Disclaimer: I do NOT own the Chosen. Dallas Jenkins does and I am NOT making any money off of this. I only own my Original Character: Leah. And none of the events with Leah happened in the bible. Thank you and God Bless you!
TW: Slight mention of Eating Disorders. Not really an eating disorder but I'm still putting this here. Cause I really don't want to trigger anyone.
"What? Why wasn't I told?"
Leah couldn't believe her ears. None of them could send letters to Jesus while he was away and no one told her. She had to find out from Mary and Tamar. Mary had been nice about it thankfully but Tamar had been harsh. As she had been with everyone from the start, so Leah really wasn't phased by that. But what she was hurt by was that no one, not even Jesus had told her that she couldn't send letters to him, which she was a little hurt by.
But what she was most upset about was that she had to find out after she had sent a letter.
"I'm done for" she said as she walked away from the two women now. How she was going to handle the next month without sending any letters or connecting with the man she loved? It was going to be torture. And worse, he could be mad at her when he came back. A thought that she couldn't handle.
"Leah!" Mary called out to her now, concerned for the young girl. But she knew nothing could help her now.
One Month Later
"Leah please eat something" her father said as he sat at the table with his daughter and her mother.
The girl had barely eaten anything over the past month and when she wasn't helping her mother, she would just lay in bed, gazing blankly at the wall or sleep for long hours. Sometimes her father would lay with her, stroking her hair or rubbing her back as the two were close. They always had been. Leah had a good relationship with her mom, but her father was her best friend.
"My stomach hurts Abba" she said softly, looking down at her hands as he wrapped her in his arms now, kissing her forehead.
It was one of a million excuses that she had used over the past month because in reality, she couldn't really keep food down. Not intentionally, but she was so upset and stressed that she just hardly ate. She had lost weight and her clothes were very loose fitting. Her face was pale and she had dark circles under her eyes. James and John had immediately been concerned when they got home as had the rest of the disciples.
"She looks like a ghost" she had heard John whisper to James one night.
"Leah I know you miss Jesus, but he wouldn't be happy to see you looking like this" her mother said softly.
"I know. I know! He's not going to be happy with me anyway!" she got up and walked outside, wanting some fresh air.
James and John came running by, John grabbing her by her hand. "He's back!"
Leah froze now, her already pale face turning paler as her brother rushed down the street. She was finding it very hard to keep up now as her energy levels were low.
"John slow down!" she exclaimed, out of breath a little, making her brothers pause to look back at her.
"Leah, you need to eat or at least get some sleep. You look terrible" James said now, frowning at his sister.
"You think I don't know that?" she mumbled as she walked along with her brothers. "I don't know what to do right now. I can stand the idea of him hating me."
"Because you sent one letter, not even knowing you weren't supposed to?" John asked shocked. "Leah, Jesus isn't like that."
Leah was just about to respond when a whole flood of people came out of Simon and Eden's house, led by Jesus, two Rabbis and the rest of the disciples. Jesus caught her eye and for a minute, his own eyes widened at how she looked. But as quickly as he saw her, he looked away and continued on his way.
"I'm going for a walk. Don't wait up for me." Leah said before walking away.
But she never went back home. She didn't want to. She was tired. Tired and drained and sick of everyone fussing over her as if she would break. But she felt as though she would if she had to face Jesus, so she stayed away right at the spot where she had first met him. Hours passed and she didn't even know what time it was until she felt someone sit down next to her. "I thought I may find you here" came the voice of her father as he wrapped an arm around her, pulling her into his side.
It was dark now and Leah could see the moonlight reflecting off the ocean that was in front of her.
"Do you remember when we first met him?" she asked softly, a tear escaping her eye now as she started to cry softly.
"Like it was yesterday" Zebedee said, placing his head on her's as she buried her face into his chest.
"Abba I don't know what to do now" she sobbed as he rubbed her back soothingly, kissing her forehead. "How could I have done that? I could have ruined his life!"
"You couldn't ruin anyone's life sweetheart. Not in a million years. You're too precious to harm anyone."
Leah continued to cry for what seemed like a long time as her father rocked her back and forth. Zebedee sighed and looked down at her. She had been his little princess for a long time. They had done everything together and Zebedee had even taught her how to fish when she had been old enough. She could do almost everything John and James could do.
