While Steve and Eva talked in the med bay, things in the meeting room were heating up. Bucky turned to Nat, both of them glaring at each other.
"What are you looking at, Barnes," the redhead asked, her voice hard.
"Someone who couldn't take the hint," he growled back. "I warned you. I fucking warned you."
"Your point?"
Bucky sighed. "You don't understand. Everything in Steve was enhanced. He's protective of Evelyn at the best of times." He gave a small chuckle. "So much so, he was willing to do whatever it took to keep her safe."
A memory played in his mind of pre-serum Steve trying to protect Eva from a jerk that was hitting on her at a dance hall. It ended up with Steve's nose bloody and Eva kicking the giant of a man where it hurts most. She ended up having to take care of him for a week after… only for it to happen again but with a different body part breaking, bruising, or bloodied badly. Half the time, Bucky thought he got hurt just so Eva would take care of him.
Bucky took a breath as the memory ened and said, "Now, I'm the only one that can stop him from going too far. But Evelyn?" He clicked his tongue. "How do I even describe that one? Let's just say, if anyone hurt Steve, not even a super soldier could stop her. And she doesn't go for physical pain."
Clint asked, "You mean-"
Bucky smiled. "Evelyn made life hell for one girl in school for pushing Steve down. She had to transfer schools."
He left out how Eva had forced the girl to move by spreading rumors about the girl's mother and made sure the girl's father couldn't get hired in Boston. He still couldn't figure out how she did it, only that the girl's last week was her begging Eva and Steve and even himself for forgiveness and to stop everything. All Eva had said was that it was too late and she couldn't stop it. He had never been so scared of his friend before, but he knew not to cross her after that.
What brought him back from memory lane was Nat saying, "So, you're telling me she's kind and forgiving, but also protective of those she loves and highly vindictive?"
The tone of her voice had him looking at her warily as he said, "Did you even listen?"
Her voice became almost singsong in nature. "I think you described her beautifully. An Avenging Angel."
Clint and Bucky watched her walk out of the room. Bucky wanted to punch something, well, someone. Okay, he wanted to be able to take his anger out on Nat for not listening.
However, he heard Clint say, "Shit. Not again."
