ISSUE 1 THE BIG CITY

OCTOBER/31/2010
1 HOUR AFTER THE OUTBREAK STARTED
Nick Richards is at the police department. He has an hour until he gets off of work, he's a police officer in Boston. He's there with his fellow police officer,John, Jose ,and Carl. It's a slow night, not many calls come in on Halloween. Nick takes a drink of water, looks outside and sees children with their friends and family. Nick has a family of his own, a wife, son and 2 daughters. All four men are watching the red sox game, they're playing the Yankees.
"Bet you the Yankees sweep em" says Carl"
"How the hell are you a Yankees fan living in Boston''says John.
"He's a bandwagon. He was a Boston fan last year but since the yankees won the world series last year now he's a yankees fan" says Jose
All 4 of them laugh. Nick says that he has money on this game,
"I have 50 bucks that the red sox take the dub".
"Not gonna happen", 'says Carl.
An hour goes by and the score is 3-3 in the 9th inning. They're on the edge of their seats but while Derek Jeter is at bat the TV shuts off and cuts to a news broadcast.

WE INTERRUPT YOUR DAILY PROGRAM FOR THIS IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT. 2 HOURS AGO THE NATIONAL RADIATED POWER PLANT WAS SHUT DOWN AFTER SOME OF THE CHEMICALS WERE ACCIDENTALLY RELEASED, FURTHERMORE SOME OF THE CHEMICALS GOT ON SOME OF THE DOCTORS AND KILLED THEM, BUT AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR OF THEM BEING DEAD THEY STOOD UP AND STARTED ATTACKING THE OTHER DOCTORS AND SECURITY. OUR REPORTS SAY THEY STARTED TO EAT THEM,THE DOCTORS THAT KILLED THE REST OF THE DOCTORS AND SECURITY ARE OUT LOOSE IN THE CITY AND….."." THIS JUST IN, THE PEOPLE THAT THE DOCTORS KILLED AND ATE HAVE ALSO COME BACK TO LIFE AND ARE NOW RUNNING LOOSE IN THE CITY, ATTACKING AND EATING PEOPLE. IF YOU SEE THE DOCTORS OR SECURITY DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPROACH THEM. THEY ARE VERY DEADLY AND VIOLENT. STAY IN DOORS UNTIL EVERYTHING IS SITUATED".
John hears screaming outside, he looks and sees a man chasing a woman. He runs out of the department and tries to stop the man. STOP, STOP RIGHT NOW"yells nick. but the man tackles the woman and bit her, Nick pulls out his gun and shoots him in the back 4 times. The man falls back but then gets up and starts coming towards Nick, he just puts 4 shots in his back.How is he standing, let alone walking? He shoots 4 more times in the man's chest but the man keeps coming. Nick is shocked, finally Nick shoots him in the head and the man goes down. The woman is screaming in pain, Nick goes to her and carries her inside the station. She is bleeding badly. They get the medkit and try to help stop the bleeding but she passes out and Nick puts his ear to her chest and it's silent. Jose looks outside and sees a bunch of people walking towards others as they make weird growling noises. 3 people tackle a man and start eating him, tearing his flesh and eating it. John yells in horror. The undead began attacking others. Nick thinks fast and closes all the blinds on the windows and locks the door.
"no one goes outside"said nick
"I DONT KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON, BUT THOSE PEOPLE ARE CRAZY THEY WERE FUCKING EATING THAT MAN ALIVE"yelled Carl.
"You think this has something to do with the power plant thing"says John.
I don't know but we…''.
BANG BANG!
"THE FUCK"Jose yells.
"UGHHHH"! They heard from outside
" BARRICADE THE DOOR"! yelled nick.
Everyone runs and gets shelves, chairs and tables and puts them against the door.
"Since when did these tables get so damn heavy?" says Carl.
"That should be enough to hold them off a bit. Sais nick"
The group can hear the groans from the undead outside.
Did you see what that man did to that woman,he was on top of her, EATING HER, I put 8 shots in him and he kept coming, that's not human. Those shots didn't even faze it" said Nick.
We can't just leave her here, we gotta put her somewhere" says John
"Put her in the locker rooms for now,"said Nick.
Jose and Carl proceed to put the woman in the locker room. Nick is looking out the window.
"Those things are everywhere" says John
"I got to get to my wife and kids" said Nick.
