Luke jumped into the fray towards the android. He swung his blades at the android but the android simply stepped to the side allowing Luke to crash into a car. Luke grunted as he collided with a car leaving a dent on the side of the vehicle. He stumbled away from the vehicle only to be clocked with a big right that sent him crashing to the ground.
"Shit!" Luke shouted, getting up off the floor as the blades that once covered his hand dissipated.
He expected his new armor to give him protection, but absorbing the impact of an android punching right in the jaw was something he did not expect. The android picked him up, holding him over its head before it tossed him like he was a ragdoll.
Luke screamed as he flew through the air before landing in the middle of the road leaving a man shaped dent. A bunch of drivers slammed their feets on their brakes whilst citizens along the sidewalks ran off screaming while some simply just stared at the armored man in the middle of the road.
"I don't think that was a very logical plan of attack, human."
"Yeah, Yeah, Yeah," Luke said, ignoring his comments as he stood up. He looked up and immediately saw the android flying towards him.
"I noticed something earlier while fighting this bot. Its movements are very rigid and slow, if you can counteract that somehow, you might be able to take advantage."
"Good thinking."
Luke formed a lightweight hand cannon with his right hand and aimed it at the android releasing a few energy blasts towards the android with one of them hitting it in the chest sending it crashing to the ground. Luke bolted towards the android as it was reaching a vertical base.
Luke immediately went to the fray swinging with lefts and rights. The android threw a right hand that Luke ducked and formed a blade with his left hand before driving it into the abdomen. Luke pulled his hand back and formed a hook with his same hand. The android went left causing Luke to duck it and use this opportunity to jump onto his back.
Luke used the hook to pull its head off, letting the head just away. He jumped off its back and allowed its lifeless body to fall to the ground. Luke looked around with a frown on his face that was concealed by the helmet. He walked over to the head and put his feet on head before pushing down forcing the head to break as sparks flew away from the circuitry.
"So violent."
"Says the guy who's homeworld has a massive civil war," Luke said as he stepped away from the carnage as civilians were staring at him with eyes of shock.
"Touche."
"Take it away," Luke said as he kneeled down before bolting up in the sky as many people were staring at him watching as he flew away.
Meanwhile, in the safety of her office, the heavy set woman in the pants suit from earlier looked on with an evil smirk on her face. She just watched the black and yellow armored warrior challenge her android with very little effort.
"Director Waller!" said one of her workers who came running in with a tablet.
"Don't you knock!" Waller shouted as she stood up and looked at the worker with a frown on her face.
"I apologize, Director Waller but Amargon just went offline!"
"I'm aware."
"Do you need me to mobilize the units?"
"No, I got exactly what I needed," she said with a smirk on her face as she sat back down in her chair as the thoughts started to circulate in her mind.
A couple of hours had passed and Luke sat on a cliff looking on with a smile on his face as the sun started to set in the wide sky of Wyoming. He sat on a cliff in the widely-known Yellowstone National Park on a cliff looking on at the sunset and looking on at the beautiful waterfalls in the park. He had a half-eaten box filled with glazed donuts.
After the battle with that android, Luke had taken it upon himself to grab himself a treat which led him to know. He looked on with his armor still clad around his body.
"It's beautiful human. Almost reminds me of back home," the STG said, referencing his homeworld of Skaro.
"I know the sunsets here are amazing. And please call me Luke, just calling me human somehow feels derogatory."
"That was not my intention but I do understand your point of view Luke," STG said, making Luke chuckle as he shook his head.
"So how was your homeworld? You never talk about it," Luke said trying to get a level of understanding from his new partner in life.
Luke closed his eyes and when he opened them he was looking at a different sight. It was a skyline flooded with clouds and a white sun that shone high in the sky with a lot of light. The world had metallic buildings that rivaled the tallest buildings on Earth. It was a beautiful sight, a world full of technology, full of metals that were possibly only unique to them.
"This is Skaro, well the Skaro that I remember. My homeworld was a beautiful place before The Revant ruined it with their war. They destroyed my home and I've already lost one world, I won't lose another. I swear to you Luke, I will never allow The Revenant or anyone else to take this world from you," STG said as Luke closed his eyes. When he opened his eyes he was back on Earth.
He understood where STG was coming from. The same way that Luke felt about his homeworld was the same way that STG felt about his homeworld Skaro. STG lost his world and Luke knew that if STG could he would prevent that from happening. STG lost one home, he was gonna make sure his new partner never had to feel that same pain.
"We'll do that together, Stinger."
