Chapter 2- The first day.
"Hey, get up! You said you'd be up on time"
"Ugh…" Brad's eyes fluttered open as he took a moment to recall everything. He was being under the care of Nuzleaf, and he was going undercover to the school to not raise suspicion. He got up and stretched his Snivy body out. "Sorry 'bout that. Never was a morning person…" Nuzleaf gave a sigh but a smile.
"Well, brush those teeth and let's get going. You gotta meet the teachers and all. I'll go with you today, but tomorrow you'll head there yourself."
"Guess that makes sense, since you know, I am an adult~" Brad teasingly stuck his tongue out and went to brushing his teeth with the brush Nuzleaf got for him the other day. Nuzleaf walked Brad to the school, north of the kecleon market and kangashkahn café. At the gate was a watchhog, the vice-principal. Brad greeted him very politely, getting a small smirk of satisfaction from them. Nuzleaf introduced Brad to the principal, a simipour who was all smiles and gave off a relaxed vibe. Afterwards Nuzleaf said his farewells and patted Brad's head "Be a good boy for the teachers, alright kiddo?"
"Yes sir, I'll be a good boy." Brad did his best to act like a young kid that was listening to their parent. "hoho, no worries , we'd be delighted to take on your young one and enhance their knowledge." Simipour smiled as he heard sounds. "Ah, seems the young ones are arriving." Simipour walked out with watchhog and Brad. "Hello vice principal! Hello Principal! Hello Mr. Farfetch'd!" Goomy and Deerling walked in, Deerling noticed Brad.
"Oh! Brad! Good to see you! Again, thank you for yesterday."
"Ah, don't worry about it, Deerling. Good to see you and Goomy." Goomy smiled at Brad as Brad smiled at them. Brad did honestly find it nice to see these two kids after the event he helped in. "Morning teach!" Pancham walked in with Shelmet, as soon as both saw Brad they got a shocked look on their face. "Oh? What has you two so shocked?" Farfetch'd titled his head a bit, given Pancham and Shelmet never reacted so weirdly before.
"Ah well Um…"
"They met me yesterday, and I wasn't very well taking their bullying of young Goomy nicely. I didn't harm them of course, but I may have made a bit of a strong impression." Brad kind of rubbed the back of his head a bit. "Oh Brad, me and Goomy want to introduce you to another classmate, this is Espurr, she's in the same grade as Goomy and Pancham. Meanwhile you, Shelmet, and myself are in the same grade…Well, there's also Emma…but she's not here yet."
"Emma…Is that the Riolu that lived next to me and Nuzleaf?" "Yeah, guess you already had a run in with her."
"You can say that…She's…eccentric. She was singing some song…"
"Oh, yeah, that Sweet Caroline thing? That's a song that's like…54 years old." "She seems to enjoy it…" The Espurr spoke up as she walked over to Deerling and Brad. "Nice to meet you, Brad. Hope we can be friends."
"Me too Espurr." Brad and Espurr shook hands. "Hey, um…Brad, why do you wear that scarf anyway? It's March…" Pancham spoke up looking at Brad.
"…Not sure, Nuzleaf found me like this. I never really questioned it…I guess we could see what happens if I do take it off." Brad looked at the other kids and they all watched. Brad sighed and began to unwrap it, as he did he suddenly felt really warm and light headed. "Ugh…it's…hot…can't…" Brad suddenly collapsed, causing Simipour to call on Audino as the kids looked shocked at how suddenly it happened. Brad eventually felt himself come back to reality, looking up at a roof and moaned as he sat up. "Ugh…where am I?"
"Oh! You've come to. Thank Arceus." A pink Pokémon walked over. "I'm Audino. I'm the village doctor but I also teach health here at the school. I looked into your temperature with and without your scarf. You seem to have the same range as Snover and Abomasnow species. The scarf seems to posses a strange fabric that helps keep you cool no matter what the temperature. Of course, if it's snowing or cold outside you should be fine. Now, I'm afraid class has begun without you but you should be able to join, Brad." Brad nodded and adjusted his scarf slightly giving Audino a thank-you hug before rushing back outside. In the area for class, Farfetch'd was telling a kid's story…Brad could hear it and was already bored with how childish it was. The first one to notice Brad was Deerling.
"Ah! Brad's awake!" The kids all rushed over, Shelmet and Pancham jolting awake suddenly as Brad got a bit surprised at being rushed to. "Brad! You're ok! I was told what happened after you took your scarf off. Are you ok now?" Emma was close to Brad, obviously worried.
