoke out to her.

"I hope you don't mind a late night visitor?"

She gasped, quickly turning and without any hesitation flew up to the skies.

"Kal, you're back!" She embraced him as tightly as she could burying her face in the crook of his neck.

He chuckled. "I missed you, too. All I could think about was you."

"I thought you wouldn't be back until another two weeks or so?"

"Nah. You know me. Get stuff done as quickly as possible. Especially when I have someone special to come back home to."

Kal closed his eyes for a moment and held Diana just as tightly.

"Did I miss anything interesting?"

Diana looked up at him. "No, not really."

He cupped her cheek and stared into her eyes. "What's wrong?"

"I just came from Donna's. One of her clients wasn't too enthused with her photos. The woman threw a tantrum like a child and broke Donna's camera."

"Oh, no! Hey, don't worry, I'll get her a new one. But I'll add some advancements to it so it can't easily be broken or anything."

Diana smiled and kissed his cheek. "You are the greatest."

"It's nothing, Di. Donna is like a little sister to me."

"I will be going to speak with the woman who broke her camera later next week. Will you come with me?"

"Of course!"

"Thank you."

Kal pulled away slightly to get a better view at Diana's dress.

"Wow…"

Diana blushed.

"Date night with Keith?"

Diana sighed. "I don't really want to call it that."

"Uh oh. What happened? Wait…why don't we go somewhere else. Unless you want to stay here at home and we can talk inside?"

"I always enjoy our late night flights, Kal. So yes, we can, but I'd like for you to stay for a bit afterwards…?"

Kal kissed her forehead and nodded.

Diana flew back to her balcony to close the door. She then took her lasso and spin it around her body changing to her Wonder Woman attire.

"Ready?" Kal asked holding his hand out for her to take.

"Always…" she smiled taking his hand.

Their flight was quiet and peaceful. They glanced at each other from time to time when they thought the other wasn't looking. Their hearts soaring higher than they physically were.

Nordkette – Innsbruck

Innsbruck, the capital of Tirol in Austria, is situated in the Inn Valley and is surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Tirolean Alps. Flying into Innsbruck is an experience in itself! There are many peaks from which visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Innsbruck and the Inn Valley, however, the easiest and fastest is the Nordkette mountain. From its Hafelekar peak, just minutes from the city centre, visitors have a stunning view of the city and the surrounding mountains.

Kal and Diana sat of the edge of the highest cliff.

"It's beautiful. One of the many beautiful places all around this magnificent world."

"Yeah, and we still have so much more to see together."

"Kal…"

He wrapped an arm around her waist pulling her to sit closer.

"So tell me what happened."

"I was running late again. When I got there, he was already with a co-worker."

"They met up or…?"

"He said he figured I would be late and invited her to go with him."

Kal quirked his brow.

"She left awkwardly but the way Keith was tending to her, I know it's more than just something friendly. The thing is, I was so close to telling the truth about me being Wonder Woman."

"Woah…so you really are falling for this guy."

Diana frowned. "No," she said a bit sternly.

"Alright, so you really in liking?"

"It's not that either." Diana sighed. "I just wanted to be more honest. I can do so much of saying a UN meeting ran late when I'm actually dealing with otherworldly beings trying to destroy this world, Justice League briefings or that my family of Gods and Amazons are like what you see in those overdramatized shows."

Clark laughed. "Overdramatized shows…yeah, I get it. That's a very accurate description."

"What made me even give Keith this much of a chance was that he wasn't like the usual men who have disrespectful fantasies of Wonder Woman. Every time Wonder Woman visited the Air Force he never acted like the others. Even Steve had his embarrassing moments. So I thought that he could be understanding and respectful to both Diana Prince and Wonder Woman. I thought that I could trust him. But a relationship has to have intimacy and I just can't see myself with him that way. I don't think I can ever has such a relationship with anyone."

Kal tightened his grip around her waist.

"Diana, I don't want you to ever give up on what you want. Romantic relationships are complicated for us because of how our lives are. But that doesn't mean to give up on love all together. It is there for you. Closer than you think, actually."

Diana looked up at him. Her heart started to race a bit.

"We've spent all this time talking about me…but what about you, Kal?"

He answered with a smile and kissed her forehead.

"Let's get you back home."

"Kal?"

"Come on, Di. I'll race you."

Diana raised her brow. "So what's the deal?"

"Hmm…not sure yet. But it'll be a win-win for us both."

Diana smirked. "Go!"

Diana took off flying laughed.

"Ah, Di! Come on!"

"Don't tell me you are losing stamina, Kal. I always thought you were such a resilient man."

"Oh, I'm very resilient. I can show you how much anytime, you know?"

Diana looked back at him. "Resilient and relentless."

Like two free birds, Kal and Diana flew across the beautiful clear night sky.