"Like Partners?"
Luke chuckled as the sound of how excited the Alien AI system sounded. He legit sounded like he was excited to be working with a human. The smile faded once he realized that Stinger was the last of his kind. He was The Last Sentinel.
"Like Partners."
"Thank you Lucas," Luke heard the AI System say, bringing a small smile back to his face as he continued to look at the sunset.
Luke had finally made it back to his apartment after he landed on the roof of the building. He looked around cautiously trying to see if anyone was nearby but didn't see anyone allowing the armor to seep back into his skin. He panted for his breath as he felt the transformation. STG swore that over time it would get easier and the weird feeling would subside.
"How long before that gets easier?" Luke asked the alien AI in his head.
"Honestly there is no time to tell hu- Luke. It just depends on how many times we transform," STB said as Luke simply nodded.
"Look, I've been thinking about what you said earlier. And if we want to make sure that this world doesn't end up like you homeworld, we need to work together and we need to be proactive not retroactive."
"Meaning what exactly, Luke?"
"We can't wait till after someone strikes, if someone strikes we have to immediately hope on and be there to save the day. My planet is home to heroes. Some of these heroes have powers and abilities beyond imagination. And these heroes have formed a team. A team called The Justice League, they are the Earth's Protectors. Think of them like The Sentinels."
"Interesting. I take it this League protects your entire world."
"To a certain degree. It seems like they've forgotten about Midway City. It's up to you and I to protect this city. We have to, because they sure won't. If Midway is safe, then we can help other places in the world."
"The city first then everyone else. What happens if we fail to save someone? What happens if we arrive too late Luke?"
"The rest of the world has the league. They have the resources to be everywhere. Everywhere but my City. You made me a promise. A promise to save my world. I'm just asking that you lower the range. Instead of the world, just focus on my home for right now."
There was a slight pause making Luke look on with a nervous frown on his face, he didn't know if the AI system ould cooperate or not with him.
"So you in?"
"Luke, I made you a promise. A promise I intend to keep. So yes, I'm in."
Luke smiled before he walked towards the door and started to go inside of the building but unbeknownst to him, a figure from a distance standing on top of a building spotted him staring at him with a set of binoculars, looking on with a frown. This figure wore a gray body suit that enunciated his jacked physique with a black cape, black battle gauntlets with three jagged blades along the side of the gauntlets with black boots and a gold utility belt. The most notable features on his suit was the cowl with short bat ears atop it with a black 'Bat' symbol in the center of his chest.
"Batman to Watchtower, Repeat Batman to Watchtower, I have tracked down that energy signature. I'm moving in," he said with a deep voice as he continued watching the unsuspecting Luke walk into the building.
An hour had passed and it was now completely dark outside as the only light that lit the dark nighttime sky was the moon. In this hour, Luke had time to unwind and relax and get a meal in his system and shower before he got ready to head off to bed. Currently the young man was in the bathroom brushing his teeth.
Little did he know "The Dark Knight", "The Guardian of Gotham" had snuck into his apartment through his unlocked screen door. Batman gently closed the door, being careful not to make a peep as the young man was finishing up on his teeth. Batman sulked into the corner of the darkness looking on with a frown as he watched the young man come out of his bedroom and walk towards the kitchen, making a beeline to the fridge, grabbing a bottle of water.
Luke didn't pay any attention and simply walked to his bedroom, not suspecting the presence of "The Caped Crusader" at all.
Batman watched as the door closed to his bedroom and grabbed a pair of binoculars from his utility belt. He turned on the energy detecting mode in his binoculars and started searching for that same energy signature that he detected back on the Watch Tower a day ago. It was an insanely strong energy signature that couldn't be ignored. He and The League agreed that it needed to be in their hands in order to stop the risk of it falling into the wrong hands.
And he followed the signature that led him to Midway City this morning. And that energy signature led him to the apartment of the same man that he interviewed this morning as his billionaire counterpart, Bruce Wayne.
Batman kept searching around the apartment looking for the gem. It wasn't until he looked into the kitchen that he found something even remotely similar to the energy signature. He quietly marched into the kitchen, reaching above the fridge at the cabinets above. He reached into that cabinet, grabbed a hold of a brown wooden box and proceeded to open it, only to find it empty.
Batman heard a light hum as he turned around only to be standing face-to-face with a black and yellow armored being holding an ion cannon in front of his face as it hummed and lit up the room with energy. He could see the figure holding the gem.
Luke couldn't help but look at Batman with a confused frown under his mask. He didn't know why Batman was here and he damn sure didn't know why he wanted the Key of Destiny.