But now he had a new problem. Letting his daughter go. Jesus hadn't been her first love, but he was definitely her true love and Zebedee had realized that from the moment the two met. He never expected his only daughter to be swept away by the Messiah. And looking out at the empty beach, he suddenly had an idea.
"Do you think you're strong enough for a dance with you're old man?" he asked, feeling how thin she had gotten.
Leah looked up from her father's chest and into his eyes. "Right here and now?"
"I'm talking right here on this beach where I taught you how to fish when you were just six."
Leah smiled and nodded as her dad got up first, gently taking her hands as he pulled her up into his arms.
"Well you certainly can't stand on my feet anymore" Zebedee said laughing as he danced with his daughter slowly.
"Yeah no. Sadly I outgrew that years ago. Sorry Abba."
And for the first time in a month, Leah laughed. It sounded foreign to her, but it felt good to laugh with her father after such a long time. The two danced for awhile before the father and daughter heard a voice behind them. "May I cut in?"
Leah froze and her smile completely vanished now, which Zebedee noticed right away. He gently kissed his daughter's forehead before walking towards Jesus as the girl turned around to face the two men that were most important in her life. Her father placed a hand on Jesus' shoulder, whispering something that she couldn't hear before walking away, leaving the two of them alone.
She bit her lip a bit as Jesus examined her a moment before walking over to her. "I thought I was clear when I left that none of you were to send letters" he said as tears filled Leah's eyes.
"Were you blind when you said that? Because I wasn't in the room Jesus."
"I thought Mary would tell you..." Jesus started to say angrily before Leah cut him off.
"She told me Jesus. After the fact! After I sent you that letter! So don't be mad at me because I didn't know!"
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she tried to walk past him, but he caught her arm, pulling her back to him, suddenly shocked at how thin she was now.
"Leah what has happened to you?" he asked now, taking her face in his hands only to have her pull away, shaking.
"You left! That's what happened and I had no way of contacting you! Not after what Mary told me!"
"Leah..." He reached for her again. This time she allowed him to pull her into his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck as she buried her face in his shoulder, sobbing.
"It hurts! You wouldn't let me communicate with you and it hurts!"
Jesus sighed softly and rubbed her back soothingly. Leah was lucky she was holding onto him because she felt a wave of dizziness come over her.
"J..Jesus...I feel sick" she said, closing her eyes as she held onto him tighter.
He lifted her up into his arms now, feeling just how light she had become. It shocked him that all this had happened in just a month.
"Don't let me go" she murmured into his chest as he sank to the ground, holding her in his lap gently.
"Never again" Jesus whispered into her hair as he rubbed her side a little to warm her up. She felt cold.
Still holding onto her, he managed to shrug his backpack off, pulling out a blanket for them. "Sweet girl" he murmured into her hair as he pulled the blanket over them, leaning against a rock that was behind them. She held onto him tighter, her fingers clutching his tunic as if he would dissapear at any moment.
He leaned down, letting his lips brush her's gently as she wrapped an arm around his neck, pulling him down to her as he deepened the kiss, cupping her pale cheek in his hand. He had made a mistake and he knew he needed to fix it. Under normal circumstances, he would ask her to marry him, but he knew his fate. Not that he would tell Leah yet.
He ran a hand through her tangled hair as he continued to kiss her. It was like they had to make up for lost time and she was holding onto him with all her might. He reluctantly pulled away gently as she whimpered a little at the loss of contact.
"We can do more when you're better" he said, gently scratching her back a little as she leaned against his chest once more. "Leah I am so sorry. How can I ever make this up to you?"
"Don't leave me ever again like that Jesus" she whispered, gazing up into his light brown eyes. "I can't stand being away from you. It hurts way too much."
He kissed her forehead and took one of her hands gently. "Next time I go somewhere, you're coming with me" he promised her as she leaned back into him, looking up into his eyes.
He smiled and kissed her nose, rubbing his own against it gently. "I love you Leah."
"I love you too Jesus" she whispered, kissing him again gently, placing her forehead on his. He would never leave her alone again.