They first met as Diana Prince and Clark Kent, Diana's second year in man's world at a seminar with Julia. Although, she quickly learned the English language with the help of Julia, Diana had often began to speak her native Grecian language and some things she still wasn't too keen on understanding. Clark Kent had ask to interview her and surprisingly to Diana, Clark knew how to speak the Grecian language. One thing led to another of them talking about arts and culture. 4 months later, Superman and Wonder Woman met in Metropolis when Terra-Man set an attack on the city.

Then...

Terra-Man, a 19th Century cowboy abducted by aliens, who trained him to be an super powered interstellar outlaw with futuristic technology in the style of the Old West.

"You have to stop!" Superman called out.

"Why? Am I really that much of a challenge?" Terra-Man laughed.

"I'm more concerned with your bad aim and having bullets ricochet that could potentially hit someone else."

Terra-Man shrugged. "Sacrifices have to be made."

"It's clear you don't know what making sacrifices mean. There will be no lives lost today!"

Superman and Terra-Man looked up to see the gorgeous woman flying down.

Terra-Man smirked. "And who are you, doll?"

"I am no doll. I am Wonder Woman."

Superman looked at her in awe. Her voice was so familiar. She was so familiar.

Wonder Woman looked over her shoulder with a smile. "It's nice to finally meet you, Superman."

"Yeah…you…too…"

"Come on, girly. How about we get tangled together in each other's ropes?"

Wonder Woman looked at Terra-Man disgusted.

"Superman, make sure everyone is out the way to safety."

The look in her eyes, Superman knew he could trust her. He nodded slightly and flew off.

"What a coward!"

"You mean yourself. It will be too easy for him to take you out. I'm giving the opportunity to have a little fun."

"Death wish already, sweetheart?"

Diana smirked. "Try me."

Terra-Man sighed. "What a waste. We could've had something grand."

He fired his guns but to his surprise, Wonder Woman dashed forward deflecting the bullets with ease. Once close enough, she punched him, knocking him across the street.

As Wonder Woman was just about to charge at him again, Terra-Man launched another weapon at full blast.

Wonder Woman gasped raising her arms for defense but quickly realized the blast was blocked by something else. She looked up to see Superman shielding her.

"Superman."

He smiled and winked at her.

She smiled back.

Neither said another word, yet they were completely in sync taking down Terra-Man. Superman punched him knocking him unconscious and Wonder Woman wrapped her lasso around him waiting for ARGUS to take him away.

"We make a good team," Superman smiled.

"Yes, I agree," Wonder Woman smiled back.

When the ARGUS agents took Terra-Man away, Superman and Wonder Woman stood there silently for a moment as if waiting for the other to say something.

"Well I must get going. It was nice to finally meet you, Superman and work with you."

Wonder Woman was about to take off when Superman grabbed her hand.

"Wait a sec…"

"Oh?" Wonder Woman questioned turning back to him.

"You remind me of someone I know. I actually just met a few weeks ago."

Wonder Woman smiled. "I do?"

Superman laughed nervously. "I don't want this to come off sounding like some kind of corny pick up line. But it's…your voice and other…features. She works as an assistant professor in Boston."

"Interesting…" Wonder Woman blushed. "Well…I can say that you remind me of someone, too."

"Hm?"

"A reporter for the Daily Planet."

They stared into each others eyes for a moment.

"Clark?"

"Diana?"

They smiled saying each others names in unison.

"Would you like to go talk somewhere?" Clark asked.

"Yes."

He held her hand tighter as the flew off together.

Daily planet

They landed on top of the roof. Wonder Woman looked in awe of the famous golden globe, then leaned over looking across the city of tomorrow.

"Oh wow! This is so beautiful. I don't know which view I like the best the more I see them. Despite the evil doers and whatever else disruptive, this world is amazing!"

"Yeah, it is. That's why we are who we are." Clark smiled at her. "So how did you know?"

"It's not that hard to put two and two together. I've seen you on television. Meeting you already as Clark helped. The distinctive color of your eyes even with glasses and that charming smile."

"Charming, huh?"

Diana bit her lip. "As you said for me, there are other…features." She touched his biceps. "I don't think I've seen a reporter with such a physique."

Clark laughed. "Usually if it's questioned it's just because I'm from Smallville. Cornfed, working with my Pa on the farm and played a lot of sports."

"Where are you really from?"

Clark looked up. "Somewhere far out up there. Once called planet Krypton. My birth name is Kal-El."

"Kal-El?" Diana smiled. "I like that name. Kal-El." She repeated.

And as much as she liked saying his name, he liked hearing her say it in such a sultry exotic tone.

"You can call me Kal, Kal-El...whatever you want. I mean…when we are like this. Clark is…"

"I know. Just as the glasses and the slight change in your demeanor, I presume. For me, Julia said it's to hide in plain sight."

"Not hide. Just blend in."

"I see. My home island of Themyscira, I don't know if my mother and sisters would agree with blending in. They certainly wouldn't hide. Centuries of…misfortune and war against man's world has cast doubt in their eyes that may never be lifted."