"Yeah…I'm ok now, miss Audino said my body seems to be like Snover and Abomasnow, so the scarf's special fabric keeps my body cool no matter what the temperature is." "While I am glad you are awake…I did not say anyone could leave their seat" Farfetch'd hit his leek on the table, getting everyone's attention. "Brad, if you're well enough to rejoin take your seat next to Emma." "Yes sir" Brad went and sat down to Emma, who looked at him and smiled before Farfetch'd had all eyes focus on him. He continued to read the story, letting Brad daydream while looking forward, thinking on why the scarf kept him cool, despite it being the spring. Eventually recess rolled around and Brad stretched as Deerling and Goomy walked over.
"Brad, seriously, thank you again for yesterday when you helped Goomy." Emma looked shocked and went over.
"YOU went and saved Goomy without me?! Aw man I like adventures…"
"Well…Emma…It was sudden but also you tend to get too wrapped up in adventure you rush ahead." Goomy tilted his head at Emma a bit with a face of concern.
"Ah well…hehehe…" Emma rubbed the back of her head sheepishly.
"Aw geez…Seems I'll have to make sure you don't do something crazy." Brad chuckled as Emma looked a bit annoyed as Goomy and Deerling chuckled. Meanwhile Pancham and Shelmet whispered to one another, apparently plotting something. Eventually class ended and everyone left, saying bye. Emma rushed up to Brad. "Heeeeeeeey! How about we walk home together?" Emma smiled at Brad who shrugged and agreed. "So, Sorry I never got to finish showing you around the plaza yesterday. Some stuff came up."
"Oh it's fine, I got myself acquainted with the plaza, before I went and helped Goomy out." "Ah…Well in that case…hmm…Oh! How about I show you my absolute favorite place! Come on please?"
"Ah…well…Ah why not. I got nothing else going on." Emma squealed and hugged Brad as she swung around. "Ah thank you so much! Here follow me!" Emma rushed forward followed by Brad who took a moment to get his bearings straight. "Hey! Hold it right there you two!" Pancham yelled as he grabbed Brad's scarf, being careful not to pull it off. Shelmet helped by grabbing the other arm of the scarf.
"Gack, what do you two even want…" Brad dusted himself off and fixed his scarf. "Seriously, don't need my scarf to be dirty…"
"Yeah, don't get his scarf dirty! What do you two need anyway? We're on our way to somewhere important." Emma helped dust Brad's scarf off.
"We weren't talking to you, we're talking to him. Anyway just because you got through foreboding forest doesn't mean you're tough. There are WAY tougher and scarier areas out there!"
"Yeah! Way scarier."
"…So scary you'd two wet yourselves? Look, Emma and I don't have time for your games today." "Ugh, you're being annoying. Look if you can clean a WAY scarier dungeon, we'll admit you're brave."
"I'll do it!"
"No one is talking to you, expedition society wannabe. Seriously Emma, you're a kid, you're not even 7, at least for two months…"
"Hm? When is your birthday Emma?"
"Oh, it's in October. Why?"
"Helps me know."
"ANYWAY, follow us…"
Emma and Brad shrugged and followed Pancham and Shelmet to a mine area.
"The…Drilbur coal mines? Isn't the left area blocked off inside because it's a mystery dungeon that way?"
"Heh, seems you actually have a brain instead that puppy skull of yours. Yeah, we want you both to sneak in and bring back red stones as proof. Do that, and we'll admit you both are brave."
"Oh, so you promise do you? Because if you break the promise, you and Shelmet will be experiencing a cold front…" Brad's glare got Shelmet and Pancham to cringe a bit in fear.
"Yeah yeah whatever. You and Emma will be called brave. Swear on my favorite twig that I always have with me."
"Good. Emma stand next to me will you?
"Hm? Ok why"
"Alright…like that…" Brad used a vine to take out a camera and pointed it at them. "Smile"
Emma smiled with Brad as a picture was taken. "There we go…ah so Kecleon was right, this camera is nice…Back into my scarf's protective area…Alright, let's go Emma."
"Coming! Time for an expedition!" "Ah…Eh whatever…We already agreed. We'll be waiting at the plaza. Come on Shelmet."
"Good luck nerds! Hahaha" Shelmet followed Pancham as Brad headed toward the drilbur.
"Um…Where do you two kids think you're going?"
"…What's in the left mine?"
The drilbur look stunned that Brad asked that so suddenly.
"Um…A dangerously bad time."
"…Ok, let's go Emma. You Drilbur try and stop us and I'll freeze the WHOLE mine with my ice beam."
"Hey Brad can you actually do that?"
"Probably not…fear tactics and such" The drilbur looked at each other a bit concerned as Brad rolled his eyes and walked into the mine.
"We'll be quick. Just pretend we never talked."
"Bye~ We'll be real sneaky!" Emma followed Brad inside.
"…Those kids are in for a rude awakening...But…whatever."
What would be waiting for Brad and Emma deep in the mines…Only they'd be able to find out.
