Note: This chapter is a memory of the events in Treasure Planet

Amelia opened her eyes slowly as the adrenaline of the crash subsided. She heard the longboat creek above them as Jim pushed it aside, allowing them to climb out from underneath.

"That was more fun than I ever want to have again." Delbert murmured to himself as he stood up and out of the Longboat. Amelia chuckled to herself slightly through the shock of the last few moments.

"That's not one of my… gossamer landings." She said to nobody in particular as she stood up, righting herself and taking a breath. Her breath was cut short by a stab of pain from her left side, knocking her off balance. She groaned as she fell forward onto her knees, clutching her side.

"Captain!" The Doctor exclaimed, kneeling down next to her as she squeezed her eyes shut in pain.

Amelia pushed herself up to her feet again with the unwanted help of both men. She clutched her side before pushing them away. "Oh don't fuss." She told one of them, standing straight for half a second before she blacked out, collapsing into the Doctor's arms. Amelia quickly pushed herself off him. "Slight bruising, that's all." Amelia insisted as she stood up again. "Cup of tea and I'll be right as rain." Amelia ran her hand through her hair and straightened her coat, taking a short deep breath. Her side continued to throb, but she resisted putting a hand to it. Amelia pushed her ears back to her head, trying to regain her dignified Captain's expression. "Mr Hawkins," she addressed one of the men beside her, who didn't respond. She blinked a few times, trying to make out who it was, to realise it was the Doctor she had mistakenly addressed. Amelia turned to the other man, "the map if you please." She watched Jim dig into his pocket, a relieved smile breaking out on his face as he pulled out the spherical artefact. When the sphere rose up and changed shape it was clear that the blob shaped alien known as Morph had tricked them. Amelia frowned as she watched Jim chase morph, her vision swimming in and out of focus. A mechanical sound reached her sharp ears and she turned, looking up.

"Stifle that blob and get low." Amelia growled to the others, lowering her head. "We've got company."

She ducked under the longboat, where Jim and Delbert joined her. They waited for the other longboat to fly over them. Once she was sure they were out of sight, Amelia climbed out, kneeling next to her rifle. She glanced out at the sky in case any more scouts were headed in their direction, but they appeared to be alone for the time being.

"We need a more defensible position." Amelia told the two men, who had also climbed out from under the Longboat. "Mr Hawkins." Amelia picked up a pistol, handing it to Jim as she stood up with the help of her rifle. "Scout ahead."

Jim glanced at the rifle as he took it, a deep frown on his face. "Aye Captain." He replied, turning to leave. Amelia made to stand fully, but she lost her grip on her rifle, moaning as her side betrayed her and she started to fall. She felt strong hands grab her and support her as she slipped down.

"Steady, steady." Delbert told her as he helped her to the ground. She gasped just before reaching the ground. "Now, let's take a look at that." Delbert told her.

"Nonsense, Doctor. I'm fine. Just need… to walk it off." Amelia groaned, trying to hide her injured side. She put a hand to it and pulled away to find her gloves stained with blood. Great.

"Please Captain." Delbert insisted, reaching over to her side.

"I've already… told you, Doctor… I don't… I don't need any… any help. I've managed injuries before… just fine. This is… no different." Amelia sat up, which made her vision swim. She saw Delbert's panicked face grow closer as she blacked out again. "Really Doctor." Amelia insisted the moment her eyes opened. "Don't fret over me. We need to… to find somewhere to stay… before it gets dark."

"No. I refuse to allow you to lie here with life threatening injuries and tell me what to do." Delbert argued. Amelia half sat up and tried to focus on his face, but the pain in her side made it hard. She shut her eyes and listened to his protests.

"Fine Doctor." Amelia gave in after a minute, the pain beginning to become unbearable. She wanted nothing more than it to subside for at least a minute so she could think straight. If it had been anyone else, Amelia would have never agreed to it. "I give you permission… to examine… my wound. Just… Just don't try anything."

She heard Delbert take a nervous breath. "A-Aye Captain." He managed, and she opened her eyes again and helped him take her coat off. She gently hissed as her shoulder was jostled in the process. A sharp wave of pain made her see stars, but the coat was off soon enough, exposing her to the cold.