"Nick the streets aren't safe right now, if you go out there those people will be all over you,
you have to wait until it's clear" said Carl;
"Here I'll call them," said nick.
Nick tries to call his wife but there is no service. Nick looks out and all the lights have gone out, the station has a backup generator so they have light but only for a few days. The herd of feral people are still outside but they are not trying to get in the station anymore. A car alarm went off so the feral people are focused on that right now. 30 minutes go by and all 4 men are in the main hall just waiting for something to happen. They hear growling from the locker rooms.all 4 men jump up and point their guns in that direction. The locker room door swings open and it's the women that they put in there.
"WASN'T SHE JUST DEAD"?!yelled John
"MA'AM ARE YOU OK? HOW'S YOUR WOUND'' said Nick
"UGHHHH" moaned the woman.
"MAN SHE DONT LOOK RIGHT" said Jose.
"MA'AM ARE YOU OK DO YOU NEED HELP" yells Nick
"UGHHHAAAAA".
The woman lunges at Carl and grabs him.
"GET OFF OF ME"yelled Carl as he struggles to get the woman off of him.
Jose runs towards the woman and pulls her off of Carl and throws her down
"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH HER"yelled carl
The woman gets back up and starts walking towards Nick.
"MA'AM ,JUST CALM DOWN"
Nick pulls out his gun.
"UGHHHHHAAAA". She lunges at Nick but he shoots her in the head and she goes down. Nick looks out the window and sees the ferals look over this way.
Nick whispers loudly "GET DOWN"
All 4 men drop to the ground and they can hear the ferals outside moaning and growling.
Jose whispers "we can't stay here, we have to go, those barricades won't hold a 2nd attempt"
"Okay" whispers Nick"
"1,2,3 go" they crawl out of view of the ferals and head towards the gun locker.
"Get as much as you can carry" says nick
"where are we going to go?"says carl
"Well head towards the school. The kids and teachers are off today since it was Halloween so there shouldn't be anyone there, we'll hunker down there until morning," said nick
" Are you sure Nick those things are everywhere?"asked Jose.
"Where else are we gonna go"?asked nick.
"Okay"said jose
The 4 of them take off through the back door of the station and head towards the school, killing a few feral people but most of them either didn't notice the group or didn't see them. The group is about 10 minutes away from the school.
"Nick, how far are we?'' said John
"About 10 minutes away, this is the school my son goes to"said nick
Another 10 minutes go by and they make it to the school.
"GODDAMNIT, the doors are locked and i forgot my keys" said Jose
"I have a key," said Nick
He unlocks the door and they go inside. It's 11PM right now and there's no light in the school. They have flashlights.
"I can't see a thing its so dark,"said Jose
"Just keep your eyes and ears open," said Nick.
"SHHHHH, I heard something,"said John. Everyone goes quiet.
"UGHHH"
"IT'S A FERAL"said Jose as he pointed his gun at it.
"NOO, don't shoot it'll make noise, beat its head in with your gun" said nick.
Jose grabs the feral and throws it on the ground. He gets on top of it and starts bashing its head until it stops moving.
Jose breathes hard. "Jesus fuck, damn thing wouldn't stop moving, everybody ok"said jose
"Yeah it was only one," said John.
The 4 men make their way to the locker rooms, it's 11:30 pm.
"So we're sleeping on benches?"asked Carl
"Yeah, I'm going to put on these shoulder pads and helmet just to be safe," said John.
"Good thinking" said john.
Everyone finds a bench to lay on and falls asleep. Seven hours later the group awakes, Nick being the first.
"How long were we out of it?"asked Jose.
"At least 5 or 6 hours," said Nick.
Everyone gets up and heads out of the school. As they are walking to Rick's house they pass an old antique store.
"I've been here before", they have a few knives we can take" said John
The group breaks into the antique store and finds the knives John was talking about. A hunting knife, 2 combat knives and a kitchen knife. They take some food they find but it isn't much so they leave and head to Nick's house. On the way to Nick's house they come across a few feral people but the guys take care of them easily
"So the only way to kill these things is through the head?" said Carl
"That's what it looks like,"said John
"Damn"said Carl.
2 more hours go by and they finally make it to Nick's neighborhood but it's deserted. There's a few ferals there and Nick sees one of them come out of his house. Nick drops the bag of guns and starts running towards his house
"NICK WAIT!"