"Looking for this?" Luke said taunting the Bat-themed hero. Batman didn't say anything but simply reached for his utility belt dropping a smoke pellet before Luke could even react. The smoke quickly fogged up Luke's lens allowing Batman to catch him with a swift kick to the gut making Luke grunt as he dropped to a knee. Batman quickly snatched the Key from Luke's grasp and ran towards the screen door, pushing it open to jump out and try to glide away.
"Luke, he has the key!"
"I'm on it."
Luke stood up and followed suit, running out of the screen and diving out, allowing a set of thrusters to form from the bottom of his feet and on his back as he flew out to follow "The Gotham Bat".
Using his flight gear Luke was quickly able to match up with "The Bat" and formed an energy lasso aiming it for the Key. He grabbed a hold of the Key and ripped it from Batman's clutches and back into his grasp, forcing Batman to look up at him with an annoyed look on his face.
Batman stopped gliding through the air and fell through the sky as he reached for his grappling hook and aimed it and fired for Luke's foot. The hook clocked Luke's foot causing him to look back as he watched as Batman was onto his trail.
"Shit!" Luke cursed as he felt Batman's weight on his trail.
Luke steered left and right moving through the sky hoping that it would get Batman to let go but he was unsuccessful as he turned he just noticed "The Dark Knight" was looking on with a frown as he gritted his teeth together while trying to climb up the rope of the grappling hook.
That is when Luke had a flashing light bulb moment and quickly dove down through the air at a rapid speed. And just before he collided with the pavement, he quickly shot back up allowing Batman to collide with the pavement making him grunt but he still kept his grip on the grappling hook.
Luke looked back still seeing Batman on his tail making him dive once again through the air. Batman reached into the utility belt grabbing a batarang and launching it directly towards Luke's back. Luke felt the batarang hit one of his thrusters in his back causing him to fall to the ground grunt as he collided with the pavement, sliding onto the ground making a dent as he slid. Batman grunted as he finally let go of the grappling hook and rolled.
Luke cursed as he groaned slowly rising back up to his feet. He looked around seeing some of the civilians look on with shock while others ran.
"Nothing to see here, people. Just two superheroes having a little disagreement. Just-" Luke was saying as he looked around the people before he turned around and was caught by surprise when he felt an energy blast hit him in the chest sending him flying back into the side of the car. He groaned as he tried to rise up to his feet but felt an energy net collide with his chest, feeling the hot sensation.
Luke looked up to see a figure coming from the shadows of an alleyway. A being who stood tall presumably at 7 feet tall with crimson red armor. The being had dark red armor with a right hand that resembled a claw. He had a skull-like face mask with a set of horns on the side of the mask.
"T-T-That can't be."
The way that Stinger was stunned and distraught at the sight in front of him and Luke made the latter of the two a bit afraid.
"You know him?" Luke asked out loud but it seemed like Stinger was too stunned to speak. Batman rose up to his feet and got into a battle stance as he turned towards the figure. The figure's metallic lips curled into an evil smirk. Batman quickly rushed into the fray hitting him with a quick combo of left and right which the being was able to block before he went for a kick. The being caught his foot and launched Batman into a car along the sidewalk.
Batman grunted as he felt his back collide with the car. He quickly jumped away letting his opponent's energy net hit the car but missing him completely. Batman reached for his belt and quickly launched three explosive batarangs for the being. The being turned his hand into a blaster and was able to shoot down two of the batarangs but missed one, one that hit him directly in the chest and exploded. Batman looked on with a frown panting for his breath as he watched the being walk through the smoke unfazed.
Batman launched a smoke pellet in front of the being watching as it went off. Batman ran towards the being and jumped up trying to attack him but the being saw this coming and caught Batman with an electric net causing him to fall in the air groaning as he fell to the ground.
The being looked on with a smirk as he turned his head setting his gaze upon the Key of Destiny. He walked over to the Key and picked it up as both Luke and Batman looked on.
"Vexacion thanks you for your service," he arrogantly said with a raspy, deep voice. Stinger was able to finally cut himself free and launch himself towards the being looking to take him out by there was a blind purple light making him turn his head. When he looked back, the being was gone taking the Key with him.
"Shit," Luke cursed as he turned towards Batman and looked on with a frown as Batman had finally cut himself loose.
"We need to talk!" The Dark Knight said with a stern tone as Luke simply nodded his head.
Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter. Hopefully I did Batman justice on this one and hope you guys continue to tune in.