"I understand. Upon studying my biological father's journals, there are many worlds that are corrupted. Earth, while beautiful has its share of corruption. My father, however, believed Earth was a special planet to share kryptonian technology with one day. Maybe it's you that's will change that for your mother and sisters."

"Is that why you are here?"

"Part of it. Yeah, I guess so. He didn't want another world to end up like Krypton so my purpose is to help not just this world, but others across the galaxy not to fall to the same fate."

"That is a very ambitious task and I'm sure you are up for such."

"Maybe not only Superman snd Wonder Woman but Clark Kent and Diana Prince can work together too?"

"Oh, how so?"

"Would love to get a few words from you from time to time. Perry, my editor, loved my last article with you featured."

"Are you asking for my number, Kal?"

He laughed nervously. "It seems that everything I'm saying sounds like a pick up line. I'm sorry."

"No need to apologize. Do you keep a pen and paper in your cape?"

"Ha! You know that's not a bad idea, actually. I be right back," he winked and dashed off and within seconds, was back with a pen and notepad. "The benefits of having pens and notepads all over my desk."

He handed it to her. Diana smiled writing her number down.

"I look forward to your call, Kal-El."

"I'll be calling very soon."

They stood there for a moment silent, smiling and staring into each other's eyes.

For the next two years, they worked as a pair both as Reporter Clark Kent and Professor Diana Prince along with Superman and Wonder Woman. Within that time, Superman met Batman and Robin as well.

Soon, other heroes emerged and they all decided to join together forming the renown superhero team, The Justice League of America.

Superman and Wonder Woman still maintained their partnership outside of the league. They became closer on a more personal level and although the tried to keep things professional around the other leaguers, even trying to deny their harboring romantic feelings, it was just way too obvious of their personal closeness.

But they never pursued anything further besides the constant flirtation and Kal being over protective of Diana.

Now as more time pass by, regret is beginning to loom over both of them.

Now…Back at Diana's condominium

Diana laughed landing first on her balcony. Kal came behind her wrapping his arms around her waist.

"You let me win."

"No, you had a head start and I like watching you from behind anyway."

Diana gasped and as she tried to turn, Kal tightened his grip around her holding her to his chest.

Gods, being in his arms is where I want to be.

"Kal…?"

"It's always good to hear you laughing. Seeing you having fun."

Diana relaxed in his embrace.

"Well it's you that has that effect on me."

Kal took a deep breath in then exhaled. "Di?"

"Yes?"

Kal let her turn around to face him. He stared into a beautiful eyes for a moment.

"I want you happy, Di."

"I am, Kal."

"I meant something else…" He reached to caress her cheek.

Diana smiled and kissed his cheek. "I'm very happy right now, Kal. What would make me even happier is if you would finally finish this mystery series with me?"

"Diana, you started like twelve series at once? Which one are you talking about?"

She laughed. "Oh, hush. I was trying to see which one I liked the best. You will know which one when I start it."

"Fine. Fine."

Diana giggled unlocking and opening the door.

Going into the living room, Kal's supersuit degenerated into his civilian clothes. Diana went to her room to quickly change into a pajama short set.

"Ready?" Kal asked as Diana sat next to him on the couch.

She nodded turning on the series and laid her head on his shoulder.

Kal glanced down at Diana with a smiled.

While watching the episode, there was an intense sex scene that took them both by surprise. Kal cleared his throat and adjusted himself a bit to be slouched more against the sofa. Diana smirked to herself and cuddled closer to him.

Kal's reaction is not at all surprising. He wants me just as much as I want him.

After at least 2 more episodes watched to completion, Kal and Diana had fallen asleep. Though, Kal woke up another hour later. He focused to see that he was still with Diana, her in his arms peacefully asleep. When he tried to move to ease up, Diana held on tighter to his shirt and let out a groan.

"Kal…no…" she whined sleepy.

He was shocked. "Diana?"

She wouldn't let go of his shirt.

"Okay."

He eased to reach for the quilt she had on the arm of the sofa then adjusted them to lay more comfortably.

"Clark…" Diana yawned.

He looked down at her. Her eyes were closed but her facial expression seemed intense even in her sleep.

"Yeah, Di?"

"I want you to be happy, too. Promise me that."

It's a risk we just can't take. I can't lose my best friend if something goes wrong. If we have to be with someone else other than each other…I just want him to be happy.

Kal took a moment and kissed the top of her head.

"I promise."

Diana let out a soft sigh but still held onto his shirt.

This just feels so right being in his arms.

Kal kissed the top of her head again then looked up at the ceiling. He shook his head slightly.

"I won't ever leave you, Di," he whispered.

And I won't ever leave him. It's complicated…to be in love with someone that suppose to just be your friend…best friend…but this amazing man just swooped in taking hold of my heart.