Delbert gently untucked her blouse on her left side, pulling it up to the top of the injury. "There's a… a small aid kit locked… in the longboat under… that latch." Amelia told him, nodding to the box nailed to the longboat. Delbert unlocked it, allowing a few things to fall out and onto the ground. Delbert fished out the First Aid kit, opening it and pulling out a few bandages. She watched him pull out a few things that he started to apply to her wound. Funnily enough, it seemed he sort of knew what to do, but Amelia helped him nonetheless. "You need to place a pad… on the main wound, then… then wrap bandages around… the pad to hold it on." She felt him do what she said, the contact on her wound making bright spots appear in front of her. "You have to… wrap the… the bandages tight Doctor."

"But I don't want to injure you, Captain." Delbert exclaimed.

"I'm already injured, just do it." Amelia growled, trying very hard not to black out. She heard Delbert sigh.

"I need to lift the other end of your blouse to wrap the bandage Captain," He told her.

"Ok, just… just do it." Amelia groaned as another wave of pain came over her. She felt the Doctor wrap the cloth around her torso a few times before tucking it in. "Good… good work Doctor." Amelia gasped as she tried to sit up by pushing herself up on her arms. Her left shoulder shuddered under the weight, causing Amelia to gasp, half collapsing back down. She squeezed her eyes shut, silently praying for this pain to end.

"A-Are you alright Captain? Did I wrap the bandage too tight? You seem to be losing your colour." Amelia felt Delbert pull her blouse back down.

"I'm fine Doctor. It's this… this blasted shoulder." Amelia told him, making another attempt to sit up properly. Delbert reached into the First aid kit again and pulled out a bandage. He wrapped it around her arm as a makeshift sling. Amelia held her arm to her chest as he finished the sling.

"Thank you." Amelia told him once he was done. He looked down at her softly.

"Will you be alright to move Captain?" Delbert asked her. "Jim should be back soon, and like you said, we need to get to a more defensible position."

"I'll be fine, Doctor." Amelia told him, running her right hand through her hair. "I just need… to conserve my energy- not that I'm tired- I just… don't need to… to stand at this very moment." Amelia scowled as her choice of words.

"I understand Captain." Delbert replied, sitting down next to her and pulling her coat around her shoulders. He watched her closely over the next few minutes as she breathed heavily with her eyes shut and head tilted back slightly. Every now and then she would gasp and open her eyes as a wave of pain came from her side and the Doctor would turn to her. She'd wave him off, sliding closer to the ground despite her best efforts to stay up. After what felt like hours, Amelia allowed her mind to swim in and out of conscience. Her thoughts wandered back to the short fight on the longboat before they had escaped, how Delbert had knocked out a few pirates into the etherium with one shot of the pistol he had been so nervous of. She'd been amused at his effort, joking by asking whether he actually aimed for that, knowing he had. The memory brought a smile to her lips despite the pain in her side.

"Doc!" Jim yelled through the bushes, startling the Captain and Delbert. Amelia sat up too fast, causing her side to sting. She looked up at Jim as he talked to Delbert, but her injury made it hard to focus on the conversation. She caught a few words about shelter and a short trip. After a minute, Delbert looked her way and Amelia spoke to them.

"We must move quickly," She told them. "The sun is already low in the sky, and we don't know how… how long it will be until dark." Her breathing became shorter as she speaked.

Delbert looked at Jim, "How do you know we can trust B.E.N.?" Amelia didn't recognise the name, presuming it must have been mentioned earlier in the conversation.

"Trust me Doc, he's harmless." Jim told him. Delbert nodded.

"Ok, tell him we're on our way." Delbert watched Jim run back into the forest before turning to Amelia. She had her eyes shut, and raspy breaths slid through her teeth. "Captain, we're moving." He told her gently as he knelt next to her. When she didn't respond, Delbert slipped his arms under her and gently lifted her. She peeked her eyes open, but said nothing, letting her head rest against his shoulder as he pulled her close to him, careful not to touch her injury. Delbert made after Jim slowly, trying not to jostle the Captain.

"Excuse the mess people," B.E.N. told the three as he stepped into his home, rushing to try hide some of the mess. "You'd think in 100 years I'd have dusted a bit more often, but when you're batcheloring, you tend to- heh- let things go…"

Delbert looked around the room briefly before returning his gaze to Amelia who was in his arms. She had barely said a thing on the trip, but her breathing had slowed and a small frown rested on her face.

He lowered her onto a spherical boulder, careful not to let her head rock back and hit the rough surface. Amelia opened her eyes and sent him a warm tired smile.

"Aww isn't that sweet." B.E.N. looked over at the two, "I find old fashioned romance so touching, don't you?" He reached around to pull out two filled cups. "How about drinks for the happy couple?"

Delbert looked at the cups filled with oil and chemicals frightfully. "Oh- er - ooh. Er, no thank you, we don't drink," He pulled of his coat, "and, er, we're not a couple." Delbert glanced down at Amelia, who looked up at him with a half smile on her face. His stomach flipped at the sight of her, and he looked away. Quickly changing the subject, Delbert nodded at the walls. "Look at these markings." Delbert looked around the room again, following the paths of circular carvings which were joined by lines. "They're identical to the ones on the map. I suspect these are the hieroglyphic remnants of an ancient culture."

"Mr Hawkins." Amelia sat up as she talked. "Stop anyone who tries to approach. Ooh." She felt another wave of pain travel through her, and Delbert looked at her.

"Yes yes, now, listen to me." He told her as he pushed her back to lie down, tucking his coat behind her to make her more comfortable. "Stop giving orders for a few milliseconds," He looked at her softly, "and lie still."

Amelia looked up at him with a bit of pride in her eyes. "Very forceful Doctor." Her side ached, threatening to take over. "Go on, say something else." She let a smile travel across her face as Delbert's smile warmed her.

"Hey look! There's some more of your buddies." B.E.N. told them. Before anyone could stop him he yelled down to the pirates. "Hey Fellas, we're over here fellas."

Lazer shots soon went flying at the robot, rebounding around the room. Delbert's heart skipped a beat. Jim started firing back. After a few seconds the firing stopped and the pirate Silver's voice could be heard yelling up at them.

"Come to bargain for the map, doubtless." Amelia growled. She made to sit up. "Pestilential- ugh." Her side let off an ache, and she collapsed back to the boulder.

"Captain." Delbert told her forcefully, putting a hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him with fury in her eyes, but backed down when she saw his serious expression.

"That means… that they still think we have it." Jim smiled at the thought.

"Jim- Jim you're not thinking of going? Are you?" Delbert exclaimed.

"I have to Doc. I'll be fine." Jim reassured him.

"But- but, Captain…?" Delbert looked hopelessly at Amelia.

"Mr. Hawkins, be careful." Amelia told him.

"I will." jim replied before climbing out the shelter.

"Oh no, he's doomed." Delbert wailed after him.

"Oh tish tosh Doctor. The boy will be fine. He's tougher than he looks." Amelia watched the Canine start to pace up and down the room. She smiled to herself at the sight of him, but gasped when another wave of pain hit her.

"Captain?" Delbert looked over at her. She shut her eyes as her breathing became more laboured. Behind her eyelids specks of light blinded her. "Captain." Delbert knelt next to her, putting a hand to her forehead. It was slick with sweat. Amelia opened her eyes, trying to focus on the Doctor.

"Don't… don't worry about me… Doctor. Go… go keep an… an eye on Mr… Mr. Hawkins." She managed through shallow breaths.

"Captain, Captain you have to stay with us." Delbert brushed the stray hairs out of her face.

"I will D-Doctor. Just go check on Jim." Amelia watched Delbert hesitate before standing and waiting by the entrance of the shelter.

Jim returned after a while, and Delbert went and told Amelia what had happened. The two waited expectantly while Amelia took a breath.

"Gentlemen.." She started softly, bringing her shoulders up with the effort to talk. "We must… stay together… and… and." She sighed as her vision blurred, sinking back to the boulder. She shut her eyes as she swam in and out of consciousness. Muffled voices filled her head, causing her to open here eyes again. Her gaze landed on the Doctor, and she found herself gazing into his eyes. "Doctor, you have… wonderful eyes." Amelia smiled, sinking into a light sleep.

"She's lost her mind." Delbert declared.

"Well, you've got to help her!" Jim exclaimed.

"Dangit Jim, I'm an astronomer, not a Doctor." Delbert told him. "I mean- I am a Doctor but I'm not that kind of Doctor. I have a Doctorate, but it's not the same thing, you can't help people with a Doctorate you just sit there, and you're useless!" Delbert put his head in his hands.

"It's ok Doc, It's ok." Jim patted Delbert on the shoulder before walking away.
